I give up dabbling in the occult arts, many years ago. After more than a half century of silence, I feel that it is to admit that I was partly responsible for the flooding of great Arkansas-Missouri l938 safely.

But, above all, it is the fault of Chief Kow Tow and Cousin Charley. Chief Kow Tow claimed to be of noble blood Choctaw, whose ancestors were forced Oklahoma territory booking many moons ago. He has avoided the white devils and remained on the spot of the Missouri "do big medicine" for the ancestral spirits still haunts the shores of the St. Francis.

His real name of the Chief was unpronounceable. Kow Tow was as close to that folks could get the audio band. He said that his name means singing In the clouds. Towing Koe stressed the fact that he was 100 years old. He has been touted as a young brave, he took 99 scalps and promised by his guide the spirit, the Hawk, a year of life for each trophy. After having exceeded its allocation of the years, said Chief that he felt obliged to account even taking a more White Devil of the scalp, before his death.

Folks pooh-poohed threatens the Kow Tow head as showmanship for his company of wooden spoons. Four notches on the handle and pokeberry on the Bowl spot was secured to ward off public poison. RI people, but bombed by a dollar for a magic spoon just in case.

Charley was not a character as colorful as the Kow Tow. Nevertheless, my older cousin had managed to become a legend in his time. During a visit of the summer at his house, it is that he introduced me to the main celebrity of the town.

The old Indian lived alone in a tin-roof shack a room in a canebrake. Mosquitoes have been fierce but does not seem to bother him. Towing tolerated Koe visitors if they brought a bit of sugar, coffee, tobacco or whiskey - the only necessities, it did not grow in his garden or find in nature. It reminds those who do not have to make a donation by the head of its debt to the nozzle.

Missouri and Arkansas suffer drought. Cotton was drying fruit. It was inspiration for the Cousin Charley that we ask Chief Kow Tow to perform a rain dance. Incitement, we have invested in a bag of Bull Durham and Peppermint stick, feast of the old man (my money).

The Chief received us cordially enough and heard our request. It thoughtfully taken on Peppermint before responding. This powerful medicine. Value most. What else you got After negotiating, we laid in a jack knife, a red bandana and a badge of catechesis gave me 13 weeks perfect attendance my all- ime.

Collection of his booty, Kow Tow withdrew in his cabin. Bye and bye that he reappears dressed in a silk top hat surrounded by feathers, a frock coat and a red tie on her dress typical of the flannel shirt and faded Levis. Over his shoulder, he was wearing a fringed bag, buckskin decorated with mysterious paintings of birds and symbols. It Kow Tow took four arrows tipped with beautiful pink and white stone that I know now came from Flint Ridge, Ohio, and was widely traded between Indian ceremonies.

Chief has attracted a place on the field and blocked its arrows point in the corners. At the Centre, it establishes a bowl of decorated pottery. In the bowl, he collapsed sumac leaves, Willow bark and some of its newly acquired tobacco bag of Bull Durham pinching. explains. "Sacred smoke doing." Towing Koe begins striking sparks of two stones on the grapes. Currently a think smoke curled upwards, and it the inflamed with a hawk wing. He considered the slow mixing and breathed in fumes.

you, too, he commanded. Charley and I've sniffed the acrid smoke. It was in our eyes burn and our heads swim a little. Then the old Chief took two, gourd rattles his medicine bag and started dancing around the arrows. "Hein yuh, Hein yuh,"he sang as he shook rattles vigorously."." I felt goose bumps rising on my arm. Definitely, whispers Cousin Charley. Ain this sumthin

After about ten minutes of trampling and chanting, Chief Kow Tow stopped suddenly. It's a lot, he said flatly that he gathered up his gear. We thanked and left, confident that the long drought would be soon on.

By golly, the next day it began to rain hard Regularly, it rained for two days and two nights. Off the coast of the distance, we hear a faint, continuous rumble. "Rising water," adult with whisper worried said the other. cousin Charley and I were afraid. It was more that we had negotiated. In the dark early in the third morning rain, he had a hit on the front door. It is obvious that of bad news.

Uncle Ruppert gushes out of bed, remote sensing already the problem. The lifting of New Madrid broke, exclaimed the Messenger. They need all the help they can get.Aunt Thelma fixed two sandwiches for Uncle Ruppert and kissed it leaves to join a scattered line of other men Puttering along the railway, the higher ground. "Be careful Rup!

Cousin Charley and I trembled. In the afternoon we oath a mighty sealed with blood nose our thumbs never to say about our visit senior Kow Tow. Uncle Ruppert came home two days later reintes and Haggard. He had not slept for 36 hours. It was tragic news.

The main lifting of Mississippi had broken, but held secondary dam. Men were conveyed by barge through the flood of heaving sandbags into the breach. On one of the routes, the barge overturned. Twenty men drowned! There was a score of sad funerals this week of Missouri, one in our city. My guilt was overwhelming.

Cousin Charley came to visit me a year later and told me that he had already obtained in a debate with Chief Kow Tow on the possession of a dog. This hound resumed with me, but old Kow Tow said that it was him. I began to dispute, but he said, does not bother me or I'll make it rain l saw his point immediately said Charley. This mangy dog not much of a Hunter anyway.

Click here to see this article on the site Web of Lindsey Williams

Cure Poison of the Druid, not unnecessary capacity

Log into your world of warcraft, you open spellbook, go to the Restore tab and find the ability called: "Cure Poison."

Don't panic if you see it, many of your fellow Druids have not so.

It is a good example of lack of education many players of World of Warcraft is they know even not all the capabilities of their classes The first step to be reasonably competitive in PvP, you need to know your class, and I'll start my blog written about PvP with this capability.

Cure Poison is not a fate of trainer, a reward of a specific search of the Druid class. I don't spoon feed you here with a link, do the yourself.

Even if you have it in your spellbook, I bet that you have on your action bar. "Why put the on action bars when you"Abolish Poison You ask. Good question.

"Abolish Poison" heals poison 1 immediately and 1 more every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, thus removing a total of 5 poisons for the same price of mana as 'the Poison treatment. "

Why I mention "Cure Poison" when "Deal Poison" covers all of its functions and offers more for the same price of mana Because in the rare cases where you want to remove as quickly as possible, "Cure Poison" contributes to poisons.

Now, the following simple math:

With only "abolish Poison", you remove poisons dry 0, 2 s, 4 s, dry 6, 8 sec.
With "Deal Poison" and "Cure Poison", you can remove poisons dry 0, 1.5 sec, 2 s, 3 s, sec 4, dry 4.5, 6sec (2), 7.5 sec and 8 sec.

Sure that you use more mana, but most poisons are removed in the same period of time. When mana is not a problem, but the rate of elimination is, using "Cure Poison" becomes a very attractive option.

Now when is it useful? I must admit I do not often use it, but in certain situations, it can help much.

Here is a situation where you want to remove poisons as quickly as possible. Your partner has 5 chimneys of wound poison and paralyzing poison on him and desperately need to get some distance between him and the rogue. If you put "Deal Poison" on him and the rogue cyclone or root. But it takes more than 8 seconds for it to remove the poison and during this time, the rogue can have already been out of the crowd control and returned to your partner.

Druid is a powerful PvP class small scale and most of the druids can reach the high rating without using every trick available to them, and certainly this "Cure Poison" capability is not something, that you need to win the game. But the more you know, more options you have, you will be the winner.

Discover how to resist the damage of Poison in a Duel in Diablo II, using wind Carrion ring

Wind carrion is a single ring, and as the dwarf star and frost Raven, you can probably say its name only what resistance he deals with. If you guessed Poison, well, you guessed it right. We will take a look at the stats of the Carrion wind below and see if it's a useful ring:

Stats:

Level requirement: 60

10% Chance to cast level 10 Nova Poison when he hit

8% Chance to make a Cast Twister of level 13 on striking

6-9% Life stolen per Hit (varies)

+ 100-160 Defence against missiles (varies)

Poison Resist + 55 %

10% Damage taken goes to Mana

Level 21 Poison Creeper (15 charges)

10% Chance to cast level 10 Nova Poison when he hit

Poison Nova is a Poison of Poison necromancer and os skill tree skill. It causes a ring of gas toxic to explode in a circular explosion across the necromancer, Poison damage for a duration of 2 seconds and very cool research on the screen.

A Poison Nova of level 10 is 194-236 Poison damage in the fixed duration of 2 seconds.

Characters involved tend to be involved in the thick of the battle, they would often get hit, and thus, it would be a mod good to have a melee character, because it would result in 10% of all received beatings they receive.

8% Chance to make a Cast Twister of level 13 on striking

Twister is a lot of basic skills of the Druid tree. It takes several small tornadoes that crash against the enemies of the Druid, physical damage and Stunning targets by 0.4 seconds. Stunning duration is set by the physics of damage depends on the level of the tornado.

A tornado of level 13 is physical damage 37-39.

As conditional trigger for this mod is on strike, he would go well with the Melee characters who like to deal physical damage.

6-9% Life stolen per Hit (varies)

Life Leech is always a welcome mod for the characters in the melee.

