Robert Hughes

Master of Photography, DR., MEI., ALPE., PASO Fellowship, PPA Certified

Photographic Awards include: 11 Fuji Masterpiece, 8 odak Gallery, 2-time WPPI Grand Award, Dumbauld Award of Creativity, Kubiac Award, Salyers Award and Electronic Imager of the Year.  Sevem-time PPCO Photographer of the Year, and Six-time Professional Photograhers of America Photographer of the Year.  In July of 2003 Robert was selected by PPA to receive the “Advanced Imaging Excellence Award.”  This award has been presented to only 41 people in 105 years.  Robert Hughes has been awarded the PASO, Digital Artist of the Year, Electonic Artist of the Year and PASO Overall Artist of the Year for 5 consecutive years.

Robert has been the Digital Moderator or ZuGa.Net, a contributing Editior for Rangefinder Magazine, and has been widely published throughout the Photographic community.

Robert has served as President of the Photographic Artists of Ohio, President of the Professional Photographers of Central Ohio and is currently on the board of Directors for the Professional Photographers of Ohio.  Robert also currently serves on the Digital advisory board of the Professional Photographers of America.

Humble and friendly as Robert is, the recognition and awards he has earned are astonishing, any one of which most professional photographers never obtains in a lifetime of good work.

Robert has also had the distinction of having his work twice selected by a jury of distinguished artisans for the “Art for Life” bi-annual event.  The selected works become a show, which is displayed in the Columbus Museum of Art.  Robert’s Art has been purchased by the world renowned Ron Pruzuti Gallery.

Robert is also the first American to be offered membership in P.A.C.E. This is an invitation-only, highly innovative European group of creative Photographers.  PACE stands for Photographers at the Creative Edge.

Through Extraordinary dedication, self-discipline, education, perception and pure talent; Robert  draws on the best elements of journalism, fine art, classic portraiture, and an extraordinary love of the human spirit to explore the essence of experience.  In doing so he has shown us the way to redefine and raise the emotional and visual possibilities of fine photography.

Robert sees his images as gifts he is given.  And through in, to us they speak volumes only glimpsed at.

Elaine Hughes

Master of Photography, PPA Certified

In 2001 Elaine entered print competition for the first time.  Since them Elaine became a two-time recipient of the prestigious Kodak Gallery Award.  On three occasions Elaine has been selected to receive the coveted Fuji Masterpiece award.  Two of Elaine’s Photojournalistic prints have received second place honors at the annual WPPI International print competition.  In 2005 Elaine was awarded first place in the Photojournalism Details category.  In 2006 Elaine was presented her PPA Certification Degree and Master of Photography Degree.  Om 2008, she was selected as the PASO Photographic Art Specialist of the year.  She also received a Fuji Masterpiece award.  In July of 2008, at the PPA Print Judging, Elaine received 4 loans Collections.  In 2012 Elaine received her Master of Electronic Imaging.  Also one of her images was selected for the top ten Grand Image Award.

Tom has managed Micro Center, a very large Computer Retail Store for the past 25 years. In 2007, Tom merged his knowledge of business and lifelong interest in Photography and Art into Tom Welsh Photography. Working out of his home in Westerville Ohio, Tom specializes in High School Seniors, Families and Children, Sports and for fun shoots pretty much anything and everything!!! In 2009 Tom was awarded the Fuji Masterpiece Award in the Portrait Category for his image “Pray”! This program will consist of Tom’s knowledge of business along with his Post Processing Techniques and at the same time challenge you to become the Best Photographer you can become!!

Tom serves on the board of PPCO and PPO and is a member of PPA and PASO.

Taking your skill set to the next level! Complacency can and will catch up with all of us….in these times of increased competition and increasing unemployment…it is more important than ever to step up and out of your comfort zone and “build some photographic muscle”. In this program, Tom will challenge you to improve your skill set, welcome competition, and build the “photography” muscle you need to stay ahead of the increasing number of Photographers entering today’s market!

 During this session Tom will provide an overview of the filters, add-ins and Photoshop techniques used to create images that stand out in the crowd! It begins with proper White Balance, Lighting and Composition and ends with streamlined RAW processing in Lightroom and then the use of Actions, Plug-Ins, and Layer Blend Modes to bring out the best in your images!!

The photography business has changed significantly over the last several years.  Since the demise of film, and the ability of some of our clients to buy a high end digital camera and start shooting for friends, there is a new level of price competition. Some of them call themselves professional photographers.  But, since they have great jobs with benefits, many have no overhead at all and charge very little for their photography, and they are happy because they have a real job to pay the bills.

How do you stay in business and make a living and pay the bills?  To survive today you must be able to set yourself apart from those who buy a good digital camera and think that makes them a professional photographer.  You must offer things that the other ‘photographers’ can’t or won’t do.  Your photography needs to stand out because of your posing and lighting, but also because of the “SENIOR EXPERIENCE” that you give your clients.  You have to create an experience that they will tell their friends about and which has value.

Join us at the PPSO meeting this month with Jon & Linda as they pose,  light and shoot on location with a studio setup. They’ll demonstrate how they select their areas on location as well as how they pose and shoot with fashion flair.  They will share what creates their “senior experience” that has students talking and sharing with their friends and which brings you more clients. Then they will share what they do to with the images after capture.  That is where the magic continues.

Jon has had many awards over his 27 years in photography.  He was named Swimsuit Illustrated Photographer of the Year in 1996, Swimwear International Photographer of the Year 1997, PPO Photographer of the year in 1997 & 1998, Mid-East Photographer of the year 1997, CPP of the year 97 & 98.  Jon was President of PPO 2007.  He received the PPA National Award in 2009 and the Walter Troup Award 2010.  Jon is also a PPA approved affiliate judge.

Linda, in her 20 plus years as a photographer has won numerous awards as well, including Ohio Artist of the Year, and Top 10 Ohio Photographers.  Both have won numerous Kodak Gallery and Fuji Masterpiece Awards as well as PPA photographer of the year awards, along with many Court of Honors and PPA Loan image awards.

About Ron:

Ron found his addiction to photography while in high school where multiple images were quickly published in local newspapers and he went on to be Photography Editor for his High School year book.  He continued his passion for photography even as he attended college, eventually earning his Ph.D. in Chemistry from The Ohio State University in 1990.  He continued to fuel his passion for photography as he and his wife, Marilyn, raised their two daughters and during his 20 year career at P&G.  He formally established RJ Rice Photography LLC in 2008 and retired from P&G in 2010.

RJ Rice Photography focuses on all forms of family photography (e.g. children / babies, family portraits, High School seniors, weddings etc), and to a lesser extent, on a variety of commercial client.  We primarily serve the West Chester/ Mason area where we have thrilled many families with fine portraiture for their homes.  By partnering with Culver Art & Frame, we capture our client’s memories and deliver them all the way from concept to wall.  Our commercial photography has already appeared recently in a variety of publications / web sites.

About the Program:

The program will focus on the use of ProSelect^TM  software to increase sales of portrait photography and better thrill clients by helping them visualize and buy “right-sized” portraiture that is ready to hang in their home to enjoy.

We will discuss how ProSelect software is used for the work processes of  1) pre-consultation, 2) digital album creation, 3) presentation of images for client viewing, 4) selection of the images to purchase, 5) addition of frames and mats, 6) “right-sizing” of portraiture to meet the client’s design intent, 7) invoicing and creation of the final print images for ordering.
