The following process should yield profitable, low competition keywords for your Adsense ads. This process is not perfect, but when you analyze it and try it for yourself, you can see that it makes sense. Adsense that is.
Step 1

Research some keywords for your niche that have a high CPC value. To do this, first find your keywords using the Google Adwords keyword tool or another tool that will give you niche specific lists of keywords. Save those keywords into a spreadsheet program as a csv file. Copy and paste those keywords into Google’s Traffic Estimator (you will need an Adwords account). The traffic estimator will give you the estimated clicks per day and the average cost per click (CPC) for each keyword. Copy and paste this information back into your spreadsheet file for later reference.

Step 2

Multiply the average CPC by 30% to get an estimate of your maximum earnings per click. The higher the average CPC, the more likely the CPC for the 2nd - 8th positions are high as well. You want this higher average CPC to start because if the CPC starts to drop off significantly after the 3rd position, your chance of getting high click earnings as an Adsense publisher will be diminished.

Step 3

Use any one of many tools available on the internet for helping to estimate the 1st - 8th position CPC values. These tools will estimate the CPCs for each position and allow you to see how much the CPCs drop off after the first position. This dramatically helps your analysis for picking the most profitable keywords. If the CPC values stay close to the each other and to the value of the first position, then you will more than likely have a profitable keyword.

Step 4

Now determine which Adsense ads occupy which positions. You can do this by searching on Google for your keyword and looking to see which Adsense ads are generated in the search results and in which order they are. Another way to estimate this is to use the Adwords Accelerator tool. It has a feature whereby Adwords ads are dynamically displayed for a given keyword you input into the tool to check. If the Adwords advertiser has used “Adwords for Content” in his advertising, these ads will be the Adsense ads someone else is displaying on their website.

Step 5

Compare the ads you found in step 4 to the results of using a keyword check function tool (available on the internet). If the advertisers you find by doing this closely match those you found in step 4, you will more than likely have a profitable keyword.

If the advertisers are not he same, then the advertiser is possibly not using the “Adwords for Content” mode of advertising in his campaigns. This means that the keyword may not be the basis for the Adsense ads and may not be profitable.

Step 6

Now you must get the traffic. If you decide to get traffic using the Adwords approach, then just use the keywords in your Adsense ads that scored well from the above evaluation. Then, use lower cost per click keywords in your Adwords ads. The difference between the earnings from the click you get on your Adsense word from the cost of the click you pay on your Adwords word will be your profit.

If you are planning to use search engine optimization techniques to get traffic to the website where your ads are, make sure the keywords you choose have the highest KEI possible. KEI is the ratio of the number of searches for a keyword to the number of competing sites having the keyword. The combination of a high KEI and a high score from the above evaluation will yield the best profit results.

Here is what Niche Inspector shows for the seed word “sewing”

The only thing close to my rules for a profitable niche would be Sewing Machine. The others have a KEI that is simply too low.

So I tried plugging “serger” into Niche Inspector to see what that would uncover.

I wasn’t impressed with the results that niche inspector revealed for “sewing” and “serger” so I decided I needed to find some other possible keywords for the Sewing Machine Niche. To do this I employed Googles AdWords tool and had it evaluate the list of articles I have on Sewing.

Below are a list that Google shows to have High Advertiser Competition and Average Search Volume (None had above average search volume).

antique singer sewing
brother sewing machine
brother sewing machines
patterns
sewing
sewing accessories
sewing craft
sewing machine
sewing machine reviews
sewing machines
sewing pattern
sewing patterns
sewing table
singer sewing
singer sewing machine
singer sewing machine parts
singer sewing machines
white sewing

All those phrases were picked up in the full niche report I ran and were simply excluded because of very poor profitability.

Does this mean that the Niche Article Pack on Sewing is useless? I don’t think so. Just because someone isn’t targeting keywords listed above does not mean they would not be interested in sewing. A site targeting crafts or home improvement or fashion might have an audience where this content could increase profits. Personally, I do not have any sites I could make use of the articles on other than listing them on my article directory.

