Lizzie, it’s a great honour to be speaking with you again, it was just over a year ago our last interview was published (See Here). How have things been since then? 2013 treating you well so far?

Hello :-) It's so nice to be catching up Pure Bliss Vocals - I honestly can't believe a year has flown by since we last caught up! I really have had an amazing 12 months - looking back I have certainly fitted a lot in. The highlights for me have included headline DJ shows in New York and the Cayman Islands, alongside several shows at Ministry of Sound in London for The Gallery and a Live PA with StoneBridge. I've been busy in the studio and have released new singles with Robbie Rivera (It's A Feeling on Juicy Music), George Acosta (Like Home on Black Hole Recordings) and Jesse Voorn (To The Stars on Ego). I also launched my Curiousity Club record label in December of last year. Our first two singles have been really well received with support from the likes of Robbie Rivera and StoneBridge, with DMC BuzzChart and Music week chart positions and hitting number 1 on Beatport new releases, which I am delighted about.

For anyone unaware of you Lizzie, and is curious to find out more, tell us a little about yourself and what you do? As you are not just a vocalist within the EDM scene.

It's definitely fair to say I do have a few musical strings to my bow! I am a vocalist, songwriter, DJ and producer and I also manage my Curiousity Club label, which consists of a monthly radio show, the record label itself and special showcase club nights in London. Not everyone knows that I actually write the lyrics and melodies of all my songs, and I also record and produce them in The Curious Studios. Every day is jam packed full of music for me, whether I am writing, recording, editing, producing my radio show, liaising with producers on remixes or preparing for shows and tours - I live and breath music and feel truly blessed with all the amazing opportunities that come my way.

Your record label “The Curiousity Club” is now live and up & running. Can you share with us a little about the Label? What the signature sound is and future plans? Also if you had any advice to someone starting a label, what would it be?

Setting up my Curiousity Club record label was something I have always wanted to do and I'm delighted that the label is doing so well after only our second release. I love having creative input in every stage of bringing a song to life - from writing those first lyrics in the studio, to commissioning the remixes, seeing it hit the digital shelves and then getting the feedback from fans - it's an amazing feeling to see your work come to fruition. In the last few years it's come to my attention that some of my fans who liked my songs didn't know I DJ'd and likewise, those people who were coming to see me DJ didn't know that I was the singer and writer on a lot of the tracks I play! So the signature sound of the Curiousity Club is going to be the sound of Lizzie Curious: roof-raising house music - showcasing a wide variety of what I hope are captivating songs, with very talented producers remixing the tracks to bring my music to a wider audience of house music lovers! I'm privileged to work with some great people, from my amazing designer to my distributors - they all play a very important part in the Curiousity Club label and I love working with my team. Curiousity Club is getting big support from the likes of Robbie Rivera, StoneBridge, Jonathan Ulysses, Oliver Lang, Caroline D'Amore, Miss Nine, we're receiving airplay all over the world and most importantly, fantastic feedback from our fans! Our next release, out at the end of June, is a collaboration between myself and Miami-based producer DMS12 - you will hear a different side of Lizzie Curious on 'Hold On Tight', and the remixes by Dolly Rockers and Matt Joko are the business!

Our label club nights in London are also going brilliantly well - we have seasonal residency at one of London's most popular Sunday venues: a crazy club called Gigalum, which is well known for being the cause of many people not making it into work on a Monday morning ;0) Our last event in March was insanely good, each DJ took it to a new level and for my closing set even the bouncers came up to tell me it was one of the best they have ever heard. We are back there on 16th June with our roof-raising house music, show-stopping DJs and electric atmosphere - make sure you come and join us if you are in town!

As for the advice I would give to anyone setting up a label - I would say allow yourself way more time than you think you will need. I've found it's important to really plan ahead with each release - I would say allow yourself an extra 2 week's lead time on top of what you originally estimate per release. Also, I remain deeply appreciative of the fantastic advice from fellow music industry peers which has been invaluable to me, so don't be afraid to reach out for advice from people you respect and make the most of any networking opportunities that come your way.

