Whether it’s the ancient architecture scattered about the island, the fascinating culture of the people who live there, the authentic Italian cuisine or the glorious climate, Sardinia’s sure to please. And with nearly 2,000 km of dazzling coastline, it’s a beach lover’s dream. One of the best ways to explore and experience this beautiful island is on bike. Here are five reasons to add Sardinia to your cycling itinerary.

The Grottos

One of the most interesting things to be discovered on Sardinia is the multitude of grottos found there. These ancient caves offer a fascinating glimpse into the natural beauty of the island as it has been formed over millions of years. The Neptunes Grotto contains a series of underground caverns located just outside of Alghero. It can be accessed by boat or, if you’re brave, by taking the 654 steps down from Capo Caccio. The Bue Marino Grotto is accessible only by boat and is thought to have been once used as a place of worship during the Neolithic Age. Enjoy the brilliant rock formations or look for the elusive monk seal while you glide through.

If it’s stalagmites you’re interested in, the Grotto of Ispinigoli is a must-see. There is evidence of ancient human inhabitation there dating back as far as the prenuragic period. In fact, the famous “Cavern of the Virgins” is named for the human sacrifices thought to have once taken place there. It’s a place of incredible natural wonders and intriguing history.

Cagliari

The capital of Sardinia, this ancient city has a long and fascinating history spanning several civilizations. Not surprisingly, there are plenty of historical sites to see here, including the Basilica of San Saturnino, which is hailed as one of the most important Palaeo-Christian monuments on the island. The Cathedra of Cagliari was erected in the 13^th century and remains an exquisite testament to the variety of architectural styles used over the years. The oldest part of this charming city sits high atop a hill, overlooking the Gulf of Cagliari. It is also home to one of Italy’s longest beaches and some interesting and unique cuisine. There’s so much to do and see in this lovely city that it’s hard to fit it all in.

The Never-ending Coastline

One of the best features of Sardinia is the seemingly never-ending coastline. With sand and sea that stretches for nearly 2,000km, you’ll never be without a place to ride. And with the varying terrain, you’ll get to experience exhilarating cycling while also enjoying the beautiful surrounding landscape. Enjoy a leisurely ride along Costa Verde, sometimes called the “silent coast” because of the surrounding bushes that protect it, and the peaceful deer that often graze along the greenery. Take a break to swim in the glorious Mediterranean waters, considered by some to be the clearest in the world. Or take a spin through Capo Mannu and visit some of the quaint, friendly towns and try a taste of fresh local cuisine, like sea urchin. Su Nuraxi Nuraghe

This massive fortress located in Cagliari, is one of the most famous on the island and is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sardinia. The remains of the once flourishing structure are still mostly intact, with 14.10 m of the central tower still standing. There are also ruins of the surrounding village to explore. Experts disagree over the exact history of the building and the various huts strewn around it, but most believe they were constructed as defense structures in order to protect the territory. Regardless of their original purpose, a visit to the Su Nuraxi Nuraghe offers an incredible look back in time.

Environment

Sardinia is a nature-lovers dream, with 3 National Parks and 10 Regional Parks, covering a total of over 600,000 hectares of environmentally preserved territory. The island is also home to a wide variety of animals and plant life. The Sardinian people take environmental issues very seriously, with laws in place that prohibit any new building activities near forests, lakes or along the coast. They are also currently working on harnessing the power of the wind to be used for renewable energy on the island. There’s no better place to cycle where nature is so respected and cherished.

Everyone knows that some of the best beer and wine in the world comes from the country of Germany. But this amazing country offers so much more than world-class beverages. Ancient castles and formidable structures offer testimony to the country’s rich history while quaint restaurants offer exquisite dining and nightclubs provide the opportunity to relax, unwind and mingle with the locals. Friendly old villages welcome visitors with which they share their ancient traditions and unique culture. And with ample countryside and varying beautiful terrain, outdoor activities abound in Germany, from skiing to hiking and everything in between. Zwinger

One of the country’s most famous landmarks, this Dresden palace was commissioned by the great Augustus the Strong in the early 1700’s. This huge structure features 6 pavilions all connected by large galleries and a massive Crown Gate as its entrance, the palace’s best known feature. The exquisite statues on the gate were beautifully designed to represent the four seasons. Inside the palace are several museums featuring world famous works of art and ancient weaponry. It’s an incredible monument to behold and provides an excellent example of the country’s rich culture.

