Indian students duped by US univ forced to wear radio collars

After being duped by a California-based "sham" university, scores of Indian students in the US are now enduring the ignominy of being forced to wear radio collars around their ankles so that authorities can keep track of their movements.

The students, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, may also be deported as authorities shut down Tri-Valley University in Pleasanton, a major suburb in San Francisco Bay Area, on charges of a massive immigration fraud.

A number of students were interrogated by authorities and also forced to wear radio collars fitted with GPS technology to track their movements.

"They (the students) were tagged with some sort of monitoring system placed on their ankles," Jayaram Komati of the Telugu Association of North America told a private Indian channel.

"...it is none of their (the students') fault, but the university is at fault as it violated some rules and regulations because of which all the students are being victimised in this whole situation.

"We heard that ( External Affairs Minister )) S M Krishna is trying to talk to the State Department. Hopefully this type of pressure will make this much easier (to resolve the issue)," he was quoted as saying.

An unnamed Indian student, who was among those duped, said the university was shut down all of a sudden.

"We don't know what is happening with the university and the US government . We have been told that we are illegal immigrants," he was quoted as saying by the channel, adding that 100 students of the university, which had a total of 4,400, have been affected.

"We went to the local Senator and the Indian embassy . We also met the local attorney to help us but everyone is saying that this is the deportation process. People from immigration office came to my room and said they needed some information about our college. Before going, they put tags on our ankles and said this is the tracking system."

State Department spokesman P J Crowley yesterday said that any activity involving visa fraud would obviously be of great concern to the US. "The investigation of that is done by law enforcement, obviously with our cooperation, since we are the ones who issue visas."

According to a federal complaint filed in a California court last week, the University helped foreign nationals illegally acquire immigration status. The students are reported to have paid lakhs of rupees for obtaining a visa for their category and also for students work permit.

Investigations by Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) found that while students were admitted to various residential and on-line courses of the university and on paper lived in California, in reality they "illegally" worked in various parts of the country as far as Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Texas. ICE called Tri-Valley a "sham university".

Taco Bell beef faked? No more than the rest of the FDA-approved toxic food supply

The word spread like wildfire across the internet: An Alabama law firm had filed a class action lawsuit against Taco Bell in California, saying its meat fails to meet the definition of beef set forth by the U.S. government (and even that's a pretty low hurdle, if you ask me). The lawsuit claims Taco Bell's meat cannot be honestly advertised as "beef" because it claims tests showed the meat was only 35% beef, not the 70% beef required by federal standards.

"It's mainly soy and oats, and there's lots of other stuff in there that I don't even know how to pronounce," said attorney Dee Miles.

Taco Bell responded quickly, saying their meat was "88% beef" and that they buy the same brand of beef sold in supermarkets -- Tyson Foods.

Oh well, that clears it all up, then. Tyson Foods.

And what's the other 12%? According to Taco Bell, it's water, spices, oats, starch and "other ingredients" that the restaurant says contribute to the "quality" of its beef. Apparently, Taco Bell believes the way to enhance the quality of beef is to throw in things that are not beef.

So what else might be found in that "other ingredients" category? A quick look at Taco Bell's own website reveals the restaurant uses all the following ingredients in its various menu offerings:

• Autolyzed Yeast Extract (which contains MSG, an excitotoxin)
• Red #40, Blue #1, Yellow #6 artificial colors
• Corn syrup solids
• Partially Hydrogenated Corn Oil
• Soy Protein
• Propylene Glycol Alginate
• Dimethylpolysiloxane (an anti-foaming chemical)

Christina Aguilera to sing Super Bowl national anthem

Christina Aguilera will sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl on February 6, Fox television and the National Football League announced on Monday.
"I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true," the five-time Grammy award winning singer-songwriter said in a statement. "I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event."
Aguilera, who made her movie debut in December as the star of the musical "Burlesque" and began singing professionally as a teenager, previously performed at the Super Bowl halftime show in 2000.
The performers at this year's halftime show will be The Black Eyed Peas.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will take on the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl in Dallas on February 6. The game is the most-watched event annually on U.S. television and last year drew more than 153 million viewers.