The first release on your label “The Curiousity Club” was your own track “Butterflies”, which also featured a remix from StoneBridge. Tell us about the track?

For the first single on my label it was important to me to release a single that had a really positive feel to it - I feel I am known for my DJ shows having a really uplifting quality, so I wanted to try and bring some joy through my record label too. The feeling you get when you hear an uplifting song can be something really special, so I wanted to try and bring this to other people with my first release. I love the sentiment behind Butterflies and thought it would be the perfect track to launch the Curiousity Club label with. StoneBridge gave me such positive feedback when he heard Butterflies and his remix took the song to a whole new level. I'll never forget seeing him play it to thousands of people at the Hed Kandi Amsterdam Dance Event, the crowd reaction blew me away!

Most recently you released “I’m Not Drowning” - a stunning chilled out house track with remixes by Ministry of Sound's Tim Cullen and the Luv Gunz. Perfect for the summer! Feel free to share a little insight into the song and what’s the story behind the lyric?

I originally wrote, sung and produced I'm Not Drowning back in 2007 and always felt it was a very powerful and unique song. As for the story behind the lyrics, since listeners have their own interpretations on songs and lyrics, I think it's important that these remain intact… I wrote it to have many meanings and parallels… so regarding the story behind the lyrics, for once, my lips are sealed ;-) Since launching my label Curiousity Club I thought this would be a great opportunity to release 'I'm Not Drowning' with some fantastic new remixes, as I really wanted the song to have a chance to shine and to be heard by more people around the world. For the remixes, I chose Ministry of Sound resident Tim Cullen, who took the track in a totally different direction giving it an amazing tech-house groove, whilst the Luv Gunz (who did such a fantastic job on their remix of Butterflies) created a massive euphoric EDM stormer with a very powerful riff. Along with the blissful Balearic vibe of the house re-edit and the original chill out song, I felt it was a really strong package. When we hit #1 on Beatport new releases (in both the progressive house and chill out genres), StoneBridge invited me to perform a live PA of the Luv Gunz remix during his recent show in London. Singing live and feeling the connection of the song with the crowd was a wonderful experience - I'm looking forward to doing many more live PA's.

DJing is also a massive part of your life. Where have your DJing gigs taken you since we last spoke - can you share with us any experiences?

On stage I feel my ten years experience as a DJ gives me a really great ability to interact with and read the crowd - I truly love what I do and fans always tell me how much they enjoy seeing a DJ with so much energy and passion. I always feel it's such a privilege to perform and I play every set as if it were my last! Being able to engage and interact with the crowd is an amazing feeling - and playing your own tracks out is the best way to really gage how they are sounding. One particular show that really stands out for me was my Halloween gig at Deity in New York alongside my H3LIUM crew - which also happened to fall on my birthday weekend. There was something absolutely electric in the air, the crowd were absolutely insane (in a good way) and about 20 minutes into my set the room was filled with hundreds light up LED foam sticks as everyone fist-pumped in time to the beats!

You’ve also been playing numerous gigs including The Gallery, Ministry Of Sound. What’s it like to be behind the decks at the Ministry of Sound?

Ministry of Sound is a dream venue to perform at, I have been visiting the club myself for at least ten years as a clubber, so it's fantastic to be behind the decks providing the music and seeing everyone dance. I have played in the 103 room several times recently - the sound system is second to none and the crowd just fantastic - I get such a buzz out of knowing I'm performing at one of the world's most iconic clubs alongside the best DJ talent.

If I’m not mistaken you recently just attended the Cayman Islands Winter Music Festival. It looked fantastic and such beautiful surroundings. How was it?

