While initial sketches and even some painting was done outside, the majority of the work was completed in-doors. Using acrylics in a hot climate necessitates a return to this method of working, and thanks to the technology that is now at our disposal contemporary artists can avoid prolonged spells in an inhospitable climate and work in the relative comfort of the studio. While some purists may argue that an artist should only work from their own sketches and drawings, those who are willing to embrace the digital camera will find that the opportunities to capture scenes and images are limitless. Spending seconds rather than long minutes making detailed sketches, a 21st century artist can capture the essence of the scene before them and return to the studio with an album of photographs upon which they can base their next painting. If necessary these photographs can be manipulated with appropriate software until exactly the right image is found, and at this point you are ready to make a painting.

1. Measure your stretched canvas and square it up. You will not want too many lines across your work so it is probably advisable to limit the squares to about 6cm (about 2.5 inches).

2. Re-size your image to match the proportions of the canvas, and either square it up on the screen or print it out and use a pencil to do the same.

3. Using charcoal or a soft pencil, sketch the image onto the canvas. The squares will help you to get the proportions right. It is the broad shapes that you want to capture so don't worry about the detail at this stage.

4. Give the whole canvas a quick spray of fixative (or perfume-free hairspray) to prevent image loss as you go into the next stage.

5. Study your image carefully and decide on the over-all colour (this will be provide the mid-tones in your painting).

6. Using plenty of water and your chosen colours make a wash. Apply to the whole canvas with a large brush. The wash needs to be thin enough to see your sketch showing through.

7. As soon as the wash has been applied you need to quickly work over the whole canvas with a damp cloth, removing the paint from all highlighted areas. Use your sketch and the photograph as guides, and ensure that this has been done within 5 to 10 minutes; otherwise the wash will have dried too much.

8. It is now time to apply the shadow to the canvas. Using a thinned mixture of ultramarine and burnt umber apply the paint with either a thick brush or, if you have the confidence, another rag. Again you need to work quickly and over the whole canvas. Don't be tempted to concentrate on details and don't worry if you make mistakes (quickly rub the paint away with a damp cloth). When you stand back from the canvas at this stage you will see an impressive image before you, even though you have only applied two colours with the crudest of brushes and rags.

9. Once the shadow has dried (a matter of minutes) you can start to consider the mid-tones. The wash will have provided this on the whole, but you now need to think about a bit more detail. Using a slightly thicker mix of the same colours (as the wash) apply some more detail with a mid to large brush. The size of brush is important as it prevents you from concerning yourself with too much detail.

10. At this point you will probably be able to see the squares still showing through so it is now time to think about the next layer of the painting. It is only now that you need to lay out your palette (acrylic paint dries so fast that it would be a wasteful mistake to put your colours out before this point). Your palette needs to be fairly limited as you will be concentrating on a few colours at a time.

11. Note all the places where you need to block in this colour and work over the whole canvas at once. This is important as it ensures that you keep the painting unified. Don't feel tempted to start working on the detail in one particular area at this stage. Your brush should still be mid-sized.

12. Repeat with new colours until you have covered the whole canvas with a new layer. Your wash will still show through in places but the overall impression will be getting closer to the final painting you may have imagined at the start.

13. Now you can start on the detail. With a finer brush work over the whole painting, sharpening edges and tightening the drawing. It is very much up to the individual as to how much detail they may want to include. For a more impressionist style you may consider the painting to be close to completion. Alternatively you might want to achieve a more 'super-realist' finish to the work, in which case you work over the painting several times, with ever increasing detail.

Main points to remember:

1. At each stage work over the whole canvas at once.

2. Avoid starting in one corner and working across the space, as the painting will not have a unified feel.

3. Don't worry if you feel you've made a mistake - you can use a damp cloth to wipe wet acrylic paint away without removing the under-painting. Alternatively you can paint over it within minutes once it is dry.

4. You can use tape and masks to protect areas where you don't want paint to go (this will help with straight lines and sharp edges).

This article makes the assumption that you already have an eye for composition and some basic painting skills; if this isn't the case, I will be writing articles on these things in the near future.

Links to images to follow in the near future.

Investment in Art

Investment in Art
by Peter Jhons

We are quite familiar with the term 'investment'. We are also aware about different investment catalogs. But apart from USA, there are only a few nations where investment in art is a common practice. Time has really changed. In recent context, we have seen many an auction even where non Americans have shown immense interest in antique art pieces. Undoubtedly, it is perfect time for online platform like 'artpricechart' which will definitely leverage this trend and the whole world will recognize latent potential of art pieces. We are getting absolute signal which depicts that Investment trend in art will exponentially prevail.

