This script migrates everything from current stable Cultured code Things to 1.9 beta. Somehow Cultured code does not provide such things, so I had to make it. Please use at your discretion. Do not hesitate to let me know if it worked for you.
What it does:
Imports projects (all including closed projects for history). Does not import duplicate projects, if those existed at destination.
Imports areas. Does not import duplicate areas, if those existed at destination.
Imports TO DOs, attaches them to projects and areas
What it does not do:
It does not import persons, since Things object model does not allow to create them programmatically
It does not save cancellation not completion dates for historical tasks
It’s few days as I moved to Mac OS X Lion and this made me sick of more old stuff. I decided to migrate my To Dos from OmniFocus to Things. There is a useful script at CulturedCode site, however it took some tweaking to do exactly what I wanted.
Here is the result (Download OmniFocus_2_Things.scpt). The advantage of the original version is that it creates Areas rather than Projects for all OmniFocus projects, which are not “sequential”.
This script started based on several other existing scripts that I found, but ended up been mostly new content by the time I was done.
I am not an apple script expert, but was able to get this running well enough that I could import my 600 or so tasks from OmniFocus back into Things.
Make sure you back up all your files before you start running this.
I found there is no keyboard layout to support my MacBook keyboard when I run Windows under virtual machine. So I had to make it. For those who need it here is the downloadable setup and source files:
A new magazine is starting up in March 2009, devoted to design of services. The magazine is named Touchpoint, it is run by Service Design Network, organization I mentioned in one of my previous posts. Touchpoint is a 50 pages, four-monthly edition, annual subscription costs € 33 plus delivery from Germany.
I am glad Service Design Network is growing and getting more followers
