May is National Bike Month, created as a unique opportunity to celebrate the power of the bicycle and the many reasons we ride them. If you love riding your bike, there’s a good chance you’ve adorned it with a few stickers. Bicycle stickers add a measure of personality to your ride. The equivalent of a car bumper sticker, they can be meaningful or humorous, or just plain fun. And some bike stickers, including the examples below, are crafted by talented designers to add style and character to your two-wheeled machine. Here are 10 of the coolest bike sticker designs I’ve found, shared here for your inspiration.

1.  Skull bicycle stickers

These clever reflective stickers feature a skull outline, with the eye socket and nose details shaped by a bicycle silhouette.

2.  Bicycle evolution stickers

We’ve seen the evolution of man progression design before, but apparently all before this example stopped short of the culmination of evolution’s triumph.

3.  1950s bike decals

These stickers are from the 1950s, but I would, without hesitation, place them on my Schwinn today. The Silver Rocket? You better believe it.

4.  Root Street sticker

This bike frame decal from Root Street is packed with attitude and bicyclist pride. The Hell’s Angels of the cycling world?

5.  Sit on your butt sticker

Another clever sticker, it encourages you to “sit on your butt and do something.” One of the best things about cycling is that it can be as casual or competitive as you’d like.

6.  Polka dots and stripes sticker set

I love this vintage sticker set, meant for a beach cruiser style bicycle (which is precisely what I intend to ride in retirement – if not before!).

7.  Bike Pittsburgh sticker set

This set of unique bicycle stickers was designed for a Bike Pittsburgh campaign.

8.  Fun bicycle sticker

It’s not the quickest or the easiest way to get between two points, but it’s the “funnest”!

9.  Reflective bicycle decals

Attractive and useful, I love these geometric bicycle stickers because you can customize your own design.

10.  MacGyver style sticker

MacGyver could turn anything into a bomb, including a bicycle, which is what I thought was the original inspiration for these stickers. However, these stickers were printed by a band, and even caused a stir as bomb squads were called to investigate (follow the link to learn more).

When I was a kid, every trip to the doctor’s office inevitably resulted in at least one lengthy period in which I was alone in the examining room, surrounded by old-school medical infographic posters. By the time I took high school human biology, I was pretty much an expert on such pertinent topics as the makeup of the inner ear and the journey through the digestive tract. Fun stuff, certainly, and today’s infographics are even better. If you’ve ever been tasked with designing a medical infographic or poster, you know you have to visually convey a lot of potentially confusing information. All infographics are like that. But you also have to visually convey potentially embarrassing information with tact – and that can prove challenging.

What’s more, some of the topics are downright horrifying. Threats of pandemics (which most people read as “plague”) have to handled with care. On one hand, your job is to help inform the public of health threats; on the other hand, you don’t want to incite mass hysteria. Finding the perfect balance is a hallmark of great infographic designers, and as such I’ve spotlighted 10 excellent medical infographics here (follow the title links for larger versions).

1.  Outbreak

This infographic offers information about the deadliest outbreaks in human history. It was created by Good and Collum Five Media.

2.  Healthcare Associated Infections

Sometimes health care facilities are responsible for infections, as demonstrated by this infographic.

3.  The Truth Behind Diabetes

This infographic seeks to dispel common myths regarding diabetes.

4.  What About HIV?

HIV remains a threat to young people, as evidenced by the numbers depicted in this infographic.

5.  Malaria

If you’re going to keep yourself awake worrying about diseases, malaria should be near the top of your list – especially if you’re planning that rainforest expedition.

6.  Swine Flu

I like infographics that add a touch of humor, no matter how serious the subject matter. This one about swine flu is aptly titled “Piggy Trouble.”

7.  Heart Disease Epidemic

Most of us ignore the threat of heart disease until it’s too late, but this infographic details why we shouldn’t (follow the link for the full infographic).

8.  Disease Fatality Rates

Sometimes simplicity is the best way to visually portray data. This minimalist infographic does the job perfectly.

9.  Cholera

Most of us don’t worry about cholera, but it is a very clear and present danger for developing countries such as Haiti.

10.  Laughter, the Best Medicine

After all this gloom and doom, it’s good to have a laugh… in fact, it just might save your life.

A lively blog with an active community, Convince and Convert concerns itself with social media marketing, including design.
