The latest project car from well know Ford tuner Jon Lund is a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0 with a twin turbo setup. The Mustang GT is capable of running 9′s courtesy of the twin turbo setup built by Jake Long and Ken Bjonnes. The car retains the stock appearance and engine internals with minor additions to the vehicle including lowering springs, off-road x-pipe and a set of 15″ drag radials. The first run down the strip earned them a 10.72@131.8 on 8 psi. Hopes for low 9 second numbers are already being talked about but the psi will have to be turned up.

Its SEMA show time again and this year Ford is pulling out all the stops for the Focus junkies out there. Last year it was the Mustang that received all the attention but this year Ford has concentrated its booth on the 2012 Ford Focus. Several aftermarket companies were given the chance to showcase what they could do with a 2012 Focus and the end result is nothing short of spectacular.

This year in Las Vegas we will see seven customized cars that showcase the possibilities of both the hatch and sedan. Offering just about anything a customer could want to amp up the performance and personalization of the car, the Focus models have a wide variety of upgrades and enhancements. Since launch, the new Focus has been gaining interest, with nearly 500,000 customers raising their hands to request more information about the latest small car from Ford.

“Millennials, which this car is all about, want to personalize every aspect of their lives – everything from laptop covers to body art, and even cars,” said Mike Murphy, C-Car Marketing manager. “Being unique allows them to stand apart and be different, and all the Focus models we have on display at SEMA live up to that standard.”

The hot-selling Fiesta adds to Ford’s SEMA display, showing off the possibilities for a car with a style all its own.

“Fiesta is a natural fit for SEMA because it’s a unique brand,” said Lew Echlin, Ford Global Car Marketing manager. “One of the top three purchase reasons for the vehicle is that it fits the customer’s personality. That’s very rare. It’s an emotional purchase, so owners want to personalize it, with a significant percentage of them even giving their car a name.”

2011 SEMA Lineup of Ford Focus Project Vehicles

Are you having trouble finding the perfect donor car for your ’64 1/2, ’65, or ’66 Mustang convertible restoration project, look no further as an all-new Ford-approved and officially licensed body shell has hit the market courtesy of Dynacorn.

It’s a classic car lover’s dream come true: Now it is possible to build a 1964-66 Ford Mustang convertible from the wheels up using an officially licensed body shell.

The body shell for the original Mustang convertible, now in production and available for restorers as a Ford-licensed restoration part, gives classic car enthusiasts a new option in putting their classic dream Mustang ragtop back on the road.

“The 1964-66 Mustang is the most restored vintage vehicle. But the number of original 1964-66 vintage bodies is shrinking every year,” said Dennis Mondrach, Ford Restoration Parts licensing manager. “Most of the original Mustangs left in scrapyards are rusted or wrecked beyond repair. The new body shell is made of virgin metal and uses modern welding techniques. It comes rustproofed, and after final adjustment and finish preparation of the body panels, it is ready for painting and final assembly.”

To build a restored Mustang using the new shell, the powertrain, suspension and brakes, the electrical systems, the interior and trim can either be bought new or transferred from an existing car to the new body. Original parts that can’t be reused from an old Mustang can be replaced with Ford-approved restoration parts. Mondrach says that nearly all the parts needed to build a complete new 1964-66 Mustang convertible, except for some minor body hardware, are now available from Ford-approved classic parts suppliers.

Ford-approved Mustang restoration parts can be found at www.fordrestorationparts.com.

For a restoration part to be approved by Ford, suppliers must meet or exceed the fit, finish and quality of the original, said Mondrach. In order to keep classic Ford-built vehicles on the road, Ford allows parts suppliers access to original technical drawings, blueprints and specifications for parts.

The new body shell not only can save restorers time and money, but enable them to build a strong, well-engineered classic.

“Instead of spending money fixing rust and welding in new panels, restorers can now simply transfer their powertrain, interior and trim parts onto the new body shell,” said Mondrach.

The ’65 Mustang body shell is constructed of higher-grade steel than the original, said Jim Christina, vice president of Dynacorn International, the Ford-approved company that is manufacturing the ’65 Mustang. “We use a modern universal automotive-grade steel that is actually stronger than the original, and modern welding techniques along with more welds to strengthen the body,” Christina said.

The ’65 body is in production now and can be delivered by freight truck to any address. The ’65 Mustang body includes the doors and trunk lid and all the sheet metal from the radiator support to the taillight panel except the hood and front fenders. Those items are available separately. The ’65 Mustang body shell starts at $15,000.

