Assad Regime Agrees to Attend Geneva Peace Conference While Continuing to Bombard Opposition

The major news coming out of the New York Times today is the Russian announcement that Bashar al-Assad's tyrannical regime in Syria has agreed to attend an international conference in Geneva to end the conflict in his war torn nation, which he started over two years ago and has caused 80,000 to perish.

Well, isn't that helpful.

Over the past month Assad has pushed rebel forces farther and farther away from Damascus along the pivotal main roads, including a strategic victory earlier this week that saw Hezbollah terrorists fight with government forces to oust the rebels, and these gains are due to increased outside support: one of them Russia.

If either Moscow or Damascus were serious about obtaining peace in the war torn nation, they would immediately cease offensive operations against the rebel opposition and al-Assad would signal that his intention is to step down from the presidency once both parties lay down their arms and an transitional government is put in place.

Instead the Syrian government has agreed to attend an international peace conference at some unknown future point while continuing to bombard their own citizenry into submission, in essence the stereotypical move: starve off potential foreign intervention by buying diplomatic goodwill while unrelentingly assaulting your opposition, or in Iran's case, advancing your nuclear program.

And, sadly, it works every time...

Woolwich Victim Identified: Drummer Lee Rigby

The victim of Wednesday's brutal beheading in the London neighborhood Woolwich has been identified by government officials as Drummer Lee Rigby of the 2nd Battalion in the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

Rigby leaves behind a two year old son and his lifelong dream of serving in the British Army, which he first enlisted in exactly seven years ago, or when he just turned eighteen. He was extremely popular and he was devoted to cheering on his beloved Manchester United apparently.

I feel for Drummer Rigby's family..... Nothing makes sense about the way he died, or the circumstances that surround it. He was an ordinary soldier who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and as a result was savagely murdered by islamic dogs for the sole purpose of "an eye for an eye" for crimes our Lee Rigby had no involvement in whatsoever.

May he rest in peace.

President Obama is a little uneasy with the way journalists have been dragged into the Justice Department’s aggressive pursuit of national security leak investigations. In fact, he has ordered Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct a 45-day review of the department’s guidelines on the issue.

That bit of news was buried in the middle of the president’s hourlong speech today at National Defense University.

“Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs,” President Obama said. “Our focus must be on those who break the law.”

Of the local Scout leaders voting at their annual meeting in Texas, more than 60 percent supported the proposal. Under the proposal drafted by the Scouts' governing board, gay adults will remain barred from serving as Scout leaders. The outcome is unlikely to end a bitter debate over the Scouts' membership policy. Some conservative churches that sponsor Scout units wanted to continue excluding gay youths, in some cases threatening to defect if the ban were lifted. More liberal Scout leaders - while supporting the proposal to accept gay youth - have made clear they want the ban on gay adults lifted as well.

There is a lot of speculation going on at the moment. Extra security is going into the courtroom. The defendant, her attorneys, the prosecutor, and the families of the effected parties are all in the court. The guess is that a verdict has been reached, but it could simply be a question. We'll have to wait and see.

In this phase, either the jury could decide life or death for Arias. They may also be hung, leading to a new jury to decide life or death.

Attorney General Eric Holder signed off on a controversial search warrant that identified Fox News reporter James Rosen as a “possible co-conspirator” in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, a law enforcement official told NBC News on Thursday.

The disclosure of the attorney general’s role came as President Barack Obama, in a major speech on his counterterrorism policy, said Holder had agreed to review Justice Department guidelines governing investigations that involve journalists.

"I am troubled by the possibility that leak investigations may chill the investigative journalism that holds government accountable," Obama said. "Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs."

Rosen, who has not been charged in the case, was nonetheless the target of a search warrant that enabled Justice Department investigators to secretly seized his private emails after an FBI agent said he had "asked, solicited and encouraged … (a source) to disclose sensitive United States internal documents and intelligence information."

Joe Biden has a very long history of putting his foot in his mouth. Be it when he called his running mate "Barack America," or when he stated, "You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent to fully... I'm not joking."