Anesthesiologists spread dangerous infections during surgery because they don't wash their hands

With all the amazing and advanced medical technology available in the 21st century, operating rooms must be extremely safe when it comes to being sterile and clean for surgery. At least, that is what most of us assume. But now a new study just reported in Anesthesia & Analgesia, the official journal of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), shows that's a dangerous assumption. In fact, bacteria -- including some very dangerous varieties -- are commonly found on the hands of anesthesia providers, resulting in high rates of transmission of these germs to the surgical field during operations.

The reason behind this hand contamination is nothing less than astounding. It turns out, anesthesiologists simply aren't washing their hands or washing them well enough. The study points out that while other factors contribute to bacteria being spread in operating rooms, the problem is mostly from a lack of compliance with plain, old-fashioned hand-washing.

"As anesthesiologists, we like to think that the surgical drapes protect the patient from tens of trillions of microorganisms that are in and on our bodies," Dr. Steven L. Shafer of Columbia University, who is Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia, said in a statement to the media. "Nope! These studies provide evidence that our bacterial flora contribute to surgical site infections."

Dr. Randy W. Loftus and colleagues of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire, carried out a detailed study to investigate the specific origin of bacteria transmitted to the surgical field in 164 operating room procedures that all involved general anesthesia. The researchers performed culture tests and discovered that bacteria were transmitted to the stopcock valves of the intravenous lines in 11.5% of procedures. And in about 50% of these cases, the bacteria found in the intravenous lines were the same as those identified on the hands of anesthesia providers, including attending anesthesiologists, residents, and nurse-anesthetists

What's more, before the start of surgical procedures, contamination with potential disease-causing bacteria was identified on the hands of anesthesia providers in 66% of cases. And bacteria were transmitted in the operating room in an astounding 89% of procedures.

The study found there were several factors that were linked with an increased risk of bacterial transmission. For example, germ transmission was more likely when the anesthesiologist had to supervise more than one operating room simultaneously. The spreading of bacteria was also more likely in older patients, and when the patient was sent directly from the operating room to the intensive care unit.

"Contamination of provider hands before patient care represents an important modifiable risk factor for bacterial cross-contamination," Dr. Loftus and colleagues wrote in the journal article. "These findings support initiatives designed to improve intraoperative hand hygiene of anesthesia providers both before and during patient care, as well as intraoperative decontamination strategies."

An editorial accompanying the study pointed out there that while there's a need to improve decontamination measures, there's little doubt that what the authors call "abysmal compliance with hand-washing recommendations" is the major contributor to the spread of surgical infections.

"Although we know that hand-washing is an important step, our compliance is poor, and there is little excuse for hospitals not implementing systems that facilitate compliance with hand-washing guidelines," Dr. Shafer stated.

Michael Douglas cancer cure announcement is a cruel medical hoax

Today the mainstream media is gleefully announcing that Michael Douglas has been "cured" of throat cancer. Yes, they use the "cure" word, as if to imply the cancer is gone and will never recur. Michael Douglas himself announced he has "beat cancer," and various cancer survivor groups are celebrating Douglas as a "cancer survivor."

Sadly, tragically, it's all a cruel medical hoax. Michael Douglas is not a cancer survivor but rather a chemotherapy survivor. His doctors have poisoned his body's vital organs -- brain, liver, kidneys and heart -- with extremely toxic chemicals that cause permanent, long-term damage. Yes, along the way a cancer tumor shrank in size, and yet even that observation is no cure either. Why? Because cancer tumors grow right back, usually within five years in the case of those with a history of smoking and drinking.

Mainstream media promotes chemotherapy

Yet, by parading Michael Douglas as an example of a cancer "cure," the mainstream media is cruelly and unjustifiably functioning as the marketing branch of the conventional cancer industry, publicizing a blatantly false message that "chemotherapy cures cancer." This will have the effect of causing yet more cancer patients to sign up for toxic chemotherapy treatments which will, sadly, kill many of them.

