Cops is a 1922 American two-reel silent comedy film about a young man (Buster Keaton) who accidentally gets on the bad side of the entire Los Angeles Police Department during a parade and is chased all over town. It was written and directed by Edward F. Cline and Keaton.

This very Kafka-esque film was filmed during the rape-and-murder trial of Fatty Arbuckle, a circumstance that may have influenced the short’s tone of hopeless ensnarement. Even though the central character’s intentions are good, he cannot win, no matter how inventively he tries. He gets into various scraps with police officers throughout the film. Eventually, he unwittingly throws a bomb into a police parade and ends up being chased by a horde of cops.

Hell’s Bells is a 1929 comedy horror animated short film directed by Ub Iwerks and produced by Walt Disney. It was distributed to cinemas by the film company Columbia Pictures, who would also distribute other Walt Disney films such as Winter. The film follows Satan and the other devils’ happenings in Hell. One of these devils revolts against Satan and ends up kicking him off the cliff of Hell. The short is part of short film series Silly Symphonies.

The film score features a variety of classical compositions, including “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg, which is used near the end of the film as one of the demons kicks Satan off the cliff. Another is “Funeral March of a Marionette” by French composer Charles Gounod, which is also known as the theme tune to the television series “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”. The opening theme of Felix Mendelssohn’s “Hebrides” overture is also heard.

Colonel Bleep is a 1957 American animated TV series which was the first color cartoon series made for television. It was created and written by Robert D. Buchanan and Jack Schleh on June 8, 1956, and was animated by Soundac, Inc. of Miami.

The show was originally syndicated on September 21, 1957, as a segment on Uncle Bill’s TV Club. One hundred episodes, of varying length of between three and six minutes each, were produced. Of these episodes, 45 episodes are known to exist in some form, eight of which are only available in monochrome.

Bubbling Over is a 1934 American musical comedy short film directed by Leigh Jason.

Plot:
Samson Peabody is the janitor in an apartment building where he and his wife Ethel live with a large crowd of Samson’s freeloading relatives. When more relatives come to stay, Ethel throws them out. A scheming occupant of the building reads Samson’s mail and poses as a clairvoyant predicting the events of the letter; the arrival of Samson’s rich Uncle for dinner. However, the Uncle is a penniless lunatic (imagining himself to be The Emperor Jones) and a pickpocket. He steals the chicken of the dinner, several watches of the guests, the clairvoyant’s crystal ball and in the final scene, all the clothes of the people in the room.

Here Comes Tobor (1956) was a proposed American science-fiction television series, meant as a spin-off off the 1954 film Tobor the Great. It was produced for the 1956–1957 season. However, the project was not aired and only a pilot episode was filmed.

Tobor (‘Robot’ spelled backwards) was a nine-foot-tall robot that had come into the control of the U.S. government. In Here Comes Tobor, Tobor is owned by Professor Bruce Adams (played by Arthur Space) and mind-controlled by Adam’s nephew Tommy (Tommy was played by Tommy Terrell although Billboard erroneously stated at the time that eleven-year-old actor Tiger Fafara had been cast for the role). Tommy is, in the series, able to control Tobor through an ESP detector. Moreover, his IQ is supposedly the highest ever registered. Bruce Cowling was also cast for a role.

Sing a Song of Six Pants is a 1947 short film starring American slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Shemp Howard). It is the 102nd short film released by Columbia Pictures starring the trio. The comedians released 190 short films for the studio between 1934 and 1959.

Plot:
The Stooges run a tailor shop that is about to be repossessed by the Skin and Flint Finance Corporation. When the Boys hear about a big reward for fugitive bank robber Terry “Slippery Fingered” Hargan (Harold Brauer), they think that catching him might end their financial woes. Hargan conveniently ducks into their shop as the officer (Vernon Dent) enters and leaves a suit with a safe combination in its pocket. After his girlfriend (Virginia Hunter) fails to retrieve the combination, Hargan returns with his henchmen, and a wild mêlée follows. The Stooges miss out on the reward but wind up with the crook’s bankroll to pay off their debts.