It is quite soothing to hear the term like 'creative industries' for all art lovers and for the people who are interested in buying or selling art. As an artist, normally we think that our future will solely depend upon commercial galleries. Though, such practices have become inexact as well as self limiting. Well! Reasons are so obvious that such galleries can not be accessible by everyone. On the hand, we have mentioned the term 'self limiting' because such galleries can not be residence of all those artists who want to exhibit their art works. So, we have seen a new trend 'art online'.

Galleries on World Wide Web are also known as 'neo-galleries'. Irrespective geographical and political domain every art lover can find here specific place for every art work like Decorated Pottery, Photography, Sculpture, Drawing and so on. It is a burning question for every aspirant artist "how do i get into a gallery?" Though, exponentially prevailing cyber space may be an answer but opportunity may be anywhere so keep your options open all the time. Even in that context, 'artpricechart' be proved as the best helping hand. Here you will get information about events undoubtedly 'a door of opportunity'.

In experts' opinion, heterogeneity of artwork and infrequency of trading are two biggest hurdle of art commerce. But World Wide Web has realized this concern and offered few fabulous online platforms where one can experience a whole new world of art commerce. There is one more aspect of art commerce which draws a delicate line between bourgeois world of arts and popular world of electronic media (TV, Radio, etc.). World Wide Web has almost eliminated this line. Probably, this is the greatest achievement of cyber space. An Article by 'James E. Pesando' states-

'In a well-functioning capital market, the risk-adjusted rates of return on all assets will be forced to equality. The equilibrium return on art, net of insurance and storage costs and any flow of consumption services, will equal the equilibrium return on competing assets with identical risk. If this is not the case, then art is an investment which compares 'favorably or unfavorably' with traditional financial assets.'

Probably, these are amongst the most precise words which explores aesthetic limitation of art.

Canvas Art - How to print photos to Canvas?

Canvas Art - How to print photos to Canvas?
by Canvasdezign

Canvas art is nothing but the art of working with a canvas cloth. A canvas is a strong coarse piece of cloth used especially for painting and other art works. Canvas photo printing is a new technology in photography in which an image - a digital one or a photo is transferred onto a canvas by printing on them using latest and much specialised inkjet printers.

Photographs stand the testimonies of the wonderful moments one has lived in one's life with their loved and dear ones. It would represent the wonderful occasions of our life like the day we graduated, wedding, the entry of first child, its first toddling walk, speech, memorable trips holidayed, etc; These moments will never come back in one's life and hence treasured for the rest of our life. So, how can we let such a facet of our life to fade away or be stacked as one among the other papers? That's really unbearable. This is the reason why people consider transforming their photographs to canvas.

Digital photographs are the latest in the field of photography. They have high definition of the pictures captured and ensured long lasting life for the photo. Digital photographs too were professional in their quality. But all these features were made even more professional and interesting with the advent of combining canvas art with photo printing.

Photos onto canvas were made with high quality printer inks and it improved the look and feel of the photographs printed. These photos onto canvas were more professional in their appearance and appealing too. Photos onto Canvas have a long life when compared to other ones. They can last for a century. Modern photos onto canvas can even be safe from the UV rays of sun. Thus, it makes it very common and most appealing in wall hangings and especially that of a banners or hoardings posted in the public.

To print them

The canvas which is used in printing photos is made of pure cotton A photo that needs to be printed on a canvas is first converted into a digital image by scanning the photo, if it is in non-digital form. Before saving this image and submitting it for printing, work on the image for its resolution and image quality. Preview the final print several times and ensure that the photo is properly aligned and other printing requirements are met. Customization of the image is possible at this stage and should be best used for flawless print of the photo to canvas. The photo chosen for canvas printing should be chosen carefully as the quality of it will be reflected in the photo on canvas.

Tanjore Paintings

Tanjore Paintings
by Amit Beriwal

Tanjore has been the hub of all sort of cultural activities. From ancient pots of Greece and Egypt, until Murano vases.

History of vases. From ancient pots of Greece and Egypt, until Murano vases.
by mauro

