The Naturally Victoria’s Secret line claims natural ingredients and I am sure they are in there however in small quantities along with a myriad of chemicals. They don’t claim all natural and that is what matters most. So what are all these beauty blogs talking about it? And what’s up with not listing all of the ingredients on the website?

In my opinion, products with added natural ingredients are definately a step in the right direction but if you are looking for organic and natural skin products, look not to Victoria’s Secret.

So many facial hair removal options….

Tweezing: Ouch. If this were the only way to remove it, I would do it, wouldn’t you?

Depilatory creams: they work however they often burn your skin and leave it raw for days.

Bleaching : can lighten the hair but contain harsh chemicals.

Waxing: always my choice hair remover however I eventually tired of the messy residue. When I introduced waxing to my sister, she was in so much pain, she started to cry. Waxing is not for the weak.

Permanent hair removal through electrolysis: becoming very popular. It electrically shocks the hair follicles and destroys them for good. It will cost you.

Laser hair removal: destroys the hair follicles and must be performed by a licensed practitioner. Also not cheap and not everyone responds to the treatment.

My interest in natural skin products got me thinking about these nasty smelling depilatory creams and bleaching creams that make you gag and laser removal or electrolysis is far too expensive. At my age, I would rather purchase a few new outfits and resort to tweezing. An unexpected email and my daughter’s complaints about burning her skin, led me to some other natural options.

Natural facial hair removal for women:

Sugaring: Sugaring has just come to the forefront over the last several years as many women are searching for chemical free options in skin care products. You can purchase ready made sugaring products such as Moom Organic Hair Removal.

Most hair hair removal products have concentrated on removing unwanted hair without regard to the damage it causes to the skin underneath. I decided not to buy Argan oil right now because I am trying to purchase other natural skin products that I can review on this site and I only have so much money to go around. What a friggen mistake that was. Don’t do it. If you have been using Argan oil for any length of time, don’t stop using it! After only 2 weeks of using it only on those occasions to look hot, I can already see a drastic difference in my skin. I am not going to go into details here…all I will say is that my skin is looking like crap. I was obviously used to my skin looking great while using Argan oil and had a slight set back. Never, ever again.

Why is pure natural skin so important?

I don’t care how many of you will argue this point, when your skin looks good, it changes everything about your life. People look twice when you walk by, they open doors for you, they let you go ahead of them in the grocery line, people smile at you and most importantly you are noticed. It makes us feel good.

We are now a society obsessed with looking younger. Bombarded with messages and on radio, television, magazines and the internet, we spend fortunes on products to eliminate acne, wrinkles, dry skin and eczema. One report states that we spend more on skin care products than education.

The way your skin looks can directly affect your mood and your self confidence. If you don’t agree, than you would not be on this site right now. So how can you get your pure skin back? I believe that using nontoxic, effective, natural skin products will give you the vibrant, healthy, younger looking skin that everyone wants and needs to feel good about themselves.

What is pure skin?

Skin that has been or will be exposed to only the purest skin care ingredients from mother nature. Skin that is exposed only to pure skin products that work with your skin and not against it. Most are no more expensive than the products you buy at your local pharmacy. Don’t let the television and magazine ads convince you that you must have their next “miracle” product. Most are full of chemicals and just don’t work. Just take a look at the products in your cabinets.

The only way to achieve pure natural skin is through proper diet, exercise and the use of natural skin products.

Pressed from the nut of the argan tree’s fruit (a favorite snack of local goats), argan oil has protected the hair and skin of Morocco’s Berber women for centuries. Recent research has proven the oil is packed with skin-beneficial compounds: hydrating essential fatty acids, potent antioxidant polyphenols, and nearly three times the amount of vitamin E in olive oil.

Liz Earle, creator of Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare, discovered its moisturizing effects at a Moroccan hammam 10 years ago. “It was the best facial I’d ever received,” she says. “I had to know more about the oil called the ‘gold of Morocco.’” She brought a bottle to her London laboratory for analysis. These programs prevent abuse of the forests’ limited supply of trees and provide workers with a steady income and basic education classes. “Purchasing the oil from the women’s cooperatives supports their social and economic welfare,” says model Josie Maran, whose namesake beauty brand includes a pure argan oil moisturizer.

