Drumming is healing

All you need is a drum, your hands and a willingness to express your inner rhythm as you beat on the skins. It helps to let go of the mind and be in the moment as you breathe and relax.

Current research shows that drumming is healing for the following reasons: support for the immune system, speeds the rate of physical healing, reduces stress and anxiety, balances right and left hemispheres in the brain.

Drumming helps to release emotional trauma, calms the mind, increases the ability to focus, creates a feeling of well-being, relieves depression and aids in the grieving process.

Saying Good-Bye to My Brother

In October of 2006 my oldest brother died.  He had been ill for some time. In August of that same year I had hoped he would be well enough to walk me down the aisle, along with my two other brothers, at the wedding celebration for my husband and I.

Instead, the day before our celebration, I drove with my family to the VA hospital to say good-bye to my brother. Due to other health complications my brother had slipped into a coma and was getting ready to leave his body. It was a shocking turn of events and my heart was broken.

At our wedding celebration the next day, I felt great joy and intense pain. Soon I would be saying good-bye to my brother. His death, less than two months later, was devastating to me. We were very close. He was fifteen years older than I, like a father to me, and he was my hero.

Drum, Drum…nice and Steady

During my grieving process I needed an effective way to release the pain and grief of losing my brother. I was using several healing modalities that were helpful to me. The problem was that I couldn’t cry while I was at home around my family. I needed to grieve alone, but how?

Drumming called to me and my intention was to use it as a vehicle for my grieving process. So off I went to the park with my Egyptian drum and found a private spot near the lake. Drum, drum…nice and steady, letting go of my mind and breathing deeply.

Then no mind as the hands drummed on their own, channeling the beat from deep within me. Then the sound of my pain came out in a chant to my brother. The tears flowed freely as my hands kept the beat going, drum, drum…nice and steady. I felt the pain lifting and releasing. The experience of no mind was blissful as I was being carried by the divine beating through my hands onto the drum.

Drumming is Done from the Inside Out

Drumming is done from the inside out like a meditation. In order to get to the flow of drumming, we have to first let go of the ego.

Close your eyes as you bring your focus within you. Take three cleansing breaths.  Relax and continue to breathe. Feel the beat of your heart, thump, thump, thump. Let your heart be your guide as you beat each hand on the skins and feel that the drumming is done from the inside out.

Be aware of your thoughts. Consistently bring your focus back to the beat in the moment. Be in the process. It is not about the end result. Keep focusing on the beat.  All you have is this moment and your breath. Then drumming is done from the inside out. As in meditation you are set free from your rational mind. Your thoughts are the obstacles to being in the flow.

Keep bringing your focus back to the heart beat of the drumming. Let go and know that drumming is healing when you allow the Divine to express through you as you beat on the drum.

Be willing to forgive self.

The Oxford English dictionary defines forgiveness as such: “to grant free pardon and to give up all claim on account of an offense or debt.”

We usually associate forgiveness with our need to forgive others. It takes self awareness to see that we hold ourselves hostage when we resent self for something we did or did not do in the past. This calls for the act of forgiving self.

Forgiving self allows for a healthier relationship with ourself. When we forgive self we set ourselves free to live in the moment. We open ourselves up to experience inner peace and joy. As a result we feel more balanced in body, mind, emotion and spirit.

Willingness to Forgive

Be honest with yourself. Are you having a hard time forgiving yourself? The step before forgiveness is the willingness to forgive. This opens the door to the possibility of healing the injury.

Say it out loud as an affirmation: “I am willing to forgive myself ” Then hand it over to Goddess. Ask the Divine to help you to forgive yourself.

Once you hand the situation over to Spirit let go and allow healing to happen through you. Be aware of shifts in your perception. Are you willing to let go of limiting beliefs and thus allow healing?

The power of forgiving self is an act of self love that opens the doorway for us to receive inner peace and joy. We release ourself to be who we truly are – Divine beings of love and light.

In order to be fully present we need to use the process of grounding in the earth so that we are fully planted in Goddess Gaia. Then we are more balanced in our chakras, energy centers.

Grounding in the earth supports the marriage of our Divine self with our human self. It is not enough to be conscious of our spirit. Grounding helps us to be here now in our bodies. It is an important step before meditation.

Grounding Process

The grounding process begins by visualizing your feet like the roots of the tree going deep into Mother Earth and anchoring at the center of the earth. Drop a cord from the space between your two pelvic bones down into the center of the earth. Let go of what you are ready to release from within you down the cord into the Earth. At the same time bring up through the soles of your feet loving nurturing Goddess Gaia energy, up your legs to your pelvic area and then down the cord back into Mother Earth.

