Don't get us wrong, that's a good review from us. Chawan's like a modern day dignified kopitiam - a tasteful crossbreed between Kluang Station, Ipoh Old Town Cafe and Madam Kwan's. And with where it's sitting, it looks to be doing very well. The menu's a tad small, but the coffee list is impressive and the food portion, generous. Besides serving exquisite coffee (which is what a kopitiam should do), the fresh mango juice is sinfully thick (just the way i like it) and the nasi lemak, pleasurable to the palate. The place also offers a pleasantly comfortable and relaxed ambiance with rustic and old school kinda shop-like interior. Quite charming...

So unless you plan to unwind here with a couple of beers and some good friends, seriously, do not bother with this place. Even with both the restaurant's speciality, the Mix Frittas and Lamb Shank was freakin appalling. I mean, who makes Lamb Shank with sweet barbeque sauce and rock hard, dry, frozen (which you can tell were micro-waved before serving) carrots?

Oh God... pass me the Bloody Mary.

We have a total of 1500+ pictures, and it's a real headache deciding which to pick for the blog, cause we want our best ones here. So i'm thinking, give us one more week to sort them pictures out. :)

Ok, back to the post. So we met up with Adel and Munkao first chance we had after our trip, to pass them the 'small' pressies we bought for them. Munkao's HK pressie was still with us from our HK trip, which was like 5 months ago, so yeah, it's loooong overdue. We were catching up on what's been going on, cause it has been months since we all last met up, and for someone, the last few months have been very interesting... yes, we're talking about you Munkao. It was nice, but we hope you're feeling much better!

So yeah, let's go somewhere this year-end! :)

This fantastic stop-motion animation was apparently showcased and was a big hit at Cannes Advertising Festival. 7 minutes long, MUTO is the new short film by Blu who hails from Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I'm so in that manual animation phase right now. Yeah, he does seem to have a fondness for pigs.

Fuck... i wish i could draw.

Pictures courtesy of Mattias Inks.

I've always been a mainstream music kinda person, only because i never have time to check out what's really out there. The only time i really listen to music, is while i'm driving, so duhhh, obviously everything i've come to know are ones played over a million times on the radio. But this has really made me open up... now every time i hear something new before it hits the radio, i get slightly excited. Hahah.. i know.. it's so lame.

Anways, i fuckin love her new album, Begin to Hope, with Samson, Fidelity and Better being some of my absolute fave tracks :)

Pictures courtesy of Regina Spektor.

Holy crap... it's been a while since we came here, and the place has a whole new hosts of restaurants, including our favourite Rakuzen, Kluang Station, Coffeebean and even New Zealand Natural, among many others. A new kid on the block, La Casa looked promising - small, cosy and decently priced. We sat outside, on the back patio, and was accompanied by a fantastic view of the park. The food was good, but again, i think we got carried away with the ordering. We had the Baguette with Chilli & Garlic, Beef Kebab with Garlic Aglio Olio and Oven Baked Fish. Who cares if he's not even doing it the legal way ;) Anyways, we were in Cloth & Clef at Changkat Bukit Bintang to catch his farewell and his band do their last gig here in KL. Don't Make Ian Cry. That's the name of the band. Well, you'd really have to know the guy to understand how the name came about. Fitting. They also played surprising well although Ian looked a bit shy at the start. But i think drinks helped him become more of a rocker as the night passed on. The place was also surprising tiny but cozy and cute.

Of course, the night had to start off... weird. Imagine me and Julie standing in front of a dodgy hotel on Jalan Alor in a short dress and high heels. Not good. Then we and Kevin Lunsong ate at a dodgy Thai restaurant which seems to nest half of the African nation, along with their bling-a-ling and D-cups. So i'll tell you what i told them - i do come here often, i just keep to the other end of the street.

