The Fairfield County Public Relations Association is hosting two Social Media Breakfasts July 14 and 20, part of its continuing best practices series of meetings.

You’ll learn what works for the most successful online marketers, individuals, and companies that are cultivating audiences and having their messages repeated via “word of mouse.” Whether you are building your personal brand, the reputation of a small business or reaching out to millions on behalf of a multinational corporation, you will not want to miss this July breakfast series.

July 14: “Marketing Begins at Home,” featuring David Parmet, a New York-based PR and social media marketing guru who helps businesses and agencies navigate the seas of social media.

Parmet will offer an overview of social media and help the entrepreneur or small business identify how to use social media to build a brand, to what extent they should use social media and which tools are right for you.

Date: Tuesday, July 14
Time: Breakfast and networking: 7:30 a.m.; program: 8:15 a.m.
Place: Bank Street Events, 65 Bank St., Stamford, Conn.

The cost is $30 for pre-registered FCPRA members, $40 for pre-registered non-members, and $45 for all walk-ins.

July 20: “The New Rules of Marketing and PR,” featuring David Meerman Scott, world-renowned social media expert and writer.

Scott will speak to members about social media marketing strategies that reach consumers directly and drive revenue, using news releases, blogs, podcasts, viral marketing and online media.

For decades, marketers have relied on buying expensive advertising and begging the media and analysts for coverage. We interrupted “prospects” with our egotistical “messages,” in the hopes of generating interest from buyers (who usually ignored us anyway). The Web has profoundly changed the rules. Smart marketers now communicate with buyers through content-rich Web sites, blogs, YouTube videos, e-books and other online media that buyers actually want to consume.

Learn how to leverage the potential that Web-based communication offers. A step-by-step action plan for harnessing the power of the new rules of marketing and PR will be provided, showing how to identify audiences, create compelling stories and ideas, get those stories and ideas to the most consumers possible, and lead those consumers directly into the buying process. Told with many case studies and real-world examples, this a practical discussion about the new reality of PR and marketing.

Admission includes a free copy of Scott’s book, “The New Rules of Marketing and PR.”

Date: Monday, July 20
Time: Breakfast and networking: 7:30 a.m.; program: 8:15 a.m.
Place: Bank Street Events, 65 Bank St., Stamford, Conn.

The cost is $35 for pre-registered FCPRA members, $45 for pre-registered non-members, and $50 for all walk-ins.

Sign up for the series and save: If you pre-register for both events, members get a bundle price of $55 and non-members can attend both for $80. Join FCPRA as a new member for $65 and attend both for free.

PR Newswire is hosting a free webinar, “Stay Attuned to the Social Media Landscape with PR Newswire’s Social Media Metrics,” Wednesday, July 22, at 1 p.m. EDT. The webinar will last approximately 45 minutes.

The rise of social media has given the general public unprecedented influence in building a brand or destroying a reputation. Blogs, social networks, online video — these media forums can have as much (or more) of an impact on a company or organization as an article in a newspaper or a segment on TV.

Join us for this free webinar and learn how PR Newswire’s Social Media Metrics can help you monitor and analyze the online conversations about your brand.

In this session, we’ll review this useful new social media monitoring and measurement tool that can help you:

·	Listen to what’s being said online about your company, spokespeople, clients and competitors
·	Report your findings by performing real-time searches and exporting customizable charts
·	Target the most influential sources and weed through the “noise”
·	Identify key demographics of those discussing your brand
·	Engage in the conversation and be ready to respond at a moment’s notice
·	Analyze the tone of conversations surrounding your brand by scoring all mentions for positive, negative or neutral sentiment

Moderator: Allison Murphy, product manager, Media Monitoring & Measurement, PR Newswire.

Please note that this webinar will be archived in case you are unable to attend.

From Kunal Johar, president of vOfficeware:

I was a bit hesitant about [ProfNet], as I have never written a book and felt few would listen to my advice/comments without any formal point of reference. Either way, I felt it was a worthwhile investment into promoting myself and my company.

I was in disbelief when, within the first 24 hours of receiving [queries], I had been published in Computerworld. I simply responded with some logical advice a journalist was seeking.

It turns out the Computerworld article was syndicated, and the increased exposure to my Web site increased tenfold as the article made its rounds. I am now on my third week of the service and have been quoted three times for the three leads I followed up with.

I can truly say the service works as promised. I am getting leads from people that want to talk to me. I am getting a lot more than I bargained for.

Thanks again for this incredible service.

I’m seeking information regarding proper pet care, aid to homeless animals, and prevention of overpopulation. I have teamed with a local pet-care facility, the McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., and would like to aid the facility in any capacity possible in collecting the resources they need to aid their homeless pets. This is a no-kill, not-for-profit shelter that operates solely on donations. I am seeking professionals in the industry to form relationships, exchange information and hopefully obtain product donations for their up-and-coming drive.

The McKamey Animal Care & Adoption Center operates under four main pillars:
Spay/neuter - Provide spay/neuter to all animals in our care.

Advocacy - Be recognized, respected and trusted as the leading resource, advocate and educator on animal welfare issues in our region. We will rescue, provide shelter, heal and help find forever homes for animals in need.

Enforcement - Through education and leadership, we will work to improve local, regional and state ordinances and laws that pertain to animals and animal care. Actively promote humane behavior, respect for animals and the public, and professionalism for Animal Services.

Education - Promote the humane care of animals by educating our volunteers and the community on spay/neuter, long-term pet care and owner responsibility while inspiring community action and compassion on behalf of animals.

The center is in need of the following: http://www.mckameyanimalcenter.org/?page_id=199.

I’d really appreciate the assistance of anyone who can help, or put me in contact with those who can. I am a journalist and a blogger whose personal Web site reaches 550,000 unique views each month. I will not only blog about the donations (there is an event this Saturday), but I will additionally take the story to the local paper here. And, McKamey would of course place any information about donations and those who help on their site and at the shelter on display.

Please contact Samantha Hunt at samantha@onthehunts.org by Dec. 31.

Allhealth Public Relations is hosting a webinar, “Social Media Strategies for Health Communicators: Reaching Top Health, Healthcare & Science Journalists in the New Media Environment,” Tuesday, July 14, at 1 p.m. EDT.

Every day, more health and science journalists depend on social media like Twitter and Facebook for story ideas, sources and background information. If you’re not using social media yourself, you may be dropping off their radar screens — if you haven’t already.

In this webinar, some of the nation’s leading health and science journalists will explain how they use social media in their daily work — and how (and whether) they want to be approached on these platforms.

Journalists include:

·	Julie Rovner, health policy correspondent, NPR
·	Karen Tumulty, national political correspondent, Time Magazine
·	Nancy Shute, contributing editor, U.S. News & World Report
·	Scott Hensley, former editor, Wall Street Journal health blog

In this timely 90-minute webinar, you’ll learn how to become accessible, visible, and valuable to health and science journalists in the new world of social media. You will learn how to use Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, blogs, and other social media to get your organization noticed and your stories covered by health and science journalists.

In addition, Craig Stoltz, former editor of The Washington Post’s Health section, ex-editorial director of Revolution Health and a Time.com top 25 blogger, will discuss ways to use social media to:

·	Locate health and science reporters who use social media to cover your stories
·	Identify the most influential blogs and bloggers
·	Become a credible, go-to source on the social Web for health and science reporters
·	Learn why your traditional approaches to story pitching don’t work in the social media world — and why they may backfire
·	Monitor what’s being said about your clients, companies or topics on the social Web
