Generally, when someone has tried a cruise vacation that have been affected by the ocean go on vacation and want to stay mistake again and again, each time cruising to a different destination and taking on new ports of call. However, some people choose to take it a step beyond that love and thinking of a sea faring while on vacation want to feel more involved and, therefore, see their own charter boat or yacht. If the thought of this appeal to you, but you're not sure what a charter yacht vacation at the store would read and hopefully things will be a little clearer.
Private yacht charter vacations come in two basic styles, the private yacht charter in which the charter yacht exclusively for you and your family, or the letter of simply a letter cabin on a yacht with other people that you do not know. If you are a couple then chartered a cabin on a yacht is much more affordable to navigate, but you have to share their yacht with strangers who is going to have to get to know that if you have a big family or a group of friends who can letter entire boat for you and enjoy a private party with you and only the crew.

When chartering a yacht there are three different types of yacht searching. You can opt for the traditional power of the wind sailing yacht which has a certain amount of romance and tranquility in this regard is the power of yachts which is a more reliable form of transport as you're not confident in the wind and weather to reach their destination, and finally you have the option of a multi-hull yacht, either a catamaran or a trimaran that provide a more stable and comfortable ride in the water for passengers. Depending on where to book your charter yacht that usually have the option of the ship to take his private yacht charter holidays aboard.
Unlike a cruise vacation private charter a yacht vacation offers much more freedom as to where you want to travel. If you take the time to investigate the area where he was sailing is usually possible to give the captain and crew instructions on where you want to surf zones and that he would like to visit. You can stop in an area of natural beauty or a coral reef or even visit an isolated beach that is within sailing distance that often forced the captain. This flexibility gives real control of their holidays and lets you get the most out of your vacation. Alternatively, if you do not want to get involved in planning their route can trust the judgement of their experienced captain and allow you to navigate his private yacht letter to the areas they certainly know as the palm of his hand.
A private yacht charter can feel like a real house with all the facilities you expect to find on board a yacht top quality. The rooms are usually anything but overcrowding and generally offer more than enough storage space for anything you could choose to bring with you. The experienced crew will make sure that you are cared for morning till night, taking care of all the cooking and cleaning.
Therefore, if you like the sound of freedom that charter their own yacht can offer, why not see in reserve himself and his family on a private yacht charter vacation this summer and sit down and let the world of sailing as you are looked after by the crew.

For more information on private charter yacht please visit our web site --
http://www.marmaris-fethiye-yacht-cruises.com
Please feel free to publish this article provided a working group remains hyperlink to our site
E Harwood carpenter.

Welcome aboard the world's largest cruise

by Gordon Banks

Cruise ships and large have always fascinated with men. Since the first trip to the famous ye unholy luxury cruise ship, then the world's largest cruise ship, the Titanic, people have increasingly become more and more interested in creating and browsing of luxury boats and believe me when I say that is truly an emotional experience. One vacation aboard a cruise ship can erase a year of stress and this is not an exaggeration. Sometimes, even those who tend to reach the sea sick holiday. Now with the rapid growth of the marine industry, intense competition is brewing when it comes to the global cruise industry. However, the largest and perhaps also the most profitable cruise shipping company, Royal Caribbean is comfortably ahead of its rivals. Has the current world's largest cruise, 160000 tons of ships based in Southampton called independence of the seas. This will begin its inaugural season this year.
Apart from that, Royal Caribbean is building, which will be perhaps the world's largest cruise for 2009, 220000 tonnes Genesis class cruise. This ship is being built in Finland, but its port of origin will be in Florida, in Fort Lauderdale. According to sources from the company, the ship is being built under the name of the project work genesis. The dimensions of the main deck is almost the size of four football fields, and will be approximately the same size as the tallest building in Britain when completed, massive 800 feet!

This project is by far the most ambitious in the history of shipbuilding. The cover of this central cruise will be the topic after New York Central Park, with lush tropical vegetation plants in the theme park. To ensure safety and plant growth throughout the cruise will micro-climate control functions that provides the temperature of the vessel to meet the needs of all green around. Royal Caribbean said that this invention will be a luxury architectural revolution around the world with its central park, as long as a football field. There will be a total of sixteen in decks of the ship and the park will be the eighth, right in the middle. The vessel will be a combination of beauty and power, all equipped with the latest technologies in the marketplace.
Richard Fain, chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean sure is proud of this project and plans to capture the majority of Britons who plan to go on a cruise holiday with his fleet of luxury liners. Once completed, Genesis may hold about 5500 passengers, mostly in any mode of transport. In addition to this, served with more food and drink in a day than needed an average of five-star hotel in one month. At a net cost of 700 million pounds, Mr.Fain is treading a dangerous spot with a make or break the situation in his hands with his new Cruises, which will become the world's largest cruise ship, never.

Know More About The Cruise Ship Explorer

by Gordon Banks

The cruise ship Explorer is one of the finest cruise ships in the world. The setting sun reflects orange off its still surface, broken only by the fishing line and float that you have thrown out in hope of catching an elusive Murray cod. Across the bank a substantial group of migratory waders preen themselves in the shallow water, and upstream a large house boat drifts slowly into view. Except for the sounds of nature the evening is quiet, and while you sip on your sundowner you think how infectious this tranquility is.
This may all sound like some sort of daydream, but in the Murraylands this is the reality of life- a reality that attracts thousands of tourists each year who come to recharge their batteries and enjoy the peace of the Murray River environment. The powerful river breathes vitality into the dry Mallee region, creating stark contrasts in landscapes which highlights the lushness of the areas directly around the Murray. Just an hours drive from Adelaide, the Murraylands are easily accessible and the perfect option for a weekend away. Visitors flying into Adelaide just need to pick up a hirecar at the airport, and in no time at all they can be relaxing on the green banks of the Murray!
The ultimate way of seeing the Murraylands is from the water, and it is no surprise that a houseboat holiday is the premier vacation idea for the region. There are over 80 houseboats operating in the Murray and most of them come equipped with all the luxury fittings to make your stay on them a pleasure. No special license is required to hire one, you just need to be above 18 and to hold a valid driving license. Training and tuition as to how to drive them, the river conditions and mooring spots is provided before you leave for your trip. Of course you do not have to commit to taking out a houseboat to get onto the water, there are shorter cruises too. Some of these go for a day and some just for a few hours, but all of them give you the same relaxing satisfaction of being out on the water.

