This is a good News for all Final Fantasy fans, because SCE Japan has just announced a new bundle scheduled for April containing both a 160GB PS3 “Cloud Dark” and the Blu-ray movie (OVA) Final Fantasy VII Advent Children.

As for the special edition Final Fantasy Advent Children PS3, it'll be the first 160GB PS3 released in Japan and the "Cloud Black" color is a silvery matte black, different from the standard Piano Black. It'll cost 49,980 yen (about $550 USD) and will come with Advent Children and the FFXIII demo.

Sony PS3 Costs Less To Make, But Still A Money Loser

Sony's new-generation PlayStation 3 costs less to make than the previous version, but the video-game console is still a money loser for the financially troubled consumer electronics giant, a market research firm's study showed.

A teardown analysis by iSuppli found that the latest PS3 costs $448.73 to make, or 35% less than the $690.23 for the first-generation model. The totals do not include software, box contents, and royalty expenses.

With the PS3 selling in the United States for around $399, Sony is still losing money on each console sold, albeit far less than before. "With its new-generation PS3, Sony has come closer to breaking even, although it probably hasn't quite reached that mark yet," iSuppli analyst Andrew Rassweiler said in a statement released Monday.

With additional hardware changes, iSuppli said Sony may be able to reach breakeven in 2009, about three years after the PS3's release.

Nevertheless, the savings in manufacturing cost is unlikely to help PS3 sales, which have lagged those of the Nintendo Wii and Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) Xbox 360. Analysts say the PS3's higher price has been a major reason for its lackluster market performance during the economic recession, but with Sony facing serious financial troubles, it's unlikely the company can afford to drop the console's price further.

Adding to Sony's troubles was a particularly poor performance of the PS3 during the holiday shopping season. Early results show that U.S. sales dropped 19% in November from a year ago, while sales doubled for the Wii and rose 8% for the Xbox 360, according to The Wall Street Journal. In the meantime, poor sales of televisions and digital cameras have forced Sony to lay off thousands of workers and close factories.

ISuppli found that Sony was able to cut manufacturing costs with the new-generation PS3 by changing and integrating some key components. The latest model contains about 2,820 individual parts, compared with 4,048 in the previous generation.

Among the major changes in componentry is a new version of IBM (NYSE: IBM)'s Cell Broadband engine, which serves as the console's central processing unit. The new technology costs $46.46, down nearly 28% from the original component. In addition, the new version of Nvidia's Reality Synthesizer, which acts as the graphic processing unit for the PS3, costs more than 30% less, or $58.01, iSuppli said.

Here's 5 PS3 tips and Tricks part2

1. Playstation store on PC

Sometimes it's simply not convenient to download items on the PS3 particularly when downloads might be interrupted by an online gaming session or video chat.

These days, though, the PlayStation store is available on your PC or Mac and you're likely to find the interface and thumbnails load more quickly on your PC as well.

You sign in using your existing PSN account and can copy downloaded items using removable storage such as a USB drive or an SD card to transfer to your console.

2. Turn your PS3 into a PC

It's actually quite easy to turn your PS3 into a fully fledged PC, which is great for adding media and productivity flexibility to the piano black box beneath your TV. If you dig into the Settings, then System Settings menu you'll find an option to Install Other OS.

You'll need to back up the data that's currently stored on your PS3 hard drive to a USB device, but then by following some simple instructions you can download a copy of the operating system, burn it to a CD or DVD and then install it to your console's hard drive.

3. Access instant messaging

If you're a slave to Windows Live Messenger when you're online, but fancy browsing from the comfort of your sofa and television, Microsoft has a low profile version of Messenger available that is perfect for keeping in one of the PS3 browser's six available tabs as you trawl the web.

Simply head to http://mobile.live.com and select the Messenger option, then sign in as normal. Unfortunately, as yet there is no way to access Yahoo or AOL instant messaging networks via the PS3's browser.

4. Transfer classic PS1 games to PSP

You may have noticed that classic Playstation games such as Command and Conquer and Wipeout have begun appearing on the PS Store and that they can be saved to the PS3's hard drive. What you might not be aware of is that, if you have a large enough Memory Stick Pro Duo in your handheld, your purchase also gives you the right to transfer the game to a PSP registered with your PS3.

This means you can genuinely play the game either at home or away without needing internet access for Remote Play. Simply find the PS1 game in the game column of the XMB and press Triangle. You'll see the option to Copy, simply click it, connect your PSP via USB, then follow the on screen instructions.

5. Use PC peripherals

Browsing the internet on a console can be a drag, particularly if you're lumped with using a control pad and the onscreen keyboard to fill in online forms or hammer out emails.

Fortunately, the PS3 actually supports standard keyboards and mice, which work brilliantly with the PS3's in-built browser and even some games, such as Unreal Tournament 3. Sony's system will even allow you to pair up Bluetooth keyboards and mice.

If you have wired devices simply plug them into the PS3's USB ports (or a USB hub connected to the PS3 if you're short on free ports). If you're using Bluetooth peripherals head to the Settings column, then select Accessory Settings and then Manage Bluetooth Devices and follow the onscreen instructions to pair the keyboard and mouse to your console.

5 PS3 tips and Tricks part1:

1. Save files from the web

Copying videos, music and photos isn't the only way to save media permanently to your console – you can also save files directly from the web. See a link to an MP3 you fancy? Simply click on the link with the X button and the PS3 will automatically offer to save it directly into your Music folder, ready to be played at any time.

It's the same story with videos – so long as the PS3 recognises the format, such as AVI or MP4 it will give you the option to save it directly to the video folder. For images, hover the pointer over a picture, press the Triangle button and select File, then Save Image and you'll have the option to save out to the photo folder.

