The Perfect Points of Entrance

The Author has often wondered at parts of our ritual which have no ready explanation, nor any forthcoming, and which are routinely committed to memory and recited when called upon to do so. One such is "The Perfect Points of Entrance" that demonstrate proof of being a Freemason. So he decided to explore how and when this was included in the ritual.
A paper by Bro. Prof. Dr. U. Gauthamadas, Grand Lodge of India.

In the second half of the 20th Century disciplines like philosophy, sociology, law, psychology and political science have included Freemasonry in their areas of research. Although this happened in distinct aspects, it has become a field of attraction in many universities where research centers have been established to inspect this discipline all over the world. Consequently, the term “Masonology” has been proposed with a meaning of “researching Masonic history by scientific methods”, today, it has turned into “researching Masonry, with all its aspects, by scientific methods”. The purpose here is not to prove that Freemasonry is a science but the concept of Freemasonry is being inspected by many Mason or non-Mason scholars using scientific methods.
MW Bro M. Remzi Sanver, Grand Master of the Masons of Turkey

Freemasons in China: the Portuguese link

This paper advances a new light on the arrival of Freemasonry to China. Normally that event is explained by the arrival of the British to the Chinese East Coast and by the outcome of the two Opium Wars. The author explores an alternative path of the Masonic entrance in China by looking to Macau and to the documented arrival of a ship of the Swedish Company of Eastern India Islands transporting Freemasons with a charter, given by the Grand Royal Lodge of Sweden to held Masonic meetings in any port they board.
A paper by W Bro A.M.A. Gonçalves 30°, Luz do Oriente #80 Lodge, Grand Legal Lodge of Portugal.

The history of the evolution of our Craft supports my argument that many of the Biblical passages in the ritual actually dates from the time around the Enlightenment period to suggest in a subtle way the need to intellectually break free from the stranglehold the Church has on the mind of the time, thus freeing the minds and brought about the flourishing of science and technology that we see today.
Are Freemasonry and Islam compatible? A paper by W.Bro. Shaikh Hatim Fidahussein Nakhoda PM, Research Lodge St. Michael No. 2933, Singapore, District Grand Lodge of the Eastern Archipelego, UGLE.
....Islam has been much in the limelight these days. I have been diligent in attending to my duties as both, a Mason and a Muslim and have come to realise that Islam and Masonry are indeed compatible. Freemasonry may even be considered complementary to Islam as its principles only go to reinforce a Muslim brother’s own faith; contrary to the misconceptions widely held among my Muslim brethren from various sects. The distrust perhaps arises from the fact that masonic symbols are derived from segments of the Old Testament such as the Temple of King Solomon, which gives the uninstructed world the erroneous impression that masons are Zionists...

This paper supports that esotericism is a legitimate element of the Freemasonry and exists by design, and that Freemasonry is the inheritor of a great wealth of secret knowledge which has been encoded in our rituals, symbols, and traditions. It argues that many Blue Lodges are not equipped to Mentor the new Mason who expresses esoteric interests in the Craft. This paper also presents a description of what constitutes Esoteric Masonic practice, identifies reading materials (a topical list) for esoteric study, and provides a suggested curriculum (linked to the topical reading lists)which provides the new Esoteric Mason with a thorough course of study.

The title of this paper does not imply that mysticism is confined in Freemasonry to the Royal Arch alone, and that there is none in the Craft degrees. On the contrary, as the First Principal informs the newly exalted Royal Arch candidate, the degree he has just taken is but a completion of the Third degree in Craft Masonry, thus inferring that the Royal Arch is an integral part of Craft Masonry and, therefore, the conclusion of the latter’s mystical teaching.

The Development of the Craft in England in the Last Century

by R.W.Bro. Yasha Beresiner, PM Quatuor Coronati Lodge #2076 EC. A review of Freemasonry in England in the last century is a subject for an entire book. The only logical method to present this brief review is to select some dates of importance in the past 110 years, emphasizing the significance and consequence of the historic events as they occurred in a chronologic sequence.

On the Foundations and Legacy of Quatuor Coronati Lodge of Research

by Bro. Bob James, Discovery Lodge of Research, UGL of NSW & ACT, Australia. The essay explores in detail the context in which Lodge No 2076, Quatuor Coronati, UGLE, was founded and its legacy after 100 plus years as the Premier Lodge of Research. What QC has done, more than any other organisation in the English-speaking Masonic world, is to create an expectation that Masonic research can be, and ought to be conducted with the strictest rules of evidence in mind, but the author argues that this assertion was not always true in the past.

Just released by UGLE: The Future of Freemasonry. Read Report

The United Grand Lodge of England has released a report concerning the state of Freemasonry and its future in England. The Future of Freemasonry report is the first ever independent study conducted by a non-Masonic body. Produced by the highly respected Social Issues Research Centre (SIRC), an independent, non-profit organisation based in Oxford, which conducts research on social and lifestyle issues, socio-cultural trends and provides insight into human behaviour and social relations, the report suggests that, contrary to some misleading commentary, Freemasonry actually demonstrates genuine openness and transparency and it concludes that it is arguably more relevant today than ever before.

An exploration of Moral Virtues as applicable to Freemasonry

by Bro. Prof. Dr. U. Gauthamadas, Lodge Prudentia No.369, Grand Lodge of India. A Freemason is informed, during his initiation, that the practices of moral and social virtue are the foundations of Freemasonry that distinguish it from other institutions. However, the terms ?moral? and ?virtue? are used rather loosely today. This paper explores also the concept of moral virtue in Greek, Roman, Christian, Islamic, Vedic, and Buddhist Literature.
