The 11th annual Margate Meltdown is the most recently established of Ace Cafe London’s free to attend major ride outs.
The ride out from the cafe to Margate has been held each year on occasion of the annual Spring Bank Holiday. Margate seafront and harbour is given over to hundreds motorcycles and scooters, diverse club and trade stands and a stage with live entertainment.
Motorcycles usually arrive around midday.

POW! Thanet is a festival of Arts and Culture celebrating and exploring issues around Feminism, Women and Girls

There are three sessions coming up where you can meet the team and find out more about next year’s festival, ask questions and put forward ideas.
Tuesday 22nd May, 6-8pm - Kafeine, 35 Albion St, Broadstairs CT10 1LU.
Wednesday 23rd May, 6-8pm - Vinyl Head, Addington St, Ramsgate CT11 9JN
Thursday 24th May, 6-8pm - MarMar, 80 Northdown Rd, Margate CT9 2RE

The are a fantastic Charity and provide a fantastic service to disabled and disadvantaged people here in Kent. Strode Park Foundation is at Herne in Herne Bay visit their website www.strodepark.org.uk/
the reason I am writing this post isn't just to say I had a fantastic week in their care but ro promote the work they do and to pull at peoples Heart Strings . Charities are always asking for money and Strode Park are no different the work they do is with children to adults. The website explains their goals far better than I ever can CLICK HERE FOR CHILDRENS CARE SERVICE. I purposely put childrens needs first that is far more appealing than the needs of a sixty something Multiple Sclerosis sufferer (Me) whose needs were not able to be catered for at 18 other homes in Kent .

I am am a disabled old man, my body is broken and for moving around I use an electric wheelchair. Multiple Sclerosis has robbed me of so much physical stuff I am broken. But my mid works and it may take me several minutes to write a few lines of text it is still a lot better than my handwriting!! I know how hard it is to earn a crust as an independent trader. I earned a living I bought up three kids with my fantastic wife who is now my carer. We were never rich we have been fortunate to always have had a roof over our heads and food on the table anything else was a bonus. So now in my small way I try with both this blog and my twitter account etc to drive people to look at local business and to spend their with the local indie shops and trades. I love this picture it sums up my feeling better than any words I could ever write

My predictive text wanted me to write pub of the world but the award was for CAMRA Thanet Pub of the Year. With the Thanet Beer Festival over the Easter Bank Holiday again this year the prestigious award drew many more visitors to The Two Halves. Shaun and Jackie put on an extra few barrels and many new customers left happy at having been able to sample the new beers Shaun had available. There is always a great selection of beers craft ciders wines and artisan gins. Shaun is able to offer a gluten free beer as well. I am not sure how many different beers has had on since opening but it must run into hundreds. I am sure all my readers wish Shaun and Jackie all the very best and congratulations for winning the Thanet CAMRA Pub of the year.

Ross told me about his plans for the new website last month, as with all these things it took longer than anticipated but the wait was worth it. I was one of the first visitors to rossandrews.co.uk
and am pleased to say it is as good as Ross had said it would be. I am a great admirer of the wave photography pictures Ross produces. His hours and hours of work are evident in the quality of his marvelous images. He has had several exhibitions locally at the Pie Factory, Botany Bay Hotel and also at New Kent Art in Broadstairs . I know the connotations of the expression but in this post it to do with The Two Halves micropub on Margates seafront right on the edge of the wonderful Old Town, and overlooking the Harbour. The Two Halves has just won Thanet CAMRA’s Pub of the Year 2018 and as always Shaun and Jackie will have something different to drink for the weekend hence the post title. (I pinched from their facebook page) To win this prestigious award from Thanets CAMRA has been a dream of Shauns but Jackie wont let it go to his head he is still the striker of the spile so he often gets soaked

Voice100 Premiere at Turner Contemporary in Margate.

On Wednesday 7 March 2018 at approximately 6.20pm my latest sound installation VOICE100 will premiere at Turner Contemporary in Margate. Commissioned by POW Thanet for International Women’s Day, VOICE100 is a 5-channel spoken word sound installation that presents the changing experiences and perceptions of women since (some) women started to receive the vote in 1918. The work is created from 100 interviews I undertook with women, men and children aged 5-98 years.

The premiere is taking place during the opening night of POW! Thanet's week long celebration of women, with various art events taking place across Thanet. The opening starts at 6pm with a MASSIVE choir led by Emily Watts. The gallery will also be open late, so it's well worth popping down for an evening of art and fun. The full POW! This event is free and you can just show up, but you are encouraged to obtain a free ticket from Brown Paper Tickets to enable POW to keep track of audience numbers.

Margate traders are preparping for Summer

Yep summer is on its way. The seasons march on relentlessly. Summer follows spring as surely as winter has preceded the season we now wish gone. Personally I detest the cold weather, I never used to. I loved working outside in all weather's but now in my dotage and confined to a wheelchair I find that the cold weather disagrees with me. Which brings me back to summer and Margate. My own view is that we no longer have seasons here in Thanet. When I moved to Ramsgate almost forty years ago Thanet had a definite Summer Season but now in the twenty first century things have changed. Margate is now my home and as such most of my efforts blogging and tweeting are to promote Thanet but primarily Margate and most of the shops and galleries do suffer a downturn when the sun stops shining but visitors now have more reasons to visit. The Old town is buzzing all year round, Dreamland has many events such as this weeks GEEK festival. The Turner Contemporary or as I like to say the Tate Margate have fantastic exhibitions all year round currently Journeys with 'The Waste Land' is a major exhibition exploring the significance of T.S. Eliot’s poem The Waste Land through the visual arts.(I pinched that from their website)
The list of reasons to visit Thanet are many but I just love the place and just want to encourage more people to enjoy the charms of this tiny corner of the country. VISIT THANET soon
