Utilities Are Going Underground

Puerto Morelos Utilities are going underground!

The Municipality formally kicked off the project yesterday, February 21st. Measurements and preliminary steps are currently being taken.

Second step will be to channel and lay all of the cabling and utility wires. (FIBER OPTIC INTERNET IS COMING!!!!!) Step three will be to take down posts and make the underground connections.

Final phase is to repave and install new sidewalks.

If you are part of this project, now is the time to connect to the new sewer lines!

Mexico makes travel easier for Fido with Frequent Traveler Program

In an attempt to make pet travel easier for regular travelers, Mexico has developed a new Frequent
Pet Traveler program.

"When a pet is registered in the program, owners are provided with an official document issued by Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (SENASICA), which contains the general data of the traveler and pet, vaccination and deworming record as well as a certification of health of the pet every time he enters the country.

With the registration, visitors can enter the country for a period of up to six months as long as the anti-rabies vaccination and deworming are valid and the animal is healthy."

For more information about what is required to travel with Cats and Dogs, as well as other companion animals, I recommend you visit the Mexico's Senasica webpage. They are the governmental department that controls pet requirements. This page is in Spanish, but it's the best source for accurate information. You can always use Google Translate if needed! (This is the link to their page at the time of publishing.)

Complete Your Tourist Card Before Arrival

If you are arriving in Mexico as a tourist, you will be filling out an FMM Form as part of your arrival. That is your Visa to be in Mexico. At immigration (either at airport or border crossing), Mexican Officials will retain the top half and give the bottom portion of the form back to you. It's important that you keep that form!

It's your visa to demonstrate you legally entered the country.
They will request that bottom portion from you when you leave at the border or at the airport.

If you have a Temporary or Permanent Mexican Resident Visa, you will also complete the FMM form, but you will complete it BEFORE leaving Mexico. Mexican immigration will collect the remaining portion of the form from you when you re-enter from your trip outside of Mexico.

Mexico now has a website that allows you to complete the form prior to your arrival for your convenience and, hopefully, a speedier arrival process. If you wish to complete the form online, be sure to complete one for each traveler.

Remember: Your visa allows you to stay in the country for as many days as it has been authorized. The immigration official will write the number of authorized days on your form. Max allowed is 180 days. If you originally request 14 days, are approved for 14, and then decide to extend your trip, you will need to visit a local immigration office to have your visa extended for the remaining days of your stay BEFORE your visa expires.

Update: This is a new website. Let us know feedback on how it goes in the comment section of this blog post! At the end of the day, if you can't get yours to print, you'll always have the option of filling them out at arrival.

The question of finding a U.S. Notary frequently arises on forums.

There is only ONE place to find a U.S. Notary when abroad: Your closest Embassy or Consulate Office.

The notarial services are described here.

You need to have an appointment. Click the link above to make one.
The notary charges $50 per seal that is required, although fees are waived in some cases.

Please make an appointment by calling the office phone during normal office hours. Emergency cases are accepted as walk-ins.
