301 redirects forwarding the http:// to the http://www is a good idea with any site, but they can be especially important with proxies. This will forward the non-www (http://proxystash.org) version of your site to the www version (http://www.proxystash.org).

Whether you are building your proxy with long-term goals or with the plan of selling in a few months, this redirection will help you do several things:

* Remove the issue of duplicate pages, as both pages will be exactly the same
* Spread the power of all that ‘link love’ to one place
* Pass PR more easily

So, how do you do it?

All you need to do is construct a simple .htaccess file with this code in your webhosting filemanager, or add this code to your existing .htaccess:

Remember to change domain.com with your actual domain like this

Save the file as .htaccess and upload the file to your site’s root. That’s it, you’re done!

Submitting to web directories is one way to gain back links and visitors. If you can find proxy-specific directories, this is even better. You will also want to get your website on proxy listings. Some of my favorite sites are Proxy.org, Sweet Proxies and Proxies Today are all great sites to get listed on. They should bring you visitors and get you some back links.

Adding a link to your forum signature is another good way to get some extra, free traffic. You should also, always optimize your proxy site. This means properly adding meta tags, descriptions and writing copy that includes relative keywords. Don’t forget about social networking sites. There are bound to be many people who are interested in using proxies and/or are looking for new ones. This is because some proxies get blocked by various websites. These are few great tips on how to promote proxies.

Summary of ways to promote your web proxy :

- Proxy Lists – which is one of the best way of getting free traffic to your proxies

- Forum signatures – putting your proxy in your signature link will bring you some good traffic, and it will give you good amount of traffic if its related to teens

- Link/banner Ads on related sites – of course a good way of traffic to your proxies but always go for sites which are niche related like proxy sites, entertainment sites like arcade and others which is teen related

- Social networking sites – a good way of getting quality traffic, nowadays its mostly used by webmasters

- Google Adwords or other such PPC networks – I’ve never tried this as its abit time consuming and will require some money which I really hate to pay when I can get something for free

- Web or proxy directories - something free which will give you traffic and a quality backlink as well

- Article directories - I’ve done article submissions for my other sites which is a good way of getting traffic and backlink but never tried for proxies, but I think it will give some traffic

- Yahoo and google groups – the best and my favorite way of getting traffic, as nowadays everyone subscribes for proxy newsletters so submitting your proxies will give a huge amount of traffic to your proxies.

When attempting to optimize your proxy site for the search engines it is important that you use basic and google, search engine optimization techniques. This means that you need to make sure that your title and your meta tags include the keywords that you are targeting. You also want to make sure that they are included in the ˑ tags. This is called On site Optimization. When you create copy for your proxy website, it probably won’t be very long or extensive, because essentially you are providing a service and you don’t want to make people read a lot of extra stuff. However, you do want to make sure that your keywords are inserted into the web copy.

Lastly, get links. Successful search engine optimization depends on incoming links. So you want to write articles, get links from social networking sites is very much easy and it gives your proxy huge amount of traffic as nowdays 60-70% members of social networking sites like myspace, facebook, bebo, orkut and others are teenagers who are proxy seekers so by promoting your sites in those sites you will get good traffic, you can also try social bookmarking sites like stumbleupon, del.icio.us, and other sites also gives you a good amount of traffic.

You participate in some three-way link exchanges, add your proxy sites to directories and on popular proxy listing sites. This will ensure not only that you get traffic, but also that you build up those incoming links so you can see your site progress in the search engines. Remember, search engine optimization efforts must be consistent. You can’t only do these things one-time. You have to do this continually because you will be competing against other webmasters who are looking to rocket their proxy sites up the search engines as well.

Today I just launched the free proxy list section of my Proxy Blog, where you will find latest, fresh and unblocked proxy sites. Glype script requires PHP 5 (or greater) with cURL enabled to run it in a server, the most important thing in glype that I like is the built in template system, you don′t have to ulpoad the whole script with template in your server like you do for phproxy, zelune and others. While in glype you just upload the template of yours and select it from the admin area.
You can control the whole site from the admin area, changing your site configurations, adding or removing advertisements, so its too much easier to run the site.

According to me this script is one of the best proxy scripts available, as it has everything so makes it lot easier for anyone to run a proxy site.  But still I’m using PHProxy in my proxies :D