The Frauenkirche Church

Also located in Dresden, this Lutheran church, sometimes referred to as “Church of Our Lady” was originally constructed in 1726 but was sadly destroyed during WWII. For 40 years the ruins remained untouched until 1994, when plans were begun to reconstruct the old cathedral using its original building plans. Old was combined with new as original charred stones that were salvaged from the ruins were mixed with new, lighter ones to create a unique and historical recreation of the original church. Construction finished in 2005, and now this incredible building is completely restored and open to be admired by visitors.

Saxon Switzerland

Outdoor enthusiasts delight in this mountainous region, which offers excellent climbing opportunities amidst the impressive 1,000 peaks. The region also offers a beautiful national park that is home to an absolutely breathtaking botanical garden, Pflanzengarten Bad Schandau. The park also features several medieval castles and other ancient structures to visit, dating back as far as the Dark Ages. It’s a unique opportunity to commune with nature and experience fascinating historical finds at the same time.

Dresden Elbe Valley

A former UNESCO World Heritage Site, this lovely valley extends over 20 kilometers and is ideally located along the River Elbe. This area features fabulous landscapes, quaint villages and interesting works of architecture. The Pillnitz Castle and the nearby Blue Wonder Bridge, which stretches some 920 feet in length over the Elbe River, exhibit some of the country’s most impressive engineering and architectural feats. And the Katholische Hofkirche, a Roman Catholic Church, was once the place of worship for the former royal court. There is enough sightseeing, culture and history in this valley to please any visitor.

German Cuisine

Aside from the beautiful countryside and historical finds, Germany is also home to some of the most delicious cuisine in the world. Different regions feature varying styles, ingredients and dishes and offer a lovely contrast from one area to the next. Bravaria’s dishes are based around flour and Knödel, featuring unique plates like liver Knödel soup, Bierwurt sausage and Fleischplfanzerl, which are flat pan-fried dumplings made of minced meat while the Lower Saxon area uses potatoes in many of their meals, as well as kale, asparagus and a variety of fish dishes. Staple foods in Germany tend to be meat, fish and (of course) beer. One thing is for sure, you haven’t experienced Germany until you’ve tasted its delectable food.

Germany is by far one of Europe’s most interesting places to visit. A Little About the Giro d'Italia

The Giro d’Italia, more commonly known as “The Giro”, is one of the three Grand Tours, road bicycling races, held in May/early June. This three week long race travels primarily throughout Italy, but has ventured into neighboring countries from time to time. On May 13, 1909, 127 cyclists raced through the streets of Milan for the 1^st Giro d’Italir. Only 49 riders finished the 2448 kilometers with Italian Luigi Ganna winning overall. Over the next 100 years and 93 editions of the Giro, Italy riders would be victorious the majority of time.

Throughout the years many records have been made and broken, but some have stood the test of times. A few interesting Giro bests include:

· Most Giro d'Italia victories = 5 by Alfredo Binda, Fausto Coppi, and Eddy Merckx

· Smallest margin of victory = Fiorenzo Magni wins by 11 seconds over Ezio Cecchi

· Longest Giro d'Italia = 4,337 km in 1954

· Shortest Giro d'Italia = 2,245 km in 1909

· Most Giro stage victories = Mario Cipollini with 42 wins

· Most victories by country = Italy with 66 victories

A name that is always associated with the Giro is Alfredo Binda. Previously mentioned, he holds the record for the most Giro wins. That is not all the records he holds though. Binda has also won the most stage victories, 12, in one Giro and holds the record for the most consecutive stage wins, 8. He has won 41 total Giro stages in his career. Binda proved to be such an untouchable Giro contender that after his 4^th win the race organizers paid him not to race the following year so other riders could have a chance to win the pink leaders jersey. He returned for a few more years and one more tour win before he was forced to retire after a nasty fall in the 1934 Giro. Needless to say, Binda will always be remembered as a talented cyclist.

