The Department for Energy and Climate Change looses appeal. I am pleased to read the government has lost the stupid appeal trying to cut feed in tariffs. I find it astounding the department courts the wind turbine industry but tries to decimate Solar which in my mind give home owners a sense of being a part of the green revolution and employs thousands of small individuals . The money spent on Turbines goes strait overseas. Read The Press Association article here

Derelict eysore gets another step closer to restoration

I see from Thanet Councils website the appalling building on Fort hill the Fort Road Hotel is another step closer to restoration. Having read the article and seen the idea of the Spitalfields Trust becoming involved. If 30 odd developers cant make a bid on the place maybe TDC needs to join up with a charity who has experience of old site development and the Spitalfields Trust seems the perfect answer to getting the derelict site sorted. I have tried to locate a website for the trust and the best I can come up with is newspaper articles and magazine features about them click here

Thanet 365 Project

Today I have contacted Nathalie Banaigs, founder – director of Kent Creative Arts who have run 365 projects in Faversham Sheppy and Canterbury. She is willing to talk over how they have run their projects and set us in the right direction. My question is this :- ANYONE FANCY SETTING UP A 365 PHOTO PROJECT FOR THANET ?

Ruby Tuesday 2

Yep it is Tuesday and that can only mean one thing RUBY TUESDAY 2 and a quick flick through photos of the last week has turned up some giant tomatoes advertised on the Tesco supermarket wall. My wife tells me they wont fit in her carrier bag so I havent tasted them or the giant carrots advertised in the poster next display along they must be ten feet long.

Thanet deserves less? why Driver resigned

I thought about the Ian Driver resignation and came up with the conclusion that the maverick councillor must think Thanet residents deserve less from our council. He wants money set aside to make Thanet a pleasant place to live and visit with flowers along the front and tended gardens plus council sponsored events to woo visitors into spending time and money in the area to be used elsewhere.Not that he knows where TDC should use the money but he knows he dislikes flowers. The only thing I can think he would like to have Thanet look like is an East German town before the fall of the wall, barren and inhospitable I know this is a very simplistic view of our ex Labour councillors decision as to why he has left the party he was elected to, but it struck me that Thanet has many problems and the few thousand TDC plans to spend on flowers wont go anywhere to fixing them. Personally I think the local Labour party will be better off without Mr Driver after all they have more than enough problems already.

A Sideways Launch on Faversham Creeek

My brother lent me a copy of A Sideways Launch to watch. I am old enough to remember Favershams shipyard and it bought back memory's I had long forgotten. I went down to Abbey street once to watch a boat launched sideways into the creek, I stood on the quay at Gillets surrounded by crowds of people who like me had come to see the spectacle of a boat being launched sideways into the narrow creek. Oh memories to cherish. Faversham has changed, this video bought back some of what I had forgotten. I dug out the red bird feeder from an old folder from 2010 and my wife said thats boring find something else more recent. Well this is from last week and from my last post. Pegwell Bay Nature Reserve

I last shared this on Blogger almost two years ago, time flys. The cafe at Pegwell bay nature reserve serves a darn good bacon sandwich and yesterday I got my first one of 2012. In actual fact it was a Bacon and Brie with cranberry jelly. Bird watching was my primary reason to be there but food came a close second . I cant move very well at the moment so I stayed in the car but saw marvelous dispays put on by the huge flocks of Lapwings feeding and flying.

Money Sacks new year text is not Feng Shui

My wife Just received a text saying that Chinese Feng Shui says years with five Saturdays and Sundays is a lucky year and only happens every 800 years and to forward the text to get good luck. Hmmmmmmmmmm should have checked it out first this month has only four saturdays but five Sundays Mondays and Tuesdays and this happens with boring regularity every few years so I have a feeling the only winner of this text will be the mobile phone company.

Well imagine my disappointment when I got to the blog only to discover last week Ruby Tuesday had ended. Oh well I says not to be, but wait a cotton picking minute! You know how it is, you are mindlessly surfing and you end up on a site that you had no intention of seeking out and is of no particular interest. Well it has just happened and it has nothing to do with scantily clad ladies so if you are waiting for the porn, wrong site. I saw a bottle of wine on a Facebook friends post and off I went googling the make and name and then distracted I clicked on a site and I was the equivalent of Alice off down the rabbit hole and I ended up on a Vintage Port site wondering why the vintages only start at 1947?and then I did it. No not find pre '47 I read a review of a recent Port and I have long wondered what planet tasters come from but this one revealed a new taste/smell to me he described the alluring bouquet amongst other things to contain pencil lead ! I kid ye not the whole read like this :- The purple/black-colored 2007 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port exhibits an alluring bouquet of mineral, pencil lead, espresso, violets, black currant, and fruitcake. Dense and structured on the palate, it has an excellent integration of alcohol, acidity, and tannin. It should be one of the longer lived wines of the vintage with 12-15+ years of aging potential and a drinking window extending through 2037. Score: 91/100
Now I as you know am no expert in anything so I am the least qualified to comment on an others description of something I very much doubt I will ever taste so don't take a blind bit of notice of anything I say, But Pencil lead. If I was anywhere near a drink that smells like pencil lead I wouldn't drink it I would offer it to Michael so he could use it to improve his artistic side. Pencil lead? I have heard the expression put some lead in your pencil but I don't think this is what does it at least I always thought those scantily clad ladies had more to do with pencils than wine, but then I as I said before know nothing. I am off to sample some of my grandsons crayons Hic

On further reasearch Port is the oldestregulated wine and records start 1756 :- The Douro valley where port wine is produced was defined and established as a protected region, or appellation in 1756, making it the oldest defined and protected wine region in the world. I LOVE WIKIPEDIA

Seasons Greetings

I hope you have all had a great time over the Christmas break. I have had a fantastic time so much so I had to spend yesterday in bed. Nothing to do with food or drink but my MS. I was so exhasted I could hardly move so I slept virtually all day and night, but today I feel almost human again. Our grandson and our eldest daughter have taken the wife off to feed the sea gulls hence I have time to blog. I am listening to Hugh Lauries rendition of St. James Infirmary no it wasnt a Christmas pressie I didn't get a single CD this year. Well thats me up to date I hope you have all had a great time, I doubt you woould ever see me at the sales but if you brave them I hope you bag a bargain.

I dont know how I ended up there but I did and now I want one. My Brother came to see me last week and left a copy of Old Glory the steam engine magazine so I am blaming him. I thumbed through as usual and saw that Preston Services are open again over the New Year and will have a steam engine or two working. And from there I ended up at the STEAM TRACTION WORLD website, they make miniature steam engines (if you can call a one ton model miniature) well I got to thinking how about one for Christmas ! And if I could have one it would take a fair sized stocking to hold it WHAT DO YOU RECON MY CHANCES ARE.?