America’s love affair with the original Mustang is still going strong after nearly 50 years. Debuting in April 1964, the original Mustang sold more than 1.2 million units – including more than 174,000 convertibles – before its first redesign in 1967. The 1964-66 Mustang has long been America’s most popular classic car of the postwar era. It is frequently the No. 1 most insured car at Hagerty Insurance, the world’s No. 1 insurer of classic and collectible cars.

The new body shell can be made into a 1964½, 1965 or 1966 Mustang, based on the powertrains and trim parts added to it. It is the third classic Mustang body shell now available to restorers. The other two are the 1967-68 and the 1969-70 fastback bodies.

Ford will display a new 1965 Mustang body shell Tuesday through Thursday at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. It will be parked next to a restored 1965 convertible to demonstrate the high quality of the assembly.

We shall call this one a container barn find, why you ask, well because this very rare 1968 DeTomaso Mangusta was literally found in a container stored inside a barn where it has sat for the last 30-plus years. Only recently has this rare DeTomaso Mangusta seen the light of day as the owner has seen fit to auction it off on eBay.

This Mangusta carries a VIN of 8MA522 which translates to the 11th built in 1968. Further inspection tells us this Mangusta features factory steel hood and rear gullwing doors unlike other Mangustas built in 1968 which were made out of Aluminum. Also this Mangusta is believed to be the very first made with pop-up headlights. This car was said to be running when it was parked back in 1979 with around 40k miles. The engine is a 289 Ford with a 4 barrel carburetor mated to a ZF manual transmission.

Some believe this DeTomaso Mangusta could be a prototype given the pop-up headlights, steel hood and rear gullwing doors although nothing has been documented to the authenticity of the vehicle. The seller is looking for a buy it now price of $99,999.

As the new voice of Chevrolet, Tim Allen may want to keep his latest project car a secret considering its a ’55 Ford powered by a 5.4-liter Ford-GT spec long block. Allen’s project car is being built by Moal Coachbuilders out of Oakland, California who have a 100 year history of fabricating automobile’s so no doubt this will be another masterpiece.

The ’55 Ford features custom exterior body mods including frenched headlights and a Thunderbird-style hood scoop. To aid the 5.4-liter motor a pair of charge cooler vents have been integrated into the bumper and the screened intakes help feed the airbox. The 5.4-liter engine will be good for around 800 horsepower with power put to the ground through an automatic transmission from a Ford Lightning.

The interior of the ’55 Ford is bare right now except for the Dynomat sound deadning material but we have learned it will feature a bench seat to try and retain the original look.

For a closer look check out all the photos below. As we learn more we will post an update.

Project cars come in many different makes, models and price ranges but some may never be as new as this totaled 2012 Mustang Boss 302. The new Boss 302 #0264 you see pictured above was purchased new only 2 months ago and only has 1,600 miles on the clock. From what we can see it still has several of its core parts intact including the engine, drivetrain, wheels and airbags which never deployed for some reason. According to the present owner the engine starts and runs just fine which is always a plus.

The Boss 302 found its way to eBay with the help of a drunk driver who ran the owner off the road. The Boss now has a Buy It Now price of $20,000 which is not bad considering the engine would set you back $15K from Ford Racing.

One of the best features that make this a great project car is the title. Supposedly it has a clean California title which means this car can be rebuilt back to new and sold to the public without ever having the dreaded salvage name on the title.

For more check out the photos below or head on over to the eBay auction.

Shelby Super Cars (SSC) ups the ante in the supercar world with the reveal of the Tuatara, a 1,350 horsepower all Carbon Fiber king of supercars. Details of the new Tuatara supercar are few and far between but we do know it will be powered by a 7-liter DOHC V8 twin-turbo mated to a 7-speed manual or SMG transmission. Most of the vehicle is made out of Carbon Fiber to reduce weight including carbon fiber wheels. The chassis features a Carbon Fiber cab, Carbon Fiber sub-frames and aluminum crash structures.

One man’s dream has turned into a country’s first Supercar. Luc Chartrand, a native of Canada and a self-taught auto-builder created the Plethore LC-750, an exotic supercar. The idea for the Plethore project was dreamed up by Chartrand in the mid-nineties and the first one was unveiled at the Montreal Auto Show back in in January of 2007. The Plethore uses Corvette suspension parts and is powered by the supercharged LS9 V8 from the Corvette ZR1. Chartrand hopes one day his supercar will be raced at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