The Giro is, needless to say, a difficult race and certainly gets riders as well as spectators anxious for the following grand tour, Le Tour de France.

5 Essentials Every Cyclist Should Remember

Ask any cycling enthusiast and they’ll tell you that enjoying a good ride is one of the most incredible and exhilarating experiences on earth. The challenge of a good route, the feel of the wind on your face, your adrenaline pumping, and the opportunity to see fantastic sights and landscapes along the way. True cyclists know that biking isn’t just a recreational activity; it’s a way of life. They’ll also tell you there are certain important things to always keep in mind in order to remain safe and enjoy a comfortable, healthy ride. That said, here are 5 essentials that every cyclist should remember.

Safety – Road ID and Cell Phone

As with any sport, your safety and wellbeing should be your first priority when cycling. It’s certainly our number one concern. As such, every rider should carry a cell phone with them while riding. If riding in a different country, such as France, and you don’t have international cell phone access, be sure to carry a list of emergency phone numbers on you. Road ID is an excellent way to carry your information. This is an accessory that can be worn on your wrist, ankle or shoe and is engraved with whatever pertinent information you choose.

Comfort – Seat and Pedals

Next to safety, your second most important concern when riding (especially long distances or rough terrain) is your comfort. Use a familiar, comfortable seat that has been broken in and is suited for your body. Believe us – your behind with thank you! You’ll also want to be sure to use pedals and shoes that you are used to. Some people prefer clip less, cages or flat pedals – and to each his own. Go with what you like and what makes riding most comfortable for you. Our tours allow you the flexibility of bringing your own saddles and pedals, making the rides even more customized to your needs.

Maintenance – Tools

In a perfect world every ride would go off without a hitch. You’d never get a flat tire or experience mechanical issues with your bike and you’d always reach your destination without incident. Unfortunately, things may go wrong during your ride so you have to be prepared to handle problems as they arise. For instance, flats are common but are easy to fix with the right tools. Be sure you pack the following items in your seat bag, just in case:

· Patch kit

· Spare tube

· CO2 inflator

· Presta-Schrader Adapter

It may also be a good idea to bring a mini multi-tool that functions as a screwdriver and a wrench just in case you need to make adjustments to your bike.

Health – Water and Snacks

The key to a good ride is staying hydrated and energized. Carrying an ample supply of water with you during your ride is essential as is bringing along a few snacks. We recommend bringing a nutrition bar or a GU pack to keep you energized during your ride. Nutrition and hydration are important and can give you that extra boost you need to make it up that tough climb or over challenging terrain. Conversely, it can break you if ignored so don’t forget to bring the fuel your body needs.

Navigation – GPS or Road Book

We provide detailed route/road books on all of our tours, which include color coded information, color maps, highlighted routes, orientation points and easy to follow directions. Everything you need to keep you on the right track. Additionally, we also provide GPS units which can give even more detailed information such as turn by turn directions, vertical profile, distance, and speed. Simply hopping on your bike and seeing where it takes you can certainly be an exciting adventure, but if you have a specific destination in mind or want to make sure you can find your way back, road books and GPS units are great tools to have. We certainly think so, which is why we provide both on all of our tours.

Of all the outdoor activity choices in the world, cycling is by far one of the most invigorating and enjoyable. It allows you to enjoy nature, exercise your body, challenge yourself and experience a variety of sights and destinations in a way that simply can’t be matched. May 12 marks the kick-off for Czech Republic’s 2011 Beer Festival. This famous festival is be open Mon – Sun 12 pm to 12 am until May 28. For 17 days, festival attendees will have the opportunity to try over 50 brands of Czech beer.