Vases are one of the most ancient kind of art. The vases are usual composed by the same parts: foot, the lower part, body, the central, and most important part of the vase, the neck, where the vase is more squeezed, the shoulder where body meet neck, and in finally the lips, the higher part. We can divide the vases in two different types: the first one are the pots that have specific usefulness, and the second one are the vases that not have a specific role, but are created only for decorating the environment. In the first one category we can talk about pots like Alabastron, used in the ancient World, especially in Greece and Egypt, for holding perfume or oil. Another kind of vase is called Amphora, a ceramic or terracotta pot with two handles, used to transport wine, oil, fish sauce, jam, honey, and more. The first Amphora is appeared in 15th century Before Christ on Syrian coast. Another kind of pot is Situla, iron vase that have the shape of a bucket. The Situla was diffused in Iron Age populations, like Etruscan, Celts, and Germanic cultures. In modern age we have a differents kinds of vases, but the most spread are the ornamental pots. In this category are very spread the glass pots. The most famous are probably the decorated vases of Murano, created with technique of blowing glass. This kind of pots does not have a specific role, but they are really beautiful. For this reason are used to decorate the environment and especially the important rooms. Glass is product created from silicon mixtures (quartz, sand, sodium, iron, calcium, and more). To create coloured glass, the artisan add some metallic oxides for different colors.Cobalt for blue, Copper for red, and so on. Glass and vases production of Murano has not changed during the centuries. Nowadays there aren't new techniques to make the special glass of Murano: the result depends most of all on the expertise and the artistic skills of the glass artisan.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://artmagpie.blogspot.com/2009/09/history-of-vases-from-ancient-pots-of.html' title='History of vases. A screenplay, for all its clear descriptions of where characters are and what they say, has to work hard to meet the dramatic immediacy that we expect from films. 1. Stick To The Present Tense Writing in the present tense helps, keeping the text direct and different from the prose you'll find in most novels or short stories. 2. Add Sound Effects Sound effects can be effectively replicated on the page, using onomatopoeia such as BANGS for gunshots and SCREAMS of characters in danger. 3. Keep It Tight Keeping the whole script tight is one of the best ways to capture the in-your-face nature of a modern movie. Concise dialogue and snappy scene descriptions will help you to avoid a novel's tone. 4. Write Pictures Thinking visually is the most important part of the process. Writers are not always inclined to 'talk in pictures', creating images on the page. By cultivating a visual eye, you can create a script that's written to be SEEN, not just read. Just as in any form of writing, those images will jump out at the readers and stay in their minds. Screenplays just happen to be the most image-driven of all forms of writing. Start looking, recording dreams, taking notes. Get hold of a camera - still, video, film, whatever you can get your hands on - and look through the viewfinder. You don't have to stop loving words to start thinking in pictures, so get in the habit of finding appropriate pictures. When you're writing your script, take every opportunity you can to tell your story using those kinds of images, ones that resonate with you and your characters. What most people don't realize is that while the really impressive tricks you see on television seem difficult or mysterious, the fact of the matter is that all you need to do is practice, practice, and practice some more. But where do you find out how to do the great tricks like you see on television or on stage? Unfortunately, most of those tricks are custom created by the artist. The good news is that there are pretty impressive tricks out there for the taking, and all you have to do is give them a go.

One of the first places you'll want to look to find out how to do magic tricks is the Internet. You're here, aren't you? The Internet is full of great websites teeming with information on how to perform simple tricks and how to practice the techniques you need to perform them. You can even go to any video sharing website and search for magic trick secrets and you're likely to find some fairly nice tricks, explained in detail, and all right in front of you. The downside to this method is that you can search for literally hours before you find the really golden information that will help you get on your way to magician status. Search websites that are aimed at magic trick enthusiasts rather than broader video sites, and you'll be more likely to meet with success.

Another great source for how to do magic tricks is hobby shops or magic shops. While there may not be one in every city, there is generally one somewhere near major metropolitan areas or places where there is a thriving arts community. But enough where to learn magic tricks, let's talk about how to DO magic tricks. The key to most magic tricks is distraction. You have to redirect your audience's attention from what you are doing to what you want them to see. Watch the pros do it on television, and you'll see that every trick involves some form of distraction, from dancing girls to flashing lights and fireworks. It's a cheap way to do it, but it's got to be done.

The other key to successfully performing magic tricks is dexterity. Practice your finger movements as precisely as you possibly can. Sleight of hand is absolutely essential to doing any kind of magic from card and coin tricks to catching bullets (definitely NOT a beginner trick). Of course, all these tips are nothing without practice. If you don't practice, you won't get good. That's a promise. Spend a little time in front of a mirror or doing the tricks in front of friends, and you'll be on your way to magic trick stardom in no time.

2010 Fine Art Collection Exhibited at Decorex Jo'burg

2010 Fine Art Collection Exhibited at Decorex Jo'burg
by John Gardner

Fine art on this scale has never before been licensed for a FIFA World Cup™.