Next bring your awareness to your beautiful heart. Breathe into the heart space, allowing the heart to gently expand. The heart is the healer, the purifier. The heart needs no protection. It simply needs to be free to channel love unconditionally in every moment.

As you continue the grounding process go to center of your head, your sacred space, release other people’s energy from there, sending them down a water shoot. See yourself sitting upon your throne. Be creative. Make it your own. Is it made of roses, wood, tapestry or leather? Feel your own empowerment, your God, Goddess conscious energy. You are centered, wise, relaxed and at peace.

Go to the top of your head, the crown chakra. Reach way up and above to the cosmos, tapping into wonderful cosmic energy. Bring this powerful energy down through top of your head, down your back to the pelvic area, back up to your throat. See some energy going down your arms, and then up to the top of your head where it fountains out. Let these two energies continue to cycle within you where you let go of the old energies while opening to  new energy thus healing all the chakras.

To complete the grounding process visualize a large Sun above your head that is drawing back in all the parts of yourself that you have disowned.

Then crack the Sun open like an egg and pour your energy into the top of your head so that you are filled up with your own wonderful essence. Do this grounding process daily and feel more empowered and healed from within.

We are Divine beings of love and light living on planet earth. Grounding in the earth supports the balance of our divinity with our humanity. This harmony allows us to continue to grow and express the beauty of our God/Goddess self in the material plane in union with Goddess Gaia, our Mother Earth. And so it is.

Intuitive Readings

Affirmations are positive statements of truth. It is a powerful jewel (tool) for self discovery. We create through our thinking. When we focus on positive thoughts we feed our conscious mind and co-create what we are intending in our life.

We already know what we do not want in our lives. It is important to not focus on what we do not want to create. Using affirmations daily are an important key to keeping our thoughts on purpose.

Affirmations are best used in the present tense, such as “I am doing what I love and living abundantly.”

Irish Blessings

Mom was a great story teller who freely shared with me her personal history of growing up in Ireland. Her great faith in God and devotion to Mother Mary were her strength that sustained her as she faced many hardships throughout her life.

Irish Blessings, like prayers are a simple way to talk to God. When I repeat these Blessings I am setting my intention for my loved ones as well as myself. What a wonderful  way to start the day as I feel more connected to my roots in Ireland.

As a result I feel more relaxed, centered and peaceful. That’s the wonderful bonus – I get a healing when I pray for others through repeating these Irish Blessings. I am honored to share them with you here.

Reiki Healing

“Reiki…being a Universal force from the Great Divine Spirit, it belongs to all who seek and desire to learn the art of healing – Hawayo Takata

Reiki (pronounced “ray-key”) Healing is an ancient Japanese hands-on healing art.  It is a method of natural healing that is a form of bodywork and energy medicine.  The Reiki practitioner channels universal (rei) life force energy (ki) through the palms of their hands. The hands are placed on or slightly above the fully clothed body of the client.  The hands are held in a specific position for about two minutes and then moved.

In Reiki healing the practitioner is intuitively guided to what each area of the body needs and the length of time needed.  Usually the client feels a warm sensation or waves of energy. Where there is inflammation, that part of the body may feel coolness and the body will draw what it needs for balance.

The most important part of Reiki Healing is the intention to heal. Reiki Healers are open-hearted and open-minded. They offer themselves up as channels of God’s healing energy. There is no room for the ego here.

Reiki Distance Healing

Reiki Distance Healing is taught in Reiki II class. There are several ways to send Reiki Healing which we will discuss in the circle.

We will go into a guided meditation together so that we are relaxed, centered and focused on our intention to heal. Then we will send Reiki Healing to our loved ones, each other, all our brothers and sisters on planet Earth and for Goddess Gaia herself.

For more than 29 years I have been helping many people from all walks of life and across the world, including India, China and England. Some clients prefer to come see me in person for an Intuitive Reading.

However, the majority of my clients call me for phone sessions. Intuition is unlimited as God is unlimited so it doesn’t matter whether you are in the same room with me or in Hong Kong! My intention is the same – to serve as a channel of clarity and healing to assist you in all areas of your life. Doing this work makes me truly happy and I blessed to be able to help people and do what I love.

When you set up an Intuitive Reading in Seattle or a phone session with me, it’s best to write down your questions ahead of time. This helps focus your intention on what it you want guidance for in your life.

At the beginning of your Intuitive Reading, I go deep into a meditative state and ask Spirit to allow me to be a clear and pure channel of love, healing and guidance for you. The answer to each question flows through me in words and pictures and the information received is spiritual in nature, yet practical for every day life.