A little bit about what to expect at the festival: There will be 200 men and women servers dressed in Czech national costumes. The three tents, which each hold a capacity up to 10,000 people, will have a stage with entertaining programs and different top chefs making the local gastronomy. This event is said to be the largest gastronomical event of 2011! To speed up the purchasing process, the festival has its own currency, tolar. With so many beers to try, you will want plenty of tolar in hand.

Immerse yourself in the Czech culture and enjoy a nice pint of their many traditional beers. It’s all about meeting new people, enjoying the unique atmosphere and having a good time.

Traveling can be many things – fun, exhilarating, relaxing, even life changing. Sharing the experience with good friends can make it that much greater. However, people often don’t consider that certain factors, like spending a long period of time together can change the dynamics of a friendship. Additionally, different people prefer different activities, so disagreements may arise during a trip creating a potentially uncomfortable situation. Before choosing your travel buddies and booking your trip, consider the following helpful tips.

Choose 2-4 friends

It may seem like a great idea to get a big group together for a vacation, after all, the more the merrier, right? But keep in mind that the more people you travel with, the more differing opinions and emotions you will have to deal with. Keeping the list down to a more manageable 2-4 people is a better idea. It’s also important that the people you choose to travel with share the same interests as you, and that you are comfortable being around them for however long your trip is scheduled for. Once you’ve carefully chosen your travel buddies, discuss your itinerary together prior to travel so everyone is on the same page and there is less chance of disagreements.

Figure out finances ahead of time

Discussing money with friends can be a somewhat touchy subject, but avoiding it can lead to misunderstandings and frustration. Before you leave for your trip, sit down with your fellow travelers and discuss such topics as whether you will be splitting the cost of things, like meals, or if each person will pay separately. Planning to wait until the last minute to make your summer travel plans, think again. Airfares are increasing by 10% to 15% compared to last year in response to the escalating fuel costs. We want you to get the best deal possible which is why we, along with airline analysts, recommend booking no fewer than 60 days ahead. These changes are affecting the airline rules we have grown familiar with in previous years. Money Magazine’s April 2011 edition breaks it down in their “How to Find Hidden Airfare Deals.” Here’s a quick summary to help you in your planning.

Old Rule: Shop one of the major online travel agencies, like Expedia or Orbitz.

New Rule: Start with meta-search engines, like Kayak.com, Fly.com, and TravelAdvisor.com, which aggregate fares from a number of sources and direct you to sites where you can buy them. Many airlines have withdrawn from online travel agencies (OTAs) for various reasons. Don’t forget to also check the airlines that aren’t listed on meta-engines or OTAs, such as Southwest.

Old Rule: If you spy a good fare, jump on it immediately.

New Rule: Be picky about when you buy, using tools that help you find the best time. Bing.com/travel has a price predictor function that determines whether prices are likely to go up, down of remain the same. The predictions aren’t perfect, but if you’re willing to take the risk you may save a few bucks.

Old Rule: Be loyal to one airline so that you can rack up frequent-flier points.

New Rule: If the price isn’t low enough for you at the 60-day mark, try an “opaque fare” where you don’t know the airline, the departure time, or the number of stops until you buy. You know these sites as Priceline.com and Hotwire.com.

Yes, many of these new rules are a gamble, but if your dates are flexible and you are on a strict budget they are worth a look. One other tip to save money while flying is packing light. Remove half the clothes in your suitcase, odds are you won’t wear it, and maybe you can save the over $20 fee for checked bags and carry on. Gaelic as a language is also sometimes referred to as Irish, and is the national and first official language of Ireland. While it’s now only spoken by a minority of the people who live in the Republic, there are still some 72,000 residents who use Gaelic as a daily language. The government has designated specific districts, called Gaeltachts, in which Irish is the primary dialect. Time to Celebrate...It's Mardi Gras Day!!