Decorex Joburg will host the 2010 Fine Art Collection as part of the décor and interior design event's 16th annual exhibition. International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations
by Arte Communications

PRESS RELEASE Press conference 2 September 2009 at 2.00 p.m. / Hotel Des Bains Light cocktail 2 September 2009 at 4.00 p.m. / Blue Moon Inauguration cocktail (by invitation only) 2 September 2009 at 7.00 p.m. / Island of San Servolo Open to the public 3 September - 4 October 2009, every day, entry free of charge

OPEN, the International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations, reaches its twelfth edition with a new developing course, an open-air art workshop, where the works themselves are paths that may be followed with the eye or by interaction. Nearly all created specially for the exhibition, the sculptures, installations, photographs and canvases that make up this ideal stream of consciousness are spaces for reflection in which art renews its tension towards the indefinite, eluding form and finiteness, to offer the visitor the possibility of thinking of art free from schemes or thematic set-ups. The event will be held from 2 September to 4 October, in parallel to the 66th Venice International Film Festival, at Venice Lido, and for the second time on the Island of San Servolo. The tree-lined avenues, the sunny promenade, the terraces and the historic hotels that have hosted Lido's busy cultural life over the years, and the splendid gardens of the Island of San Servolo, filled with memories of their past history, form the background for the works of art and are at the same time spectators of artistic and intercultural movements in which they too are protagonists to a certain extent: the location of the works modifies the observer's perception, filtering the way the spectator interprets them and making OPEN a unique and unrepeatable event. Conceived and curated by Paolo De Grandis, jointly organised by Carlotta Scarpa and Arte Communications, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Venice City Council, the exhibition has been awarded the Silver Shield of the President of the Republic and is held under the patronage of the Italian Ministry of the Cultural Heritage, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Veneto Region, the Province of Venice and Venice City Council.

OPEN's success over the years has been marked by the presence of numerous curators who have brought to the exhibition a research focussing on the latest trends in art and culture on both the national and the international scene. Among the innovations, there is the participation of Christos Savvidis, director of Artbox, art director of Art Athina and curator of Poets Machine in the 53th Venice Biennale, who will curate artists from the Mediterranean area with site-specific artworks. A platform for comparison and collaboration, such as that proposed by Anna Caterina Bellati who returns with her dynamic view of Italian art in its many aspects. She has introduced great projects, from works by historic masters to the most recent proposals by promising young artists: the aim is to outline contexts, ways of life and interactive proposals, thus enabling visitors to express their opinions. The successful collaboration with Chang Tsong-Zung, Enrico Pedrini, Nevia Pizzul Capello is continuing, with the new presence of Gertrud Kohler-Aeschlimann, director of Art-St-Urban the prestigious museum of sculpture in Lucerne. The important venture of giving space to new talents in the art world is continuing: this year the Bologna Academy of Fine Arts is participating with a project curated by Massimo Pulini, housed in the striking location of the Island of San Servolo. The intent of the exhibition is not to create a defined scene, enclosed within specific parameters of style, but to establish a dialogue between incompatible elements on the limit between representation and the physical nature of the work. OPEN presents the free soul of contemporary art, midway between new aesthetic themes and eccentric provocations, between irony, theatricality and a playful vocation, to redefine the present day through the eyes of forty-two artists from twelve different countries. Among the protagonists, León Ferrari, who was already awarded with the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, will present an important work in bronze. Also taking part will be the masters Ercole Pignatelli and Ugo Riva, the Indian artist Nataraj Sharma, Andreas Savva with an important site-specific project, Stefano Bombardieri and the Georgian artist Eteri Chkadua. The young Swiss artists Daniel Glaser and Magdalena Kunz who will present a fascinating installation on the terrace of Excelsior Hotel. The opening day will be enlivened by the performance of B.Zarro with his tribute to Mario Schifani. Among the many possible interpretations at this exhibition there is the continuous alternation of sensitivity in imagining contemporary art; there is a fil rouge of collaboration between artists, curators and promoting bodies that share exciting artistic synergies; and the really entrancing interpretation that traces a path through the great skill of all those who have worked to achieve an excellent result when the curtain rises on this art show. The OPEN Prize also reaches its ninth edition. This special prize, coinciding with the 66th Venice International Film Festival, is awarded to a director taking part whose work shows a strong link between the cinema and the figurative arts. Founded by Arte Communication and realised in collaboration with Bellati Editore, this year's prize is a work by the Master Ugo Riva. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Bellati, containing comments by critics, presentations by the authorities and the list of the works on show. Available from the Arte Communications lnfopoint at Lido in Piazzale Bucintoro and in Venice in Riva San Biagio, Castello 2145. A video of the exhibition will also be produced by Maurizio Cesana.