The towns of the Murray share the laid back and relaxed feel that is so typical of this region, and wherever you choose to stay you will be welcomed with open arms. Murray Bridge is the largest town on the river, and has everything the tourist may need or want. A range of accommodation options is complemented by shopping centres, restaurants and sporting facilities, and there are attractions such as the Dundee Wildlife Park, the Avoca Dell Mini Golf and the Sturt Bunyip Reserve which help make it a great retreat for the whole family. Along the river shore there are numerous leafy parks and barbeque areas where you can appreciate the quiet serenity of the river from.
With so much water around its no surprise to learn that one of the primary recreation pursuits in the Murraylands is fishing. Expect to hear plenty of 'the one that got away' stories when it comes to the Murray Cod. This elusive freshwater fish grows to over 100 kilograms and is notoriously difficult to catch, which makes it quite the talking point amongst local fishermen. It makes great eating, which adds to its appeal. Dont let its phantom nature put you off fishing however, because there are lots of species that are just as tasty that roam the river such as the yellow bellied callop. Its always a good idea to befriend a couple of locals and pick their minds for the best fishing spots and techniques whenever fishing in a strange area.
Just when you think you have seen and done everything in the Murraylands you hear about the Monarto Zoological Park. This 100 ha sanctuary combines the concepts of zoo and wilderness to create a an open range area where numerous exotic species roam. Expect to see herds of giraffe, zebra, ostrich and zebra wandering through the natural bush setting. Its like your very own African safari! Located at the town of Monarto which is the gateway to the Murraylands, the park is an important breeding program and a great place to bring the kids.
Whether its for a love of the great outdoors, a bit of fun and adventure or just a relaxing and rejuvenating break, your reasons for visiting the Murraylands are bound to be satisfied. The vast river system and the historical towns are easily explored in a rental car, and the diversity of the region ensures that whatever your age or your interests, you will find something in the Murraylands to make your holiday special.

Luxury Ships Of The Silver Seas (The Silver Shadow)

by Rebecca Robbins

This is a cruise ship strictly for the discriminating traveler who is accustomed to fine living and accommodations. The coastline of the Aegean Sea is absolutely beautiful, and you really ought to plan on seeing it if you're planning to visit the Bodrum Peninsula. And there are some good reasons why Bodrum gulet cruises are a very popular choice for vacationers who want to experience the Mediterranean on board a ship.
Gulets are a time-honored part of the Turkish tourism industry, and they are crafted on the Bodrum Peninsula. Bodrum gulet cruises are the vacation choice for many thousands who visit Turkey each year. These wooden yachts are made by hand, are 19-25 meters in length, and can carry 12-16 guests in its 6-8 cabins.
As they are simple yachts, and not large ships, the water activities you can enjoy on gulet cruises are usually fishing, snorkeling, sunbathing and swimming. In general, these cruises are geared toward energetic people who enjoy water sports, rather than simply a sightseeing voyage. And the choices that are available in Bodrum charter cruises mean that you can easily find one that has an itinerary that will suit you.
Nowadays, gulets frequently offer modern amenities which rival the luxury of a first class hotel. Air conditioning is not available on all Bodrum gulet cruises, they do have comfortable staterooms with private baths and showers. Bodrum yacht cruises come with equipment that includes a VHF radio, a GSM telephone, a stereo and a dinghy equipped with an outboard. Gear for water sports including windsurfing, snorkeling, canoeing, and fishing is provided.

Bodrum gulet cruises are better than a hotel stay for so many different reasons. For starters, each day you will visit picturesque locations, drop anchor in unspoiled coves and have the chance to swim and snorkel in sparkling clear water. Bodrum charter cruises in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas provide you with the chance to visit the many ancient sites rich with history, which are easily accessed from the coast throughout your cruise.
And Bodrum yacht cruises can also easily be combined with a visit to the Greek Islands. Very near the Turkish coast lie several Greek islands. Bodrum gulet cruises that have both Turkey and Greece as ports of call are essential for history and archeology buffs.
Bodrum gulet cruises have plentiful and varied travel itineraries. The pricing for them is wide-ranging and will depend on your length of time at sea and the places you wish to visit. Any one of these special cruises will most likely stand out as the best part of your vacation in this unique part of the world.

How To Be Frugal When Booking A Cruise Vacation

by Chris De La Rosa

Vacation is not only about spending time it also involves spending money. Though a cruise vacation is more attractive than a land vacation it usually comes with a price tag on the high side. But with careful planning you can be economical about a cruise vacation. Here are those significant tips to help you have a cruise vacation with minimal expenses.
• Lots of research is required for fixing a cruise vacation. Several cruise lines are available and you need to analyze about each package carefully. While deciding a cruise line consider everything from cabin charge, dining price, entertainment activities cost etc. Book a cruise that offers one complete price that includes everything from travel, space, food and entertainment.
• While booking a cruise it is good to book your airfare by yourself. If you let the cruise liner to do that it will be a bit costly.
• When selecting a cruise vacation package consider about reimbursement and insurance options before hand. Think about discount offers and other benefits that may be available. Make use of the services of travel agencies and look for best deals.
• Carefully planning your vacation with utmost details is essential. This way you will know where you go and what you do and how much money you need for everything. This prepares you to be ready with the required money and you will get everything you need at the best possible price as you had time to research, analyze and select.
• Make estimation about all the expected expenses and create a detailed budget. In your budget make about 10% allowance. This will take care of unprecedented expenses.
• When you wish to shop at a tourist location think twice. Because it is a normal practice to sell at a price that is at least 2-5 times more at a tourist spot. If something is available at a local store at a lesser price why buy it at a vacation spot paying more? But there are shoppers stop even during a cruise vacation. At these places you can get rare items real cheap. Make the most of it during your cruise vacation.

• Find a good travel agent who would find a best cruise vacation package for you at a fair price. For that you can ask your family, friends and relatives. Regular cruise goers are a good source of reliable information. Select a travel agent who has experience in handling cruises.
• If you plan your vacation about 6 months in advance you can get best deals.
• Once you'd booked the cruise check for any free up gradation. Certain cruises offer more services and cabin space too without any extra cost. It is always possible to get highly beneficial last minute deals.
• Boarding place, the destination and the associated airfare are important price parameters in deciding a cruise. Think all these factors and decide a cruise that suits your location.