Some call it Carnival, others Mardi Gras, a handful refer to it as Fat or Shrove Tuesday, whatever you choose to call the day before Ash Wednesday the celebrations and meaning is still relatively the same. Mardi Gras is the last opportunity for celebrations and indulgence in food and drink before the temperance of Lent, which is a time of sacrifice for Jesus in the Christian religion. Although Mardi Gras refers to a specific day, the term often encompasses a much longer period of celebrations leading up to Mardi Gras Day. The Carnival season is marked by spectacular parades featuring floats, pageants, elaborate costumes, masked balls, and dancing in the streets.

Everywhere around the world puts a twist on the celebratory activities. New Orleans, Louisiana has the most popular celebration in the United States. Streamers and flags are hung, traditional Mardi Gras colored beads, purple (symbolic of justice), green (symbolic of faith) and gold (symbolic of power), are thrown and king’s cake is eaten throughout the city weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday.

Many European countries celebrate the season as well. In fact, in Binche, Belgium the Mardi Gras festival is the most important day of the year. The "Carnival of Binche" was proclaimed one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Carnevale is the traditional pre-Lenten celebration in Italy. There are traditional foods and dolci (sweets) distinctively associated with carnevale in Italy, including fritelle, crespelle, castagnole, chiacchere, bugie, galani, fritole, sanguinaccio and tortelli, among others.

Other cities famous for Mardi Gras celebrations include Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Barranquilla, Colombia, Sydney, Australia, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Quebec City, Canada; and Mazatlán, Sinaloa in Mexico. Mardi Gras or Carnival is one of the most popular events around the world. Wherever you are you can find some exciting celebration so join in on the merriment and give into your temptations one last time before Lent begins.

When it comes to world travel, the Czech Republic may not be the first destination that comes to mind. Prague

The capital of the Czech Republic, Prague offers visitors a little bit of everything, from quaint, historic towns to architectural masterpieces to relaxing spas. At the very center of the city stands the impressive Prague castle, which holds the record for the largest castle area in the world. Another incredible site is the Charles Bridge, a Gothic structure made from stone which connects the Old Town with Malá Strana. New Town is Prague’s main commercial district; however, belying its name, the area was actually constructed over 600 years ago. It contains a multitude of museums, theatres and plenty of shops to browse through. Another lovely place to cycle through is the beautiful residential area known as Vinohrady. Karlovy Vary Colonnades

These extraordinary structures, which consist of long sequences of columns, are an incredible testament of true classical architecture. There are five such structures throughout the area of Karlovy Vary: the Park Colonnade, the Market Colonnade, the Chateau Colonnade, the Mill Colonnade and the Hot Spring Colonnade. The last two are probably the most noteworthy for both their impressive construction and for the natural hot spring fountains they house. While you’re there, take a drink from the waters of the Vřídlo, which have long been believed to have curative powers.

Cesky Krumlov

This ancient town has roots that date back as far as the Older Stone Age (70,000 - 50,000 B.C.) and has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Vltava River winds its way right through the meadows of this lovely town and was once a primary means of both transportation and trade in the region. Cesky Krumlov is also home to one of the most important historical sites in Eastern Europe – the State Castle. Constructed between the 14^th and 19^th centuries, this incredible piece of architecture is very well preserved and in recent years was named both a National Monument and a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Monument. It is one of the largest castles in Europe and quite impressive to visit.

Chateaux of Lednice and Valtice

Built in the 16^th century, this Renaissance chateau named Lednice is filled with rich history and ancient Romanticism. The interior is breathtaking, with its intricate wood carvings, balconies, parlors and baroque walls. The Valtice Chateau is similarly beautiful. Together they make up what’s known as the Lednice-Valtice complex. Located on the banks of the Dyje River, they are incredible and unique pieces of history.

