Please journey with us to Coastal California where mammoth elephant seals have come ashore for their yearly mating ritual. Every December the largest males haul ashore and lay claim to a stretch of beach and tend to their harems. Males are violent and aggressive during the mating season and intolerant of interlopers. Bloody, dramatic battles often occur between males. Watch as these interesting marine mammals go about their business of perpetuating the future of their species.

This documentary takes us into the heart of the Canadian Rockies during the bighorn sheep rut. Watch as males employ various mating strategies in order to gain access to females. Battles between males can last for hours. The stakes are high as not every male will get an opportunity to mate. Tremendous clashes and harsh conditions are commonplace for bighorn sheep in Alberta, Canada.

In the middle of the travel and tourism industry of the Florida Keys, resides a species of tiny white-tailed deer called the Key Deer. It is believed the species migrated to the Keys from the mainland across a land bridge that was later submerged, leaving the Key Deer trapped and left to become a part of the islands’ habitat. Commerce and development of the Keys over the past 70 years has disrupted the delicate ecosystem of these tropical islands, and the population of the Key Deer has fluctuated as a result. As tourists seek to spot members of this unique species, the Key Deer have become part of the very industry that threatens their existence. This nature documentary highlights the dangers surrounding this natural resource and stresses the importance of properly managing the Key Deer habitat in order to help grow the population and maintain the botanical and animal sanctuary of the Florida Keys.

One hundred ten thousand years ago glaciers moved through the Midwest United States, changing the topography of the region. One area consistently missed by advancing glaciers over the millennia is the Driftless Region of Southwest Wisconsin, which was able to preserve its unique prehistoric bluffs, coulees, and winding waters. These pristine rivers and streams contain the delicate ecosystem that allows the brook, brown, and tiger trout to thrive. Under the surfaces of these waters, the life cycle of the trout continue to unfold as they search for only the coldest and cleanest water, turn vibrant colors during spawning, and lay eggs in the stream gravel. Join filmmakers as they spend a year in the field documenting rarely seen trout behavior. From birth to death, this film is an unparalleled trout’s-eye view of a world few people have ever seen.

“The Great Lakes: Interrupted Evolution” is a documentary about the history of destruction and preservation of the Great Lakes. Protozoan Productions takes you on a journey of discovery and wonder as we detail the formation and evolution of these amazing bodies of water. Scientists, conservationists, and biologists, as well as residents of the land surrounding the lakes, discuss the future of the Great Lakes while voicing unanimously their concern that it may be too late to save them. This compelling film will document the dangers and uncertainties of commandeering this natural resource and stress the importance of properly managing nature’s greatest gift.

Nothing epitomizes the Great Plains like the American Bison. Although images of bison have appeared on our flags, coins and logos for years they were once hunted to near extinction in the 1870’s. Prior to the 1800’s tens of millions of bison roamed the Plains. Now only small herds exist scattered across public and private lands in North America. Please join us as we examine the breeding behavior of the iconic American Bison.