Chris De La Rosa and his family are avid cruisers who can be found on some of the biggest and most glamorous cruise ships sailing the Caribbean seas.To learn more about Booking a cruise vacation, please visit CruiseCrownPrincess.com. So does that cover everything? Not quite.
It's sometimes easy to forget the "extras" you will be paying in addition to the cruise fare. Shore excursions, drinks, gratuities, port transfers not to mention your spending money are all going to up the bill and need to be considered.
The majority of cruise lines sell their cruises on a full board basis, i.e. all meals included, but do not include drinks. There are a few exceptions, such as Island Cruises and Thomson Cruises. These 3-4* cruise lines offer a number of free upgrades to an all inclusive tariff on selected sailings. Places are very limited, and once the free places have sold, they will charge to upgrade to this option, if it is still available.
But wouldn't it be nice if everything was included, I'm talking gratuities, unlimited drinks from fancy cocktails to champagne, a complimentary mini bar in your cabin and all shore excursions.
You may be surprised to find out that this option is almost a reality.
Ultra luxury cruise line Silversea offers the closest you can get to a fully inclusive cruise package.
Their fleet offers 4 beautiful ships each carrying no more than 400 passengers for an intimate experience. When you sail with Silversea all gratuities and drinks are included, but in addition, transportation to and from the ports to the main attractions are complimentary.

Obviously, sailing in a suite onboard an all inclusive luxury ship is going to cost more than your regular cruise, but, if you usually travel in a suite on a 4* ship, surprisingly, this option may work out to be better value. For around £3400 per person you could enjoy an all inclusive, 7 night Mediterranean cruise, in a suite with balcony onboard a 6* luxury ship. If you don't require a balcony, this cost can drop to around £2500 per person. In comparison, a similar cruise with a 4* cruise line based on a top suite could roll in at as much as £3800 per person.
If you still like the idea of an all inclusive board basis (and who wouldn't) but have a budget that won't quite stretch, there are still options out there for you.
Royal Caribbean for example offer their cruises on a full board basis, but, teas, coffee, lemonade, iced tea and fruit juices with breakfast are complimentary. Furthermore, soda packages can be purchased which enables both kids and adults to enjoy unlimited brand soft drinks at a very reasonable daily rate, plus, for those who enjoy a bottle of wine with their meal, they sell various packages which will also save you a few pounds.
For daytime cocktails - you are on holiday after all - look out for the cocktail of the day which will be on offer at a reduced price. However, in addition to this cost of course, you still have a service charge of 15% to pay on top of each bar bill, plus gratuities.
So, what really is better value? To work this out you need to calculate how much you are likely to be spending on drinks, the accommodation you want to travel in, and the gratuities you will need to pay. Then you can work out the difference in cost and decide if you want to pay the extra to experience an ultra luxury cruise.

Genna Roberts is web editor at Inside Cruise - an online cruise community with the latest cruise news & features - get paid for your reviews & photos!
Come join us! http://www.insidecruise.co.uk

Small Alaskan Cruises

by Benjamin Robert Ehinger

There are times when I hear family members or friends tell me that they would never go on a cruise, but these are the people that are perfect for small Alaskan cruises. If they take just one small ship cruise they will fall in love with cruises and especially with all the incredible scenery that is found on an Alaskan cruise.
Small cruise ships only carry 200 or fewer passengers and they have many advantages. They are the perfect size for people that want an up close look at nature and don't want to feel lost among the thousands of people on the ship. They have the most exotic itineraries, hit the unspoiled ports that don't take larger ships, and provide a chance to actually get to know the other passengers since there are so few. Many times you will also find guest lecturers and a staff that is full of knowledge about the unique wildlife and scenery that you will see.

The best part about a small ship, though, is that you can actually discover the few destinations that have not been plagued with tourism yet. These places are not able to accommodate larger ships so they take the smaller ships. The small Alaskan cruises will hit many smaller villages along the Alaskan coastline and will give you a real look at Alaska instead of just going to the larger ports that are populated with tourists.
Some of the Top Small Ship Cruise Lines include: American Cruise Lines, Cruise West, Lindblad Expeditions, Pearl Seas Cruises, and more. If you are not sure that a large cruise is for you, then I suggest you check out the information that is out there about small Alaskan cruises and I am sure you will fall in love with the smaller ship cruises that are so wonderful.

Customary Amenities On Cruise Ships

by Robert Gibbs

Ever wanted to take a cruise? If so, you are not alone. Each year more and more people are vacationing aboard cruise ships and the choice of ships and destinations grow and grow. If you have never been on a cruise ship before, you may be wondering what amenities can be found onboard many of today's cruise liners. Most cruise ships have common amenities such as eating facilities and bars and also daycare centers and activities geared towards children of all ages.
When first evaluating your choice of ship, it is important to decide whether you prefer a smaller, more intimate type of cruise or whether you would prefer a larger ship with more amenities. It is important also to consider the comfort level you require. Small does not always mean luxurious as many of the large ships nowadays are very luxurious. However, the number of passengers could be a concern for you. Large cruise ships often offer more of a choice of amenities especially in the case of onboard dining facilities such as dining halls, restaurants, and cafeterias. Many of these dining facilities are classed as upmarket restaurants with specific dress codes. This is because Elegant dining among cruisers is as popular today as it was in days gone by. To make sure that you are able to enjoy a superb meal, you are encouraged to make a reservation as soon as you board the ship. In addition to a sit-down restaurant, there are usually a number of small eateries located onboard.
Bars, Ballrooms and Disco's are also found on most cruise ships. The Range of Entertainment depends on the size of the cruise ship and often include Broadway style productions and comedy, with dancing, music and cabaret all in separate bars. Larger ships can have a TV studio and even a conference center. For the Bars and Discos, it is important to check if any age restrictions are in place. If there are younger members of the family who cannot use the bars then it is advisable to check that they can complete other activities while you enjoy the nightlife at sea.

In addition to the above mentioned bars and Entertainment Venues many cruise ships have casinos. Most Cruise Lines adopt the same age limits as with land based casinos. Some of the gaming halls and casinos are open 24 hours a day Some of the popular gambling activities include slot machines, blackjack, poker, bingo and much more. Because Gambling is popular on cruise ships, if you want to cruise just to gamble, it is advisable to check what facilities are on each ship. Check the cruise liners websites for more information.
Childcare is often available for young children. Many parents have concerns about leaving their children with the daycare staff. It is important to know that cruise ship employees are often highly educated, properly trained and are closely monitored. One way to allay your fears is to quickly familiarize yourself with the staff that will be looking after your child.
What do you do if you have older children who are too old for daycare? Well, there are Swimming pools, movie theaters gyms, libraries, video arcades and even ice rinks on some of the larger ships. However, one thing to check is whether the cruise ship has a Adult Supervision Policy, this prevents children under a certain age from roaming freely around the ship. As each cruise ship could have a different adult supervision policy, you would be advised to check out these policies before you purchase your ticket. Also ask whether Teenagers may be able to visit these facilities without adult supervision.
For those people who do not want to give up their daily exercise routine when they are on their cruise, many cruise ships now have fitness centers and gyms which would rival those found in many large towns and cities. The larger ships have sporting activities which include tennis, basketball, jogging tracks, volleyball and some even have 9 hole Golf courses. Many ships also have spa's, steam rooms and sauna's, massage, health treatments and beauty salons.
For those who want to stay in contact with the outside world, cruise ships often have Internet cafe's.
So how do you check if a particular ship has the amenities you require or not? First you can check comparison websites. Just do a Google search for cruise ships and you will see several websites listed for you to check out. We found Cruise Ship Finder very helpful. Next, visit the Cruise Ships website. You can often check the individual ships listings to see what they offer. Also make use of the toll free numbers they often supply to get answers to specific questions.
Some cruise lines to check, are, Carnival Cruise Lines, Paradise Cruises, Royal Caribbean, SAGA and Celebrity Cruises. This is just a small selection. There are many others as well.