Towns (great to bike through)

In addition to the amazing landmarks and architectural masterpieces already mentioned, the Czech Republic is also home to several charming towns that are perfect for biking through. The town of Třeboň is a lovely historical town that welcomes tourists. After a leisurely ride, be sure to take advantage of Třeboň’s relaxing spa services. Mikulov is a small town that borders Austria. There is a lot to do and see in this small town, including the historical churches, castles and chateaux. The Creation of Valentine's Day

How did Valentine’s Day become one of the most romantic days around the world? Many participants are unaware of how February 14^th came to be the “day of love”. Its origins date back to the ancient Roman Empire when February 15^th began the festival called “Feast of Lupercalia” which honored the Roman God of Agriculture. A custom followed the Feast to bring young boys and girls together. On the eve of the festival, February 14^th, a piece of paper with a girl’s name on it was put into a jar and the young men would pick one. The girl they picked would be paired with him for the duration of Lupercalia, usually a year. Most would end up falling in love and later marry. This tradition set the mood for the Valentine’s Day we know today, but this isn’t what made the day remembered around the world.

Emperor Claudius II of Rome found it hard to get soldiers to fight for him and felt it was because the men did not want to leave their wives and families behind while they fought a long bloody war. Therefore, Claudius cancelled all marriages and engagements in Rome. A romantic priest, known as Saint Valentine, defied the Emperor and secretly married the Roman lovers. When his tactics were discovered he was imprisoned and put to death on February 14^th. While in jail he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and in his farewell letter to her he signed it “From your Valentine”. Over the period of time, the martyr, Saint Valentine, became the patron saint of lovers and they began to celebrate Valentine's Day as a day of romance by exchanging love notes and simple gifts such as flower.

France and England have another belief associated with Valentine’s Day. The people during the Middle Ages believed birds began to mate halfway through the second month of the year, February 14^th. Furthermore, it is said that the Valentine’s Day cards gained their popularity in France, when Charles, Duke of Orleans, who was captured at the Battle of Agincourt in 1415 wrote a poem or ‘Valentine' to his wife while imprisoned in the Tower of London. More Valentine’s Day poems were written and the tradition has carried on through the years to present day.

Valentine’s Day is celebrated much the same way around the world. However, each country makes the day unique by calling it something different or has added a special tradition over the years. In the UK and France sending cards, flowers, chocolates and other gifts is the traditional way of acknowledging Valentine’s Day, referred to as “Saint Valentin” in France. In Spain, Valentine's Day is known as "San Valentín" and is celebrated the same way as in France, although in Catalonia it is largely superseded by similar festivities of rose and/or book giving on La Diada de Sant Jordi (Saint George's Day). In Portugal it is more commonly referred to as "Dia dos Namorados" (Lover's Day / Day of those that are in love with each other).

Valentine’s Day is widely celebrated by lovers, however over the years the day has shifted to less of a romantic day to a more admiration day. The festival is celebrated to express love to anyone we are close to. Therefore, many celebrate Valentine's Day with friends, siblings, parents, grandparents, teachers or anyone who made a difference to our lives with their affection and support. Italy's New Additions

Visitors will find Italy a more structured country with many changes taking effect in 2011. Many of these apply to frequently visited regions and sites benefiting tourists.

Rome:

For example, in Rome the Vatican Museum’s new online reservation system is up and running. The museum has also extended its hours on Fridays in April through October from 7-11 pm for reservations only. Expect to see the museum’s Etruscan Rooms, which are now open after a long renovation.

Also in Rome, the famous Coliseum is being cleaned from top to bottom. Lights will also be installed which will open up previously closed off sections to visitors.

Tiburtina, Rome’s second largest train station, is undergoing renovations to house more high speed trains. Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV), a new company, will run one of their high speed trains through the station along with Eurostar Italia bullet train which currently stops at this station.

Pisa:

A big tourist attraction, the Leaning Tower has extended their summer hours making it possible to tour the landmark and survey the Field of Miracles like never before. Their reservations system and organizational methods while visiting the tower have been running smoothly.