Although extracting the ingredient is labor-intensive (machines grind the kernels, but each nut needs to be cracked by hand), only a small amount of the oil is needed in a product to deliver results.

Chemicals from cosmetics, perfumes and other fragrances were detected along with dozens of other industrial compounds in the umbilical cords of African American, Asian and Latino infants in the United States, according to a national study released Wednesday.

Laboratory tests paid for by the nonprofit Environmental Working Group and Rachel’s Network found 232 chemicals and pollutants in the umbilical cords of the 10 babies tested in five states between December 2007 and June 2008.
‘Not a surprise’

“It is not a surprise because studies for many years have shown synthetic and industrial chemicals in humans, but it is particularly concerning that the developing fetus is being exposed,” said Megan Schwarzman, a family physician at San Francisco General Hospital and a research scientist in environmental public health at UC Berkeley. “This is a particularly vulnerable time, and there is no reason for the chemicals to be there.”

It was the 11th time the working group has conducted laboratory tests of human blood for chemicals in household and industrial products. Overall, the working group, which focuses on environmental health issues, found 414 chemicals and pollutants in 186 people of all ages and races, including Caucasians.

The latest study was the first time newborns of minority mothers were exclusively tested.

Representatives of the study group admitted that the sample of newborns from California, Michigan, Florida, Massachusetts and Wisconsin was too small for them to draw any definitive conclusions about race. The results are nevertheless likely to provide new ammunition in the effort to tighten regulations of consumer products and force cosmetic companies to list their ingredients.

Seven of the 10 babies had in their umbilical cord blood synthetic musks known as Galaxolide and Tonalide, which are toxic to aquatic life and have been shown in preliminary studies to cause hormonal changes.

The musk is used in scented soaps, perfumes and colognes, indicating the infants were contaminated by cosmetics their mothers used.

“It means the chemicals are crossing the placenta and getting into babies in the womb,” said Stacy Malkan, a member of San Francisco’s Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and the author of “Not Just a Pretty Face: The Ugly Side of the Beauty Industry.”

Another chemical found in the umbilical cords was bisphenol A, or BPA, a synthetic estrogen used in plastics that has been linked to breast cancer and hormonal problems. A study of Chinese factory workers released last month found an increased risk of sexual dysfunction from exposure to large amounts of the chemical.

It was the first time the synthetic musks and BPA were found in newborns.

Products used in flame retardants, rocket fuels, on frying pans and in computer circuit boards were found in the infants in addition to lead, mercury and known carcinogens, according to the study.

Despite this stark evidence of contamination, cosmetics companies do not have to list synthetic chemicals in their products because fragrances are considered trade secrets.

“You won’t find these chemicals on the label of your favorite perfume because companies don’t have to tell us what is in a fragrance,” Malkan said. “That’s just wrong. Consumers have the right to know what chemicals we are putting into our bodies.”

On Wednesday, California and 12 other states issued a joint statement saying federal laws designed to protect the public from toxic chemicals are too weak. The statement asked for changes that would protect vulnerable populations by identifying and regulating the chemicals in consumer products.

The cosmetic industry and petrochemical companies have fought efforts in Congress to reform cosmetic industry regulations, which were first drawn up in 1938 and have remained virtually unchanged.

Both the House and Senate are considering bills to ban bisphenol A in food and beverage containers. The bills, by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., would protect pregnant women, their children and other consumers from the hormone-disrupting chemical that is used in plastic baby bottles, food containers and in the lining of food cans.

The Environmental Working Group study urges immediate action to prevent further exposure to chemicals.

“Each time we look for the latest chemical of concern in infant cord blood, we find it,” said Anila Jacob, the group’s senior scientist and co-author of the report. “Our results strongly suggest that the health of all children is threatened by trace amounts of hundreds of synthetic chemicals coursing through their bodies from the earliest stages of life.”
