For a few months now, I’ve been working with an iPhone app publisher called Appliya Inc. to form a partnership with FUNimation. Now, after much hard work and keeping quiet, I can announce the great news! And the first app in the string of new FUNimation titles on the iPhone/iPod Touch is Fullmetal Alchemist: State Alchemy Exam. You can buy the app here on iTunes!

This app is a fun quiz game that features 130 questions that quiz your knowledge of physics, chemistry, and the events and characters of the original Fullmetal Alchemist TV series—one of the world’s most popular anime. Being an anime expert won’t be enough to master this challenge; you’ll need good knowledge of the fundamentals of science to earn the prestigious title of Alchemy Sage.

App Features:

• Beautiful art taken directly from the series, including rarely seen concept art
• Each exam question has a time limit, so players will have to think fast
• 12 reward wallpapers specially designed for the iPhone and iPod Touch
• Unlock certificates to mark your progress, and earn the title of “State Alchemist”
• Social networking features that let you post your best scores and achievements to compete with other players for bragging rights, or share your progress with friends on Facebook or Twitter
• More questions will be added via updates to give players new challenges

But the real big news here is that Appliya and FUNimation have committed to a whole series of apps based on FUNimation’s licensed titles. In addition to another Fullmetal Alchemist game we’re working on for Brotherhood, you’ll also see apps for Shin-Chan, Afro Samurai, and others. This is a really exciting endeavor that’s going to bring anime to the fans in a whole new form. FUNimation is the first anime company to really focus on the iPhone in this way, and hopefully it will convince other companies to expand their mobile offerings as well.

What do you expect? When there is an anime revolving around poop people you know there is going to be an uproar. Especially when one of their poop towns people resembles a stereotype of your culture. Koreans suggest that a character named “Kim Ben” (“Ben” is a pun on the Japanese character for excrement), who loves kimchee, has narrow eyes and is “easily angered,”.

“D-flux are two Chinese originated designers Nghi and Sterra, who create fashion inspired by manga comics and science fiction. The D-flux couple meet up for park and club performances, where dressed up friends stage mean fashion fights. D-flux clothes are used in pop videos and advertisements. All outfits are made to measure by the designers.”

So, these designers meet up and start play fighting in these odd plastic outfits. It’s kind of like LARPing (live action role playing), but with Asian people dressed up like characters from Power Rangers. Kinda Strange, but I could not turn away.

Anyways, for my triumphant return to semi-regular blogging, I give you, She-Ra! That’s right, Hulu now has 26 episodes of He-Man’s female counterpart, She-Ra! There’s something special about 80s cartoons that just makes me all warm inside.

Although NARUTO SHIPPUDEN will be unavailable on the night of March 19 due to TX Network’s programming schedule, the hit show will return on March 26 with two (2) brand-new episodes in a special double-header event on the night of March 26 at 7:59pm Japan Standard Time (JST). Crunchyroll is taking this unique opportunity to let NARUTO fans experience NARUTO SHIPPUDEN for free online within one hour of its Japanese broadcast.

NARUTO SHIPPUDEN episode 102 will be available on March 26 within one hour of its Japanese broadcast exclusively to Crunchyroll’s Anime Members, and the following week for free to the general public.

CrunchyRoll later released an update and said:

Because of the weird scheduling, we can show Episode 101 to EVERYONE on March 26, not just Anime Members! This will let everyone experience what a Crunchyroll Simulcast is like =) However, Episode 102 (the 2nd half of the double-header) will only be available to Anime Members on March 26, and April 2 for everyone else

CR is also celebrating Naruto-related events like Sakura and Kisame’s birthdays. Say what you will about CR, but they sure know how to get the good stuff to the fans.

But the big news here is VIZ doing near-simultaneous release. Anime bloggers and industry pundits like myself have been begging anime companies to do this for YEARS. And finally, they got the damn picture…at least, it seems that way. There’s no solid indication that VIZ plans to do this for all the remaining episodes of Shippuden, but one would guess that it’s something they’re at least seriously looking into.