In this way, the mainstream media has made Michael Douglas the poster boy for quack medicine and fraudulent cancer "cures." That's not his fault, of course: He's just trying to cure cancer the best way he knows how, and he no doubt believed the lies and deceptions his cancer doctors were trained to tell him. But the media is turning this into almost a celebration of the cancer industry. And that is extremely irresponsible, given how many people don't survive chemotherapy, even when far safer and more natural therapies are readily available that really do cure cancer (but which have been outlawed in America).

The cancer industry is based on deception

If you really get down to the bottom of the issue here, the cancer industry is much like the financial industry (Wall Street) in that it is based on lies and misinformation. In order to stay in business, it must continue to promote those lies, which include messages like "There's no such thing as a cure for cancer" unless you use their toxic poisons, in which case they readily use the word "cure." But you're not really cured because 70% (or so) of people who get chemotherapy for throat cancer are dead within five years.

Whereas, in the natural realm, people who pursue radical changes in lifestyle and who undergo live foods juicing therapies, Gerson therapy and other holistic approaches to cancer are literally cured to the point where their bodies stop metabolizing cancer. They literally cure their own cancers out of health, not poison. And because of that, they survive a very large number of years thereafter.

Not every person is cured through the use of natural therapies, of course. Many people, for their own reasons, are unable to give up smoking cigarettes, or eating refined sugar, or consuming diet sodas or whatever substance probably contributed to their cancer in the first place. A genuine "cure" for cancer requires absolute commitment to a healthful lifestyle, including the complete avoidance of cancer-causing chemicals in personal care products (cosmetics, deodorants, perfumes, etc.), in foods (processed meat), in medicines and so on. It also requires a real nutritional overhaul of the body that boosts levels of vitamin D, selenium, zinc, vitamin C and plant-based anti-cancer nutrients such as those derived from raw cruciferous vegetables.

None of these things, however, were explained to Michael Douglas. The conventional cancer industry isn't in the business of "educating" patients. It's so much easier to just poison them and bill their insurance companies for the poison. Then, for those who live through the suffering of the poison, they announce a (false) "cure" and congratulate them on being "cancer survivors."

Why chemotherapy treatment is a crime

It is cruel beyond measure to engaged in such celebration of the medical harming of a human being. Chemotherapy should be criminalized, not celebrated. It is a kind of "medical violence" being committed against human beings who are, 100% of the time, actually harmed by it. Remember that chemotherapy chemicals are derived from the chemical weapons of World War I (Mustard Gas in particular). What was once used on the battlefield to murder soldiers is now dripped into the veins of cancer victims and called "medicine."

The immediate side effects tell the real story of the dangers of chemotherapy to anyone paying attention: Extreme muscle loss, vomiting, hair falling out, a loss of brain function, sexual function and healthy sleep. These are not signs of people healing. These are the signs of people who are being poisoned. This should be obvious to any intelligent observer.

That some people manage to survive these poisons is not a testament to the poisonous treatment itself but rather a demonstration of the amazing ability of the human liver to detoxify the human body, even against an onslaught of chemical weapons administered by oncologists. And yet, even the liver has its limits, and after chemotherapy, most peoples' livers are permanently damaged to some degree, setting them up for yet more medical procedures, pharmaceuticals and possibly even a liver transplant (ka-ching!).

Yes, it's no exaggeration to say that chemotherapy's greatest benefit is to the doctors and hospitals who depend on repeat business to stay profitable. Send a chemo patient home after a round of treatment, and you can be sure they will be back before too long, suffering from something else you can treat and bill.

Such is the sad, toxic legacy of our so-called "scientific" system of modern medicine, where profits consistently override the best interests of the patients.

I wish Douglas the best possible outcome

Personally, I am saddened by the way in which the cancer industry exploits human suffering for its own profit. I am saddened to see such a fine individual as Michael Douglas have his health destroyed by chemotherapy. He deserves better. He deserves holistic medicine to remind his body that he already knows how to cure his own cancer if he is just given the opportunity and education.

I genuinely hope Michael Douglas is cured of cancer through chemotherapy. Perhaps he will be one of the rare miracles who somehow escapes the toxic effects of being poisoned by doctors. But history tells me that is a statistically unlikely and foolish hope, and that Douglas will be battling cancer yet again inside of five years.

