What was your inspiration for the room?
I wanted the room to be girly, pink, childish but chic the same time.

What best describes your decorating style?
Elements of country chic, but more colorful and happy as it is a child room.

Please share with us your choice of paint colors, furniture, art, diy tips, etc.
I painted the pink stripes on the one wall using painter’s tape. I painted the other two walls light green and made the mural scenery on the last wall, where I put the fairies stickers.

The two beds and the desk are handmade by a professional based on my designs. I think they turned out beautiful. The shelves and the nightstand are from IKEA and the desk chair is one of my projects.

I made the lighting, the hangers, the bow holder, the bulletin boards and the paintings and plates on the walls as well.

What is your favorite item(s) in the room?
I love the furniture and the desk chair. I also like the bedding and the mural.

Is there anything else you would like PN readers to know?
I am dealing with this room for 4 months now and I have enjoyed every single moment.

With Halloween behind us (despite the loads of candy hidden throughout the house!) gift-giving season is just around the corner. Kid-friendly companies are feeling awfully generous this season…Yay! Set the table with Fall colors and a simple centerpiece. This “give thanks” centerpiece from Parent’s Magazine is simple to do, colorful and makes the event more child-like. Serve up a few snacks when they first arrive - paper cones filled with chex mix, and “turkey” fruit kabobs - the perfect snacks to eat while doing some fun activities. For dinner, go ahead and bypass the traditional turkey. Instead, think about making turkey wrap sandwiches, serve with mashed potatoes (which we know all kids love!), and turkey cupcakes for dessert.

You should have a couple of activities to keep the kids busy during the party. Have a craft table set up with different foam shapes cut out and some glue sticks. They can make turkey napkin rings or hats to wear during the party. I absolutely LOVE this next idea….Parent’s Magazine came up with this darling yarn-wrapped turkey. Have the turkey prepared before the kids arrive, as well as a basket of pre-cut feathers (use colorful construction paper). Have the kids write what they are thankful for on a feather and stick it into the turkey. I’m sure you will get everything from “I’m thankful for my family” to “I’m thankful for candy!” It’s cute, creative and will help to remind the kids what Thanksgiving is really about!

Send the kids home with a cute, little party favor. I found these at Chasing Fireflies, and you can order them here. However, I think you could also put together a version of this yourself, too. A glass jar, a personalized label, and some cute ribbon….candy corn never looked so cute!

I was recently contacted by a local mommy-to-be, Kim to custom design her baby announcements to match her daughter’s nursery. What a great idea! I’ve created baby shower invitations and décor to match the baby’s room, but not the actual birth announcements! Kim was planning ahead and brought me samples of the custom designed bedding fabric for inspiration. I pulled out the colors and flower design to incorporate in the design. We finalized the design prior to little miss Avery’s arrival! Once she was ready for her close-up, a professional photographer took these gorgeous photos of her, and her darling room! A new concept for The TomKat Studio was born ~ Perfect Match Baby Announcements!

Soon after, I was referred by another fabulous photographer to first time mom-to-be of twins, Ashlee. She was open to ideas for her twins’ announcements, and after talking with the photographer about their custom designed nursery, I suggested that we match the announcement to room! Ashlee loved the idea, and I came up with several designs incorporating the black and white with pops of dark pink & blue.

What is the theme of the party and why?
Since before Aiden was even born I knew I wanted to throw him an out of this world party that no one had ever seen. I decided to do a “robot” theme because I loved the idea and it went great with my little one but also because I knew it would be a challenge to pull it together.

Did you find inspiration from any particular photos or websites?
Sure did! I did a random search online for “robot parties” and Hostess with the Mostess’ website came up. I absolutely fell in LOVE! I was also inspired searching her blog to incorporate a candy buffet. I found Aiden’s robot cake off of Flickr.

Please share with us where you purchased your supplies.
I found a few robot themed things at Target. Goody bags, stickers, etc. I also bought a few things from Party City. Ribbon, scrapbook paper and small things at Hobby Lobby and AC Moore. Glass containers and candy added to the party.

What was was the most creative item you made for the party?
I’d have to say it would have to be the big robots we pinned on the walls. They took me quite a awhile to make. Long nights and hard work for about 2 weeks. Beginning with projecting them on a wall, tracing them, filling them in and putting on the finishing touches. All the small parts were traced on construction paper and glued into place and pipe cleaners were also used.

Do you have any advice or tips for someone inspired to throw a similar party?
Plan in advance! Start searching online and if you find something, buy it! I found alot of things we’re discontinued just a few mere days after I found them. Details matter and don’t be afraid to ask for help!