Venice:

Dogana traghetto, ferry gondola, is back and shuttling visitors across the mouth of the Grand Canal. Don’t miss this exciting ride!

The new People Mover monorail is another new device making visitor transportation easier. The automated People Mover departs every few minutes carrying passengers from the parking lot at Tronchetto to Piazzale Roma in three minutes.

The Punta della Dogana, a new art museum, recently opened in the former Customs House. The displays change every year featuring more cutting edge 21^st-century pieces by newer artists.

New Changes in Spain for 2011

Spain is continuing to undergo exciting changes to many destinations throughout the country. The government has banned smoking in all closed public spaces; this applies to mostly restaurants and bars, hotel rooms are not included in these restrictions. This isn’t all that has changed in Spain, however.

Barcelona:

Antoni Gaudí's famous and unfinished cathedral is currently undergoing changes.
The nave of the Sagrada Familia, which the first floor was completed just before Pope Benedict XVI’s visit in November, was consecrated by the pope and open for daily Mass.

Madrid:

The city continues building new Metro stations, making streets more pedestrian friendly, and making other infrastructure improvements. Its central square, Puerta del Sol, is now largely car- and bus-free.
The Valley of the Fallen memorial, which commemorates the victims of Spain's civil war (1936 to 1939), will reopen sometime in 2011.

Granada's Alhambra:

The Hall of Kings in the Palacios Nazaries is being refurbished and will remain closed until it is finished. The 12 lion statues in the Alhambra's Courtyard of the Lions will return in 2011 after a long restoration.

If you ask the weekend bike rider to name the different parts of a bike you may get a response like tires, chain, handlebars, seat, pedals, brakes, etc. If you ask an avid cyclist the same question they may start spitting out words like derailleur, fork, rims, crankset, etc. Don’t be discouraged if your face is making a confused look while reading those terms. Frame = This is the main component of a bicycle, the wheels and other components are attached to the frame. It consists of:

Seat tube = the roughly vertical tube in a bicycle frame running from the seat to the bottom bracket
Down tube = tube on a bicycle frame that runs from the head tube to the bottom bracket
Top tube = frame member leading from steerer tube to seat tube
Head tube = the tube of a bicycle frame that contains the headset
Fork = a mechanical assembly that integrates a bicycle’s frame to its front wheel and handlebars, allowing steering by virtue of its steerer tube.
Seat stay = small tubes running from top of seat tube to rear dropouts.
Chain stay = pair of tubes that runs from the bottom bracket to the rear fork ends

Wheel:

Front/Rear Hub = center part of a bicycle wheel. It consists of an axle, bearings and a hub shell.
Spokes = rods connecting the center of a wheel to the rim
Rim = a large hoop attached to the outer ends of the spokes of the wheel that holds the tire and tube
Valve Stem = port for adding or releasing air from the inner tube.

Chain = It consists of interlinking pins, plates and rollers that transmits power from the pedals to the rear wheel, thus propelling it

Chain ring = It allows the chain to transfer power to the wheel. They usually have teeth spaced to engage every link of the chain as it passes over.

Crankset = It consists of one or more chain rings attached to the crankarm that allows the rider’s leg motion to move the chain therefore making the back wheel spin and the bike to move

Front/Rear Derailleur = These consist of a chain, multiple chain rings (sprockets/gears) of different sizes, and a device to move the chain from one ring to another. When a rider changes gears using their levers while pedaling, the change in cable tension moves the chain-guide from side to side, “derailing” the chain onto different rings, known commonly as changing gears.

Brake = It is used to slow down or stop a bicycle. Most bike brake systems contain of three main components: an instrument for the rider to apply the brakes, like the brake levers; another device for transmitting that signal, such as brake cables; and the brake mechanism itself to press against the rear wheel creating friction and allowing the bike to come to a stop.

When I found out all the instruments that went into making my bike move, I no longer looked at it as a device that got me from point A to B, but an exceptional intricate machine. How about you?
