A Limerick and a Block

One Diwali day, while in the campus I stayed
I gathered a lot of junk and packed it in my trunk.
I moved one day with all the junk that lay
In the trunk which I only opened after a year in Bombay.
I found rocks and socks and wooden blocks
Of which I painted a block in the memory of that Diwali day.

A few things made sense today. I found inks and glass paints and colour paper.
Throw in some salt and I found a Galaxy on my desk.

It sprains my neck to turn 90 degrees every time I want to look at clouds,
And to my disappointment all I see is wires and these alien structures.
People are meant to walk on these things.
They call it sky walks.
How desperately they want us to reach great heights.
They are doing their very best.
.But no one wants to get up there.
There are other trivial things holding them back like the vegetable vendor who gives them a 2% discount and the cobbler they need for over-stitching the 1 month old sandal bough from a sale just two shops ahead.

It has not been very long since I left Mumbai...3 years to be precise.
There are police for crowd controlling on station bridges and a week's grocery equals more than or equal to a grand.
But people still march in, storm in and survive.
The ever growing population and the stench all the same.
I am yet to decide whether I should take the sky walk or walk on under.

I have not bought a writing book for a year and a half. I feel almost guilty doing so.
When I'm in need of a book, I bind and cut it myself.
It is a little bit wonky but I believe I will get to perfection and make pure hand-bound books

Temporary Retirement

I have left work for a while to document my diploma project in order to convocate on time.

I felt powerful yesterday but it faded away today.

Sitting at Jon/Sang's place I have all the time for thinking, tinkering, writing, cooking, chai, freelancing, doodling, spell-towering and yet there seems to me a nagging deadline so near but so far away.

It has been a while since the competition has ended. It had slipped my mind to put this up. I had sent this entry and was one among the 8 shortlisted entries at the competition.

Culture in India is organically interwoven with nature. This can be seen in all aspects of our day-to-day life including occupation, lifestyle and religion. This relationship with nature is apparent in simple products we had, which were conceived from the nature, served its purpose and went back to where it came from. They lived more than one lives, being used for different purposes, which makes it almost spiritual.

A Good product [sustainable, functional, simple, and systemic] can be represented by a visual union of a Mandala, which represents the infinite whole, an organizational structure of life in the Indian context as well as in many other cultures through the world; and the product itself in the form of a dot, exuding power and uniqueness, existing in a system and synergized with the nature.

The time difference between my posts seem to be steadily increasing!
Its just once in a while that some project comes prancing around that does not demand much formality.
The time it spends with you is short but intense and fully engulfing.

One such project was by Legends of Rock hosting Black Sun-the band that rocks the blues, I think...
I came in where they required posters designed for the event. I was automatically transported to Poster Wars in NID- for Teams, Films and Dates.
So this is to you BLACK SUN... Spread your Darkness!!!

I have been here in Bangalore from the 29th of January. Nice place, people are ok, coffee is great, transport slow, shitty bus systems, pleasant whether, great roomie, fun weekends, nice project, good boss....

My first ever canvas and it was up in the One Square Foot exhibition in collaboration with Studio Verve, Artists and Designers.
I realized why I never did a canvas painting...a canvas demands from me to be formal and relevant and worth the effort in stretching and mounting. Also the colour white by itself in intimidating and scary

My work is the one with feet together.
It reads 'This is all the personal space you have'- taking the name of the exhibition literally, to send out a message.