+ 100-160 Defence against missiles (varies)

Provides a good all round defence against enemy boost long distance.

Poison Resist + 55 %

As its name would imply, carrion wind deals with Poison resistance. 55% is a massive boost from your Poison resistance character.

10% Damage taken goes to Mana

Good for characters in the melee that depend on Mana-draining skills as their first attack of talent, as they tend to receive more hits roller.

Level 21 Poison Creeper (15 charges)

If you have the exorbitant amount of money for this recharge to blacksmiths, a Poison Creeper of level 21 can be a very good condition. He travelled through the soil and poisons all hostile creatures in the region.

Summary:

Looking at the mods of the wind of carrion, seems that it would be a suitable ring for the characters of the melee seeking good life Leech and enormous resistance of Poison.

Dog Poisons

Not all food or household items are dog friendly. In fact, some are toxic and even fatal. As their two-legged counterparts, there are many poisons in food and dogs nearby must avoid.

Bacteria poisoning food routine, such as salmonella, e. coli and yersinia, affect dogs and human beings human. Use the rule that if you do not want to do for you, it does serve to your dog. Homemade foods, especially meat components, should be cooked properly to prevent foodborne illness. Storage and cooking removes vitamins and minerals, so supplements when appropriate should be added before feeding.

If not treated, the symptoms can last up to 3 days and be fatal!

Young dog, the most dangerous is the risk of chocolate poisoning. Baking chocolate is the most dangerous for dogs. Two different toxins called methyxanthines are chocolate the caffeine and alkaloid theobromine (less well known and most dangerous). Ingestion of chocolate can cause vomiting, diarrhea, depression, muscle tremors, excessive thirst with frequent urination. The dog may become restless and start a stimulation. More dangerous symptoms may develop including high/irregular of heart rate, blood pressure changes and seizures.

Reflection on the ingredients don't?

You want may treat your dog to a family rest, not thinking about the ingredients. Onions and garlic contain disulfide called substances can poison your dog. Disulfides damage the surface of red blood cells, forcing them to explode. The result is a disease called Heinz body anemia. The dog becomes weak and breathless and may require a blood transfusion for recovery. The red pigment in urine (hemoglobinuria) is easily confused with urinary problems.

In different fungi poisons can have a variety of results for your dog: failure of kidneys and the liver (with abdominal pain), delirium, vomiting and diarrhea, seizures, coma, perhaps death. Symptoms may begin to 20 minutes to 8 hours after ingestion. Attention when walking your dog in grass or forest areas!

Grapes can be a deadly poison for your dog.

Dogs all over the world love grapes but in 1989, the ASPCA has reported a new trend: almost all dogs that grapes consumed or grapes developed kidney failure. When medical care was requested, blood calcium, blood urea nitrogen concentrations, elevated creatinine and phosphorus were observed. These chemicals reflect kidney function. If urine production is interrupted, grapes can be a deadly poison for your dog. Treatment can have success with immediate medical intervention - call your vet!

If the bones are good or toxic for dogs is strongly debated. Cooked bones become brittle and dry, absorb water from the digestive tract of the dog and cause intestinal blockage and constipation. Many raw bones can break up and punch the digestive tract, usually requiring surgery to repair. Bone fragments may also file in the mouth or throat, causing discomfort, mouth roof perforations, dental damage and suffocation at worst. Raw bones can be toxic to your dog if contaminated by bacteria. Excess in the bone marrow, which is most often fat, can lead to pancreatitis in sensitive dogs.

Other potential toxic food for your dog are:

Careers of PEAR, grains of plums, fisheries, and apricots, apple in the pits database (contain resulting in cyanide poisoning cyanogenic glycosides). The peels of potatoes and green potato research. Rhubarb leaves. Moldy and spoiled food. Alcohol. Yeast dough. Reasons for coffee beans and tea (caffeine). Hops (used in the brewing of the House). Tomato leaves and stems. Broccoli in large quantities. Skin Turkey.

Antifreeze, which accumulates on the fairways and coatings road, odours and good for your dog but is toxic and very deadly. Other very accessible to avoid your dog outside poisons are: charcoal lighter fluid, gasoline, kerosene, lead, limestone, paint more thin, cleaning fluids, rodent poison, essence of turpentine, cocoa mulch.

Household poisons for your dog to avoid are: cigarette/tobacco/cigars, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Tablet, caffeine, acetone, ammonia, bleach, deodorants, Polish furniture, bands flies, mites, pesticide, alcohol, soap.

If your pet ingests accidentally any food, plant or chemical poison, call your veterinarian immediately or the National Centre poison Animal 1 900 680 0000.

Common plants that are toxic to your dog are: amaryllis, bush azalea, boxwood, cactus, columbine, Daffodil flower bud, dumbcane, Ivy, digitale, hemlock, honeysuckle, horse chestnut, ivy, the lily of the Valley, Lupine, marijuana, GUI, morning glory, Laurier rose, philodendron, poinsettia, rhubarb, cabbage, Skunk, tulip bulbsif.

Find a Pet Dart poison

Living in the countries of South and Central America as Costa Rica, Colombia, the Bolivia and the Peru, poison dart frog is a stunning, brilliant colourful frog secretes a poisonous toxin. Only this unique frog was discovered by the scientific community in the 1960s, but known by tribes for many years. The name of the frog, one might think that it is somehow able to shoot poison darts, but is simply not the case. The designation of dart poison comes of the tribes in the rainforest use poison on the advice of darts that they would use to submit a threat.

The poison dart frog is not only a frog but a frogs set that contains more than 100 different types of poison dart frogs. Usually, these frogs are relatively small and are less than 2.5 cm long, but some species can grow up to about 2.5 inches.

Then the poison in many species of poison dart frogs may not be sufficient to kill a man in good health, they have had cases where the poison entered a cutting or zero which resulted in the death. Their poison is very effective in controlling predators, but if a poison dart frog was born in captivity, it is unlikely that they will contain poison. The poison that developed in the frog while out in the wild is because of its diet of ants, termites, beetles and other insects. When they eat has more toxic beetles of Central America, the toxins in their bodies are more products, making them harmless.

Most of us is used to see frogs on a pond, Marsh or streams, but the dart frog is different. It has no webbed feet and is therefore not a good swimmer, so you will not find one of these frogs live in ponds.

Unfortunately, the Poison Dart Frog is experiencing a crisis in the population and is on the list of endangered species. The years, the destruction of lands of the rainforest and drought in their regions, these frogs have decreased in number. Fortunately, pet Poison Dart Frogs are raised in captivity and are not collected in nature.

The vivid colours of these frogs are just incredible and this is why people want to keep as pets is no surprise. With proper care, Poison Dart Frog can live many years in captivity.

Food is poisoning us - P2

There are many causes of food poisoning:

· Bacteria are responsible for the highest number of outbreaks. 80% of all food poisoning cases are caused by bacteria.

· Chemicals such as cleaning products, excess additives and preservatives, fuel fumes, strong after shaves/perfumes, agricultural chemicals, pesticides. In 1997 aluminum sulphate was inadvertently dumped into a reservoir in Camelford, Cornwall, UK. Twelve years later many relations of people who have died from Alzheimer's disease, claim that the contamination in 1997 caused their deaths. (Autopsies of Alzheimer victims show a large proportion of aluminum in their brain cells compared to people who have not suffered from dementia).

In the 1970s an Austrian wine company deliberately sweetened their produce with industrial anti-freeze.

In the 1980s a Spanish company passed off used, industrial motor oil as virgin olive oil.

In 2008 a Chinese company deliberately added melamine to baby milk powder.

In the above examples there were a considerable number of deaths.

· When certain moulds grow on fruit or grains, they produce a poison called a mycotoxin, such as ochratoxin A and patulin. Both can cause cancer.

· Metals such as cadmium, zinc, lead and mercury can cause illness. Also one has to be careful what type of metallic container acidic fruit is cooked in. In the catering industry we tend mainly to use aluminum saucepans. If acidic fruit is cooked in aluminum, the metal becomes discoloured and the fruit retains a metallic taint. Probably not life threatening in the short term, but certainly illegal as far as the UK legislation is concerned. The best container to use would be one that would not react with the fruit such as stainless steel or glass.

· Only food safe plastics must be used for storage of food items. Plastic containers bought from hardware stores that are not meant for food storage contain industrial dyes, which can contain arsenic and strychnine, which could leach into the food.

· Natural poisons include poisonous fungi, rhubarb leaves, deadly nightshade and dried red kidney beans. Always ensure you identify the edible species of fungi if you like foraging for wild mushrooms. Rhubarb leaves contain oxalic acid (wood bleach), which is deadly poisonous. Deadly nightshade was found in dried fruit tea, imported from Germany, several years ago, which caused severe illness. Dried red kidney beans contain a natural toxin. In order to deactivate the poison, the beans must be boiled vigorously for at least 15 minutes before using. The boiling can be before or after soaking. Canned red kidney beans are safe; they have already been processed to de-activate the toxin.