I can only hope that he awakens to the world of natural healing and seeks a more natural route while that option remains available to him. In either case, even if he chooses conventional chemotherapy again, I wish him the best outcome and hope that his own biology can help him heal as quickly as possible. It saddens me beyond belief to see people being harmed by the conventional cancer industry. I am convinced that one day, chemotherapy will be outlawed. Until that day comes, it will continue to claim innocent victims who suffer and die at the hands of quack oncology.

In a first of its kind, a dating website for those "larger than life" has come up in Britain. The website is a strict no-no for slim people.

Nearly 1,000 flocked to the self-confessed site for "large folk", FunPie.co.uk, in the first 12 hours of its opening, though slim people "need not apply", British tabloid 'The Sun' reported.

The site for "large folk" invited people with "natural curves" to join up to share some big love.

In fact, the agency is the brainchild of serial dating entrepreneur Howard James, the creator of The Ugly Bug Ball, the world's first dating site for the "aesthetically challenged".

He said it was designed to offer the UK's estimated 12 million overweight men and women a "much-needed" service.

"Most dating sites seem to show people who are skinny models but there is a huge proportion of the population that is fabulously flabby. There are precious few resources for them to find love with other overweight people," he said.

A new member, Lisa Lawler, a self-confessed "PieLover" from London said: "The site has been a real helping hand for me, I've finally been given the chance to embrace my curves and get back on the dating ladder."

-The Los Angeles Lakers and Boston Celtics battled against each other for an NBA Championship for the second time in three years.

In the end, Kobe Bryant led the charge as the Lakers repeated as champs.

-Many athletes in 2010 have seen a dramatic fall in their historic figure. Out of all Tiger Woods has worse though.

The scandal was a constant theme within the media which lasted for quite a few months.

Most importantly, there was no success on the golf course amid this controversy.

Woods did not win a single major in 2010, as he intended to spend more time with his children.

-One of the biggest chokes in recent memory involved Brett Favre against the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Title game.

Favre threw an interception in overtime that resulted in a loss to the eventual champions, and a downfall on the months proceeding that.

Doctors should be forced to tell patients they are seriously impaired from lack of sleep before they operate

(NaturalNews) Here's another one of those stories about mainstream medical practices that sounds like it couldn't be true -- but it is. According to an editorial just published in the New England Journal of Medicine, there are currently regulations in place to restrict the work hours of doctors in training -- but no such rules for fully trained physicians. That means doctors who are severely sleep deprived are currently performing operations on unsuspecting patients who have no idea their surgeons are as impaired as if they were drunk out of their minds. "Studies have shown that sleep deprivation impairs psychomotor performance as severely as alcohol intoxication," the authors of the study pointed out in a media statement.

The editorial presents a compelling case that these sleep-deprived physicians should not be allowed to perform elective surgery unless their patients give informed, written consent agreeing to be operated on by an impaired doctor. "This approach would represent a fundamental shift in the responsibility patients are asked to assume in making decisions about their own care and might prove burdensome to patients and physicians and damaging to the patient-physician relationship," the authors wrote. "This shift may be necessary until institutions take the responsibility for ensuring that patients rarely face such dilemmas."

So just how dangerous is it to be operated on by a doctor who is sleep-deprived? A 2009 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found a significant increase in the risk of complications in patients who underwent elective daytime surgical procedures performed by surgeons who hadless than a six-hour opportunity for sleep during a previous on-call night. What's more, doctors who are sleep-deprived are often not able to accurately recognize how severely they are impaired.

"Sleep deprivation affects clinical performance. It increases the risks of complications. And it is clear from survey data that patients would want to be informed if their physician was sleep deprived and that most patients would request a different provider," Michael Nurok, M.D., Ph.D., an anesthesiologist and intensive care physician at Hospital for Special Surgery who is first author of the editorial, said in a press statement. "We think that institutions have a responsibility to minimize the chances that patients are going to be cared for by sleep-deprived clinicians."