I chose video as my seed keyword and found a couple of profitable niches but do not feel strongly about the match between them and an ebook on using Web Video for marketing purposes.  I would like to hear what others think.  So here are some of the results

Video production, streaming video, hd video camera and video conferencing all meet the requirements for a profitable niche.  These are not idea for the Web Video Master ebook in my opinion.   Streaming video maybe…the others no.  What do you think?

When I tested to see how many pages were targetting Stop Smoking Herb in the titles using allintitle the results (competition) dropped from 215,000 to 56! Looking for Stop Smoking Herb and I found no lens targeting that phrase! (Well there is one there now :-))

He felt that a better system needed to be developed due to the popularity of certain diets like Atkins and South Beach that vilified all carbohydrates and many fats. He wanted to show that it was too oversimplified to categorize carbohydrates as �??simple�?? and �??complex�?? or even worse, as �??good carbs�?? and �??bad carbs�??. Most carbohydrates are too complex to label them in this manner.

This prompted me to start up niche inspector and run a keyword report on south beach. While South Beach Diet

NOTE: applying the allintitle to “south beach hotel” yields 11,800 matches. For “south beach diet” 93,400.

A quick search on Ezine Articles for South Beach Hotel yields about 1,570 matching articles. Ezine Articles for South Beach Diet has 1,750.

This last check, looking for ezine articles targetting my niche, gives another indication of the competition in that niche.

I also like to check Squidoo. For South Beach Hotel I found 44 Lens targetting this niche. For South Beach Diet I found 75.

My vote is South Beach Hotel

Vision Lasik and Lasik Eye Surgery meet the requirements of High Demand, Low Supply and profit potential. The others, while having good profit potential, have very low KEI values.

Though lasik shows a good KEI it is an error, notice how high the results are compared to Vision Lasik. Both have a KEI of 207, which is impossible with Lasik have over 15 million results.

Using this knowledge in my situation I can modify the articles so that they contain heavier usage of Vision Lasik and Lasik Eye Surgery.

There are several phrases around the seed word ringtone which have excellent Supply VS Demand ratios. (remember, we want a high demand - searches, low supply - results in the search page results).

cellular ring tone, motorola ring tone, nokia ring tone, free cell phone ring tone, download ring tone and ring tone all are potentials. My personal choice would be cellular ring tone.

Most of advertisers I see targeting these keyphrases are running sites that want a telephone number to download free cell phone ring tones. Doing further research I found there are some nice affiliate programs available in this niche. The one I liked best is Funtonia. They offer a variety of landing pages and good tracking options.

NOTE: When using tracking options to help determine which keywords are converting the best, NEVER use the keyword as part of the tracking code. Why? Because when the affiliate manager sees which keywords your making your best money with they will simply start using them in their own campaigns

On Squidoo I would set up several lens targetting each of the profitable key phrases built around the seed word ring tone.  IE: “Cellular ring tone Information“, “

Next start making frequent posts to your blog about Ring Tones. If you cannot write on the subject I found 489 articles on Ezine Articles which you could use for content. A few of them I listed below.

Now we can see from the chart above that those niches are profitable.  The question is “What do those people want to spend money on?”.  Are they interested in actually buying a new car or information on how to buy a new car?  Maybe they want a free car quote?

The strategy I follow, which I cover in the upcoming “Unlocking the Niche Code” that I will be releasing to my readers, is to give them a free email mini course, thus teaching them to read emails from me and allow me to build rapport with them.   Having established that you can use surveys to learn more about your niche.

Global Warming and Climate Change and Global Warming have attractive KEI values above 100. The others, causes of global warming, how to prevent global warming, global warming prevention and how to stop global warming are attracting the highest advertiser bids.

Focusing on those key phrases I then set up a squidoo lens: Climate Change and Global Warming which has a link list for the articles in the adsense portal, global warming videos, updates from news feeds, a list of books about Global Warming that users can vote on, latest books marks from Del.icio.us on global warming.

Once that was set up I spent some time visiting other lens that came up from searching on global warming and did some social networking. This would involve ranking others, leaving comments, adding them to lens roll, stumbling them or adding to Del.icio.us, ect.

While visiting the different global warming lens’ I came across a lens on polar bears which reveals the real cause of global warming and climate change