This year's CIWMF was absolutely amazing! This was my fifth time performing in the Cayman Islands and I have to say every time it just gets better and better. Grand Cayman really is little slice of paradise with the most stunning beaches, and the fantastic party people give everyone such a geniune warm welcome - it feels like a second home to me now! Every year the CIWMF has two fantastic nights of festival on the gorgeous Seven Mile Beach, where I played alongside StoneBridge and Ministry of Sound's Tim Cullen, Billy Corduroy and lots of local talent. Then the festival closes with a special Boat Party which sold out about 2 weeks in advance and I have to say, DJing on a boat cruising out on the Caribbean Sea, with the sun shining down and a whole load of house music aficionados going crazy to your music is just fantastic!

Also any exciting performances planned for the year ahead?

Yes, very much so! First up, I am heading to Ibiza on 21st May to take part in some filming for a TV show which will incorporate DJ shows at some amazing places on the White Isle. Alongside my Curiousity Club label party on 16th June in London, I am heading out to Houston, USA on 21 June to perform two dates for an exclusive weekender event - on Friday night I will be performing a Live PA and on Saturday I am honoured to be headlining an exclusive pool party alongside my H3LIUM DJ crew which is going to be hot hot hot! Additionally I am just firming up some more dates for Ibiza and London, so watch this space.

Each month you host your own radio show too - bringing listeners your blend of the hottest House music. Tell us about the show and what listeners can expect to hear? I’m guessing it’s the first place to hear all the exclusives from you? Where can we listen/stream it?

My Curiousity Club radio show is an hour long journey through the hottest house music. I wanted to be able to connect with dance music lovers around the world and felt putting out a radio show would be the perfect way to do this - it also gives me a chance to showcase my new bootlegs and of course my own new singles out to my fans. I also like being able to support work by other producers that I really love and I also drop in a Curious classic at the end of every show, it's fun to take a little trip into the archives of my studio! I regularly hear from people who tune in from around the world which I just love! Another track I love is “Hypnotized” which you collaborated alongside Paul Vinitsky with. Whats the story behind the track and how did you and Paul come to work together?

Paul contacted me when he heard the Cosmic Gate remix of Departures, he kindly said he really felt inspired by my voice and would love to work with me. When I heard the musical elements to his tracks I knew we could come up with something special, and when he send me this particular backing I just knew it was the right one. You tend to get an instinctive feeling of when the track is right for you and I really fell in love with the mysterious, exotic and somewhat seductive vibe of the instrumental he sent me. It really inspired me to write something in that style and experiment with putting middle eastern style riffs and ad-libs into my singing. I definitely feel on this track the vocals hit my 'sweet spot' and made an alluring combination with his music. Paul has just released his Invincible remixes, and the Jay P remix takes the track into a really beautiful progressive number that I really love.

“Departures” with Robbie Rivera was a massive hit for you. I hear you're working on a follow up for Juicy Music. The track is entitled “I Surrender”. Hows it coming along - can you share with us anything about the track yet? Any remixes included in the single too?

Well you will be pleased to hear the track is finished - I definitely feel that 'I Surrender' is really something special and if you liked Departures, I think you will love this. It will be coming out as a solo release on Juicy Music and the main mix is by Robbie Rivera himself and is epic. I have also just finished working on my own remix and the release date is planned for July 15th, so stay tuned!

What other vocal projects have you got up and coming?

So alongside my forthcoming single with DMS12 (Hold On Tight - forthcoming on Curiousty Club) and my solo single on Juicy Music, me and my buddy StoneBridge are working on all kinds of stuff this year, besides having played shows in Cayman Islands and London together, and I'm also working with his crew of producers. I am also just in the final stages of finishing a massive new uplifting track with Space resident Jonathan Ulysses which I am really excited about. Additionally, I have a new house track with Sam Skilz which is nearly complete and - just this week - I have been working on a new solo track.

Talk us through a day in the life of Lizzie Curious. What's your studio set up like?