For more information visit http://www.bestfreearticledirectory.com

Planning a Cruise Holiday

by Danny M Smith

Are you planning a holiday of a lifetime aboard a ship? There are a number of questions to ask yourself and perhaps some of the answers below will help you to plan your perfect holiday.
The first question you need to ask is who you're going to take with you. Is a romantic holiday or one that you want to open up to family and friends. It used to be the case that children and cruises didn't mix but you'll find ships that have wonderful carers and activities organised for children of all ages. This gives them a fantastic time and leaves you free to spend the time however you wish.
You need to decide on your budget. Cruising is historically not a cheap alternative but, having said that, there is a lot of competition around and now is probably an ideal time to get real value for money.
Remember that there is a big choice of cabin from the most expensive with balconies and a separate lounge through to the inner bowels of the ship (not good if you suffer from claustrophobia or sea sickness). If you're in a wheelchair you must check access with the company. Some of the doors are quite narrow and create a lot of problems for many disabled people.
Cruises around the north of the northern hemisphere are becoming more and more popular but aren't practical in the depths of winter; it's just too cold. Even the Mediterranean can be really quite dull and chilly so if you want sunshine you have to move towards the areas that will guarantee it; usually that's the Caribbean or Mexico where cruising is a way of life.

If you are disabled you need to decide if cruising is the right holiday for you. Even the basics of getting ashore can demand quite a high level of athleticism when the ship has to anchor at sea and ferry people ashore. Although most cruiselines will include trips for everyone, again there are some that are physically demanding, whilst others tire your mind!
Many of the ships have specialist cruises several times during the year. They could invite writers, musicians, artists or just famous people to be on board, perhaps to give talks or demonstrations and to inspire you to follow their methods or to buy their books! On some of these cruises there are very few stops and the ship is designed to give you absolutely everything that you need whilst on board; just like Disneyland on water!
Many people still like to dress for dinner and on many of the ships there will still be at least one formal dinner which will require long dresses or dinner suits. For younger people this is no longer such an attraction and so many of the companies who are targeting these people take this into account. It's certainly something worth thinking about.

http://www.about2cruise.co.uk

Choosing The Perfect Cruise

by Kimm Henry

There are three categories of cruise lines to choose from: Luxury Cruise Lines, Premium Cruise Lines and Mainstream Cruise Lines. All of which have different types of ships to consider. Within the three categories of cruise lines are the following types of cruise ships: mega cruise ships, large cruise ships, small cruise ships, adventure cruise ships, sailing ships, river cruise boats and yachts.
So what is the difference of Luxury Cruise Lines, Premium Cruise Lines and Mainstream Cruise lines? All of them provide great adventures on water, all of them have much to their credit and most of them have a strong commitment for providing fantastic vacation experiences. Often times it's not the flavor of the cruise that counts but the tastes of the individual. Your travel agent can help you put together the perfect cruise vacation based on your unique lifestyle.
Luxury Cruises
Aboard deluxe cruise lines such as Crystal Cruises, Radisson Seven Sea Cruises, Seabourn Cruise Line, Sea Dream Yahcht Club, Silverseas Cruises and Windstar Cruises are ocean liners that offer guests the ultimate cruise experience. The luxury lines offer itineraries in a variety of lengths and destinations. Many of these destinations are un-traveled by Premium or Mainstream cruise lines. These are high quality products at a high quality price. The majority of these cruise ships carry less than 500 passengers.
A luxury cruise is perfect for those looking for:
· A formal, refined atmosphere, epicurean dining and personal service, all with a touch of elegance.
· Deluxe and spacious accommodations.
· A limited number of fellow passengers with one-on-one attention from the crew.
· An Average of two weeks or longer away.
· Onboard scholars and lecturers providing in-depth information on certain topics.
These cruises typically cater to business oriented professionals whom are well traveled.

Premium Cruises
Premium lines offer a high quality product at a more affordable price. The majority of these cruise ships carry less than 2000 passengers. Premium Cruise lines include such favorites as Celebrity Cruises, Cunard Line, Hapag-Lloyd Cruise Lines, Holland America Line, Oceania Cruises and Peter Deilmann Cruises.
A premium Cruise is perfect for those looking for:
· A semi-formal yet relaxed atmosphere, great cuisine and personalized service
· Above standard and spacious accommodations.
· An average cruise of seven days or longer in length.
· An active lifestyle.
These cruises most often attract business oriented professionals, who are well traveled.
Mainstream Cruise Lines
These cruise lines provide a great product at a great price. Many are literally floating cities with parks, golfing, theaters, restaurants, salons and even rock climbing. Cruise Lines in this classification have something for everyone. They also carry the highest number of passengers per available space. Mainstream Cruise lines include, Carnival Cruise Line, Costa Cruises, Delta Queen Steamboat Company, Disney Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, P&O Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Royal Caribbean, International, Lewis Cruises and Star Cruises. Many of these cruise ships can carry 3000 passengers. A mainstream cruise is perfect for those looking for:
· Casual and active atmosphere with good food, good service and a good price.
· Fast paced entertainment and activities.
· Standard accommodations.
These cruises attract many families as well as passengers of any age group.
Now that we have seen the different Ocean Liners remember that many fun and exotic ports are best accessed by river.
River cruise
Voyages along inland waterways are as varied and unique as earth itself. Anywhere that there are large rivers and barges you will probably find a river cruise operator. River cruise crafts are smaller than ocean-going cruise ships, typically holding 90-240 passengers (though there are ships that take only 5 passengers and others can carry 1,000 passengers). Due to their smaller size and low draft, river cruise crafts can go where ocean cruise ships cannot, and sometimes to where no other transport is practical: rivers are an excellent way to reach some otherwise missed attractions. And are great ways to combine land tours with cruising. During river cruises the countryside is usually in view, so they are especially relaxing to those who prefer land nearby.
River cruises usually last from 7 to 15 days. Some river ships resemble five stars hotels, with sun decks, dining rooms, lounges, fitness facilities, swimming pools, casinos and other entertainment. Accommodation, meals onboard, entertainment and special events (holidays, festivals, contests, concerts, etc.) are usually included in the cruise price while bar expenses, sauna, massage, laundry and cleaning, and phone calls are not. Most cruises have a variety of onboard and off board activities. The latter include guided tours to historic and cultural sites, visiting local attractions, museums and galleries, and other points of interest. Guides give a running commentary while sailing. Popular river cruises include trips along the Nile, the Mississippi, the Yangtze, the Mekong, the Danube, the Rhine, the Seine, or the Volga.
There are several dozen river cruise companies each with 1 to 20 ships. River Cruise Tours are great for small group travelers and adventure seekers of all types. They are fantastic for small and midsized groups who want to get away from the crowd with a private charter.