Venice Lido ARGENTINA / León Ferrari CHINA / Lee Sun-Don, Zhao Guanghui CYPRUS / Andreas Savva FINLAND / Hannu Palosuo, Kiba Lumberg FRANCE / Bernard Pourrière GEORGIA / Eteri Chkadua GERMANY / Gabriele Pöhlmann-Grundig, Bertamaria Reetz and Rainer Bonk GREECE / Venia Bechrakis, Aristotelis Deligiannidis, Under Construction INDIA / Nataraj Sharma ITALY / Cosimo Andrisano, B.Zarro, Enrico Benetta, Cristian Biasci, Stefano Bombardieri, Marilù Cattaneo, Andrea Ciampini, Girolamo Ciulla, Marco Cornini, Margherita Michelazzo, Ercole Pignatelli, Ugo Riva, Federica Silvi SWITZERLAND / Heinz Aeschlimann, Daniel Glaser/Magdalena Kunz, Christian Bolt URUGUAY USA / Jorge Misium USA / Fulvia Zambon Island of San Servolo ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI DI BOLOGNA Angelarosa Benevento, Francesco Cossu, Luca Freschi, Laura Guerinoni, Giacomo Lion, Matteo Lucca, Angelo Massaro, Lara Mezzapelle, Fabio Romano, Lucio Terenzi, Linda Vigiani, Davide Vivaldi, Diego Zuelli

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://artmagpie.blogspot.com/2009/09/open-12-international-exhibition-of.html' title='OPEN 12. The same type of art work and the same quality of art work that you can find at a high profile art gallery can be obtained at an online art gallery. However, you will find great savings and convenience by shopping online for canvas oil paintings.

There is no denying the increasing popularity and need for art in the world. You can not enter a hotel, eatery or even the home of a person without seeing some form of art. In fact, the majority of homes in the world features more than 20 pieces of art. These pieces of art could range from whatnots and posters to reproductions or original canvas oil paintings.

The art in most homes is either bought at a local department store or acquired at a flea market or sometimes passed down from one generation to another. However, in recent years the sheer number of online galleries has began to increase as art lovers have begun to realize how affordable artwork can be purchased online. What's more, they have access to a wide variety of paintings for sale from all over the world. With the internet, no more are art lovers restricted to looking for canvas oil paintings at their local art galleries.

In fact, you can save hundreds to thousands of dollars each every year by making all your art purchases online. Online art dealers are able to offer customers much more affordable rates than in person art galleries are able to do. This is because art galleries have to pay the bills for their gallery and have to pass that cost on to their customers.

At online art dealers you can find the same quality canvas oil paintings that you would find at a typical art dealer in person. However, you can shop from the ease and convenience of your home and can save yourself a substantial amount of money on each and every purchase that you make.

One of the most popular types of artwork that is sold at online galleries is canvas oil paintings. Canvas oil paintings are in fact one of the highest sold types of artwork each and every year in the world of art.

Everyone is familiar with canvas oil paintings. There are numerous high profile and historic canvas oil paintings that people will immediately recognize even if they are not an "art snob". One such canvas oil painting is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. This painting is so famous that it has appeared in hundreds of movies and has been mentioned in thousands of books throughout history.

When it comes to paintings for sale, canvas oil paintings are by and far one of the most popular and sought after types of artwork in the world. An estimated 3 out of every 5 homes in the world features some type of oil painting. Whether these are original oil paintings or prints of popular and historic canvas oil paintings.

Modern art on canvas you can pass on to the next generation.

Modern art on canvas you can pass on to the next generation.
by Alice Brooks

Buying canvas paintings these days is seen as a rarity since more and more people are opting for the cheaper replicas of original paintings that are printed out on tarpaulin sheets and framed. These cheap knockoffs of original artwork do not last a lifetime and fade when constantly exposed to the elements like dust, sunlight, and air. Modern art on canvas should be considered something of an investment and a keepsake that you can pass down through the generations as something from this era. Like the paintings of the masters were passed down to this generation, so should these modern art pieces be passed on to the next generations to come.

Decorating your home with cheap knock-offs of certain paintings that you like or posters of paintings that you feel will make your home look good is fine if only for a little while. These things do not last and will soon fade away, and you will find yourself buying another poster or printout of another copy of real canvas paintings to replace the faded ones you have.

Why not consider buying the real thing instead and have something you can give to your children when they move to their own homes or when they grow up? There are a lot of modern art on canvas that are well painted and will be welcome additions to any home.

Buying paintings for your home is a sound investment since oil paintings rarely fade with exposure and time. If they do fade, they can be easily restored by experts who know how to handle oil paintings. Modern art on canvas can be your choice for canvas paintings that you can hand down to your next of kin, although there are other paintings styles you can choose from.

Modern art is a good depiction of our times and the prevalent artistic style that artists of this generation use. The different kinds of modern art you can choose from include pop art, modern abstract pieces, unique silhouette and figure paintings, realistic-looking still life, and modern landscapes and seascapes. The many types of modern art on canvas you can choose for your home may confuse you as to which kind you will choose to buy.