· Fresh fish must be thoroughly cooked before eating. Do not undercook as serious parasitic infection could ensue. The freshest fish to eat is frozen fish, strangely enough! All fish, whether from fresh or sea water, from cold or warm temperatures contain parasites within the flesh. Cooking the fish to the right temperature will kill all parasites and the fish will be safe to eat. If the fish is undercooked, as some "so called" telly chefs would insist, then you can develop a parasitic infection, which can be quite serious. If fish is to be undercooked, then it must be frozen first, which will kill the parasites. Under UK health and safety legislation, all fish used for use with Sushi rice, must be frozen for at least 36 hours before being used. All animals, including fish, must be refrigerated immediately after slaughter, to prevent any build up of bacterial growth and toxin production. Depending on the fishmonger's or supermarket's location, it can take as long as 7 days for the fresh fish to be transported from water to display. If the integrity of the cold chain has been compromised in any way, the fish can be hazardous.

Fugu (Puffer or Blow fish) is a delicacy in Japanese restaurants. The internal organs: the ovaries, liver and skin, contain a deadly toxin (tetrodotoxin). If the fish is not prepared correctly, the toxin can leach into the flesh and cause lethal poisoning if ingested. The poison causes paralysis of the muscles while the victim stays fully conscious, and eventually dies from asphyxiation. There is no available antidote. In order to prepare fugu, the chef must be licensed. The training course for licensing lasts for two years. Part of the training course involves eating their preparation. 75% of trainee chefs fall seriously ill, some die, during the training course. If you see this delicacy on a menu, give it a wide berth, unless you are one to live on the edge!

Some symptoms of food poisoning include:

Nausea

Vomiting

Abdominal Cramps

Diarrhoea

These are the body's self defence mechanisms to deal with the disease. When pathogens are ingested with food, the chemicals on the bacterial membrane act as an alert signal, which the brain quickly senses and sends messages, firstly to the oesophagus, giving rise to nausea, and secondly to the stomach. The vomiting centre (a region within the brain) instructs the stomach to expel all contents as quickly as possible (vomiting).

Another line of defence is the stomach. The parietal cells within the epithelium of the stomach secrete hydrochloric acid (gastric juices). Its main purpose is to start to break down food and kill pathogens. The acid is non discriminatory and will kill all bacteria, including the pre-biotic bacteria that allegedly help the digestive processes. The main digestive processes take place in the small intestine, which the pre-biotics never reach! Because of the size of that industry, no government of the day will repudiate their claims.

E coli are acid tolerant bacteria and if they remain in the stomach after vomiting, they resist the stomach acid and reach the small intestine. The bacteria will start to grow and attract the body's next line of defence, its antibodies. The antibodies attack the bacteria and a battle commences. This battle causes the stomach cramps. Some variants of E coli release poisons into the blood stream, which affect the kidneys, often causing kidney failure.

If other bacteria manage to invade the small intestine, they also cause stomach cramps.

We have symbiotic bacteria living in our colon, which break down the last of the food material, leaving faeces. Even E coli are residents, but harmless, helpful variants; good friends! These E coli synthesise vitamin K from the food, which acts as a blood clotting factor. So if it wasn't for E coli we could bleed to death!

However, as the surviving pathogens enter the colon they interrupt the colon's main duty of absorbing as much water as possible from the faeces and actually reverses the process. The bacteria cause an influx of chloride ions into body cells, causing a mass diffusion of water from the cells to enter the colon, mixing with the faeces and giving rise to diarrhoea.

The symptoms of food poisoning are not life threatening, albeit not very pleasant. The life threatening element of food poisoning is dehydration, resulting from fluid loss via vomiting and diarrhoea. Dehydration does kill.

The body requires sufficient water and salts in order for the major organs to work. Severe dehydration causes the organs to fail, resulting in death.

Dehydration is not a serious problem in developed countries as fluids can be replaced with chlorinated tap water or bottled water. In under-developed countries which have a non-chlorinated water supply or well water, hydration can exacerbate the situation. The water might well be contaminated from faeces or decomposing animal life.

Natural disasters are also a major problem, such as earthquakes and floods. Even "clean" drinking water becomes contaminated from dead and dying animals and faeces from flooded or damaged sewers.

Statistically speaking, if no clean water is available for disaster victims, at least 50 times the number of people who are killed by the disaster, will be affected, and possibly die, from food poisoning or from a Foodborne disease such as typhoid or cholera.

There are groups of people who are more affected by food poisoning than healthy adults.

They are:

· The elderly, whose immune system is not as strong as it used to be, their organs are much weaker as they get older. In 1996, 22 people died from E coli food poisoning in Wishaw, in Scotland. All victims were elderly.

· The very young haven't developed an immune system yet, their organs are still not fully developed to be able to cope with poisoning. Mason Jones, a five year old child from Deri, South Wales, died from E coli food poisoning due to contaminated meat supplied by a butcher in Bridgend, South Wales.

· People who are already ill cannot fight another disease. The body has evolved to competently fight one disease at a time. It concentrates all its resources to one battle only.

· Pregnant women can become infected by Listeria, bacteria that infect the placenta, and prevent nutrients and oxygen from reaching the foetus, causing stillbirth or miscarriage.

The majority of food poisoning is caused by bacteria. Other culprits of food poisoning include chemicals, moulds, metals, plastics, natural poisons, and fresh fish. The symptoms of food poisoning are the body's self defence mechanisms. The groups of people who are more susceptible to food poisoning than health adults include the elderly, very young, pregnant women and ill or immunocompromised.

Food poisoning - how to avoid, how to deal

While the supply of food America's is the safest in the world, food poisoning is responsible for about 76 million illnesses to the United States each year. In fact, it is estimated that 60% or more of the poultry sold today probably with pathogenic bacteria. Anyone who eat food contaminated by some bacteria, parasites or viruses can get food poisoning. Some factors such as age and physical condition can make some people more vulnerable than others to food poisoning. Infants, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are most at risk.

For most people in good condition, food poisoning is usually long lasting or fatal. However, at least healthy individuals, it can become a threat to health, accounting for approximately 5 000 deaths each year.

The good news is that by taking simple precautionary measures when purchasing, handling and food preparation you can prevent most cases of food poisoning in the home.

What causes food poisoning Food poisoning is most often caused by bacteria, parasites or viruses that may be present in the foods you've eaten. You may have heard the names of many of these organizations. They include Escherichia coli (e. coli, Campylobacter jejuni, Clostridium botulinum, Shigella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus aureus, Trichinella virus and hepatitis, to name a few. They can be present in a wide range of foods, including red meat, poultry, milk and other dairy products, eggs, unpasteurized vegetable juices and cider, spices, chocolate, seafood and even water.

These organisms may be present on your food when it is purchased or can be found in foods, including cooked foods, if the food comes into contact with the juice of raw meat on Sales utensils, cutting boards or countertops used to prepare contaminated food. That?s why it is important not only to completely Cook your food, but to wash your hands, utensils and countertops, before and after handling raw foods.

What are the symptoms Symptoms vary depending on the type and quantity of contaminants eaten. Some people may get sick after ingesting only a small amount of harmful bacteria, while others may remain free of symptoms after eating larger amounts. The most common symptoms of food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the stomach (cramps), fever, headache and fatigue. Symptoms can appear as soon as 30 minutes after eating food contaminated, but more generally do not develop several days or weeks. Symptoms of food poisoning, viral or parasitic appear not for several weeks, while some toxins in fish may take a few minutes to cause symptoms.

If you have the botulism, you probably do not have a fever and symptoms may include blurred vision, fatigue, dry mouth and throat.

How food poisoning is diagnosed Food poisoning is often suspected when several people sick after eating the same meal. To diagnose the cause of the disease, your doctor will need to know the symptoms and what was eaten just before the occurrence of the disease. The doctor may need food, stool samples or vomiting. These samples can be tested in the laboratory to determine whether the food has been contaminated and identify the organism causing the disease.

How is it treated If symptoms are severe, the victim must consult a doctor or to obtain emergency care. Treatment depends on the severity and the cause of food poisoning. Generally, for cases mild food poisoning, the doctor will recommend to you rest, drink fluids to prevent dehydration due to diarrhoea or vomiting and follow a specific regime. It only takes usually about 1 to 5 days to recover from food poisoning.

If you have the botulism, your doctor will prescribe an antitoxin. Other types of food poisoning have no antidote. Antibiotics are generally not useful in the treatment of food poisoning. Medicine stop vomiting and stomach cramps can be given.

Prevention is the best approach to avoid food-borne illness that can prevent most cases of food poisoning. Here is a list of some simple Do's and Don't for you help avoid food poisoning in the home.