I like to start my day with a run through my local park, I try and make sure I do this first, otherwise I get into the zone in my studio and before I know it the whole day will have passed. I have my studio at home, which personally I love, though I know it is definitely a matter of personal taste as to where you like to work and where you feel inspired. For me, I love having everything I need to hand at any point, as I never know when I'll get a new idea for a song and I'll want to lay down the rough ideas. I did actually rent studio space for a while, but I actually found it was hindering me creatively, so I set up everything at home. I use Logic Pro and Ableton have an M-Audio keyboard, though when I get back from my next overseas shows, I'm upgrading to a full size digital piano. I'm classically trained on the piano and since I moved to London and gave my piano to a good home, I have missed having the full octaves to compose on…I keep running out of keys! My days are be filled with all kinds of music, depending on what projects I have on the go - every day passes pretty quickly! For example, I'll either be writing lyrics, laying down test vocals, editing and mastering vocals, working on new tracks or adding harmonies and finishing touches to vocals. In the evening, if I've finished all my work (or at least made a good dent in my to-do list), I love to watch a good movie - I'm always inspired hearing the soundtracks to films and I love catching up with all my dear friends too, which usually involves eating lots of delicious food!

We actually had the opportunity a couple months back (Feb 13) to meet in person which was fantastic, to talk all music and share common interests. Once again was a pleasure to meet you. We both met at the VSA (Vocalist Songwriter Alliance) meet-up. For anyone unaware, the VSA is an organisation exclusively for professional vocalists/songwriters in all genres of music, set up by fellow EDM vocalist Antonia Lucas. The alliance aims to unite professional vocalists/songwriters worldwide and together, strive for regulation, security, mutual support and value. How does it feel to be part of such organisation, that is looking out for fellow vocalists/producers?

At times writing songs can be quite a solitary and introspective experience. For me, it is really great that I have found a group of people who are hugely supportive of each other and also understand both the fantastic highs and the challenges of working in the music industry. Singers and songwriters from all around the world are part of the VSA, so it really feels like a global family supporting you! It's invaluable to me to have this strong working relationship with the VSA and I highly recommend all songwriters/vocalists, no matter what stage you are at in your career, to check them out. www.vsa-global.co.uk

Infrasonic's stalwarts Solis & Sean Truby are back on Interstate for their next vocal masterpiece, teaming up with Alana Aldea with 'I Need You'.

The guys of course no strangers when it comes to creating pure club anthems and this is another exquisite outing from the guys. Emotive chords, silky vocals and big room energy are the order of the day.

The first of two remixes comes from Digital X, delivering a moody tech stance on the original. Completing the package with another fine remix is a lush reworking from rising star Damian Wasse, injecting a huge acid bass line, big room groove and a huge saw lead.

At the end of the last decade, to the collective delight of his fans and the dance press, former Nu-Nrg-ist Giuseppe Ottaviani released his freshman solo album ‘GO!’ A full four years in the perfecting, Ottaviani’s highly anticipated follow-up is here and primed to colour your mind ‘Magenta’. Carrying studio team-ups with fellow tranceologists Ferry Corsten and Aly & Fila, and supported by a stellar chorus line of vocalists (Eric Lumiere, Audrey Gallagher, Linnea Schössow, Lo-Fi Sugar and Seri among them), the trance kingpin’s ready to wow again. Magenta is Harmony… Comprising 15 new tracks from the studio of Italy’s foremost trance composer, his second artist album overtures with ‘Rush’. Imploringly vocalled by Lo-Fi Sugar, its transcendental breakbeat kick emits ‘Magenta’s first hue. With ‘Love Will Bring It All Around’ - the album’s lead single - Giuseppe radiates a more trance-progressive ethic. Locked around thunderous drums, tight, stripped-back percussion loops and mood-fuelling atmospherics, it paves the way for Eric Lumiere’s one-world lyrics. Scooping Armin van Buuren’s Tune of the Week on A State of Trance 608, the single’s also brought plaudits from the dance press. Giving it their June Single of the Month award, MIXMAG called it “sinuous, brooding and appreciably complex”, while DJ Mag said: “Eric Lumiere’s vocal gives this track its light-bulb moment.”