Since these are all lovely canvas paintings that will look good in any room of your home or even in your office, you can opt for any of the above-mentioned modern art paintings. You might even consider buying one of those multi canvas paintings that look so good on the wall of any home or office. These multi canvas paintings can also be seen in various styles like abstract, flower paintings, pop art paintings, and even in landscape paintings. When choosing modern art on canvas to pass on to the next generation, you will need to think that you are passing on something valuable and well worth receiving should you be the recipient yourself. You can also choose to buy more than one art piece if you have a liking for art and if you are looking to create a collection that you can keep until the time when you will be passing it on to your children and your children's children.

How To Sell Your Art In A Recession - Part Four
by Keith Gilchrist

You are standing before your artwork with a collector. This is the golden moment in selling art. Make your art easy to buy. Start by making yourself easy to buy from. Be yourself. Trust yourself. Talk to collectors using simple, everyday, honest language. Tell them what you believe. Throw in a little humor. Don't hide anything. People will believe that you are worthy of their trust because you are.

To shape productive conversations, start by listening...really pay attention. Listen carefully for his or her key interests and concerns. Offer information and advice freely. You can ask questions and make suggestions without sales pressure. Answer questions clearly, briefly and to the point. Tell stories about how collectors bought their first pieces from you. Talk (a little) about a recent piece you sold.

Lay out in your own mind all the steps to reviewing and purchasing a piece so your answers come naturally. How much does the work cost? What makes it worth that much? Why will family and friends approve of the choice? How can it be paid for? How it will be shipped and installed? How will you guarantee it? When you sense that someone is interested in your art, simply respond and work towards helping them decide.

You will hear objections. Learn to be comfortable working with them. An open, honest response works best to sell art. When you sense a collector is close to, or has made, a decision, feel comfortable in helping them close. Do what is natural for you. Gentle suggestions make it easy.

It is your job to establish the value of your artwork and make a collector comfortable with the price. You can make a good start by documenting and sharing your portfolio, artist's statement, resumes, biography, photographs or slides. You can provide stories about each piece. Whenever you're not sure how much your art is worth, look at the marketplace for clues. Check out what other artists are getting for art similar to yours and price comparably.

Be sensible. You can't give away your art and make a living. Know what a typical piece costs to produce. Add 30% to cover overhead. This is the lowest price you can allow. Below that you're not running a business, maybe a charity. Above this minimal price, consider your inspiration, creativity and skill. Be very honest with yourself here. If you are selling through a gallery, you'll need to accommodate their markup. You'll also have to maintain that price in selling art to collectors privately.

After you both are in agreement about the deal, shake hands and be still. Let him or her say the next words. A surprising number of people would really love to buy art, but need a little gentle encouragement. The moment they feel comfortable and confident with you and your work, they'll buy.

Looking and Appreciating Art

Looking and Appreciating Art
by Kieran Shep

Note that I am not claiming that there is one correct check-list method of looking at art. I am merely suggesting ways to appreciate and experience art when visiting galleries, museums, and other art exhibitions and displays since this can sometimes be a daunting task.

Most won't admit it, but they don't know what to look for so I am here to offer some advice to avoid the two second glance at a visual piece, or the desperate attempt to find clarity in the exhibition label, or the excited face posing for a photograph next to an art piece they admire. There are ways however to fulfill the primary purposes of viewing a work of art- for the pleasure of the eyes, the appreciation and enlightenment a work of art can offer.

I will start with Lucien Freud's feelings when he visited the National Gallery of Art in London

"I use the gallery as if it were a doctor. I come for ideas and help -- to look at situations within paintings, rather than whole paintings. Often these situations have to do with arms and legs, so the medical analogy is actually right. Do you know the old story about the strip-cartoon writer who goes on holiday?

He leaves his hero chained up at the bottom of the sea with an enormous shark advancing from the left and a huge octopus approaching. And the man who takes over the job can't figure out how to get the hero out of danger, and after several sleepless nights, he finally sends a telegram to the writer, asking him what to do. And the telegram comes back: 'With one tremendous bound the hero is free.' Well, when I come here I'm looking for ways to get myself out of troubles that are self-made."

Second- Scanning an artspace is perfectly normal, there is no way that anyone can view every piece for several minutes nor are they interested in everything exhibited. Scan the place to see what you are most attracted to and go to that artwork.

Third- Try to understand what it is that attracted you to this piece (although beauty attracts many people and many artworks are beautiful, all art isn't beautiful so this might not be your primary reason for liking a particular piece.)

Fourth- Look up close and take steps back (circle around it if it's an installation or sculpture that allows for engagement at more than one special perspective.) Try to understand why a certain medium was used, how it feels like physically and how that relates to the visual product. If a painting look at the brush strokes, the edges between foreground, object and background, the color transitions, where does light come from, and how do you react emotionally to the way the piece presents itself.