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3223/2951186726_5ebac86fe2_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3010/2951187602_58b8d2b78e_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3227/2950334515_73ee521efc_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/2950334101_3dc6a49eaf_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3050/2951186470_5b3bd131d3_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/2953136173_e2f38d6fc8_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3187/2951188230_806f3955c7_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3162/2951188114_2d6e193268_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3011/2950335111_4271466057_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/2951187994_7062c95511_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2221/2950334943_c13d3c1a4d_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3189/2950334215_752ee90009_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3065/2953986782_8aeec54ef9_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3248/2950334343_3545f3f4a5_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3254/2950334657_8da6b4a8e9_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3146/2951186592_6f52ce1b42_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />

This time around, we were actually on our way to KL, when a detour because of the massive jam took us to Subang instead. It's been a looooong time.. and the place has really expanded. More shops, more food, but still the same kinda crowd.

Anyways, we ended up at Pasta de Gohan - a small restaurant at a corner that served pasta, with a japanese twist. We were expecting something incredibly chinky, but lucky us, the food turned out really good. Surprise, surprise! And everything was served within 5 minutes after we ordered. If we had to sum it up we'd say, "Great food at low prices accompanied by super speedy service."

I think we'll be back.

It's my flavor of the month. The typeface was designed at the Monotype foundry's in-house design studio in 1934. The project was supervised by Frank Hinman Pierpont. Slab serifs are similar in form and in typographic voice to realist sans-serifs like Akzidenz Grotesk or Franklin Gothic. Rockwell is geometric, its upper- and lowercase O more of a circle than an ellipse. A serif at the apex of uppercase A is distinct. The lowercase a is two-story, somewhat incongruous for a geometrically drawn typeface.

Because of its monoweighted stroke, Rockwell is used primarily for display rather than lengthy bodies of text. Rockwell is based on an earlier, more condensed slab serif design called Litho Antique. The 1933 design for Monotype was supervised by Frank Hinman Pierpont.

The JUXTAPOSED: Religion. Designed by Mike and Maaike for BlankBlank, this piece is made from reclaimed hardwood and only 50 pieces are made available. When I saw this for the first time, I fell in love with it. When I read about the idea behind it, I was on cloud nine.

Here's an excerpt on this piece taken from BlankBlank site. 5,084,000,000 people, 5,360 pages, 3,700 years, 243 countries, 7 books, and 1 shelf. For the first time, the world's most influential religious texts are brought together and presented on the same level, their coexistence acknowledged and celebrated.

Too bad, Scientology:(

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 500px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2391/2926785334_da41000ac6_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 500px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3011/2925933203_c0e1c4f8c4_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 500px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3074/2926785466_d5803db208_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 500px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3177/2926785556_c667c4ced9_o.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
Pictures courtesy of BlankBlank site.

Oh, and they sell stuff too, so go check their site up, you might just end up getting something nifty from Kozyndan.

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 1000px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3101/2924417704_81169f273d_b.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 1000px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/2924417696_d7ab461e5b_b.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 1000px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3113/2924417686_ec24ab4f76_b.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 1000px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3240/2924417700_47d3c542f5_b.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 1000px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3029/2924417690_453973d505_b.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
Artworks courtesy of Kozyndan site.

"Kozyndan are Los Angeles based mad scientists. they are working on a secret formula for controlled nuclear fusion, and are creating a line of edible chickens. This very fine institution is responsible for moulding me into the man I am now. Girls, overnight parties (which include the vices mentioned beforehand) and above all, the priceless explosive expertise, are some of the "practical" extra-curricular activities that were chucked alongside my textbooks when I enrolled here. Looking at it now, I must say it did the same to my dear cousins.

"Sticky and Fresh as Dope"

That's how I would describe my memories of high school. It's been a good twelve years since I left but I still remember the teacher we locked in the staff lavatory during break period, the toilet booth that we blew up with hand-made bombs and the poor sod's motorcycle helmet we urinated into. Ahh, Ye Good Ole Days.

Don't get me wrong, Penang Free School ain't a den for scoundrels. It is, or it used to be one of the most prestigious school in Asia. The first English-medium secondary school in South East Asia and you'd have to be invited to study here. Only pupils who did exceptionally well in Primary School, so to speak, will get one. The school was founded by Rev. Sparke Hutchings on October 21st, 1816, on the island of Penang, Malaysia. Its first headmaster was Mr. James Cox 1816-1821. Its original premises on Farquhar Street first housed the Hutchings School, but is now the Penang State Museum. In 1928, the school moved to its current location on Jalan Masjid Negeri (also known as Green Lane). The Free School is the Alma Mater of many established, well known and successful Malaysians. An individual pursuing his secondary education in the Free School is commonly known as a Free, once the individual leaves the Free School, he is automatically an Old Free.

