An Ebay Winner - SEIKO 5 4227 00B0

This is a mint condition SEIKO 4227-00BO from January 1980. It's pricey but there are people who value a mint condition. I bought one some time ago but when it arrived it wasn't keeping time so I returned it. One thing that is brilliant about ebay is the returns policy. Even if the seller states no returns, ebay will usually step in and refund either partially or fully depending on the claim. It's built into the pricing but I've returned a dozen or so watches usually for losing or gaining 5 minutes or more a day. That's my threshold because it's over half an hour a week but for a really desirable model I'd probably swallow it.

The version I bought was a real fluke (I've been very lucky in my time). First off nobody else bid on it which is highly unusual as there's an army of lowest cost SEIKO watch buyers who will bid on anything low priced from 99p upwards to a starting bid of say £20 eventually reaching about £50 sale price. But where I had an advantage was that I knew the model, knew it's value and could see that the seller took an out of focus primary image photograph. There was a better shot in the film roll but it was smaller and as I mentioned I wasn't sure what I was getting till it arrived. Anyway for 25 quid it wasn't going to disappoint massively - I've just noticed there's two bids on it so somebody tried to outbid my by raising the price a few pennies but I think I rounded up my only bid. An extra pound could have robbed me of the prize.

Even the more focused shot is ambiguous about the casing colour but as previously mentioned, when it arrived I was stoked. It's in terrific condition and even has a slight patina of wear on the bracelet edges for authenticity.

I also have the smallest model in this range, the SEIKO 5 - 4207-00N0 that I purchased from a Japanese seller. It was produced in November 1985 and is very dinky but I love wearing it. Because it is near mint condition I also don't feel guilty about wearing it more than the older models I have.

The reason for these watch posts is I've a gut feel about something. I always liked the idea of an Automatic watch and I've explained why I focus on the SEIKO TV models from 68-73 but the manner of my immersion into the field was so not me. Firstly I'm absolutely not a materialists. I like and value luxury items but I don't need them. My first watch was a sort of long held hankering that turned into an ebay search and purchase, but it wasn't accurate so I returned it. I then bought my first SEIKO 5 6119-5000 from the year of my birth and was delighted with it. I started looking around and next purchased a RADO Manhattan (a model Gorbachev wore during his Reagan nuclear summits) but that too began to stop and start and even though it wasn't in the price the Tokyo seller apologised profusely and shipped it backed to Japan with a full refund (very honourable those Japanese). After that I stuck to the SEIKO 5 Automatics TV models and for a couple of years it took over me but the timing was right because as I began to question my materialist leanings, the 6119-5000s started to dry up so I think I may have the largest collection but it's very hard to verify.

There's no advantage to me posting about the watches as any price rises affect me too but I do believe everyone should have a 1968 to 80's automatic SEIKO 5 as they are diminishing in availability and represent a unique view into human nature and global mass production of the most complex of mechanism by one manufacturer worn on most humans at any one time and forever too.

I don't buy watches to make money. I buy them out of love for the design, mass manufacturing and a never again repeatable episode in most moving parts.

It's not entirely off-piste even though the 6119-5000s are my focus. I've tried to get one for a while now and the first malfunctioned so a return was necessary. Anyway, this popped up and I wasn't sure what I was getting till it arrived. OMG what a quintessential addition to the collection. I couldn't be more made up.

The Seiko 5 4227-00B0 rolled out around 1980-84, right in the thick of one of the most fractured, vibrant, and commercially explosive periods in British music. Post-punk had splintered, synths were taking over, and the charts were a battleground between glossy pop, new romantic escapism, and residual aggression from the late 70s.

On the commercial side it was the dawn of the Second British Invasion. Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, and Wham! dominated with polished videos, big hair, and shoulder pads. New Romanticism and the Blitz club scene fed a visual, fashion-driven pop that looked like it belonged on the cover of *The Face* or *i-D*. It was also the start of the MTV era and the cassette generation. Music was more disposable and more accessible. The same economic and cultural forces that made reliable, affordable Japanese automatics like the 4227 appealing — mass production, everyday functionality, unpretentious design — mirrored the music industry's shift toward catchy, repeatable pop hits pumped out for a generation raised on cheap consumer goods.

A 4227 on the wrist in 1981-83 would have sat perfectly on a bloke heading to see a gig at the Marquee or Hammersmith Odeon, or dancing in a provincial club to "Tainted Love" or "Girls on Film." Mechanical reliability in an increasingly electronic world.

I've always loved the idea that an Automatic watch is powered by natural hand movements while wearing the watch.

It's a small mechanical miracle. No battery. No winding by hand if you wear it regularly. Just the mundane swing of your arm, the twitch of your wrist, the everyday fidgeting and labour turning rotors and gears. Millions of people, billions of wrist movements, feeding these tiny machines day after day.