If a sculpture or installation walk around it, think about the material, how it was made, how it interacts with the space it's in, what do the shapes look like, what effect does it have on you the viewer.

Fifth- After personal interaction with the piece on an emotional and raw level where only you interact according to your primary feelings, it can be helpful to contextualize. This means looking at the exhibition label, does its title reflect, change, or support the way you initially reacted to this art piece?

The curators of this exhibit put a lot of care and time in creating the labels or wall panel supporting the artwork through words so it can be helpful to read what their thoughts are as well as your own. Sometimes contextualizing and knowing how the art fits in historically can understand why it was special for its time, why people thought it was so original, and you may learn a bit of art history and ideas also occurring at the time this artwork was produced.

If you really like the artwork, it can help to keep a personal analog of artists or artworks you enjoy for future reference or expansion. For instance, you may want to see upcoming exhibits from this artist to know more about their art, or read up on articles to understand more about the process and what attracted you to their art in the first place. Resources like http://www.mutualart.com are fantastic for this type of artistic personal expansion. This can be useful for students (pretty much anyone who loves art), collectors, teachers, or dealers in the arts.

Lastly, once you've fully enjoyed a work of art move on to the next one that attracts your interest and you will be surprised to find you may be attracted to it for completely different reasons than the last one. It's a journey of self-discovery and visual pleasure so enjoyment is key. It's more important to appreciate a new pieces because it will be more memorable than to give 2 seconds to every artwork in a museum simply because you feel the need to step foot on every floor.

Is Interior design a Reflection of Mind?

Is Interior design a Reflection of Mind?
by Abhyudaya

Interior design is a job related with anything found inside a space - walls, doors, windows, finishes, light, textures, furnishings and furniture. Interior designers used these elements to develop a safe and functional pleasing space for the user of building. Therefore, they are also called as architects.

An interior designer works upon many disciplines like environmental psychology, product design, architecture and traditional decoration (cosmetics and aesthetics). They design every type of building includes: hotels, schools, corporate spaces, hospitals, shopping malls, private residences, theaters, restaurants and airport terminals.

Now, Let us discuss how Interior Design relates to our Mind?

Human is a composite of body, mind and spirit. The proper coordination of all these three creates the world around us. Whatever we want in our life, the things are first created in our mind and then our mind sends signals to our brain and finally the brain sends signals to all the parts of our body to take action. Then the imagination of our mind gets converted in reality.

Our mind decides what we imagine. Means if I want to decorate my drawing room, all from the type of furniture I choose will depend upon my broader attitude towards life.

I will not say that only high budget designs are best as in my personal life, I have noticed many interior designers have spent their entire lives on studying low cost design projects and also won awards for their brilliant work.

I do not agree with the point that an interior designer is an artist because an artist performs his acts to satisfy his own desire which could be any performing art. Even, an interior designer is neither an engineer nor a technician as when an engineer builds a design he is not concern for making it beautiful. His first goal is to make it functional. So, he puts his full efforts and energy in making the design functional.

Therefore, an interior designer is one who satisfies both the functional and aesthetical part of the design. But to satisfy each and every user's aesthetic hunger, it is quite difficult.

Acrylic Painting Tips & Techniques For Beginners

Acrylic Painting Tips & Techniques For Beginners
by Ralph Serpe

Acrylic paint, when compared with other mediums like oil paint, is a fairly new addition to the world of painting. It has only been around since the 1950's . It has been continually under development and refinement since that time. Just because acrylic paint has not been around as long as oils, does not make these paints less important or enjoyable.

Some of the wonderful benefits of using acrylic paints are their versatility, permanence and ease of use. These paints can be applied thickly as an impasto or in thin washes similar to watercolor. Acrylic paint does not yellow or harden with age like oils.

Another reason artists love to work with acrylics is their fast drying time. Since acrylic paint dries so quickly, colors can be applied and layered quicker than oil paints. But with this fast drying time comes a few disadvantages:

1) The paint will not remain workable for very long, so you have to work fast.

2) Brushes can be ruined if you do not clean them right away.

3) If you plan to paint outdoors, then acrylic paint is probably not the best medium to use, especially on a hot sunny day. When you lay out your colors on a palette or other surface, they will begin to dry quickly forming skins on the surface, making them quite difficult to work with.

ACRYLIC PAINTING TECHNIQUES

Watercolor Effects

Many artists like to use acrylics in a fluid state, similar to watercolor. There is a notable difference though. With acrylics, washes can be layered on top of one another without fear of disturbing the colors underneath. You must wait for one layer to dry completely before applying another of course. Once each layer dries it becomes insoluble in water. One disadvantage to using acrylics as a watercolor medium is the difficulty in modifying the color. Once acrylic paint begins to dry it becomes very difficult to modify and washes can sometime dry with unwanted hard edges. You can avoid this problem in one of two ways. You can either dampen the paper before the paint is applied or you can use an additional brush dampened with water. Use one brush to apply the paint and immediately soften the edge with the other brush that has been dampened with the water.