The editorial concludes that sleep-deprived physicians should be required to inform patients of their condition; it also argues that patients have the right to be told of the potential hazards that can come from surgery performed by sleep-impaired surgeons. And patients should be given the opportunity to go ahead with the procedure, proceed with a different doctor, or reschedule for another time.

If patients decide they want to go ahead with a planned operation performed by a sleep deprived doctor, Dr. Nurok and his co-authors believe they should be required to sign a consent form on the day of the procedure in front of a witness to show they understand the potential risks. Although it would seem like a no-brainer that patients have a right to know a surgeon they are trusting their bodies and lives to is not impaired, the editorial authors say there are many barriers to the idea of this informed consent.

Not surprisingly, one of the biggest problems is based on the fear that when patients learn doctors are impaired from lack of sleep, there will be financial consequences for hospitals and physicians. Some doctors will lose cases and have a drop in income and medical centers will lose money if patients reschedule and go elsewhere for their surgery. However, Dr. Nurok and his colleagues counter that by giving patients the facts and true informed consent, any income lost by docs and hospitals will be offset by improved surgical outcomes and reduced complications.

"There has been widespread discomfort with the idea that patients are having procedures performed by physicians who are fatigued," Dr. Nurok concluded. "New policies are needed."

Car bomb found in Times Square
A T-shirt vendor reports smoke coming from an unattended car parked in New York’s Times Square. After police smell gunpowder coming from the car, the area is evacuated.

Authorities confirm that there is indeed a bomb in the car, but it failed to explode. Within hours, Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old Pakistani-American, is taken into custody aboard a flight bound for the United Arab Emirates. Shahzad would later plead guilty to 10 criminal counts, and he received a life sentence in October.

Van der Sloot arrested in Peru
Peruvian authorities confirm that Joran van der Sloot, the Dutch man once considered a suspect in the 2005 disappearance of Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway, has confessed to the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez.

Van der Sloot would later try to recant his confession, claiming his constitutional rights were violated because he was represented by a state-appointed attorney. But his confession was ultimately upheld. He is now awaiting trial.

-Americans, Russians swap prisoners
Ten Russians accused of intelligence gathering are expelled from the United States in exchange for Russia's release of four prisoners accused of spying for the United States.

12.December

-President Barack Obama announced he had reached a deal with Republican leaders to extend Bush era tax cuts for all Americans for two more years. In exchange the president received an extension of unemployment benefits. The president had been fighting the tax cuts for most of 2010, and the deal angered most liberal Democrats, but signed the bill into law on December 17.

-On December 7, Australian Julian Assange, founder of whistleblowing website Wikileaks, was arrested days after Interpol put him on its most-wanted list. Assange, under fire for posting secret military documents online, was arrested for an alleged sexual assault in Sweden and eventually release on December 17.

-On December 26, a massive blizzard pounded the Northeast, dumping more than 20 inches of snow on New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The storm left thousands stranded in cars and their homes. 911 calls went unanswered. And the snow forced the postponement of the Sunday Night Football game in Philadelphia. All of the New York City streets were cleared four days later.

US Congress approved a bill to raise fund to provide free medical treatment to those suffering from illnesses contracted while clearing the debris at the Ground Zero site in the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attack.

The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act of 2010 seeks to create a $4.3 billion fund to provide free medical treatment. But, indirectly it may affect Indians and Indian IT companies.

The bill passed on Wednesday night will require an estimated budget of $4.3 billion over a 5-year period will primarily be funded by taxing goods and services sourced from contractors in countries like India, China and Thailand, which are outside the purview of WTO's Agreement on Government Procurement. It will also be funded by continuation of an increased fee on certain categories of H-1B and L1 visas — that would mainly impact Indian IT companies — and the continuation of a fee on some travelers to this country.

At a press conference following the passage of the bill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the bill might not be perfect, but is nevertheless satisfying.

"We didn't get everything we wanted. We didn't get everything we wanted. But always remember: Legislation is the art of compromise. This is $4.3 billion better than nothing.

"This is a great victory for the American people, the people of New York, New Jersey and the rest of the country," he said.