Kimm Henry is a Cruise Brothers Cruise Specialist. If you visit the town of Bodrum on Turkey's southern coast, you should try to visit some of the private coves along the Aegean shoreline. You'll enjoy this beautiful area most if you explore it on one of the Bodrum charter cruises.
With its beautiful shoreline and all its nighttime activities, Bodrum has become a popular tourist destination. The natural beauty, lovely weather, and historical surroundings are features that attract many tourists. Choose Bodrum charter cruises and leave your everyday life behind.
Although availability depends on when you reserve, Bodrum charter cruises offer many sailings to accommodate your budget. Typically measuring from 45 to 115 feet in length, gulets are sailing ships with double masts that hail from the southwestern coast of Turkey. Bodrum gulet cruises are valued because of the Old World atmosphere that the cruises exude. These Mediterranean boats are handmade, and when originally designed they were used by sponge divers.

Bodrum yacht cruises offer a more sophisticated and elegant way to sail. Gulet boats are not as large and offer fewer amenities. If you take Bodrum charter cruises via yacht, chances will be greater that you will find amenities like on board entertainment, spas and sophisticated dining. Air conditioning is highly recommended, especially at particular times during the year, and will be available on yachts. But all the rooms on either sailing vessel offer perfect ocean views, so no matter which one you choose you'll certainly be happy on that count.
Anyone who likes water sports is sure to enjoy Bodrum charter cruises. You can relax by the water, go fishing, swimming, wind surfing, canoeing, or dive in for some snorkeling. But if you really want to visit the hidden inlets along the Aegean shore, Bodrum gulet cruises are your best option. The size of a yacht may limit where it can go; whereas, a smaller boat can get there easily.
The number of participants, the cruise length and whether it is the off season can alter the price of various itineraries that Bodrum charter cruises offers. The vessels used for Bodrum yacht cruises typically cost more to run than gulet cruise types. During May and October you will get lower prices, but in July and August prices are higher. It's somewhat cheaper in shoulder season than in the summertime.
The Greek island of Kos is easy to travel to by boat from the Bodrum Peninsula. You wouldn't want to visit this stunning Mediterranean area without exploring the coastline around it. Bodrum charter cruises offer an outstanding experience even if you only have a short time to spend.

Cruise Ship Enrichment Speaker Program - Edutainment, Empowerment, Inspiration, Transformation & Fun

by Paul Davis

Travelers are looking to rejuvenate and invigorate their lives while experiencing relaxation and adventure. Purposeful pleasure is becoming increasingly popular. Cruise ships are catching on and riding the wave with their many enrichment programs. Some more than others.
Special interest speakers provide a series of original presentations on destinations and topics of special interest to cruise guests.
The Cruise Critic remarked of Grandeur of the Seas, launched in early 1996, one of Royal Caribbean's older vessels: "There's also no enrichment program (unless you count napkin folding and dollar origami), though that is fairly customary for Royal Caribbean in general."
To Royal Caribbean's defense their International cruises do offer enrichment programs on the following - "Fun and unique" topics with a broad appeal, Culture and topics that relate to the cruise itinerary, Billiards, Anything "Behind the Scenes," History presented in a fun way, Journalism, Art, Mardi Gras, Sports, Theater/Hollywood, Astronomy, Nature/Wildlife, Space Program, "British" topics, New Age, Men's topics, Seasonal and Holiday topics.
Celebrity Cruises offers - Art History, World Affairs, History, Culture, Maritime History, Celebrities/Hollywood, Theater, Music, Journalism, Nature/Wildlife, "Meatier" topics with a broad appeal.
Discovery World Cruises provides - Cultural, Current Events, World Affairs, Politics, History, Journalism, Art, Astronomy, Nature/Wildlife, "Meatier" topics with a broad appeal.
Princess Cruises give their guests - Destination/Port Related, Cultural, Current Events, World Affairs, Global Economics, Politics, Maritime History, Art History, American History, Science, Astronomy, Television & Radio Journalism. If you can get through the telephone bureaucracy and patiently ask to be transferred through to the enrichment program director, your suggestions for new topics might also carry weight if you have enough passengers traveling to leverage getting your speaker or topic of choice on board.
Cruise lines and ships want to serve and satisfy their guests. Many people enjoy this kind of activity as it gives the cruiser an opportunity to relax while traveling the world. It can be a most exciting trip.
Compared to other vacations, it's very convenient. In other trips, you will just be tiring yourself from driving for 10 to 14 days.
You will also find it hard to pack and unpack your belongings everywhere you go. You will worry about the food you will be eating. Imagine the inconvenience.
In cruising, all you need to do is relax while they take care of all the things you need. Your rooms and meals are ready and available after spending the whole day enjoying the things you like to do.
In addition, you will be to visit exotic places at the cruise ship's ports of call.
There are also many different amenities on board that will surely bring you joy.
However, do not need to spend so much money on your travel. Luxury vacations on cruise ships have become much more affordable, but you should be able to get very good discounts booking last-minute.
Last-minute cruises mean the best deals at a very low price.
You should think about the pleasure that you are going to gain. There is no need for you to search for a restaurant or wonder if there is entertainment for you. Your cruise vacation has everything on board. You should make sure that your cruise is the most unforgettable trip you have ever had.

How are you going to find the best last minute deal? Be flexible.
Remember that these cruise liners have anticipated that the rooms will be filled. Instead of setting off with these rooms vacant, they will offer them for a last-minute, very low price. This is their best way to fill in the vacant spots.
The services that they will be offering to the last-minute cruisers are just the same as for cruiser who paid the total fare.
To help you get the best possible cruise deal, there are pointers that can help you.
It is well to note that you can compound your cruise savings by booking last minute deals during off- season times. This time, the rates are lower to begin with.
Departure dates may be unusual in some areas but the true cruising adventurer does not care about irregular departures.
These discounts are snapped up quickly hence, you need to do constant check with the cruise line information services.
Being flexible with your travel dates can be of great help, too. If you allow open shifting of travel dates, like by a few days one way or the other, you get the chance to save more.
Should you wish to be kept up to date, online access is the key to information updates on cruise deals. From this, you can help yourself come up with the best decision about your anticipated cruising adventure.