Pouring & Dripping Technique

This technique was made popular by the master painter Jackson Pollock in the late 1940's and early 1950's. You use a very fluid acrylic paint for this technique. You can pour it directly on the canvas or dip a brush into the paint and let it drip down onto the canvas. You can create some very interesting effects with this technique. Check out Jackson Pollocks work to see this technique in action.

Sgraffito Technique

Sgraffito is a scratching technique. It got its name from the Italian word graffiare which literally means to scratch. Just as the name implies it involves scratching into the surface of the wet paint which reveals either the ground or layer of dry color underneath. There are a number of different tools that can be used for this technique. Tools like screwdrivers or the sharpened end of an old paintbrush handle can work.

Using a Squeegee

A regular squeegee that you can buy at any hardware or auto store has the ability to create some interesting effects. First squeeze out some paint blobs directly along one edge of your support. You can layout whatever colors you wish. Then with one fluid motion drag the paint across the surface with your squeegee smearing and mixing the paint as you go.

ACRYLIC PAINTING TIPS

Variety

One of the things that makes a painting interesting is variety. Use a variety of different brushstrokes, techniques and values in your paintings. Change the direction of your brushstrokes or mix different techniques in the same painting.

Don't Copy

Don't copy other artists. Allow other artists to influence you and paint your own impression of what you see from your heart and soul. This is how your inner creativity shines on the canvas. It is what set painters like Vincent van Gogh and Salvador Dali apart from the rest. They each injected their own style and heart into their work.

Observe Your Surroundings

Spend time observing and studying your subjects and surroundings. Landscape artists spend a great deal of time outdoors studying nature. Figure and portrait artists spend a great deal of time studying the human anatomy. If you aren't spending enough time observing the subjects that you wish to paint, then you won't have the necessary knowledge to paint them.

Art Supplies

Are you using quality acrylic painting supplies? In the beginning when you are experimenting, it is ok to use cheaper supplies, but as you become more experienced, you may want to consider investing in better quality. When it comes to fine art supplies, you usually get what you pay for. If you buy cheap brushes, they will more than likely begin to fall apart. The ferrule of the brush can loosen and the hairs can fall out. If you use cheap paint, you will get cheap looking results. The colors will not have the same brilliance or the right consistency.

Don't Be Afraid to Use your Paint

Lets face it, good paint does not come cheap, so in an effort to conserve our paint, some artists will use as little paint as possible. This is a reasonable concern, but the truth however, is that your paintings will be more interesting if you lay down the brush stroke, leave it alone, and then reload your brush. Don't try and scrub the paint into the canvas, otherwise you are just staining, and not painting.

Don't Over Think

Don't overly criticize or judge your own work while you are painting. This will discourage and frustrate you. Just relax and let go. Trust yourself and your abilities.

Express yourself with a custom designed rear window graphic

Express yourself with a custom designed rear window graphic
by Phil Hulings

Make your graphics come to life on the back window of your truck or car. There are millions of items being sold there everyday. As an artist you may be wondering how to sell original art on Ebay and make money or even a living from it. After all there are thousands of artist there listing their art for sale day after day. At any given time there can be tens of thousands of art pieces listed. Some those pieces may not even get seen.
So the question becomes how do you get your art to stand out from the crowd and get it into a buyer's hands? You can look on Ebay and see that there are popular forms of art that sell very well. Abstract art for instance or Pop Art, even cat art to name a few. You can find listings for these styles of art well into the thousands with more being listed daily. So you may be thinking since these styles are popular and people are buying them I'll do something in those styles. But because those styles are popular there is a lot of competition and unless you are already well known and have a customer base it's hard to compete in those styles.
If you want to know how to sell original art on Ebay and make money the answer is you have to be different. You have to do something that a good number of people are looking for, but there is very little competition for. In order to stand out from the crowd you have to stay away from what the crowd is doing. I for instance do surreal art. There is a fairly good amount of people that are looking to buy surreal art, but there is very little competition in that style. When I list an art piece for auction as surrealism, I may be competing with three hundred other pieces on ten pages verses ten thousand pieces on three hundred pages as an abstract listing.
So to be successful as an artist on Ebay you must be different. Stay away from what everybody else is doing no matter how well it may be selling. And above all make sure you are doing high quality artwork. That's how to sell original art on Ebay and make money.

Special Anniversaries with Photo to Canvas Gifts

Special Anniversaries with Photo to Canvas Gifts
by Jimmy Seville

It is customary in our culture to gift our beloved ones with precious things during special anniversaries.