On Tuesday he did it again, this time when giving a speech about the impact that Jewish Americans have had on American culture. The Vice President started out by lauding the great achievements made by Jews in the United States. Then, speaking off-the-cuff, he veered into odd territory.

Discussing the impact of Jewish people and social media on gay marriage, Biden explained, "It wasn’t anything we legislatively did. It was ‘Will and Grace,’ it was the social media. Literally. That’s what changed peoples’ attitudes. That’s why I was so certain that the vast majority of people would embrace and rapidly embrace [gay marriage].

“Think behind of all that, I bet you 85 percent of those changes, whether it’s in Hollywood or social media are a consequence of Jewish leaders in the industry. The influence is immense, the influence is immense. And, I might add, it is all to the good,” he said.

Whether this is precisely what Biden actually meant or if he was going after a different point, but misspoke, has not been released.

The Vice President next name-dropped famous Jewish people who have had a major impact on American culture.

He finished by saying, “So I think you, as usual, underestimate the impact of Jewish heritage. I really mean that. I think you vastly underestimate the impact you’ve had on the development of this nation. We owe you, we owe generations who came before you."

Mom has Son Arrested for Eating Pop Tarts

A Charlotte woman had her son arrested on Monday. The reason? He ate his mother's Pop Tart.

According to WCNC, on Monday a woman called investigators claiming that her son had stolen an item from her. When police arrived, she informed them that he had eaten one of the Pop Tarts she wanted.

Though odd, the woman pressed charges, and the boy was taken into custody. He was charged with larceny/misdemeanor.

Neighbor Fred Patrick said about the juvenile who was arrested, "He seems real nice to me. I mean, he is real respectful."

When WCNC tried to speak to the woman, "She emerged only briefly to hurl an obscenity and then slammed the door."

Cuomo, during an appearance before the Syracuse Post-Standard's editoral board Wednesday, stayed neutral when asked his thoughts on Weiner entering the race.

"He runs? He runs," the paper quotes him as saying in a transcript.

But asked how he would feel if Weiner (self-pictured at right) were to be elected, Cuomo was blunt.

"Shame on us," he replied.

Cuomo, a Democrat, has said he has no plans to get involved in the mayor's race.

He gave a less definitive answer hours before he spoke to the Syracuse paper when asked by reporters in Buffalo for his reaction to Weiner's mayoral bid.

“None,” Cuomo said.

"No reaction. Look, my face didn’t move. No reaction."

Michael Adeboloja is reportedly one of the London attackers. He allegedly answers to his Muslim name "Mujahid," or "one who fights Jihad." He is reportedly the man in the video alone. Word is that he is a Muslim convert.

Someone claiming to be his friend has identified him on Twitter. His family is originally Nigerian. There are not many things on Google about the man, who has not been officially identified by the police. Reports and video show him bragging over the murder, praising God for the death of an alleged British soldier.

The stock market has dived today worldwide, with the Nikkei down more than 1,000.

But comments Wednesday by U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke and minutes from the Fed's recent policy meeting suggested that the Fed might start pulling back on its bond purchases sometime this year. That made investors fret that the flood might soon be tapering and dovetailed with weak Chinese manufacturing data to send the Nikkei tumbling. It fell 1,143.28 points to close at 14483.98, a drop of 7.3%, the worst decline by percentage since right after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

The Skagit River Bridge is located between Burlington and Mt. Vernon, about 100 kilometres north of Seattle and 128 kilometres south of Vancouver.

Four American citizens, most famously Anwar al-Awlaki, have been summarily liquidated from the air by the Civil Liberties President. Awlaki, incidentally, is the only one who was deliberately targeted. The other three are collateral damage, and you’re probably familiar with two of them. One was Awlaki’s teenaged son, who was killed a few weeks after his father while in the company of another jihadi suspect in Yemen. The other is Samir Khan, one of Awlaki’s disciples in propaganda and allegedly the editor of Inspire, Al Qaeda’s “magazine.” Khan, to my knowledge, was never accused of planning an attack, although he made it a lot easier for degenerates like the Tsarnaevs to kill people by publishing bombmaking instructions. He was killed in the same strike that killed Awlaki.