Wash your hands, utensils, cutting boards and countertops between different foods

hrefrigerate or freeze perishable immediately (the refrigerator temperature should be 41° f and freezer 0°F)

hompletely Cook the food. Cook the beef, lamb and pork to an internal temperature of 160°F; whole poultry and thighs to your; poultry breasts to 82°c, chicken or Turkey 165°F

hrefrigerate foods remains as soon as possible. shouldn't remnants remain without refrigeration longer than two hours.

while shopping, select the frozen foods and perishables such as meat, poultry and fish last - before checking out

use cutting boards smooth hard maple or plastic which are free of cracks and the cracks

store meat raw in leakproof containers or on the bottom of the hrefrigerator to avoid the juices dripping onto other foods

Don't allow grilled meat, juices of meat, or unwashed fruits and vegetables to come into contact with foods cooked or washed

Don't buy seafood frozen if the packages are open, torn or crushed on the edges

buy canned food is or cupped cupping, or in jars of Don't is cracked

Don't never buy food lapsed. Check the dates of by of use by or sell

Don't buy unpasteurized milk or dairy products

purchase step of hrefrigerated or frozen products which are not displayed at the proper temperature

do not leave small children put food away unsupervised

More information on this important health issue can be obtained from the following sources: Government of Security Information entrance door food U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition http://vm.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/wh-food.html food safety and Inspection Service United States Department of Agriculture http://www.fsis.usda.gov/OA/pubs/consumerpubs.htm

Support as an educational service by Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation. The symptoms of food poisoning are:

1. nausea - a queasy feeling as if you were about to be sick

2. sickness - vomiting

3. Pains in the bowl - gripping pains in the area of the stomach

4. Diarrhea

5. Fever

The main causes of food poisoning are:

1. Bacteria - the commonest

2. Viruses - which are smaller than bacteria, are normally found in water

3. Chemicals - Insecticides and weed-killers

4. Metals - lead pipes, copper pans

5. Poisonous plants - toadstools, red kidney beans (insufficiently cooked)

Bacteria is the most common form of food poisoning and so it is important that we know more about them. Bacteria are tiny bugs that live in the air, in water, in soil, on and in people, in and on food. Some bacteria causes illness. They are called PATHOGENIC bacteria. Some bacteria cause food to rot and decay, they are called SPOILAGE bacteria. There are four things that bacteria need in order to grow. These are:

Warmth. They love body temperature of 73 degrees but can happily grow at 15 degrees. They grow most readily between 5c and 63c. This is known as the DANGER ZONE

Time. Each bacteria grows by splitting in half. This takes time, on average every 20 minutes. This is known as BINARY FISSION. Imagine, one single bacterium by splitting in half every ten minutes can become more than a million in 3 and a half hours.

Food. They like high protein foods for example, poultry, cooked meat, dairy produce, shellfish, cooked rice, stews and gravies.

Moisture. They need water and most foods have enough water or moisture to let the bacteria thrive.

Some bacteria can form a hard protective case around themselves, this is called a SPORE. This happens when the 'going gets tough', when it gets too hot or too dry. So they are able to survive very hot or cold temperatures and can even be present in dried foods. Once the right conditions (5 - 63c) return, the spore comes out of its protective casing and becomes a growing, food poisoning bacteria again.

Bacteria and food poisoning

We have established that the presence of bacteria is one of the most common causes of food poisoning - the presence of poisonous chemicals can also cause food poisoning. There are a number of potentially toxic chemicals present in food. For example, potatoes which have turned green contain the toxic substance, Solanine, which is only dangerous when eaten in excess.

Rhubarb contains Oxalic Acid - the amounts present in the stems which are normally cooked are relatively harmless to humans, but the higher concentration in the leaves makes them very dangerous to eat.

A toxin is a poisonous substance that may be produced by the metabolism of a plant or animal, especially certain bacteria. Toxic food poisoning is mainly caused by Staphylococci in the UK and more rarely in this country, Clostridium Botulinum.

Foods most commonly affected by Staphylococci are:

Meat pies

Sliced meats

Pies with gravy

Synthetic cream

Ice-cream

50-60% of people carry Staphylococci in their noses and throats and are present in nasal secretions following a cold. Staphylococci are also present in skin wounds and infections and find their way into foods via the the hands of an infected food handler. Hence the importance of keeping all wounds and skin conditions covered. Although staphylococci are themselves readily destroyed by thorough cooking or re-heating, the toxin which they produce is often much more heat-resistant and may need a higher temperature or longer cooking time for its complete destruction.

Food poisoning from Clostridium botulinum - known as botulism - is extremely serious. This produces a life-threatening toxin which is the most virulent poison known. Foods most commonly affected by clostridium botulinum are:

Inadequately processed canned meat, vegetables and fish.

During the commercial canning process, every care is taken to ensure that each part of the food is heated to a high enough temperature to ensure complete destruction of any clostridium botulinum spores that may be present.

YEASTS & MOULDS - microscopic organisms some of which are desirable in food and contribute to its characteristics. For example, ripening of cheese, bread fermentation etc. They are simple plants which appear like whiskers on food. To grow they require warmth, moisture and air. They are killed by heat and sunlight. Moulds can grow where there is too little moisture for yeasts and bacteria to grow. Yeasts are single celled plants or organisms larger than bacterial, that grow on foods containing moisture and sugar. Foods containing a small percentage of sugar and a large amount of liquid such as fruit juices and syrups are liable to ferment because of yeasts. Yeasts are destroyed by heat.

VIRUS - microscopic particles transmitted by food which may cause illness. For example, Hepatitis A (jaundice). Unlike bacteria, viruses cannot multiply or grow in food.

PROTOZOA - single celled organisms which live in water and are responsible for serious diseases such as malaria, usually spread by infected mosquitoes and dysentery. These food-borne infections are mostly caught abroad.

ESCHERICHIA COLI - E Coli is a normal part of the intestines of man and animals. It is found in human excreta and raw meat. E Coli causes abdominal pain, fever, diarrhea and vomiting. High standards of hygiene and through cooking of foods must be applied. Raw and cooked meat must be stored at correct temperature and cross contamination must be avoided.

SALMONELLA - is present in the intestines of animals and human beings. Foods affected include poultry, meat, eggs and shellfish. Prevention should include:

good standards of personal hygiene

elimination of insects and rodents.

washing hands and equipment and surfaces after handling raw poultry

not allowing carriers of the disease to handle food.

Control of Bacteria

There are three methods of controlling bacteria:

1. Protect food from bacteria in the air by keeping foods covered. To prevent cross contamination, use separate boards and knives for cooked and uncooked foods Use different coloured boards for particular foods. For example, red for meat, blue for fish, yellow for poultry etc. Store cooked and uncooked foods separately. Wash your hands frequently.

2. Do not keep foods in the danger zone of between 5c and 63c for longer than absolutely necessary.

3. To kill bacteria, subject bacteria to a temperature of 77c for 30 seconds or a higher temperature for less time. Certain bacteria develop into spores and can withstand higher temperatures for longer periods of time. Certain chemicals also kill bacteria and can be used for cleaning equipment and utensils.

The main food hygiene regulations of importance to the caterer are: Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995 and Food Safety (Temperature Control) Regulations 1995. These implemented the EC Food Hygiene directive (93/43 EEC). They replaced a number of different regulations including the Food Safety (General) Regulations of 1970. The 1995 Regulations are similar in many respects to earlier regulations. However, as with the Health & Safety legislation, these regulations place a strong emphasis on owners and managers to identify the safety risks, to design and implement appropriate systems to prevent contamination, these systems and procedures are covered by Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and/or Assured Safe Catering. The regulations place two general requirements on owners of food businesses:

To ensure that all food handling operations are carried out hygienically and according to the 'Rules of Hygiene.

To identify and control all potential food safety hazards, using a systems approach either HACCP or Assured Safe Catering.

In addition, there is an obligation on any food handler who may be suffering from or carrying a disease which could be transmitted through food to report this to the employer who may be obliged to prevent the person concerned from handling food. Catering establishments have a general obligation to supervise and instruct and provide training in food safety & hygiene commensurate with their employees' responsibilities. Details with regard to how much training is required, are not specified in the regulations. However, HMSO Industry Guide to Catering provides guidance on training which can be taken as a general standard to comply with legislation.

Prevention of food poisoning

Almost all food poisoning can be prevented by:

complying with the rules of hygiene

taking care and thinking head

ensuring that high standards of cleanliness are applied to premises and equipment

preventing accidents

high standards of personal hygiene

physical fitness

maintaining good working conditions

maintaining equipment in good repair and clean condition

using separate equipment and knives for cooked and uncooked foods

ample provision of cleaning facilities and equipment

storing foods at the right temperature

safe reheating of foods

quick cooling of foods prior to storage

protection of foods from vermin and insects;

hygienic washing-up procedures;

Knowing how food poison is caused

carrying out procedures to prevent food poisoning.

This has been just a brief overview of food safety. If you are in the catering trade or are planning do become a cook or chef, it is essential that you learn all there is to know about the subject. The following links should help to fill the gaps.

Essentially, you need to know the Food Regulations appertaining to your own country. Its pointless following the Food Safety Regulations of the UK if you live or work in Australia, Spain or New Zealand.

Health, Nutrition and feeding easy - combination of bad food

One of the most important systems in our body takes place in the digestive tract. That is where all our food intake is physiologically changed into nourishing and healing fuels and substances that make the zillions of cells work together for good in our fearfully and wonderfully made body. Health, nutrition and easy diet begin with avoiding wrong foods combination.

