With a tip of the hat to the folks over at Wired.com's Autopia car blog, comes a story about a custom car that is just cool, it is hot.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS.

Designers Emile Pop and Justin De Boer took a supercharged Corvette engine and stuck it inside a carbon-fiber frame. That's a 6.2 liter, supercharged engine with almost 700 horsepower! Initial estimates say this beast will do 0-60 in 3.2 seconds. Top speed for the Savage is said to be 200mph+. I would hope so!

The excess doesn't stop there. This is no ordinary car, and thus would not have ordinary doors. It has 4, yes, 4, scissor doors.

Priced at $340,000,production is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2010 and the car's builders plan to build just 4 a year for 5 years.

Oh, and by the way, it comes with it's own champange cooler! What not champage flutes? Oh, wait.....there they are!

This just hurts to look at it.

WreckedExotics.com always has those "how the heck did they do that" sort of pictures of totaled exotic cars.

These pics of from Australia, where some young guy literally wrapped his Ferrari around a telephone pole.
He had a passenger in the car with when they were seen racing down a street at high speed.

As you can see, the pole literally tore the car in half.
What's that saying? "If it breaks in half, both halves are yours!"

Believe it or not, after totalling this quarter of a million dollar Italian super car, both occupants actually made it out alive!

From the UK comes a car that, yes, RUNS on chocolate.
World First Racing has developed a Formula 3 race car that is made largely from recycled products, or in most cases...vegetables!
World First says the car is 95 percent biodegradble. Guess there is no need to clean up after a crash....just bury the remnants and it decomposes.

The steering wheel is composed of carrot fibers.
The body panels are made from the starch of potaotes.
The seat is composed of flax fiber shell, with soybean oil foam and recycled polyester fabric.
The side pods are made from recycled bottles.
Even the carbon fiber sections of the car are made from recycled carbon fiber.
Lubricants are plant based.

Lest you think this ride can't cut loose, it is outfitted with a BMW turbodiesel engine that can hit 150MPH.
The engine can run on on just about any biodiesel, but word is that the engineers chose chocolate.

I can just see the races now.....everyone will want to be drafting behind this car.
Talk about a sweet smelling exhaust.

Not your average "Daily Drivers"!
WorldClassDriving obviously doesn't put you in the seat of one of these beasts without providing you a bit of instruction.
WCD's instructors will, at the end of your instruction, allow you to hit the top speed they feel you can safely handle.
You can't drive 55, but they make sure you don't do 200 if yoiu can't handle it.
Plus, they keep ans instructor in the car with you.

This is a whole day affair, running from 8 am until 5:30.

The whole event occurs at an abandoned airport in the Miami/Dade county area that was intended to handle
the Super Sonic Transport (SST)......remembert that? The Concorde was the Euro version of this plane.
The SST needed a very ling runway to take off and land, so 40 years ago, the Everglades Jetport was built.
The Jetport has a 10,499 foot long runway.
That is about all the Jetport has......except for a small out-building for the Jetport's manager.
Sounds like a lonely job!

But.....2 miles of flat, straight, level pavement to put the hammer down!
For those select 200 individuals of you, and you know who you are, this sounds like the gift for

British Steam-Powered Car to attempt to break 103 year old speed record

From across the "pond" comes word on a vehicle that, quite honestly, looks like something Luke Skywalker would take to work.

The British Steam Car is an almost $1 Million dollar attempt to break a 103 year old land speed record for steam powered vehicles. That 1906 record was an incredible 127 mph, in a Stanley Steamer. (No, not the carpet cleaners!) The British Steam car team hopes to better this record by reaching a speed of 170 mph.

After rigorous testing in the UK, the team will be shipping the car to the U.S. They are planning to use the dry lake bed at Edwards Air Force Base, where the Shuttle sometimes lands. Although, word is Edwards has had a wetter than normal winter, so the bed may need to dry out. Where's global warming when we need it?

The Steam Car is a mixture of carbon-fiber composite and aluminum over a steel space frame chassis. Internally, it carries 12 boilers, and has almost 2 miles of tubing. De-mineralized water is pumped into the boilers at upwards of 50 liters a minute.
The steam is heated to 400 degress Celsius. This can be accomplished because the water is under extreme pressure. The resulting steam is injected into turbines at over twice the speed of sound. The turbines drive the rear wheels.
Even with the carbon-fiber and aluminum, this vehicle still tips the scales at 3 tons.

Check out the video below of a test run in the UK. The Steam Car may only have achieved a speed in this run of approximately 60 mph, but remember, it's running on steam!

Segway-based vehicle in development between GM and Segway

From articles in the Wall Street Journal Online and AutoBlog.com comes word that General Motors and Segway, Inc are working on Segway based vehicle that can move easily through crowded and congested city streets, thereby helping to relieve traffic congestion.