Six Cruise Itineraries to Take Before you Die

by Anne L. Campbell

I'm not suggesting that it's time to begin disembarking from that great journey known as life. But the world is a large place so I'm passing along my top six cruise itineraries, just in case you want make sure you don't miss the highlights.
1. The Greek Islands/Turkey
Spectacular beauty and world-famous antiquities abound on a one-week cruise to Greece and Turkey. From Kusadasi, Turkey, it's a short ride to the 2,000-year old city of Ephesus, where a two-story ancient library lies at the end of the main thoroughfare, still marked with chariot tracks. Santorini is my pick for the most spectacular Greek island. You'll sail into the bay - a huge volcanic crater - then ascend 900 feet to the winding streets of Thira, a tiny terraced town overlooking the Capri-blue Mediterranean. Mykonos, once a sleepy village, is now 'tres chic' with Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Chanel among the shops.
2. The Baltic
The Baltic. Every port in this varied region called the Baltic is loaded with history, pride and tradition. From the opulent palaces of the tsars in St. Petersburg to Stockholm's breathtaking harbor and historic walking area and Copenhagen's spectacular Tivoli Gardens, few cruising regions offer such diverse treasures.
3.Antarctica
My voyage to Antarctica was the best cruise of my life, a voyage to a place unlike any other on earth. Sailing through the perilous Drake's Passage, we arrived in a magical region of icebergs a mile across, and each day we saw whales, elephant seals, albatross and millions of penguins. Excursions on zodiacs took us ashore to penguin rookeries of 300,000 birds. Among the passengers were scientists and experts who enriched our experience.

4. Asia
Few places are as exotic as Asia, with its bustling modern cities like Hong Kong and Singapore, its colorful markets, ancient temples and stunning landscapes. The most popular cruises visit Vietnam, Thailand, Burma and Malaysia, all with diverse ports ranging from busy cities to bucolic rural settings. Personally, I like to walk around Asian cities to savor their uniqueness, although most passengers opt for a guided tour when they don't speak the local language.
5. Hawaii
What I discovered on a one-week cruise, sailing round-trip from Honolulu, was a tropical paradise with more natural beauty and diversity than I'd ever dreamed. Each island is distinctive, and my shore-side activities ranged from going to the top of the world's largest volcano to a high-speed zodiac ride along Kauai's Napali coast, with hundreds of dolphins leaping around us as we navigated into caves and marveled at the sheer cliffs that line this part of the island.
6. The Panama Canal
The "path between the seas" is considered to be one of the greatest engineering projects ever undertaken. The 48-mile canal, which opened in 1914, accommodates 40 ships per day ranging from private yachts to large container ships. While the full canal voyage between the Caribbean and Mexico is 14 days, you can also opt for a ten- or 11-night cruise sailing round-trip from Florida on Princess and Royal Caribbean.

Copyright Anne Campbell, 2008
Anne Campbell is a journalist who has been covering the cruise industry for 15 years. Another term the cruise lines use is 'guaranteed rate'. What it means is that, no matter what, you would get a cabin in the category you purchased. If you get lucky, you could get an upgrade.
The cruise industry uses this technique for a very specific reason. Typically, the first cabins to sell out on a ship are the most expensive and the least expensive. By using the 'guaranteed rate' or 'TBA' method, the cruise line always has an inexpensive cabin 'available'. When all of the inexpensive cabins are sold, the remaining inventory is usually made up of the mid-priced cabins. The cruise line can have a harder time selling these as they may be competing against lower prices on other cruise lines. Enter the TBA or guaranteed rate cabin.

When you make a TBA reservation, you are not assigned a cabin until just before sailing. You are 'guaranteed' to get the category you paid for or better. This way the cruise line can sell the same inexpensive cabins multiple times by moving earlier purchasers, or past passengers, or using any of a number of other criteria, up into a higher category of cabin.
If you don't mind what cabin you end up with or where it is located on the ship, this is a great way to purchase a cruise. But, for a good price, you give up all control as the location or type of cabin you get. (Note: If you purchase an Outside category, you will NOT be given an Inside cabin. This is the only thing you can be sure of.)

Tips for Scoring The Best Cruise Deals

by Anne L. Campbell

A wealthy friend decided to take a one-month vacation with Seabourn Cruises and knew the ship, itinerary, departure date and stateroom she wanted. She decided to conduct an experiment in cruise bargain hunting by calling three travel agents and, after relaying the specifics of her desired voyage, advised each agent that whoever gave her the best price would get her business. She saved thousands of dollars.
The travel agent who won her business did it by rebating. If there is one dirty word in the cruise industry it's rebating, which means an agent kicks back part of his or her commission (generally 15% of the cruise fare) to pass along a lower fare.
After 15 years of writing about the cruise industry I still don't see why rebating is bad - don't real estate agents and car salesmen do the same thing? Isn't this just basic competition? Still, several cruise lines won't let any travel agent rebate cruise fares, including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Crystal Cruises, Regent Seven Sea Cruises and, to a large part, Norwegian Cruise Line.
The remaining cruise lines do allow rebating, but won't permit travel agents to advertise or promote a lower price to the public. You have to ask.
This means that if your sights are set on a Princess, Holland America, Cunard, Oceania, Carnival and Seabourn cruise, it's worth your time to ask travel agents if he/she can come up with a lower price than the one you're first quoted.

Of course your chances are better in some cruising regions. Right now, sales of Caribbean, Mexico, Baltic, South America and Western Europe cruises are soft. Hence, here you stand a better chance of getting a lower price than on Alaska and Greek Island cruises, which are selling much better this year.
It's all about supply and demand. And timing. For example, traditionally suites and balcony cabins sell out first. But now that a bad economy is upon us and there's overcapacity in the Caribbean, Mexico and some areas of Europe, you still may get a better deal on the highest-priced categories. So ask. The only think a travel agent can say is "sorry, this is the price."
WHEN NOT TO SHOP AROUND: When you have a wonderful travel agent you trust implicitly, who has steered you towards good deals in the past. To save $100 or so isn't worth it.
One caveat. Travel agents can only rebate the price of a cruise. There are fixed costs, like port charges, taxes, fuel surcharges and airfare that are never negotiable.