Wrong food combinations from too much varieties taken at the same time will cause too many different enzymes for effective processing in our digestive system. And if these are from bad foods, i.e., junk foods, sugars and processed foods, it will not actually provide enough enzymes for proper digestion. Enzymes are the essential protein molecules that break down the foods into the chemicals necessary for the proper operation of the body system healthy.

Wrong foods combination will inhibit digestion and create various degrees of digestive distress from fermentation and putrefaction, to food allergies, foul gas and stools, loose, impacted and pebbly stools and if persistent, even blood in the stools.

Experts tell us that undigested substances such as monosaccharides created in the digestive track become poison to the bloodstream. Alcohol, acetic acid, ptomaines (carbs), leucomaines, hydrogen sulphides become putrefied proteins and poison. Decomposed foods are created by rancid fats; carbon dioxide, acetic acid, alcohol and fermented carbohydrates (starches and sugars). If this isn't enough to scare us into changing our bad food habits, nothing will.

Eventually, these dangerous elements cause complicated common place problems such as painful hemorrhoids, diverticulosis, colitis, etc.

To avoid these, there are simple foods combination rules that should be followed:

First, we to eat at separate meals the following items: acids & starches; proteins & carbohydrates; proteins & acids (to avoid putrefaction); fats & proteins (fats stop gastric juices from performing); sugars and proteins (sugars digest only in internal and close in the stomach); starches & sugars (they prompt fermentation). I bet you're eating these together in one meal all the time! Well, truly most of us do.

Some example of acid and alkaline foods are:

Acid: meats, dairy products, fish, grain, wheat, nuts (almonds and brazil nuts except), cheeses, lentils, peanuts... these are high protein foods.

Alkaline: beans and bean sprouts, turnips, carrots, celery, cucumbers, lettuce, watercress, potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, millet; apricots, figs, plums, grapes, dates, grapefruit, peaches, apples, grapes, bananas in other words vegetables and fruits.

Experts recommend an alkaline-acid food ratio of about four to one, or eighty percent alkaline foods and twenty percent acid foods for a healthy body.

Eat one at a time: protein concentrated. In other words don't mix beef and fish, or pork and chicken, etc. Have one or the other at a meal.

Eat alone, at least 1/2 hour after a meal: melons (digests only in the intestine); milk; desserts. Desserts have no food value except if they are specifically made of wholesome and nutrient ingredients.

Factors to watch for which will create bacterial decomposition of foods during the digestive processes are: overeating (beyond natural enzymic limitations); eating when tired; eating just before heavy or stressful work; eating when too cold or too hot. eating when there is fever or inflammation; eating when in pain, angry, worried, anxious, fearful, etc.

The use of alcohol, vinegar, condiments will delay digestion and cause bacterial activity and decomposition of foods. Excessive bacterial activities can produce long-term health problems, diarrhea and nutrient losses.

Circumstances that will reduce bacterial decomposition of foods are: choices of alkaline groups of foods as opposed to acid, and simplicity of foods as opposed to a mixture; the removal of factors such as stress and anger. Taking care that the foods are digested properly in order to avoid rotting in the digestive process and seeing that foods are properly combined will reduce or eliminate gas, bad breath (caused by gastro-intestinal fermentation and putrefaction), foul stools and gas. Proper food combination will produce a sweet breath, odorless stools and no gas.

The following is an example list of some of the best and worst food combinations:

Good combinations are: protein and vegetables; complex starches, vegetables, vegetables; oil and leafy greens; oil and acid.

Fair combinations are: proteins and acid-fruit. leafy greens and fruit acid. leafy greens and sub-acid fruit; acid, sub-acid and sweet fruit.

Bad combinations: protein and simple starch; oil and simple starch; fruit and complex starch fruits and vegetables.

It is sad to say, but we will not enjoy perfect digestion and health until we respect our body's natural enzymic limitations and stop over-eating. We will have good health when we follow the rules of good foods combination, when we avoid mixtures and varieties of foods, when we resort to simple meals of one type at a time and when we eat with ease and comfort instead of in fast-paced and stressed out situations.

Health, nutrition and easy diet begins with avoiding the wrong foods combination that interfere, obstruct, impede and hinder our digestive system. Before undertaking any major alternative health program and adding supplements to your diet, check any matters of concern that you may have within your body with your doctor or health professional who can help to create a beneficial program for your individual need.

Here they come: the Poison plants of summer

A spring emerged and been is on the corner of the street. You know the signs. Daddy fires up the grill, oil raise gasoline prices and children down with itchy skin rashes. Toxic plants are back, and this summer, they promise to send two million Americans to the doctor's Office.

The three most common culprits - poison ivy, sumac and poison sumac - originate in America. European explorers had never seen before. Around 1600, Captain John Smith recorded his meeting when he wrote, "the poisoned weed is very shaped as our Ivy, but be affected, grows the redness, itching and finally, blisters."

Pocahontas may have warned. After all, the Indians knew all about poison ivy. Indian warriors coated their arrowheads with it, and medicine men rubbed the leaves on infections in an effort to break open the swollen skin.

Physicians loaned attention colonies. They jumped on the train of poison ivy and expanded its use for the treatment of herpes, eczema, arthritis, warts, ringworm and even rattlesnake bites. The use of poison sap in American medicine in the beginning was so widespread that poison was included in the pharmacopoeia of the United States as official therapeutic agent.

Today, we know that the eruption of plant poisons is contact dermatitis. On the first exhibition, most people develop antibodies against SAP. On subsequent exposure, antibodies attack the SAP, which resulted in the boring eruption. The few that are not antibodies will not get the rash. But they should still look - antibody production can begin anytime, making an idiot of poor Uncle Pete one or two days after it rubs poison ivy up and down her arm just to prove it ain't allergic.

So, what is anyway poison sap? The offending substance urushiol, a yellow oil within leaves, stems and roots of plant poisons. Because it is within the plant, intact leaves do harm you. However, if the leaves are chewed by insects, is made on, or otherwise damaged, leaks of oil on the surface of the plant where it can come into contact with human or animal skin. It turns out that only humans and close primates occurred with the rash. Dogs, cats, cattle and sheep are not affected, but they can transmit oil to their human keepers. Tools and clothing also spread oil and because SAP remains allergenic years unsuspecting gardeners spring can obtain the eruption of gloves of last season.

If you come in contact with sap poison or at the first sign of an eruption, you take a long shower with plenty of water and SOAP. Avoid sinking into a bath because oil can float, spreads to other parts of your body. Your skin of washing oil will stop the spread. Rash may still appear in new areas, but it is because the areas exposed to small amounts of sap take more time to get out.

Once you have the rash, there remains some time. The skin repair itself, a process of 10 to 14 days. All what you can do is in the range of treating the symptoms. With cream, mild cases free sale and oral Antihistamines - such as Benadryl - hydrocortisone is the best combination to control the inflammation and itching. If you have a generalized rash, participation of the face or blisters infected, it is time to consult your doctor. You may need steroid pills, a coup or an antibiotic.

As always, prevention is better. All the three poisons plants have leaves made up of three leaflets. My grandmother said, "leaves of three?". Let you be! ", and she was right." The leaves are green brilliant with a smooth surface. In the fall, the foliage may turn orange or red. Poison ivy is a vine robust weeds which often climbs trees. Sumac is more and more resembling shrubs. Poison sumac grows in marshy areas and can reach up to twenty feet tall.

It is a drug that stops the eruption by providing a barrier on the surface of exposed skin. IvyBlock (bentoquatam) is available at the counter and approved for six years and more. It should be applied 15 minutes prior to exposure and every 4 hours for the maintenance of the basic protection.

So get out there and take advantage of the spring. Grilling your burger. Fill your tank. A ride in the country. But when you get there, don't forget my grandmother said. Otherwise, you can finish by in the waiting room, scratching your wounds with these other two million Americans.

COPYRIGHT 2006, PATRICK MIKE JR, M.D.

Home remedies for poison Ivy works better than all the other drugs

Home remedy for poison ivy works better than all other drugs, but it is important to understand certain facts about this poisonous plant. Part 2 - Poison avoiding plants

You've waited and waited and finally the day is here. Whatever the occasion, a camping trip, a hunting trip or even a trip day out for the ride a little. The difference between a trip very good memories and a travel with memories that you would rather forget can be formulated in several ways. One thing is certain, that if you or a member of your group meeting any form of plant poison, for them the last two memories will be forever assigned to the output.

Poison ivy, sumac and poison sumac contain urushiol, the oil that actually causes the allergic people reaction when they come into contact with it. Many people have heard this rhyme "leaves of three beware of me", or some variation thereof to remember how poison ivy, and sumac are in the forest. Poison ivy can grow as a shrub green or green vine. Each leaf is made up of three leaflets, or of smaller leaves which are all attached to the plant stems. Sumac also has three leaves and can present as a shrub or a vine. Sumac varies in color from green to red and late spring, greenish-white flowers can be seen on the plant. Poison sumac does not correspond to the "leaves of three" configuration of poison ivy or sumac. Poison sumac is usually seven to eleven leaflets on each stem. The leaflets are alternating and the stem is red. In the fall, the leaves turn different colours ranging from bright yellow to deep purple.

