Viva Voce: Octavio video

Viva Voce’s first video from Rose City has hit Youtube. The song is for the brooding Octavio, and the video is set in an old worn mansion in the 1920s. Kevin Robinson types away on an Underwood typewriter while Anita Robinson writes a note and places it in a hole in the bedroom wall. The two find themselves performing with their newly formed band.

Here We Go Magic: Fangela

Luke Temple’s Here We Go Magic has a new video for Fangela, which premiered on Pitchfork TV today. The video was produced by Snejina Latev, her second video for Here We Go Magic.

“The video for Fangela was, for the most part, made by hand. It is composed of charcoal animations, small sculptural elements, super-8 footage, stop-motion animation and homemade light effects. The intention behind these methods was to compliment the qualities of the song. While the images reflect the mood of Fangela, the style resonates its recording, texture and composition.”

Every year brings a few surprisingly strong debuts by new artists. Last week we purchased Fanfarlo’s Reservoir for $1 (the offer ends on July 4), not expecting what we heard.

Whenever you receive an email saying that Jónsi of Sigur Rós is floored by a new artist, you need to at least check them out. Fanfarlo made such a strong impression on Sigur Rós that the album cover is a photo of Sigurrós (Jónsi’s sister) and her cousin Disa. Sigur Rós had this to say about this band from London:

“[Fanfarlo] made the record in Connecticut with a guy called Peter Katis and, as the more vigilant of you may have noticed, Jónsi liked it so much that he has started work on his own solo record with the same dude.”

David Davidson to debut Cast Spells in July

David Davidson of Maps & Atlases has started a side project called Cast Spells. They’re debuting in July with the an EP titled Bright Works And Baton. After Maps & Atlases finish their June tour, Davidson will take Cast Spells on their first tour, accompanied by So Many Dynamos.

Sleep Whale: Little Brite

Curators of folk instrumentals will want to tune into Sleep Whale. They have a six song EP coming out on July 14th called Little Brite. They write acoustic driven melodies, mix in the emotive effect of strings, hand percussion when needed and process the recordings, adding electronic noises and ambient flares.
