October 12 — Honor the martyrs of the Czech (and Slovak) Spring when you hear Karel Husa’s “Music for Prague 1968″

For some today, “1968″ inspires images of tanks rolling into Prague to crush the effort to create “socialism with a human face.” Listening to the tragedy from his home in the US, Karel Husa wrote a remarkably hopeful work of remembrance and resistance. In 1969 the Butler Wind Ensemble was just the third group to perform the work. Four decades later they come back to it.