There are some basic precautions can be taken to protect against exposure to Ivy, sumac and poison sumac on your hunting or camping trip. Porter clothing heavy such as long pants and long sleeved t-shirt can help prevent exposure. Barrier creams or treatment of the skin can also help. Nothing is also useful to learn about plants, what they look like and then actively on the look out for them prevent exposure.

In the event where you are exposed to poison ivy, sumac and poison sumac on your hunting or camping trip, wash the area performed with SOAP and hot water as soon as possible. Vitamin c is a widely accepted treatment. oral antihistamines may also help with itching. If you remain camping or hunting after exposure, milkweed is found in many places poison ivy is found. Treat the effected area with milkweed has been reported to prevent itching associated with exposure to limit the spread of the rash. Rhubarb and aloe vera can also be used in a similar manner.

There are many myths poison ivy, sumac and poison sumac. Among them is the myth that poison ivy is contagious. This is not the case, however, urushiol can spread from person to person by touch. If the person concerned has not washed off the coast of urushiol of the initial exposure, it can be transferred by contact. The idea that only a not worry dead plants is also false. URUSHIOL can remain on as dead plants long five years.

Knowing what to look for and avoid camping or hunting is the best protection against exposure to Ivy, sumac and poison sumac. It may very well make the difference between a great moment that you expect to remember and when you would prefer to forget.

If you're hunting or camping you will find private premises to go to IronAim and everything you need to output to the IronAim store.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://ptomainepoisoning.blogspot.com/2011/11/how-not-to-die-part-2-poison-avoiding.html' title='How not to Die! If you live in a hot climate, you could theoretically get poison ivy throughout the year. It is important to know what looks like a poison ivy plant so that you do accidentally walk by a patch of it. Similarly, you should know what poison and poison sumac are similar so that you may not be sumac and poison sumac.

Poison ivy is also called toxicodendron radicans and is a plant which grows in temperate climates. When it grows it grows to approximately one to two feet of soil and leaves are green in color when it is summertime. The leaves are a form of the ordinary elongated leaves that comes in groups of three to a branch. When you see this classic cluster of three leaves, assume it is poison ivy and stay away from her.

In the fall, the leaves turn brown like any other leaf, but it can be toxic. The toxin is an oily substance that can survive in cold climates. Avoid the leaves, even if they are brown. Wear gloves if you try to remove the plants from an area and wash right gloves after use so that you may not be the oily toxin on your body.

Poison ivy must be distinguished from poison, although both can give you a rash. In fact, the poison ivy, poison sumac and poison contain the same toxin called urushiol. It is the oily substance that your body comes in contact with and gives you the rash. Sumac also comes in three with the average leaf leaves on a larger stalk. Poison ivy is similar to poison oak, sumac can grow higher than poison ivy.

Poison sumac has leaves in a row of leaflets, paired with a brochure at the end of the stem. Poison sumac leaves often have black spots on it which contain heavy amounts of urushiol. This is what happens when the urushiol contact with air.

Poison ivy may grow in a form of vine, beware of three leaves of vines. Sumac is a shrub which has leaves resembling oak but entering three as mentioned. Poison sumac may also be a small plant resembling trees or may be a shrub. All the leaves of these plants turn yellow or red in the fall before turning brown.

Urushiol can come into contact with your skin and can cause a rash in a few seconds to reach the plant. This is why you must stay away from the plant in total. Takes approximately 12 to 72 hours before the allergic reaction to urushiol begins and the severe itching, redness, localized swelling and bulbs start to appear. The spread of the rash just when you thought eruption or can spread because it is an allergic reaction that often spreads anyway.

How to make a Sandwich of Fried Bologna

My father was born in Escatawpa, Ms he was a pilot and General hand for a gent Italian old in Biloxi, Ms as a result, it could galvanise spicy medium spaghetti, chicken Fricassee sauce or a big pot of red beans. For a sandwich at lunch, it's white bread, of Bologna, mayonnaise and lettuce and tomato.

I taught my children how to make these sandwiches. Set apart that it is a pure and absolute discomfort, who can face the public carrying of red, stifle rashes and blisters around their skin? Poison ivy rash can be a frightening and leaves many people asking the question, is poison ivy contagious? The truth is, there are many ways that a person can obtain this particular eruption, even if it is not transferred from human contact.

A poison ivy rash is caused by urushiol of the plant, which, when coming into contact with the skin, severe skin rash. The rash can be translated by red spots or blisters, sometimes concentrated in a single region or across several of the different parts of the body. Given this look frightening, it is easy to understand why most people believe that it is contagious. However, fluid light bulbs and rash does spread it, only the oil from the plant. The reason for which the rash appear to spread in different parts of the body of the person is because their skin comes into contact with elements that can be carriers of urushiol. This can be clothing, tools or simply coming into contact with the leaves of the plant. It can also come from the nails of any person or animal fur. If you're hiking or are bare-legged, and you get cuts or scratches of plants, with open wounds can cause the poison to spread much more quickly that he would do with a single contact. Juice of roots, in cases where the plant was cut, without a doubt will lead to a strong reaction. Sometimes, even breathing the smoke of a fire with burning poison ivy plants can cause a severe reaction. Some people, however, appear to be immune even after exposure to the poison. This may change, however, and these immune to it in the past may lose their resistance to it with age or time.

As there are a number of ways the poison spreads, there are also several ways that the rash can be repaired, while poison ivy rashes are usually three weeks more than a month to be completely healed, depending on the severity. Eager is a plant which is highly thought to be a good cure for the poison ivy rash, relieving the skin of the sensations of burning and itching.

Not scrape some more - prevent the spread of poison and dogs to humans Ivy

Bay California buckeye, live coast and black oak and Bigleaf provide cover. In the undergrowth you might see honeysuckle, toyon, coffee maker, Snowberry, and lot of sumac. This is the description of the last stage of a beautiful hike that my husband and I took the end of April with our dog Jade and dog my parents Shana. I want to emphasize is the last remnant of the last sentence of the description and many poison. In my opinion, the description should read something in the line of sumac is abundant on this track, dotted with the occasional Maple, honeysuckle, sumac, coffeberry, sumac, black and of course oak, sumac. In other words, do try this part of the ride unless you and your dog are completely recessed in impenetrable Cotte.

The track itself has been maintained in fact quite well, so unless poison oil actually keep off the coast of the plant on my body, I was fairly confident that I could avoid the plants by pasting in the Centre of the track. What worried me most was the dogs. Jade, my 6 year Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, does not exclude defined hiking trails (unless there is something to really, really dead and really, really smelly to go study). Shana, my old parents of 3 year cotton of Tulear, is the opposite. It does not remain on hiking trails. I consider putting leaves for the portion of the trail sumac, but knowing Shana and leashes, I suspect that all that would happen is that Shana manage always wrap the leaves around my legs and I to try to untangle myself, fall directly into the same poison, I was trying to avoid.

If you live and walk anywhere in the United States, the chances are good that you and your pets will meet with Sumac, poison ivy or more rarely, poison sumac. When brush pets against poison oak (or poison ivy), if you live in the coast is oil transfers the plant on their skin. Pets can then transfer that oil to their human owners without the slightest bit themselves affected

Knowing this, the scenario playing in my head was as follows: Shana decides to study who knows that trail. Shana brushes against each sumac plant within a radius of two miles (a very plausible situation based on the natural curiosity of Shana and the amount of poison on the runway). We return to the car. Shana forgets that she knows how jumping soil in his body in the car (note, it is extremely capable of jumping on its fund when we are leaving to go walk, it was only after the return journey his memory mysteriously fails him). When I choose Shana until placed in the car, oil transfers its fur to my skin - and twenty four hours later, I have a rash of sumac raging. Given that hiking, I learned that are very easy steps, you can take to help prevent the spread of your pet you poison or ivy.

Assuming that you are not ready to renounce the hiking and your dogs are not ready to give up playing games of chase in the fields of sumac/poison ivy poison sumac covered, you never need hiking or camping without carrying a bottle of Original Tecnu outdoor cleaning of the skin. Tecnu (and indeed, I am in no way affiliated with this company - I am simply someone who has used and liked this product) is a cleaner that, when used within 2 to 8 hours after exposure to poison oak, poison ivy or poison sumac, can remove oil urushiol (it is oil that creates the rash and cause itch you like crazy) before the start of the rash. After the eruption began, washed with Tecnu assistance to deletes any free oil on your skin for the natural healing process begin without possible re-contamination.

The best part is that Tecnu cleaner can be used on anything--including pets. Decontamination of your dog, saturate a cloth with Tecnu and wipe your dog coat. Then follow with a shampoo and bath water for pets. This last step is extremely important. Do not leave Tecnu on your dog fur. It should be washed completely with shampoo and water. I also recommend that you follow bath your dog with a shower of your own using the Tecnu as a cleaner. Happy hiking!

