FlyDining Coming To Puerto Rico

FlyDining, a restaurant concept that lets people enjoy a delicious meal, while at an altitude of 160 feet, will be opening a location in San Juan, Puerto Rico. With an investment of $500,000, the FlyDining restaurant, according to their website, offers an aerial setting, with 360 degree views, suspended at 160 feet above ground level, with a unique structure supported by a single crane. The structure sits 24 people around the table and a staff of four people.

FlyDining guests can choose a menu for five different seating times: breakfast (9:30 a.m), lunch (1:30 p.m.), Hi-Tea (3:30 p.m.), Sundowner (5:30 p.m.) and dinner (8:00 p.m.)

Puerto Rico would be the 18th location for the chain that includes: India, Bangladesh, Singapore, and Greece. There are no dates announced yet for the opening. Go to their website, flydining.com for more information.

For 2023, the town of Ro Grande, Puerto Rico was chosen as one of the world's greatest places by Time Magazine. Rio Grande is located on the east coast of Puerto Rico.

Time Magazine highlights the El Yunque Rain Forest, located in Rio Grande. El Yunque is one of the main tourist attractions and it is home to the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest.

El Yunque has undergone an $18 million dollar renovation. The renovations include: A new visiting center, El Portal, a new introductory video narrated by Benicio Del Toro, and ranger demonstrations to learn about 240-plus plants species and 18 bird species endemic to Puerto Rico.

Iberia Airlines Expands In Puerto Rico

The Government of Puerto Rico and Iberia Airlines have come to an agreement to expand the Spanish Airline route from Madrid to San Juan. Iberia will be increasing their flights from Madrid to San Juan, the most flights in two decades.

In 2022, Iberia Airlines had great demand for flights from Madrid to San Juan, and believe the demand will continue in 2023 and beyond. Iberia Airlines is seeing great interest in tourism to Puerto Rico from the Spanish and European markets.

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company also sees this as an opportunity to expand tourism promotion of Puerto Rico in Spain and European markets. A digital campaign, including social media, will be used to promote Puerto Rico in these markets.

Hurricane Fiona Hits Puerto Rico

Hurricane Fiona hit Puerto Rico on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria, which devastated the island five yeas ago. Hurricane Fiona entered Puerto Rico from the south, to southwest and exited northwest of the island. Hurricane Fiona brought unrelenting rain, more than 30 inches in the south area, and horrible flash floods to Puerto Rico. The most damage took place on the south and southwest towns of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico was again, left without power island wide and to this date around 300,000 residents are still without power. Luma Energy is working around the clock to restore power but the energy company has taken much criticism for not restoring power sooner, especially to areas of the island that were spared the worst from Hurricane Fiona.

At least 1,000 people had to be rescued when streets became rivers. Three people died and 2 were injured in accidents related to the power outage. The Governor of Puerto Rico estimated the damage cost from Hurricane Fiona will be in the billions.

If you had plans to spend time in Puerto Rico, within the next few weeks, make sure to call your hotel in the area you are visiting to make sure the power has been fully restored. Also be aware that some attractions might be closed, as the cleanup takes place.

Puerto Rico is ending the requirements for masks indoors as the number of cases and hospitalizations have gone down. In addition, domestic travelers no longer have to present proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test or fill out the currently required form.

Puerto Rico is also lifting all capacity restrictions at private and public businesses, and proof of vaccination to enter will no longer be required.

However, masks are required at hospitals, medical offices, pharmacies, laboratories, and elderly care facilities. Social distancing should still be practiced.

Covid -19 Variant, Omicron Is In Puerto Rico

The Covid -19 variant, Omicron has arrived in Puerto Rico, and the government of Puerto Rico has taken new measures to stop the spread of the virus.

New rules are:

1- All establishments serving food or drinks must require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid -19 test, taken 48 hours prior to arrival.

2- All passengers arriving on domestic flights are required to show a negative Covid - 19 test taken within 48 hours before arrival time, regardless of vaccination status. Passengers without a test will have 48 hours to take one upon arrival or be subject to a fine. Unvaccinated travelers must quarantine for 7 days after arriving, regardless of whether they have a negative test result.

3- All restaurants, bars, theaters, stadiums, coliseums, convention centers, and casinos, will limit capacity to 50% for indoor event and 75% for outdoor events.

4- All businesses will close between midnight and 5 AM, except for health services and pharmacies.

5- Alcohol sale is also prohibited between midnight and 5 AM.

6- Masks are required indoors, regardless of age or vaccination status. Masks are required on all outdoor activities of 50 attendees or more.
