During the last weeks of 2011, via a dedicated video-cast, Markus Schulz revealed that the setting for his 2012 City compilation would be the sprawling electronic dancetropolis of Los Angeles.

On making the announcement, Markus said: “electronic dance music has blown up huge in the United States this past 12 months. One of the main reasons driving that is the scene in Los Angeles, where a new generation of clubbers are uniting with long-term fans and creating one of the most passionate scenes anywhere on the globe. I’ve played there many times in my career, at the Monster Massive festivals, the Electric Daisy Carnivals and 3 years New Years Eves at Together As One, and they’ve all been so memorable in their own way!”

Following the broadcast Markus began his musical mission to embody the dance-heart of one of the biggest cities on the planet and build a mix testament to it.

As is now the City series’ custom path, ‘LA ’12’ discs are opened by Markus himself, who infuses each mix with an atmospherically charged overture. Under his San Andreas Soundlab alias, ‘Hollywood Boulevard’ teleports the listener straight down into the early evening thrive of the iconic Tinsel-town sidewalk. As the sun starts to set, the rush of the passing traffic melts into long expectant synth sweeps, which, beat-free, beautifully capture the palpable anticipatory buzz of a long LA night ahead.

Having chalked up a sucession of top drawer releases on Enhanced Progressive in 2011, Indonesian producer LTN returns to supply the first release of 2012 on the label.

Ordinary People is a track that shouts summer - groovy bassline, warm chords and sparkling melodies are all in place, and finished off with the crisp vocals.

First up on remix duties is another producer who is no stranger to Enhanced Progressive, Anhken. Anhken adds a clubbier feel to the production, with techy percussion and washes of huge synths filing out the sound, as he builds the track towards its huge climax.

Those venturing through EDM’s wilder, lesser-charted lands this month, prepare to make a pit stop at Marcel Woods’ new audio enterprise. Those of an imaginative disposition will find themselves well accommodated! On ‘Open All Hours’ he connects the missing musical link between artist longplayer and remix album.

His latest CD opens for business with the Woodsman chopping some new remix Treatments for a selection of his own floor-slams. Right out of the gate Marcel hits ‘3Stortion’ with a major adrenaline shot, re-firing it with a rocking new sonic-chassis and applying plenty of phase and delay to its mainline. ‘Everything’s stream of vocal consciousness meanwhile receives an beefy re-rub, courtesy of its hyper-catchy bleeping riff-line, while ‘Lemon Tree’ is boosted with a triple broadside of pianos, 303s and synthesizers.

Marcel straps 2003’s ‘Time Is Running Out’ to the gurney and trollies it into remix-rehab too. Recalibrated to 2012 levels, with a lean, stripped-down/jacked-up electro-house engine, it’s ready to be discovered by a new club generation. Back in the here-and-now, ‘Black Angus’ - Woods’s new single - puts in a grandstanding appearance. Power-packed with crisp percussion, house-baiting synth stabs, big hoover FX and its “killer” vocal shouts, the 100th release on his Musical Madness label is pure, distilled, 100% proof Marcel.

So far, so Woods’, right? Well now Marcel’s ushered you into this musical motel, its time to get familiar with the rest of the staff and guests. Dub Tech records star Chris Schweizer has re-spun ‘Accelerate’ into a prog-trance club-buster, with the Argentinian starting out all deep and moody before un-caging the hard drums and forceful synths.

Happy to pour you up a drink or several in the motel’s saloon are Bassjackers’ Marlon Flohr and Ralph van Hilst, who’ve spiked ‘Inside Me’ with a colossal cyclonic mainline synth and maxed the impact of its vox for good measure. Also in town for this sound convention is Sweden’s Jonas Stenberg, who’s applied a striking strident heart to ‘Cherry Blossom’ and Ken Loi who brings a searing no-nonsense Hard Style structure to ‘The Bottle’.

Being ‘Open All Hours’ takes teamwork and there’s no shortage of that happening here. On ‘Scream’ Marcel gets studio-side with Marco V for the first time to create a dancefloor wrecking ball that’ll put a hole in the side of many a club. Following ‘Don’t Ditch’, their first collaboration together (which is also included on ‘Open All Hours’), motel handyman Tiësto has completed a major rebuild of ‘Advanced’.

EDM "Stand As One" - Family Tribute to the Philippines:

EDM Stand As One is created by the people, for the people, in the Electronic Dance Music Industry.

Founded by Elleah, an EDM Artist / Singer / Songwriter, for the main purpose of sharing videos or music dedicated or as a tribute to a good cause. Tribute as such can raise funds for people in need all over the world.

"This all started way when Haiti happened, then Japan. I felt like, I had to do something more than just donate. But I didn't know what and how... so I just sat there and felt terrible..." Elleah explained.

Then on December 17th, 2011, Typhoon Washi (also known as Sendong) devastated the southern side of the Philippines (Iligan City/Mindanao) which left almost 2000 people dead, including children, and thousands homeless.

"As soon as I heard about my country, I thought, that's it! I will not sit here and watch this. I just didn't feel it was good enough to donate money. I said to myself, there's got to be something else I can do. These are my people." Elleah added.

She immediately wrote the song "Stand As One" which is produced by David Reed (half of Tritonal) as a tribute to her people.

"The idea was to do whatever it takes! I am an EDM artist and so why not reach out to my fellow artists in the industry and ask for help. I didn't care if I looked desperate, I'm sure some laughed, I still sent that e-mail to every person I can think of in the EDM industry."

Elleah sent out 115 e-mails and waited patiently for responses.

"Some were too busy, or traveling, and some jumped right on it!"

The first person who said "YES! Defintely!" was Nadia Ali (a huge EDM Artist) and Raz Nitzan (a well known songwriter in the industry) and from there, she knew she can do it.

Just like every other projects out there, there were of course some disappointments of being turned down. However; Elleah knew that she can make it work.

On January 17th, "Stand As One" video will launch on YouTube featuring EDM artists around the world...

"There are good people out there with extra-ordinary hearts! I am very happy with the turn out and I can't thank them enough. You will know soon who these people are!"

This is a tribute from the EDM Family to the victims of Typhoon Washi in the Philippines.

On December 17th, 2011, Philippines was devastated by typhoon Washi. Just 10 days after (Dec. 27th), the death toll was reported as nearly 1300 and hundreds more missing. The typhoon left many homeless.