A toast to her, FORTIS ATQUE FIDELIS!

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3125/2915318796_6b2df3d4c7_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3283/2914475361_50691587cd_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3210/2915318396_ce77e1e233_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3173/2914475693_1ae80030e7_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3172/2914476175_6a6e05ec43_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3097/2915319164_7a7040c36e_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3120/2914476279_744e81a10c_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3289/2915319688_833968b26d_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />

This website pretty much just showcases all the seats from all the UBahn stations in Berlin! I know what you're thinking... why would anyone want to document these? God knows... but it's kinda awesome just looking at them (yeah, like i said, i think we're just really excited about the trip!!!). We only wished the photographer had a better camera with him/her when he/she took them pictures. Some are pretty low res... but still, they're uber cool!

Pictures courtesy of berlin-transport.de site.

In this case, it was over the ice-cream counter and the sinful chocolate fountains. It's like watching a lil kid peering through a glass window into a candy store. So cute. But other than the food, which we found to be just ok, we will always remember this place for our many embarrassing moments, which we will never ever everrr disclose here. You'll just have to ask us if you want to know :P

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3244/2894616923_7d255935eb_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3252/2895467508_5aa39ccece_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3135/2895462898_12058cfda3_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3224/2894619689_548d6ceafe_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3173/2895458930_9b33b2f6af_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3220/2895460950_d7a82e4cd5_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3199/2895465940_deb3613b8f_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3071/2895462314_1e013be4c7_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3086/2894617713_6582d2ea4f_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/2894624971_956c7a79ef_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3232/2894623539_4f27aea11a_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3213/2894624421_d3c4d22004_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />

We're usually up and out for lunch around 3pm, which is just in time for them to close up and get ready for dinner. But hey, we found a nice nook that was open for fab food at yummy prices at speedy pace. And the mango juice was again, luscious. Executionally, it turned out way better than expected because Desmond, our director was awesome and our talent Nabiha was a pro! Of course, we had better ideas (which the clients had kindly killed), but still, they both did a great job at what we had to work on. And we all hope you lurveeeee it too! ;)

Oh, and i loved how all these huge old mansions have been turned to offices. This is the third such house cum office we been to in the last 2 weeks. I lurve how the new+old feel of the place makes you feel - free, comfortable and relaxed. Makes it easier to get work done, don't you think?

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3056/2872829242_c06efef837_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3180/2871998565_39fe0bef4a_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3239/2871998401_1842460db6_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2166/2872828518_ffb6161e8e_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3028/2871996291_d177f05277_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3278/2872826552_45a6e48b2b_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3139/2872826400_f255a4ceac_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3068/2871995815_ec37839ed2_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3245/2872825610_bddb8a9f8c_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3281/2871994897_5b8412819f_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3027/2871994509_7510a174a6_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3117/2872829374_f0cdfa021a_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />

So we've missed our usual mall-rat activities like window shopping for hours, lazing in some cafe/restaurant over good food and people watching. It was nice to have the 17th off to try and get back to our routine, but pity Naz-i wasn't feeling too well. The food at Chinoz wasn't too bad though. This is definitely the same Chinoz at KLCC, cause the food menu looks the same and i recognize that mango juice anywhere! That's my current addiction - cold, thick, delicious mango juice...

<img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3095/2872844076_b0b3cf68c5_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3224/2872844234_71ba6f3acb_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3028/2872071609_ce5dc02da6_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3213/2872014447_c05897e8db_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3219/2872013131_d4df151a9a_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3261/2872843918_3faa5bdcaf_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3086/2872012711_8d92c821e1_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" /><img style="left; margin:0 0px 0px 0;width: 250px;"src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/2872013289_9796850977_m.jpg" border="0" alt="" />