In the 1968-73 period SEIKO scaled this up like no one else. They had perfected reliable automatic calibres for the mass market until quartz arrived late 1973 emerging but not yet dominant. These weren't prestige pieces or fragile heirlooms. They were tough, Japanese-made mechanical watches cheap enough for ordinary workers, soldiers, office staff and students.

On the Collection

The folders tell the story. Rows of SEIKO 5s from the late 60s through the mid-70s — 6119-5000s in black, gold, dark blue, green, and gunmetal dials; the TV cases, hexagons, and occasional oddities like the 6309s and 7009s. No grand plan at the start. Just the idea of a watch that runs on your own motion. One return for poor timekeeping opened the floodgates. They kept appearing at the right price, in decent enough shape, and the habit formed.

What began as impulse has settled into something closer to curation. Affordable survivors from when these watches were tools, not investments. The supply of solid, good-looking examples is drying up, so each new addition gets the wear test and earns its place. The 6119-5000s remain the core, but the others — the recent 4227 included — fill in the broader picture of that mechanical high-water mark.

A small, personal record of motion turned into metal. Nothing more, nothing less.

The 6119 series, the 4227s and their relatives — TV cases, clean dials or Arabic numerals, day-date windows, solid 21-jewel movements ticking at 21,600 bph. They lived real lives on real wrists through factory shifts, commutes, pub nights and daily grind. Every tick accumulated the motion of the largest cohort of humans ever to live through rapid post-war industrial expansion. More moving parts, on more ordinary people, than any watchmaker had achieved before.

This window is unique. SEIKO pushed automatics hard right up to the early 70s. Then digital watches hit in 1973/74 and everything changed. The downturn was swift. Mechanical production for the masses collapsed as quartz and digital took over — cheaper, more accurate on paper, no need for all those moving parts. The SEIKO 5 automatic era of 1968-74 (give or take) stands as the peak of that mechanical democratisation before the shift. That's why good examples are still findable and affordable on eBay today. The numbers produced were huge, but the window was narrow before the industry pivoted. Survivors that weren't beaten to death or lost are out there, often undervalued.

It's democratised horology at its purest. The Swiss chased prestige. SEIKO delivered reliability and automatic winding to the everyman at a price that didn't require an inheritance. The result was a genuine flood of mechanical motion across the globe.

The appeal holds because it's honest engineering married to human routine. No mysticism, just steel, jewels, springs and the blunt truth that your daily life keeps it alive. Wear it or it stops — a quiet memento mori in wristwatch form.

The latest 4227 TV-screen arrival will get its wear test. A few days to check accuracy, then set the day/date. If it runs true, it'll slot into the rotation. Not a 6119, but another small heartbeat from that brief, high-volume mechanical peak.

One of the uglier facts the competent researcher learns about the murder of Princess Diana was that she survived the car crash and was finished off in the ambulance. There are simple facts corroborating this but the simpleton is most averse to simple facts and swallows the fake news narrative because the alternative is to troubling to contemplate.

My estimate is that at least 50 plus people were in on the assassination of Charlie Kirk that day but the key people were those who finished him off in the now missing vehicle he was transported are Frank Turek, Justin Davis, Dan Flood, Rick Cutler and Brian Harpole. The microphone explosive misfired and the conflicting testimony by Harpole and Turek about giving/not giving CPR is as follows:

Frank Turek (Kirk’s mentor) described CPR being initiated in the SUV during the roughly four-mile drive. He said he was leaning over the back seat yelling “Come on, Charlie” while others in the vehicle worked on him. The group included Turek, Justin Davis (driving), Dan Flood (front with GPS), Rick Cutler, and Brian Harpole. Turek noted they knew Kirk “wasn’t there” (i.e., already deceased) despite the efforts, and the door stayed open because Kirk was tall.

Conflicting detail from Brian Harpole (Kirk’s head of security, who was in the vehicle and later spoke publicly on the Shawn Ryan Show and elsewhere): Harpole stated the priority in the car was stopping the bleeding with direct pressure and packing, not CPR. He described the team focusing on haemorrhage control until they reached Timpanogos Regional Hospital.

Turek’s version appears in his interviews on Fox News/Hannity and similar outlets. Harpole’s version comes from his detailed podcast accounts. Both confirm the same core group was in the vehicle and go on to regale preposterous bystander interventions by themselves at the hospital.

Last month was a record million visitors to this chronicle. What's most interesting is that very little of that traffic comes from the UK and it's not my new posts that are read by many. It's all those years of conspiracy research sucking in the attention. Brazil is the top source, and so it follows the great awakening is most sanguine over there. What tickles me is unusual places like Bangladesh provided over 35K visitors, and so my appeal to them is this. Tulip Siddiq, sitting UK Labour MP for Hampstead and Highgate and former Treasury minister, faces arrest warrants and in-absentia convictions in Bangladesh on corruption charges.

A Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant for her in April 2025 as part of investigations into land allocation during her aunt Sheikh Hasina’s premiership. She was tried in absentia and sentenced on 1 December 2025 to two years in prison plus a 100,000 taka fine in one case involving alleged influence over state land plots for family members. Bangladeshi courts have since imposed further sentences, bringing the total to six years across three separate corruption cases. In February 2026 a court ordered authorities to request an Interpol red notice for her arrest.

What can I do to facilitate Tulip's repatriation to Bangladesh? We live in a golden age of corruption and a lot of criminal Bangladeshi money is in the UK.

For an extended period, Lord Daniel Finkelstein - via the account @dannythefink - has seen fit to mention my name approximately ninety times in public posts. On each occasion the insertion has carried the same accompanying descriptors: Jew-hater, antisemite, holocaust denier. One variant that recurs is the additional claim that the target calls the event the “holohoax" when I was careful to state this applied to the six million figure. The labels arrive ready-formed, detached from any sustained quotation or analysis of the actual writing and video evidence in question.

The pattern is striking for its duration and its asymmetry. A sitting peer, former newspaper executive, and regular columnist possesses resources of platform and attention that most writers do not. Directing a measurable fraction of those resources toward the repeated public tagging of a single independent blogger suggests either an unusually narrow conception of threat or a conviction that repetition itself will eventually produce the desired social or professional consequence. In practice the consequence has remained limited. The posts exist; the broader uptake has not followed in any sustained or consequential form. In fact quite the reverse.

The motivations remain a matter of inference rather than declaration. The output being policed covers theological history, Roman textual questions around early Christianity, and a long-standing critique of political Zionism as an arrangement of power rather than an ethnic essential. None of this output has included calls for violence or collective ethnic attribution. The consistent translation of that output into the standard dis-qualifiers therefore functions less as textual criticism and more as boundary enforcement: certain lines of historical or political argument are to be placed outside permissible discourse by pre-emptive naming.

The investment of time across dozens of interventions is the element that resists easy explanation. Each mention requires a decision to locate the name, to attach the descriptors, and to publish. The intended audience for these interventions appears to have been other participants in the same conversational threads as well as a general readership. My own stance toward the individual remains one of indifference rather than reciprocity. No parallel campaign of tagging, no compilation of past statements for public redistribution, no suggestion that personal history or communal affiliation renders the peer’s arguments inadmissible. Disagreement with the political project of Zionism - its territorial outcomes, its influence operations, its framing of criticism - does not require or produce personal hostility toward any particular holder of those views. The labels conflate the two categories by design.

Public reception, especially among younger observers, has shifted in ways that the labeling strategy does not appear to have arrested. The circulation of 5K HD footage documenting the genocide in Gaza — material that records the physical scale of destruction and the reported human toll reaching figures cited as high as 600,000 when indirect effects, missing persons, and restricted access for independent reporters are taken into account — has altered the terms on which appeals to singular historical sanctity are received. When the same descriptors are applied uniformly to anyone noting the footage or questioning proportionality, the descriptors lose granularity. The audience does not conclude that the footage is fabricated; it concludes that the labeling mechanism is over-extended. That conclusion is reached through direct visual evidence rather than through curated retrospectives, and it is reached most readily by those whose political formation post-dates the earlier consensus.

The record therefore shows a sustained effort at narrative containment through character designation. The effort has consumed platform time across multiple years and multiple dozens of interventions. It has produced some of the isolation or professional penalty that the volume of repetition might have been expected to generate. The target remains an online writer of no institutional standing, continuing to publish archival and analytical work without measurable contraction of access or audience. The asymmetry — one side expending sustained public effort, and resources, the other registering the effort and continuing — is the only durable outcome visible from the outside.

Lord Finkelstein retains his column, his peerage, and his capacity to allocate attention as he sees fit. If the allocation continues to include further mentions of the same name attached to the same descriptors, the pattern will simply extend - the Streisand effect if you will. The cost, measured in the credibility of the mechanism rather than in any single column inch, is already visible in the diminishing returns the mechanism now encounters among those who have seen the 5K material for themselves.

Danny wasn't the only prominent jew who piled in on me and I'll be documenting their efforts, in good time but the point is that technique is now obsolete and serves only to draw attention to the perpetrators of support for crimes against humanity.

This is far more odious than any historical dispute that needs protection from the law to enforce its iniquity. Hurty words vs live streamed dismemberment and slaughter of children? It's no contest to the decent human being. The indecent have no comprehension of this. Literally none at all.
