To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:

Grunge Brush (Pick one set from the list)

Splatter Brush (Pick one set from the list)

Step 1

Create a new document with 1200px * 600px with a light grey background. Use a soft white brush to paint a spot light in the centre:

Create a new layer and use the grunge brush you download, paint some texture over the light, and scele it download to form a support ground:

Step 2

Use any font you like, type some texts over the document:

Right-click and convert this layer to a “Smart Object”:

Skew the text layer as shown below:

And here is the effect so far:

Step 3

Use the grunge brush you downloaded as an eraser:

Apply the following opacity and flow settings to this eraser:

Add a layer mask to the text layer, apply some grunge eraser effect over it:

Go over the text, and this is the desired effect you should be aiming to achieve:

Step 4

Now we can add the hair lines onto the image. Grab the Pen Tool and draw a path as show below:

Use the following brush to stroke this path, make sure you tick the “Simulate Brush” setting when stroking:

After the stroke, duplicate this layer several times and group each line layer together, use the free transform tool to distort, scale them until they form the following hair-like effect:

Continue to add more lines to the text:

Use the splatter brush you downloaded, add some splash effect to the text:

Step 5

We want to spice up the text a little more – so grab a 3px 60% hardness brush as shown below:

Paint some random lines around the text, as shown below:

We can also add some particle effects around the canvas with a particle brush:

and here is the effect so far:

Step 6

OK we’re almost done! For some final touches, I simply flattened the image and duplicated the background layer, then applied the “Patchwork” filter as shown below to the duplicated layer:

And this is the effect you will have:

We want to mask out the majority of this layer, just leave the lower half of the text visible, as shown below:

Then add some colours to the image with the following adjustment layers:

Selective Color

Layer mask on the selective colour layer:

Curves

To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:

Cloud Brush

Model

Ground

Fire

Rock

Step 1

Create a new document sized 1400px * 740px with black background. Create a new layer and use a big soft brush, paint a white circle in the centre of the canvas as shown below:

Select the eraser tool, pick a cloud brush from the pack you downloaded and use it as an eraser:

Eraser the centre portion of the white dot with this eraser tool:

Use the free transform tool to adjust the shape of the cloud – expand, distort and rotate it as you see fit:

Optionally, we can use a particle brush to paint some dusts around the cloud, this is totally up to you:

Step 2

We will now work on adding a ground for our image. Load the ground texture into Photoshop and select the ground portion of the image with quick selection tool:

Copy and paste the selection over to our document. Resize it to fit our canvas width and use a soft eraser tool to remove some parts of the ground to add some irregular lighting effect:

Add the following 3 adjustment layers as clipping mask to this ground layer:

Black and White

Levels

Curves

and this is the effect you will have so far for the ground layer:

Step 3

It’s time to add our warrior in. Load the model image into Photoshop and cut out the model, paste it onto our document. Resize and position it to the centre of ground as shown below:

Add a layer mask to this model layer, and use a soft eraser with 40% flow and opacity setting, fade the feet area of the model a little so it blends into the ground:

Sharpen the model layer with a unsharp mask filter as shown below:

Add the following 3 adjustment layers as clipping mask to this model layer:

Black and White

Apply the following layer mask on the black and white adjustment layer:

Levels

Curves

Create a new layer over all the previous layer and set its blending mode to “overlay”, paint a white dot to the area shown below to add some shining light to the axe:

and here is the effect so far:

Step 4

We will add the fire into the image now. Load the fire image into Photoshop and select the following portion:

Copy and paste the selection over to our image, resize it and put it over the arm, set its blending mode to “Overlay”:

Then repeat this above process, copy and paste more fire texture over to the left shoulder as well:

Go on and add more fire pattern to the model, remember to set the layer blending mode to “screen” for the rest of the fire texture layers:

To spice up the effect, we can use a golden, 1 px hard brush, paint some fiery lines around the model, use eraser tool to fade the lines as you go:

Step 5

We will add some floating mountain in. It’s really simple to create a simple floating mountain, all you need is the right stock image as a starting point

Let’s load the rock stock image you downloaded, and use the quick selection tool to select a rough piece as shown below:

Copy and paste the selection over to our canvas, resize and rotate it as shown below:

Use a soft eraser tool, fade the edges until it forms the following triangular shape:

Use the burn tool with 50% exposure, darken the lower portion of the floating mountain as shown below:

Then duplicate this mountain layer once, reduce the size and move it up to to the position shown below:

Step 6

We will add some flying particles with a small dot brush, or a particle brush size with golden/red colour:

Then apply the following Liquify Filter setting to this particle layer:

As you can see, by doing so we add some flying effect to those still particles, as shown below:

Step 7

We’re almost done! For some final retouches, I flattened the image and duplicated the background layer, applied the following Radial Blur settings:

Add the following layer mask to this radial blur layer, this way only the blur part of the cloud around the model is revealed:

We can also use the Smudge Tool to manipulate the fire:

Warp the fire as shown below:

To complete this tutorial, you will need the following stocks:

Paper Texture

Watercolor Brush

Step 1

Create a new document with the default white background with the size of 1275px in width, and 610 in height. Load the Page Texture image into Photoshop and select a portion of the paper texture, copy and paste it onto our document:

Use a soft eraser to fade the edges of the page as shown below:

Add the following 2 adjustment layers on top of this paper texture:

Hue/Saturation

Levels

And here is the effect so far:

Step 2

We will add the letters onto our document. Use any font you like and type some texts:

Duplicate this text layer once, and hide the original text layer, then right-click on the duplicated layer and choose “Rasterize Type/Layer”:

Then grab the liquify tool (Filter > Liquify), use the the following settings:

Manipulation the text until they form the following shape:

We will add some drawing patterns over the black texts – I use the following brush settings:

We will use the brush above to paint some white and blue dashes over the text, as shown below:

Step 3

We will add some extra effect for our text – We can add a bit of shadow for the text by duplicating our rasterized text layer, then compress it down with the free transform tool:

Optional: we can also add some particles around the text with a particle brushset:

Use the watercolor brush we downloaded, paint some watercolor pattern around the text, as well as behind the text (set a smaller brush size):

Step 4

We’re almost done! For final touches, I added the following Selective Color adjustment over all the previous layers:

White

Blacks

Optional Step (CS6 only): flatten the image, and duplicate the background layer, and apply the following Oil Paint filter (Filter > Oil Paint):

Use a soft eraser to remove the following parts for the oil paint layer:

The concept behind this work is that a dragon die centuries ago, and the body become part of the mountain. The time has come for the dragon to be resurrected by a unknown dark force.

Step 1

Create a new document with a dark grey background, document size 1280px * 800px. Load the “Mountain 1″ image into Photoshop and select the sky and mountain part of the image:

Copy and paste the selection onto our document, resize it as shown below:

Add a layer mask to this mountain layer, use a soft eraser to fade the following red area of on the mountain layer:

Add the following adjustment layers on top of this mountain layer:

Black and White

Levels

and here is the effect so far:

Step 2

Let’s add the dragon in. Load the Dragon stock into Photoshop and select the head and neck part as shown below:

Copy and paste the selection into Photoshop and resize it, use a soft eraser to blend the neck with the mountain:

Add the following adjustment layers as clipping mask to this dragon layer:

Black and White

Levels

On the levels adjustment’s layer mask, use the following brush as eraser, remove the red portion as shown below:

This will give the dragon an ancient, decaying effect.

Step 3

We will add some rock texture onto the dragon. Load the “Mountain 2″ image into Photoshop. Select a portion of the texture as shown below:

Copy and paste the selection over to our document, set the layer as clipping mask and change the blending mode to “Overlay”, you will have the following effect:

Hint: Optionally, you can use the Black and White adjustment layer on this rock texture layer to adjust the colour tone.

We will add some flying rock around the dragon. Load the Rock image into Photoshop and select a portion as shown below with Lasso Tool:

Copy and paste the selection over and make a few duplications, resize and scatter them around the dragon’s header:

Step 4

I decided to add some meteor shower effect into the image. Let’s select one piece of rock from the Rock image:

Copy and paste it over to our document. Then create a new layer and paint a orange dot as shown below with a soft brush:

Paint a smaller with dot in the centre of the orange dot:

Use the free transform tool to distort the image as shown below:

Put those layers into a layer group, duplicate this layer group a few times and

I slightly adjust the colour with a color balance adjustment layer, and here is my final effect: (click to enlarge)