Anne Campbell is a journalist who has been covering the cruise industry for 15 years. In port and at sea most ships schedule activities like port talks, lectures, games and fitness programs on a nonstop basis. It's easy to tailor your cruise vacation to fit your lifestyle : you can participate in any or all of the scheduled activities or do nothing more taxing than sip a margarita by the pool while reading the latest best seller.
Shipboard activities
Your best source for information about onboard activities is the ship's daily newsletter. Go over the list of activities the night before and note the ones that appeal most to you. If you want to be active, you can take exercise and fitness classes, often starting as early as 6:00 a.m.; on some cruise ships you can also shoot hoops, run a track or hit golf balls. If you'd rather be primped and pampered, sign up for the salon and spa services, which have become very popular in recent years.
Before every port call, ship's staff will present port talks, including shopping tips, and guest experts will usually be aboard to give history lectures and to offer programs on such topics as health, fitness and lifestyle management; some ships also offer culinary demonstrations, wine tastings, and language classes throughout the day. Other activities might include bridge lessons and tournaments, pool games, pingpong or shuffleboard, art auctions, dance classes, and computer lessons and classes on how to work popular software programs. Most shipboard activities are offered at no extra charge, but some (wine tastings and computer classes, for example) might carry a fee.

But your day needn't be structured at all, and there are many places aboard ship where passengers go just to relax and unwind. On sunny days, the swimming pool is one of the most popular spots for lounging and socializing. The library and card room are available for quiet pursuits, as are many of the ship's lounges, and many people retire to their cabins in late afternoon to rest before dinner.
At night the ship's lounges come to life with live bands, and every night the main showroom will host a Vegas-style revue, guest comedians, singers or other professional act. When the ship is at sea, the casino gets a lot of action when by day staff members offer gaming lessons, tournaments and bingo games and where at night table games and slot machines become busy with after dinner gamblers. It's a great place to end the day, talking with new friends and trying your luck.
Dining pleasures
Your cruise vacation will also be organized around a series of wonderful meals and receptions. Breakfast and lunch are usually casual affairs with open seating in the dining room drop-in service in the ship's buffet restaurant and an English-style tea is usually offered in the afternoon.
Most cruise lines offer guests several choices for evening dining, and some offer a lot. For example, under Princess Cruises' 'Personal Choice Dining' plan, you can eat in the dining room, at a steakhouse, on a balcony, at the buffet, in the pizzeria, at the wine and caviar bar, at the burger grill, at Sabatini's, Princess' wonderful Italian trattoria; in fact, you can find a dinner spot somewhere aboard ship from 5:30 in the afternoon to 4 o'clock in the morning. Outside the main dining room, some venues may require reservations along with a nominal fee.
Most ships offer one or more 'formal nights' per cruise. During the first formal night, the captain typically hosts a reception for all passengers. Upon arrival, you'll be greeted by the ship's hostess, who will introduce you to the captain. Complimentary beverages and hors d'oeuvres are usually served, and the captain will introduce his crew.
Of course, if you prefer some privacy at mealtime, you can always order from room service, which offers a set menu 24 hours a day.
Ports of call
One of the best things about a cruise vacation are the port calls. On some cruises you wake up every morning in a new port, and set out for another one late in the day. The time in between is yours: You can go ashore, stay behind, take a tour, or strike out on your own the decision is entirely up to you.
Most cruise lines offer shore excursions that appeal to a wide variety of tastes: sightseeing, hiking, biking, sailing, swimming, kayaking, snorkeling, and a host of other actives. Some lines also have some exclusive offerings. For example, Princess Cruises offers a dog sled summer camp in Alaska and a hike to the Seven Sisters waterfalls in Grenada. These excursions are continually scouted and monitored for quality control by the cruise line and are a good experience for the money.
If you prefer to do your own touring, you can book a private guide, hire a taxi, rent a car or use public transportation to explore whatever interests you. To make the most of your hours ashore, research your options ahead of time. Guidebooks, Internet sites, and local tourism offices are all good resources. Just be sure to get back to the ship in time for the scheduled departure or the ship just might leave without you!
Life aboard a cruise ship has its own distinctive rhythms, and yet every day will be different. Step aboard and enjoy the voyage.

Anita Dunham-Potter is a Pittsburgh-based travel journalist specializing in cruise travel. Anita is a weekly travel columnist for MSNBC.com and Tripso, and she is a contributor to Fodor's "Complete Guide to Caribbean Cruises 2007.

Want to See the World? Take a Cruise Ship Vacation!

by William Lund

Perhaps not everybody is cut out to cruise, but a lot of us are. I have a twin brother John, who likes to do stuff like hike through the Himalayas in the snow, and truck through the jungles of Brazil. Well he can have his adventures, but when I am on vacation I like to find a chocolate on my pillow when I hit the sack after a hard night at the casino.
Cruising is not really expensive. For the nightly price of a good hotel room you not only get a place to sleep, but you get 24 hour a day free room service, all kinds of food available all the time, fantastic meals in formal dinning rooms or just hit the buffet. Free shows, free movies, entertainment of all sorts, a casino, swimming pools, hot tubs, putting greens, tennis, ping pong. All free.
There really is something for everyone. There are contests at the pools, bingo for those so inclined, art auctions, dancing lessons, and demonstrations of ice carving and even juggling bartenders. Don't worry about missing those important emails, because all the ships have internet cafes now. The last cruise I was on, I had wireless internet in my room.
For the ladies there is always an elegant spa and all kinds of beauty treatments available. My wife really enjoys getting a foot massage after a long shore excursion...in preparation for the evenings dancing. You can even do your shopping on board, since there are a number of stores on the ship selling everything from clothing to jewelry. And be sure to bring some formal gowns for the formal nights on the ship. Formal nights are your chance to wear all that new jewelry and those new shoes with your new gown.

There are different kinds of cruises and quite a few cruise lines to choose from. Some cruise lines are known for having superior service, some for lower costs, and some for catering to kids. There are destination cruises where the main thing is seeing the sights at the ports of call. Then there are party cruises that tend to be populated by younger couples and the destinations are less important than the activities and partying. There are also specialty cruises that cater to gay couples and singles etc.
The destinations and shore excursions can be a very important part of the cruise experience. You can find cruises that take you darned near everywhere you could ever want to go. I've seen everything from the pyramids of Egypt to the Great Wall of China by going on cruises. And my wife and I have ridden ATV's through the jungle, swam with dolphins, and went tubing in underground caves...all on just one cruise!
So if you want to visit Harrods department store in London, walk on the Great Wall of China, see the ancient Greek ruins at Ephesus, or visit Red Square in Moscow, and you want to do it in style, choose a cruise. No unpacking and repacking, no strange food unless you really want it, and great service 24 hours a day. It's about as close to a worry free vacation as you can get.
For those of us who want to be pampered and spoiled and see the world at the same time you just can't beat a cruise ship vacation.