By the picture below, from Reuters, you can see that, unlike your standard Segway, this vehicle allows the operator to sit down.

This new vehicle has been code name P.U.M.A, for Personal Urban Mobility and Accesibility.

Like your basic Segway, the PUMA runs on batteries. Unlike your basic Segway, however, the PUMA uses wireless technology to avoid traffic jams.

The PUMA has a listed top-speed of 35 mph. So, with a speed faster than a brisk walk and the enclosed compartment, GM hopes the PUMA will be a vehicle that is adopted by the masses.

Projected cost of the PUMA, although still not disclosed, supposed to be one-fourth to one-third the cost of your basic economy car.

GM is aiming to have the PUMA on the road by 2012. They will be have on the streets of Manhattan on April 7th to start the buzz.

UPDATE --- Additional info has come forth.

Although the picture above does not show it, the PUMA is a two seater.

The wireless communication will leverage GM's OnStar technology. It will be able to advise your friends who may also own a PUMA as to your location. Yes, social networking arrives in urban transportation!

Also, GM seems to have indicated this vehicle will incorporate autonomous drivig and parking. Wowzah!

New Lake Country Professional Flat Pads

With all the talk of Lake Country's CCS, (Collapsed Cell Structure) technology, Lake Country Mfg's 6-1/2 inch Professional Flat Pads may appear a bit old-fashioned.

We are offering these pads in response to a number of requests from professional detailers and paint technicians who have spent their entire career working with flat pads.

Flat pads have a slightly different "feel" compared with CCS Technology pads especially when used with a rotary polisher. Once mastered, flat pads break down the polish quicker since fresh polish is not being constantly introduced to the surface. This allows a skilled technician in a high-volume detail shop or paint and body shop to accomplish more in less time.

We have the Lake Country Flat Pads in the following selections:

Yellow, 6.5 inch, Flat Compounding Pad - More aggressive cutting action than the white pad. Use this pad to compound older vehicles with a dull, chalky or neglected finish.

Orange, 6.5 inch, Flat Polishing Pad - This German foam has 90% of the cutting power of conventional compounding pads but finishes like the White Polishing Pad.

White, 6.5 inch, Flat Polishing Pad - The most often used pad. This pad has a mild cutting (cleaning) action and should be used to apply light compounds, swirl removing polishes and finishing polishes.

Green, 6.5 inch, Flat Polishing Pad - Green foam offers a mild polishing power yet leaves the surface with a high gloss finish. It is excellent on German finishes including the new scratch-resistant clear coats.

Black, 6.5 inch, Flat Glazing/Finessing Pad - This pad has no cutting or cleaning action. It should be used to apply a glaze or a finessing polish.

Red, 6.5 inch, Flat Glazing/
Finessing/Finishing Pad - Like the black pad, this red pad has no cutting or cleaning action but is softer than the black pad. It can be used to apply a glaze, a finessing polish or a finishing sealant.

Gold, 6.5 inch, Flat Concours Finishing Pad - Our super-soft, gold, Concours finishing pad is designed for applying the final wax or sealant to create the absolute best shine. This gold foam is forty percent softer than the red glazing/finessing foam listed above (100 pores per inch compared to 60 pores per inch for the red foam). The extra cell count means these gold pads disperse wax and sealants more evenly.
This is also the pad to use for layering one wax or sealant on top of another or for building up multiple layers of shine.

Guy Kawasaki gets an Audi R8 for a week.

It's good to be Guy Kawasaki.
For those of you who may not have heard of Guy Kawasaki, he is an Apple fellow.
Yes, that Apple.
Mr. Kawasaki has launched numerous Internet start-ups in the last few years, and his blog is one of those "must reads" for those involved in business and/or "all things Internet". His book "The Art of the Start" is one of those tomes any one starting their own business should read.

Guy has a post today on his blog about Audi giving (as in no charge!) him an Audi R8 to drive for a week and blog about his experience with this beast of a car. Like I said, it's good to be Guy Kawasaki!

If you do not know what an Audi R8 is, it's the car that Tony Stark drove in the Iron Man movie.
To say this car is fast, is an understatement. How about 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

This was quite a change for Guy, as he normally drives a Toyota Sienna minivan!
Guy even posts mp3's of the sound of the car as he is driving. I think I want this as my ringtone!

His conversation with his daughter is priceless.
Daughter: So this is a Honda?
Guy: No, this isn't a Honda. It's an Audi.
Daughter: Audi? Like my belly button?
Guy: No, that's an "outie".

Lake Country Kompressor Foam Pads.

Just introduced at Automechanika in Frankfurt, Germany, Lake Country's new Kompressor Foam pads are being hailed as the most technologically advanced polishing pads in the world.