On the concept of his sophomore album, Giuseppe says: “the colour Magenta represents universal love at its highest level. The album’s concept is exactly that. Music intended to promote the very same essence the colour does.”

‘Magenta’ stimulates Spirituality… on ‘Stars’ Giuseppe’s supplies the track with one of his trademark high-octane production engines – one that leaves a floor-impression crater-deep. Swedish starlet Linnea Schössow counterbalances its ferocity with a sky gazing,spellbinding vocal arc that stretches to the heavens. Deeper into the album Ottaviani demonstrates that vocal lightning can strike twice as he re-teams with two of his ‘GO!’ album alumni. Stephen Pickup’s vocal on ‘Illusion’ fleetingly splices a rock-ish gene into the album. Backed by Giuseppe’s miasma-like harmonics meanwhile, Faith’s entrancing turn on ‘Nothing Wrong’ burns up the room.

Magenta is Non-conformist… without letting the pace drop for a second, in solo mode Giuseppe expands ‘Magenta’ musical remit. On ‘Cold Flame’ he pumps the distortion pedal hard, working in electro-lining sounds and FX. ‘Feel The Music’ meanwhile riffs off the modulating acidic churn of ‘Hardtrance Acperience’, climactically boiling its 303 to mercury-popping levels. Elsewhere ‘Waterpark’ provides one of ‘Magenta’s many ‘come-together’ festival moments.

Magenta conveys Balance… the album’s transcendental heartland lies in its mid-section. Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Alana Aldea runs the tone deep on ‘Heal This Empty Heart’, whilst Audrey Gallagher lends her bewitching, highly recognisable Gaelic inflection to ‘Walk This World With Me’.

Magenta Universal… Entering the end-zone ‘Magenta’ lines up its co-pro big guns. Uniting the atomising studio personas of Aly & Fila and Giuseppe Ottaviani, ‘Brilliant People’ uses beatific, ever-shifting female harmonics to dizzying effect. The album’s closeout sees Ferry Corsten & Giuseppe collectively use symphonic strings and crowd-igniting pitch-bends, artfully interplayed with melodic redolence and air-slicing synths to fashion the infectious future anthem ‘Magenta’.

Arrival's latest release, "Beautiful Change," combines the instrumental talents of SNR & Rikkaz, a pair of rising progressive and trance artists, with the ethereal vocals of the legendary Jan Johnston. We are also thrilled to welcome back British label veterans Shahin & Bench, as well as the first ever Arrival contribution from Silk Royal's standout duo Dan & Sam.

The Original Mix showcases one of SNR's signature sounds from the track's onset: a meaty, layered bass, which also dynamically seems to skip around the stereo spectrum. As the resonant bass punches through the mix, Jan Johnston's vocal suddenly appears and begins to effortlessly "flutter" through the soundscape, like a butterfly in mid-spring. The lines are delivered with disarming ease, clarity, and beauty, especially the titular hook: "This beautiful change, that's in me."

Shahin & Bench, who, like SNR, contributed a pair of tracks to the recent Silk Royal Showcase 03 compilation, return to Arrival with a characteristically driving and euphoric rendering. Both a vocal and dub mix are offered here, to cater to all DJ tastes. A high-octane groove, centering on a massively layered bass, keeps the energy high throughout the tune. The lead chord progression is richly melodic and has a bit of a funky flavor as well, making it especially fun for the dancefloor. Beware of the club-killing drop, one of the highlights of the release.

Finally, Dan & Sam, who have experienced great radio support and chart success with their anthemic tracks "Walls" and "Breaking The Illusion' on affiliate label Silk Royal, round out the release with a deeper, late-night take. The bassline is trance-influenced, but the overall vibe of the soundscape is dark, pensive, and -- dare we say -- sultry, a fitting mood to match Johnston's provocative vocals. The main break, which includes a breakbeat "teaser" drop, is especially intriguing and emotive.