2. Visualisations

One of the PS3's most impressive in-built features is missed by many people. The Gaia visualisation is an option when playing music, and is a high definition 3D representation of the Earth, based on NASA's stunning Blue Marble photography.

Simply hit the Square button while playing an MP3 or CD to flick through the various visualisations on offer. Be advised that Gaia is best suited to dreamy ambient tunes rather than pumping dance or heavy rock.

3. Turn DVDs into HD

Another fact that many PS3 owners miss is that their sleek black console is actually one of the finest DVD players on the market. In this era of high definition content, DVDs can look awful when they're splashed across a large LCD or plasma screen, but the PS3 has the processing grunt to polish them up to near HD quality.

While watching a DVD through an HD display, press the Triangle button and choose the AV Settings button, you will then see options for frame, block and mosquito noise reduction, and also an option to perform a full upscale on DVD content.

Video saved to storage can also be run with frame and block noise reduction by tweaking the same menu options.

4. Set up a media server

If you have a computer loaded up with music, photos and video, but don't fancy holding duplicates on a PS3 hard drive that will take up valuable space for game installs, there's a solution. Set up media streaming across your network.

What you need on your computer is software that has DNLA server capabilities such as Windows Media Player 11 or Tversity (www.tversity.com). On your computer, set the software up to share the music, video and photo folders, then on the PS3, select the Search for Media Servers option under any of the Photo, Music or Video columns on the XMB.

You should see a new option on your XMB any time your computer is switched on, which acts as the gateway to streaming your media.

5. Use other webcams

You may assume that the only webcam compatible with the PS3's video chatting capabilities is Sony's Playstation Eye. In fact, most standard PC/Mac webcams are supported, and many camera enabled games, such as Rainbow Six Vegas 2, offer similar levels of compatibility.

You can even use the Xbox Live Vision camera from Microsoft's rival Xbox 360 console if you're feeling particularly rebellious, and if your chosen camera has a microphone, that'll appear as a voice input device for chatting as well.

booting up new HDD in PS3

Playstation 3 can accept a new 2.5 laptop drive by simply removing a cover on the bottom of the unit and then unscrewing one screw to remove the old drive. It is as simple as that. PLEASE BE AWARE THE 2.5 INCH DRIVE MUST BE A SATA UNIT.

This means for those of you stuck on the 40 or 60gb unit, you can quite easily upgrade to a 120-160gb (or even larger) for a small cost For example a Samsung Spinpoint drive in the UK is currently around 35 pounds (I picked one up from Tekheads). This means you can basically quadruple your storage for under £40.

Anyway, the issue I initially mentioned is due to the newest Playstation 3 firmwares being too large to fit on the internal flash memory. This means when you remove the old drive you are actually removing some of the data the system would need to reformat the new drive.

There is a simple workaround for this and ill explain it in a step by step:

1: plug in a FAT32 formatted USB hard drive and use the PS3 built in system backup to copy all your saved game data etc to external HD (manually copy any movies or mp3s yourself, this is not included in the PS3 backup, you may also lose any downloads from store, however you can redownload them easily if you log in, just relog into store and check your download section, they are all tied to your account for a maximum of 5 downloads on 5 machines).

If you have a large USB2 drive (over 32gb) and are annoyed that windows will not format it, then follow this PDF guide (http://www.driverheaven.net/zardon/fat32forps3.pdf) This lets you format any sized drive to fat32 for access by PS3!

2: once you have backed up your old 40-60-80gb HD, unclip the bottom flap and unscrew the drive mounting tray.

3: remove old drive with 4 tray mounting screws

4: insert new 2.5 inch hard drive (do not turn on yet, read step 5)

5: older PS3 firmwares (prior to 2.36 did not need this step).

Download the new firmware data on your PC from this (http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Ab...html#update_PC) at time of writing this it is 2.41, but if you access this thread after Jun 2008 it may/will be newer) PlayStation.com

Copy the PS3UPDAT.PUP to a fat32 formatted flash drive or external mass storage drive - create a folder named PS3 on the storage media or USB device. Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE" copy the data file from the playstation site into this folder

so PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

6: plug in this drive to one of the PS3 USB ports. plug in a PS3 controller with the USB lead.

7: make sure new internal hard drive is secured (don't force too hard, it should slide in easily, not much force is needed). reseal the unit, put in HDMI or video lead and power lead.

8: turn unit on. follow format instructions and let the unit get the PUP firmware update data from external USB drive/flash card

9: once you set up with new HD, plug in the backup data drive from step 1 and reinstall all your settings and saved game data.

thats it! (or install ubuntu as well on new large drive).

Hope this helps some people who are finding old guides and they are not detailing the additional steps for the newest and larger PS3 firmwares.

Finally after months of speculation the new Playstation 3 80gb console arrives in the U.K and this is looking like a huge hit for this Christmas!.

The 80gb ps3 will be taking over from the 40GB version which will be discontinued after all stocks are gone...The PS3 40GB had some bad press as it lost its backward capability but this has now changed.

The new Playstation 3 80GB version is so much better!! The new chip is more advanced, quieter and stays much cooler. The difference this makes is huge, you don't get distracted by the noise, you wont have any problems with overheating and you will get better performance.

One thing that amazes me every time is the fact that even if all you wanted was a blu ray player, this unit would be cheaper than half the other options on the market!! On top of that you have 2 usb ports, internet capability, the best games console on the market, you can also use it as an external hard drive for music and photos!!

Also with the new PS3 80GB console you get free the new duel shock 3 controller that really is excellent and gives you so much more responce.

The game choice is slightly limited at the moment, there are many games but I don't believe the full potential of the console has really been tapped yet but I'm sure this will be rectified over the next couple of years.