The Dentist is a 1932 American Pre-Code comedy short, starring W. C. Fields. The film is one of four short films Fields made with the “king of comedy,” Mack Sennett, at Paramount. Although Sennett was near the end of his career, he found good use of the new medium of talking pictures for comedy, as the film demonstrates. It was directed by Leslie Pearce from a script by Fields himself. The film has been released on VHS and DVD.

Plot:
Fields plays a hot-tempered dentist who terrorizes his patients, who verbally/physically abuses his assistants and golfing-caddies alike, and whose daughter desires to marry an ice-delivery man. Fields disapproves of this match, especially after the starry-eyed daughter attempts to elope with her lover. Fields locks his daughter in her upstairs bedroom which is located above his dental office, where she proceeds to stamp her feet, causing plaster chunks to fall as he attempts to treat his patients. Various patients with unusual physical traits (a tall “horse”-faced woman, a tiny, heavily-bearded man [Fields is obliged to use a stethoscope to locate the man’s mouth]) arrive at the office, and he attempts to use his dental drill on them without any apparent pain killer. With one of his patients (Elise Cavanna), he engages in an intimate wrestling match as he attempts to extract a painful tooth. Eventually the ice-delivery man procures a tall ladder and aids the dentist’s daughter to escape from her dormitory window. Fields observes the lovers just as they are prepared to run off, and — under pressure from the sizable crowd that has gathered at the foot of the ladder — grudgingly withdraws his opposition to the match. The film ends with Fields — who had previously threatened to purchase an electric refrigerator instead of ordering ice each day — contemptuously ordering his now-future-son-in-law to deliver “fifty pounds of ice, and be quick about it”, prompting the daughter to joyfully embrace her fiance.

Electric Earthquake (1942) is the seventh of seventeen animated Technicolor short films based upon the DC Comics character of Superman, originally created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster. This animated short was created by the Fleischer Studios.

The story runs for about eight minutes and covers Superman’s adventures in stopping a madman from destroying Manhattan with electronically induced earthquakes. It was originally released on May 15, 1942. This is the first of the films to make it clear that the action is taking place in Manhattan.

The Devil to Pay! is a 1930 American pre-Code romantic drama film directed by George Fitzmaurice and starring Ronald Colman, Frederick Kerr, Myrna Loy and Loretta Young. It was written by Frederick Lonsdale and Benjamin Glazer.

Constance Cummings was originally cast in the female lead but was replaced because her American accent was too strong for the British setting. Goldwyn also replaced original director Irving Cummings after two weeks because he was unhappy with the standard of production.

Doughboys is a 1930 American Pre-Code comedy film starring Buster Keaton. It was Keaton’s second starring talkie vehicle and has been called Keaton’s “most successful sound Picture.”

Keaton had creative input in Doughboys, which was partly inspired by his own experience in World War I. Although the writers kept inserting puns and verbal jokes into the script, Keaton insisted that his dialogue, at least, be less “jokey.” Keaton felt that Doughboys was the best of the films he made for MGM.

The Musketeers of Pig Alley is a 1912 American short drama and a gangster film. It is directed by D. W. Griffith and written by Griffith and Anita Loos. It is also credited for its early use of follow focus, a fundamental tool in cinematography.

The film was released on October 31, 1912 and re-released on November 5, 1915 in the United States. The film was shot in Fort Lee, New Jersey where many other early film studios in America’s first motion picture industry were based at the beginning of the 20th century. Location shots in New York City reportedly used actual street gang members as extras during the film.

Daydreams is a 1922 American short comedy film directed by and featuring Buster Keaton. The film is most famous for a scene where Keaton finds himself on the inside of a riverboat paddle wheel.

Plot:
Buster wants to marry a girl, but her father disapproves. Therefore Keaton vows he will go the city and get a job, or commit suicide. He takes several jobs (janitor, employee in an animal hospital, street cleaner, extra in a theatrical play,…) which all disastrously go wrong. In the final scenes he gets stuck inside a riverboat paddle wheel, where he has to run to get out of it. In the end he returns to his girlfriend’s father, but since he failed in every way he is given a gun to shoot himself. Buster however manages to miss himself and is therefore kicked out the window by the girl’s father.