PET poisoning prevention: is your hazardous home for your pet?

PET poisoning prevention: is your hazardous home for your pet It might be if you do not know what to monitor. Many things found commonly around our homes is fatal for animals. Did you know that grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs That garlic and onions are toxic to cats It is true. Also simple articles than chocolate, coffee, and even apple seeds can be fatal if ingested by your pet. In this article, we discuss how to prevent pet poisoning and what to do if you think that you pet had been poisoned.

Poison prevention

The best method of poison prevention is knowledge. Know what elements are dangerous to your pet and if you have one of these in your home. Many organizations such as the world of cat and the ASPCA maintain lists of common household items that are toxic to pets. Here are some steps commonly recommended to prevent pet poisoning.

Keep prescription drugs and over-the-counter beyond the reach of your pets. Vitamins, painkillers, medicines cold, etc. can be lethal for animals, even at low doses. Be aware of the plants you have in and around your home. Azalea, Laurier rose, lily of Easter and many other plant species can be fatal if ingested. Make sure that your pets will not on the lawns or gardens treated with fertilizers, insecticides, etc., until they have dried completely. Always store these products there where they are inaccessible to your pets. If you are unsure on any product, consult your veterinarian. Be aware of the antifreeze leaking your car. It has a sweet taste and only a small amount of ingestion can cause the death of an animal. Consider using antifreeze products respectful of animals that use propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol. Be aware of your products for pets, particularly those containing pesticides as flea control products. Many of these products are not interchangeable and can be deadly if used on species wrung. If a product is only for dogs, it must never be used on cats and vice versa. The use of the rat poison bait, or ant/roach traps, place products in the areas that are inaccessible to your pet. Some bait contains soft nauseating ingredients such as butter peanut and sugar which can attract your pet.
What to do if you suspect poisoning

If you are in doubt if a product is toxic, call immediately to a veterinarian. The first minutes of poisoning are critical if never wait for signs of development to get professional advice. Poison treatment success requires immediate action and several antidotes must be within 12 hours of ingestion of toxin. I recommend that you call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (1-888-4-ANI-help). immediately and head to your veterinarian as soon as possible. If possible, always bring a container to the veterinarian so that the ingredients can be correctly identified.

The doctor who takes your call to the ASPCA is specially trained in the treatment of poison and has access to extensive database of the ASPCA for treatment of poison information. They will be poison in research question and provide you with immediate corrective action to take. At the end of your call, the ASPCA doctor will give you a case number. Don't forget to note your case number. Your veterinarian will use your case number to come into contact with the doctor who was treating your pet and to discuss the information that they have on the poison in question.

Frequently your veterinarian prescribed 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide at vomit, so it pays keep a bottle aside. But because many chemical products (like gasoline) pose a higher risk for your pet on the way in which the, induce not vomiting unless instructed by a qualified professional.

The bottom line

Can almost always avoid pet poisonings. Remember that the best method of poison prevention is knowledge. Help your pet safe and make diligent efforts to educate yourself.

Authors Note: A call to the ASPCA poison control Centre will cost you $ 45, but it gets your vet for more precise poisoning and the latest available information access. Much of this information is compiled from actual cases and documents of the manufacturers and not found in the medical books of your veterinarian. I have the misfortune to the use of the service once before when my puppy ingested Tylenol. I am pleased to announce that my dog is fine, and even my top notch vet was impressed by how much information the ASPCA doctor had already knew.

Plants that can poison your dog

Dogs love to explore and try the flavours of life they encounter along the way. I believe most of you will also agree that dogs use their mouths to investigate the world around them - tasting, chewing and often consuming the interesting things in their environment. While the consumption of some foods, plants, household chemicals, and other seemingly edible objects may seem initially rewarding to our furry friends, they could be poisonous and thus deadly when ingested.

Unfortunately, dogs do not have the ability to differentiate between what is safe and what is dangerous for them to eat; Thus, thousands of dogs per year unknowingly ingest toxic substances and subsequently poison themselves. In addition, loving dog owners unknowingly provide their pets with poisonous foods as treats (i.e. chocolate) because they lack poison awareness knowledge. This is where you as a professional dog trainer come in.

According to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, 130,000 poison related cases were reported and handled in just 2007 alone. With this many occurrences in only one year, it just makes good sense to add poison awareness to your Dog Trainer's Toolbox.

Poisonous Substances

While the following lists are in no way complete, I have tried to include the most common and most dangerous substances that may be ingested by dogs. Also, be informed that while certain substances are poisonous to dogs and other animals regardless of the amount ingested, other poisonous substances can be tolerated in very small doses based on the amount ingested in relation to the animal's weight. For instance, while chocolate is a widely-known toxin for dogs, a minimum amount of chocolate ingested by a large dog will most likely be filtered through his system without the need for a trip to the veterinarian.

Foods - The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center urges dog owners to avoid feeding the following foods to their pets: alcoholic beverages, baking powder, baking soda, chocolate, coffee, fatty foods, many fruit pits including those of cherries, peaches, avocados, and apricots, avocado, macadamia nuts, moldy or spoiled foods (such as those found in garbage), mushrooms, onions and onion powder, raisins and grapes, salt, yeast dough, garlic, and products containing the artificial sweetener xylitol.

Household products - Common household products can be extremely toxic to canine, such as automobile antifreeze, a liquid that can leak from some motor. The liquid is green in color and sweet to the taste. The dog only needs to lick a small amount of antifreeze off of the street or driveway to become poisoned. Other poisonous household products include cleaners such as Febreeze odor neutralizer, bleach, abrasive cleaners, cleaning solvents, dish washing detergent, laundry detergent, disinfectants, drain cleaner, furniture polish, paint and paint solvents, and more. Even office supplies such as indelible ink, pencils, and pens should be kept in a secure place as these too are toxic when ingested. Personal care items such as hair dye and perfume are dangerous as well.

Medications - Dog owners should consult a veterinarian before administering any type of medication to their canine, especially those that are meant for human consumption. Ibuprofen (Advil), acetaminophen (Tylenol), cold and flu medications and antidepressants are especially dangerous and should be kept out of reach of all pets. Illegal drugs, including marijuana, are also among the lists of poisonous substances.

Insecticides and Pesticides - These chemicals can be particularly attractive and enticing to dogs because they are commonly mixed with tasty food products to make them alluring to the pests they are meant to kill. Rat bait, snail bait, insecticides, moth repellent, and even some flea products are toxic when ingested by dogs and other animals. Some species of animals are especially sensitive to certain types of flea products, so do not use flea products interchangeably between dogs, cats, and other pets. Always consult a veterinarian first and read all instructions and indications.

common household Plants - The list of common household plants that are potentially poisonous to canine is extensive. According to the ASPCA, the 17 most common poisonous plants are as follows: lilies, marijuana, sago palm, tulip/narcissus bulbs, azalea/rhododendron, oleanders, castor bean, cyclamen, kalanchoe, yew, amaryllis, autumn crocus, chrysanthemum, English ivy, peace lilies, pothos, and schefflera. Some other common plants seen in many landscapes that may also be toxic to dogs are aloe vera, birds of paradise, daffodils, honeysuckle, poppies, geraniums, marigolds, oleanders, tomato plants, and many, many more. Seasonal decorative plants such as poinsettia, mistletoe, and Easter lilies should be kept out of reach of all pets. Even fertilizer is considered hazardous if ingested.

Signs, Symptoms, and Prevention

One of the most important aspects of poison awareness is realizing that not all dogs will display external signs of toxin ingestion prior to organ failure and death. Thus, all dog owners should be urged to secure any and all items that are toxic or even potentially toxic. Even dogs who are under constant supervision can find a quick time to lap up a tasty but toxic snack, so prevention is crucial. Safety measures include keeping all food and household chemicals/cleaners in firms that are too high for a dog to reach golden child-proofing cabinets that are within reach, securing trash cans or taking the trash out regularly, especially before leaving the dog unattended in the house, and landscaping appropriately by removing or ruling out any plants that are known as being poisonous to dogs from your garden.

Symptoms of poisoning vary, but may include vomiting, seizures, difficulty breathing, diarrhea, skin allergies, nasal discharge, eye discharge, drooling, lethargy, shaking, weaving, or stumbling. If an owner observed any of these symptoms and purported that the dog may have come into contact with a poison, he/she should contact a veterinarian immediately. Serious symptoms such as seizures call for an emergency trip to the veterinarian, though the veterinarian should be alerted via phone prior to the dog's arrival. The owners should also bring along a sample of the potentially ingested substance or the container in which it was held, if at all possible. The owner should also be advised to contact the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center hotline at (888) 426-4435. The ASPCA may be able to offer advice that can be followed in order to limit or prevent damage to your pet from poisonous substances.

I hope you find this information useful and readily pass it along to all your customers and fellow dog lovers.

Poison first aid

Poison first aid is one of the most confusing areas of first aid. There are too many different types of poison, and they can attack the body in too many ways to make it easy.