William Lund is a successful inventor and webmaster. Petit

For Americans, Caribbean cruises have quickly become one of the most popular of all cruise vacations. And why not? The options can suit just about anyone; you have the luxury of being in the tropics with a traveling concierge; no worries about luggage or accommodation changes. It is all about you: dine and dance in the evening, and explore during the day; it is all your choice. How long the sail lasts is only limited by your budget and what options you want; there can often be options of day excursions and upgrades that will affect your menu of choices.
Competition for consumer dollars is fierce, and a savvy traveler who enjoys cruising really can not go wrong. Travel packages are as diverse as your interests, and the ships are full of activities (and food!) You will be enjoying yourself more than you ever thought. My mother made many friends on her last cruise and is still in communication with several of them by email.
If you have the time to shop online and compare, feel free. But as a traveler I need to advise that this is not the same as reserving a flight or hotel; it would be worth your while to turn this over to a professional. You are needing to coordinate a flight, possibly a hotel near the port, luggage handling, passports, choices of excursions, and more; a travel agent could make your Caribbean vacation relatively seamless verses a disjointed and segmented trip with constant problems cropping up when you wanted to only relax in the tropical sun.

If you prefer a cruise vacation for adults, they are available, and the usual adult fun includes dancing, live music, entertainment, casinos and shows (don't forget theme-style cruises like jazz, singles, etc.), and are filled with enough daytime events to accommodate anyone. Often you can get the name of a great travel agent for the best Caribbean cruise deal from a friend; you can go to an official website, and another great option is to go to travel forums; people there have nothing to lose and are generous in sharing tips.
Remember that a vacation on board a ship allows you more opportunity to dress up. I used to stress a little over wondering about dinner "seatings", an invitation to the captain's table, and dress codes; these days you can even request cruises that do not include these rules, although a lot of people enjoy them.
Another option is to explore the types of ships. Some people prefer more intimate cruises with a smaller passenger list: this often means the ability to stop at ports of call unavailable to the huge "islands at sea" that a lot of people prefer for their all-inclusive', over-the-top list of services.
On the other hand there are many family-friendly cruise vacations that will fill any child's day to the point of freeing up parents to explore their own activities. They are often in the southern California area, but Caribbean cruises are also available.
The point is, if you would like to see many places, have a lot of social interaction, food, activities of your choice, and great service...try a cruise already. In other words, cruising might not be for you if you don't like to have a great time!

K.Petit's site is for outdoor adventure enthusiasts: http://www.PlayOurPlanet.com
Camping, Safari adventure and more: http://www.PlayOurPlanet.com
http://www.PlayOurPlanet.com

Is It Possible to Cruise and Not Gain Weight?

by Gail M. Davis

Have you been working hard to lose or maintain your weight but you fear that you'll ruin your efforts by taking a cruise? Not to worry! It's very easy to enjoy yourself on a cruise and maintain your weight!
To maintain your weight, you'll want to be active. Cruises are very relaxing and lend themselves to being sedentary, but they also offer opportunities for you to get your daily workout! Most ships have gyms that you can use for no charge. In addition, walking around the deck will help you meet your 10,000 steps a day goal. Don't forget to take your pedometer. Walking is also a great way to explore the ship, enjoy the outdoors, and meet people. If the weather is bad then walk the hallways inside the ship or walk the stairs. Take advantage of the shipboard activities. Many ships offer classes that will help you get in your daily workout. Doing this each day will still leave plenty of time for you to sit and relax!
Most ships today work hard to offer something for everyone. You will most likely find that on your ship's menu, courses are provided at each meal that meet certain dietary standards. These will be designated by the words "Cooking Light" or "Healthy Choice" or something similar. You'll know that that these items will be lower in calories and fat. Your headwaiter will be very familiar with the menu. Use this person as a valuable resource.

Don't feel like you have to stick to the special menu. Meals served in the dining rooms are served in reasonable portion sizes. Remember that you can eat pretty much what you want if you watch your portions. You may want to ask questions about how something is prepared and you may want to ask that sauces are served on the side, but don't automatically discount regular menu items. If controlling portions is your downfall and you really need to lose weight during your cruise, consider the new 5-4-3-2-1 Diet plan. It provides an easy way to eat what you want in smaller portions.
Pay attention to how you feel when you're dining. Eat with intention, not automatically. Put down your fork between bites. Chew your food well. Check your comfort level several times during the meal. Stop eating when you are no longer hungry. Don't keep going until you're full. There will always be more food available when you're hungry again.
Cruise ships are very generous with their bread and butter baskets. Either avoid bread and butter or give yourself a limit of one per dinner.
When eating at the buffet, it is very easy to make wise choices, but it is also easy to over indulge. There is almost always a carving station. This would be an easy way to get your 3-4 ounces of protein. Help yourself to vegetables but understand that they are prepared to be flavorful, so that usually means butter or oil. Fix yourself a tossed salad at each meal. Be generous with the raw vegetables but be skimpy with the cheese and salad dressing. Try dipping your fork into the salad dressing before taking a bite. You'll get lots of flavor without a lot of calories.
The desserts will be tempting but consider allowing only one a day or sharing a variety with others so that you have one bite of several different ones. They're served in small portions so this will help your efforts.
Fruit is usually plentiful on a ship for every meal. In addition, they offer many healthy choices for breakfast, including oatmeal, cold cereal, yogurt, whole-wheat toast, and omelet stations with egg substitutes or egg whites only. Avoid the donuts, Danish rolls, and muffins!
What about alcohol? If you know that giving up alcohol isn't a reasonable goal then find ways to limit your intake. Choose the occasional light beer, glass of wine or champagne, or a simple, two-ingredient drink such as a Bloody Mary. Frozen drinks are loaded with calories. One could be equivalent to eating a huge cheeseburger. If your cruising experience just wouldn't be enjoyable without indulging, then limit your high-caloric drink to one per day and compensate by decreasing your food intake or increasing your workouts. Don't forget to drink plenty of water!
If you don't take your cruise as an excuse to blowout all the rules that have helped you lose or maintain your weight, then you'll be fine. Dietary facts don't change on the open sea! It's still all about taking in less than you expend. What happens if you come home and discover that despite your best efforts you still gained some weight? Not to worry...immediately cut back to healthy choices in small portions and you'll lose the extra weight within a week! Bon voyage!

Gail M.
