MMORPG Fans of the Popular EverQuest and EverQuest II Series Get a Treat from Sony!

At the latest Sony Online Entertainment Fan Faire 2009 held in Las Vegas this past Friday, fans recieved an exciting announcement of two expansions for the hugely popular EverQuest and EverQuest II MMORPGs.

The details on the MMORPG expansion are few and far between at the moment, but Sony did announce that EverQuest: Underfoot would be the 16th official expansion for the original EverQuest MMORPG. The Underfoot expansion would introduce a new underground dungeon for players when it launches later this year.

In addition EverQuest II will also be getting an expansion called Sentinel’s Fate thatis expected to release in 2010. This new expansion will increase the current level cap to 90 and will introduce an achievement system to the game.

“Sentinel’s Fate will allow you to play older, low-level content with a high-level character and still gain experience. SOE is also integrating various achievements into the game, such as killing 10,000 orcs or reaching level 80 with multiple characters.”

It is hard to believe how long EverQuest has been around, and even more impressive that the development team is still creating new and exciting content for this beloved MMORPG. Fans of the series will have a lot to look forward to in the coming year with these latest announcements from Sony.

New MMORPG Information on Aion The Tower of Eternity

Fans of NCSoft popular MMORPG titles got an exciting treat this weekend when Aion: The Tower of Eternity launched its second Beta preview event.

Initial glimpses of the game revealed an in-depth character creation system that allows players to customize their character down to their physical build, and spacing of facial features.

There are two main races in Aion known as the Asmodians and Elyos. They follow your typical dark vs. light concepts found in many MMORPGs.

From these two races that are a total eight classes to choose from in the game which include warriors, scouts, mages and priests. These classes are then varied by specialized classes which become available to players at higher levels.

Aion has everything you have come to expect from your typical MMORPG including a leveling / skill system, quests and grinding, a detailed and beautiful game world filled with exotic creatures and lore, and much more!

With all the work that has gone into this game it will be interesting to see the finished product when Aion The Tower of Eternity is finally released in stores.

SilkRoad Expansion Legend IV Plus Announced by Joymax

Fans of the popukar F2P MMORPG SilkRoad Online got some exciting news today from Joymax with the announcement of a new expansion for the game called Legend IV Plus.

The expansion is slated for this July to coincide with the Jewel Box event, Legend IV Plus will feature new areas including Roc Mountain, and a completely new dungeon for players level 80+.

Players who can survive the perils of Roc Mountain and make their way to the top will have to face Ancient King of the Rocs a giant bird that towers in the air. Players set on taking down this massive new monster should be prepared for the battle of their lives, but many times the rewards can outweigh the risks!

Details Emerge of a new MMORPG version of Neverwinter Nights

Last week there was an interesting blurb Gamespy about rumors regarding the a new MMORPG from Cryptic Studios based on the extremely successful Neverwinter Nights role playing game.

Cryptic is also currently involved in projects for two other MMORPGs that due out next year, Champions Online and Star Trek Online.

Sources state the primary reason for Atari’s purchase of Cryptic may have been for these projects, with a heavy focus on the Neverwinter Nights MMORPG.

Based on the limited details it sounds as though we will be looking at a 2011 release on this latest MMORPG, and time will tell if this could make or break things for Atari.

Heroes Hiro, Set to Produce an MMORPG Film Inspired by WoW

Masi Oka who plays Hiro on the hit television series Heroes is getting set to produce his own movie.

Reports indicate that the Transformers writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci are in the process of creating a new family adventure movie called The Defenders which was inspired by an idea from Oka.

The script is being written by Gary White and D.J. Caruso director of the film Suburbia may be directing the project.

Rumor has it that Masi Oka came up with the idea for the film while playing World of Warcraft. It sounds as though his real life personality may not be that much different from his on screen persona as Hiro, with the exception of being able to bend space and time.

The Defenders will be about a group of teenagers playing a MMORPG who are forced together through real life events for an adventure that goes far beyond a mouse and keyboard.

As of now there is no confirmation that Masi Oka will be in the movie, but he is slated to be executive producer on the project.

Fans of the popular Final Fantasy series were in for a treat this week when Square announced their latest MMORPG at this years Electronic Entertainment Expo, along with screenshots and a brand new trailer.

News of the new Final Fantasy XIV MMORPG was well received by fans who have already enjoyed the popular Final Fantasy XI online role playing game.

While information was limited, we were told several things about the upcoming title. The game is scheduled to release on the PS3 and PC in 2010. Final Fantasy XIV will take place in a new world that focuses on Final Fantasy’s “fantasy” roots and medieval atmosphere as opposed to the futuristic feel some of the newer titles have had.

The game has been designed based on feedback Square has received from the Final Fantasy XI MMORPG and will strive to make itself more accessible for casual gamers as well as hardcore fans. This means the game will have content that is geared towards the player who does not have the time or energy to group for quests and dungeons.

This approach is sure to make the title more appealing for everyone regardless of their level of skill or commitment.

With limited details surrounding the announcement and the level of excitement from fans, Final Fantasy XIV is sure to be another great addition to the MMORPG market.

Free to Play MMORPG Chronicles of Spellborn Offers New Content

A new patch is available for the Free-to-Play MMORPG Chronicles of Spellborn that will add many new perks to the F2P online role playing game.

Acclaim announced the new patch will add additional features to the free to play areas of the game offering new content, abilities, quest and faction for F2P users.

In addition to more quests there is also the inclusion of a Demon Chest which offers players the ability to quest for faction in order to obtain keys to open the Demon Chest. Once opened, the chest will reveal unusual treasures and rewards for players who are able to access its secrets.

New Free-to-Play MMORPGs from the Creators of Perfect World

Perfect World Entertainment announced Tuesday their new line-up of free to play MMORPGs set to debut June 2-4 at E3 2009 in Los Angeles.