Poison of a first aid point of view is any substance that is harmful to the body. Poison can be swallowed, it can get in your eyes, or it can attack the body simply be absorbed by the body through the skin. The first principle of first aid for the Poison is to suspect poison whenever no other obvious culprit is immediately apparent to the patient's condition. This is done by looking around the immediate area of the patient for any indication of poison as a container or a bottle of pills. Alternatively, you can be alert for odour or signs of a foreign substance in your initial evaluation of the patient

If you find no evidence of poison, you continue aid based on whatever the symptoms that you observe and get help as quickly as possible. If you do not find evidence, you can continue with the first aid of Poison. The actions you take will depend on how the poison attacks the body. If it has been swallowed, and that the patient is conscious and able to swallow, give approximately 2 ounces of water and call the poison control center at a time. Induce vomiting not and give Ipecac syrup without that be told him to do so by the poison control centre or doctor physician.

It is hoped that the number to a poison control centre is available. It should be part of a first aid kit. When you call the poison control centre, you should have the container in your hand to be able to quickly give what information is requested. Although the Ipecac syrup is another good to have in your first aid kit, it is necessary to wait until you have the permission to use it. This is because some substances, such as acids, can affect all come as they have been down and must be neutralized in the stomach.

If the poison is in the eye, it is necessary to flush the eyes with a large amount of water. It is preferable if the water is lukewarm, but if it is not possible, the cold water will be. Should rinse the eye for at least ten minutes. Poison on the skin should also be emptied with large quantities of water and the area should be washed with SOAP, if possible.

Poison may also be inhaled. If this is the case, remove patient to fresh air as soon as possible. When this is not possible, at least to ventilate the area and possible to avoid inhaling fumes additional. The General principles of first aid for poison are not to panic and call the poison control as soon as possible. Always suspect poison and verification of the evidence. Call as always, to help as soon as possible.

Poison frogs

If you were to come across a poison dart frog you would be probably surprised at the size of these frogs sometimes fatally poisonous. The problem with Poison Ivy, which grows as ground cover and can grow into large bushes, is that it contains an oil - Urushiol - that, when it comes into contact with our skin, causes very dégage blistering and irritation.

It is in our interest to understand that the oil occurs not just in the leaves but in many parts of the plant, including the root and the stem, and it is the immune system reacting against the poison, as it seeps into the skinthat is the instigator of the pain we experience.

Why Poison Ivy is poisonous

It may seem pointless to us that at plant should be poisonous, but like many living things Poison Ivy has its home in the ecosystem. The way it grows is a clue as it gives shelter for lower growing plants and ground dwelling animals, and the majority of these are, unlike humans, not affected by the oil.

Also, Poison Ivy berries that are an important foodstuff supplies for a number of bird species.

How to know the symptoms and more about Urushiol oil.

The patient will very quickly undergo irritation in the skin, mixed with severe itching and inflammation in the concerned area. The skin will become discoloured and a burning sense will occur, and in a short span blisters will form along with the rash.

Suffering can persist for many weeks but may be gone within days, and an individual case is different. It is suggested that cooling the skin is a good antidote and also prevents further infection.

There are a number of important facts that people need to understand about Urushiol oil, and the first is that it is very potent indeed. Research has displayed that quantity of the oil the size of a pin-head could spread to 500 people, and as it is not a water based substance it will not evaporate.

The latter problem presents a major difficulty as it means the oil can stick to on items it has been in contact with for as long as, and maybe longer than a year. This gives us the possibility of re-infection, or of a person who has not been in contact with the plant being contaminated. Clothes, shoes, tools and pets can all be party to the oil, and the very small amounts necessary to cause suffering give it greater potency.

Gloves and coats, as well as boots, are among the most obvious causes of Poison Ivy infection and should be disinfected thoroughly if contamination is suspected.

How anyone can become infected

There are many ways that an individual can come into contact with the oil from Poison Ivy, and transfer from preciously contaminated clothing and other items is one way as we have already noted.

The reason that we suffer when having been contaminated by the oil is because of the natural reaction it promotes, and it is notable that direct contact with the plant is not imperative to induce a reaction.

If Poison Ivy is burned the smoke is contaminated with vaporised oil, and even coming into contact with this smog can induce an attack. It has been said that a 100 year old plant once affected a person, an indication of how dangerous the plant can be.

Anything that has been in contact with the sap of the plant has to be avoided, therefore, and animals kept away from Poison Ivy bushes.

How to deal with a sufferer of a Poison Ivy reaction

It is essential that treatment is initiated immediately, and the best method is to wash the affected area in warm water. A sensitive recommendation is to use a very powerful antimicrobial soap and to do all one can to stop the patient from scratching, as this will spread the disorder ever more.

It is recommended to open the blisters, too, and to bring the area of infection exposure to the air. Keeping blisters bandaged is vital in order not to add infection.

Remember that it is simply the oil that will allow the infection to spread, so contact with it should be treated with caution.

The condition will, at some point, clear up completely, but there are treatments available for the irritation and for the worst reactions. It is the domain of the individual whether to let it die naturally or to look for further help. Some of us are fortunate in that they have no sensitivity to Poison Ivy, but these are rare and most of us would be infected by coming into contact with the bush.

Natural if one finds Poison Ivy the best advice one can give is the most - avoid it very carefully and don't let your pet near it.

Poison Ivy brings painful memories

Poison Ivy Just the mention of the name brings painful memories for millions of people who have had encounters with this vicious pest. It is the source of perhaps more serious discomfort and suffering than any other a plant, with the exception perhaps of ragweed, which causes the hay. All parts of the plant of poison ivy, stems, roots, berries, leaves, are toxic throughout the entire year.

Poison ivy shows several forms. Some plants can be 6 to 15 inches tall, bushy or shrub, other three to six metres high, climbing shrub way on fence posts. Others still assume a growth of the vine like and up to 30 or 40 feet. The growth of plants and leaves show too much diversity, but the final results of contact are always the same painful irritation to the skin of the vulnerable.

Some examples of harm brought to my attention in the last year or so will show the wickedness of poison ivy. Boy young neighbour accompanied his father went on a fishing trip and unknowingly communicated with the plant on the shore of a river. Followed by infection and then came a secondary infection of the lymph glands. The boy spent a week painful at the hospital and recovered only after much suffering, misery and costs.

Another family, on his return from a picnic beside a Lake, mis developed dermatitis and an audit proved the home, that they had used was located in a lot of small, discrete sumac. A dentist with a full schedule of appointments weekend pruned the PRIVET hedge that unknown him contained plants half a dozen of poison ivy. A few days later, he had a severe irritation on the hands and arms. Appointments were to be set aside for four weeks. On two occasions a girl left for a summer camp, to return to each time after two or three days with poison ivy, contracted in all places, much used roads of the camp.

A young couple, after the purchase of a house in a new addition, statement of some early in the spring, before evergreen trees thins began to develop. After the work of digging holes and packaging of dirt around the new evergreen trees, each of them got a bad case of ivy poisoning. They had unwittingly planted trees with Evergreen right through a patch of small dormant poison ivy. Hundreds of people are affected each year because they clean the infected premises and destroy the Recycle Bin. The heat from the fire volatilizes the poison, which in turn is transported on soot particles in the smoke and deposited on the skin in concentrated form. And no pet animals such as dogs or cats, which can walk using spots of ivy. You can transfer the poison to your skin.

Preventive medication help prior to exposure. Shower immediately after exposure with strong laundry and warm water also helps. But the best prevention is to know the plant and to stay away from her. "He be let three, the leaflets" is an axiom good.

Now for the repair. Before leaving for trip outdoors, be positive, you know what poison ivy looks like. Completely avoid it if you can. Poison ivy is a "natural" in the areas of timber-framed. Stay on the regular paths in parks. This is not always protection 100%, since some public parks and camps of allow poison ivy even along much frequented. Guardians of areas such as never should ignore the existence of poison ivy and make no attempt to do something about it.

Remember, when eradication measures are to be undertaken, that only people known to be relatively non-susceptible to the poison of the plant should be called upon to do the work. Working slowly on a day so that sweat you not cool. You are more likely to be infected when the skin pores are open. Make sure that all equipment and clothing worn during the work are carefully washed with soapy water warm. Use a strong detergent. Don't use detergents. Alkali in washing neutralizes the toxic principle of the ivy. Wash several times under a hot shower (not hot) with many solid laundry. If poison ivy is a poison, it is the inverse of the African violet. It can be called African Violet virus , but the truth is African Violet are hosts of the virus which has, therefore, need to care so much.

Don't use oily soap, because they spread the poison. If minor infections develop, repeated washing at Epsom will help salt solution or strong baking soda (two tablespoons to a cup of water). There are also prepared for use on the market.

Don't forget that most cases of poison ivy irritation, regardless of the small, belong in the hands of a doctor who can usually prevent secondary infections much more serious that often follow. Those who must work in areas that contain ivy, should see their doctor about preventive or improvement "shots" to make them less susceptible to poisoning.
