I'm about 5 months behind in keeping our family journal on this blog. I think my lack of posting is for a variety of reason...

First, it could be because the company I usually print my blog from each year, Blurb.com, no longer prints blogs into hard cover books and I've been trying to find another solutions or contemplating printing from Shutterfly.com every few months? Any suggestions?

It may be the ease and simplicity of my private Instagram account?

Or it could be that I just needed a break from record keeping and writing?

Lastly, It may be that this season of life has been so full that I don't have a minute to spare?

But the truth is, when I look back at our many years of family blog books (started printing these keepsakes in 2007), I want to keep this tradition up. I may just add a bunch of pictures and only a few sentences, but I need to write for my heart, too. It's soothing to my soul and so much fun for our family to look back on.

So, here is to re-starting with a few pictures of our Disney World, Orlando, trip in October 2016!

My 38th birthday!

I don't know if I've ever felt more loved than I did this year, on my 38th birthday! I so appreciated all the special cards from family and friends, thoughtful gifts brought over and in the mail, phone calls, and text messages. I'm truly honored to have so many dear friendships and a family around the globe, who display God's love to me so clearly. I feel more blessed than ever to be living this adventurous life with my Hero and our 4 gifts! Grateful. Thankful. Blessed.

On my actual birthday I was fighting a nasty cold virus, but we still made it to church and out for lunch to the Cheesecake Factory! I cuddled with Tony and my kiddoes most of the afternoon and soaked in the peaceful time together... reflecting, praying, and resting. I re-read the cards from Tony, thinking about this love we share and how I wouldn't want to spend this life with anyone else. I re-read the notes from my children, thinking of how I don't deserve them, but how thankful I am that God chose me to be their mommy. And, the icing on the cake was a birthday song that Alisa, wrote for me on her guitar.

I don't want to miss a minute of this life and I want to spend every drop! I yearn to continue to set big goals, to dream the dreams God has for me, to always choose the adventure over the comfortable, to love deeply, to be present, to listen to the Holy Spirit's still small voice, and to wholeheartedly walk by faith in the ONE who is writing the story of my life. In that spirit, I loved an article Ann Voscamp wrote on her blog recently:

I’ve never had a bucket list, and I’m thinking that I don’t want a bucket list as much as I want a poured bucket list. I’m thinking:

The best lives don’t have Bucket Lists as much as they have Empty Bucket lists.

Because the thing is when I kick the bucket, I don’t want there to be anything left in my bucket. When I kick the bucket, I want the bucket right empty.

I don’t want my life to be how I took experiences — but that I gave exceedingly.

That I gave every last drop, that I poured it all out, that I held nothing back. Because the way to really live is not to try to fill your life up — but to spill your life out.

Mmm. So good. I want a poured out life. All the love, all the encouragement, all the goodness God has blessed me with, poured out into others - for HIS glory! And as I study His Word, my heart continues to come back to Psalm 119:33-37, "Teach me, Lord, the way of your decrees, that I may follow it to the end.Give me understanding, so that I may keep your law and obey it with all my heart. Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word."

Homeschooling in the sunshine!

One of the million aspects I love about homeschooling, is school on the beach... in the sunshine, squishy toes in the sand, discovering our Father's creation, watching crabs scurry, getting salt on our lips, and sweet moments with friends of all ages. We love you, Post family!

Happy 8th birthday, Levi! Oh my boy, celebrating you is one of my very favorite gifts in life! You were just a little excited to dig into your birthday breakfast requests; chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, and fresh pineapple. We sang to you, prayed with you, and then let you open your gifts. Your favorite gift, your high-powered-new-pellet-gun, wasn't wrapped and you could hardly wait for daddy to take you out for an afternoon of shooting targets... the next day we had your shark-pool-party and celebrated with so many of your buddies. Highlights were the "ice bucket challenge" and the "BeanBoozled" games." I'm so thankful for the friends God has blessed you with and they are incredibly blessed to have a friend like you.

Some years of life, growth is so clearly seen. This has been one of those years for you. You are much taller (60% for height according to your pediatrician), more confident, and more sure of the young man you are becoming. You walk out our door to play with your friends, no longer afraid if you can't see me or dad. You rush into the ocean waves and cannonball into the pool! You are certain of your skills in sports (especially baseball), you go to AWANA at the chapel all alone (with neighborhood friends, each week), and you love finding adventures outside in the afternoons (ropes, pocket knives, oh my) You have also begun to truly enjoy reading (especially Magic Treehouse and The Hardy Boys books) and you are getting straight A's in most of your other subjects. You really like math and are constantly asking me to do more science experiments. Taking things apart to find out how they work is a great mystery to you!

Levi, you are brave and thoughtful; taking your time and considering your ways. You have wisdom far beyond your age and truly want to make good choices. Your heart is soft, to hear God's voice and to learn from Him. Every day you build up those around you with hugs, notes, words, and silly dances. You make us laugh! You are passionate about baseball, hunting, science, Legos, food, and reading your Bible. You are a great mentor for your little brother and a faithful protector of your big sisters. There is no way I could love you more and I'm so honored to be your mommy. Daddy and I, are so proud of you and love you with all our hearts! Happy Birthday, my big boy!

Back to Homeschooling 2016!

After a refreshing summer break (no moving this year), we were all ready to jump into another year of homeschooling adventures! 8th, 5th, & 3rd grade!!! We kicked off the journey with our traditional back-to-school-brownie-pencil (made Joshua an individual Rice-Krispy treat, since he's allergic to chocolate.) and lots of prayer.

"Remember how the Psalmist described children? He said that they were as a heritage from the Lord, and that every man should be happy who had his quiver full of them. And what is a quiver full of but arrows? And what are arrows for but to shoot? So, with the strong arms of prayer, draw the bowstring back and let the arrows fly... all of them, strait at the Enemy's hosts." ~ Jim Elliot

Our verse for this school year, that happens to be a scripture that our women's ministry on base is focused on also, is:

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good,

My hearts cry continues to be that our children will know, love, and passionately study God's Word - transforming and renewing their minds. That they would conform to God's Truth; not the patterns of this world. That by having an intimate relationship with Jesus, they would know His good, pleasing, and perfect will for their lives. My prayer is that above all academic learning, I would disciple them in Biblical truth, fervent prayer, and godly service. May we approach everything we do with excellence, as unto the Lord, and learn, grow, and walk in His ways!

Cheerleading Camp 2016!

I have been incredibly blessed to lead praise-n-worship for our military wives ministry her on MacDill AFB, this past year (PWOC). My friend, Kristen, mentioned how fun it would be to have a worship night on the beach and I jumped at the idea. What a gorgeous setting; out in our Father's creation!

Alisa's guitar teacher, Camille, who is also a worship leader at a church here in Tampa, offered to lead the music and we also spent time in prayer for our nation, our warrior husbands, children, and for so many needs around us... I'm always humbled and amazed at how the Lord meets us in worship; how His presence calms and strengthens. What a perfect Father to meet us right where we are. To love us as we are... When we get our eyes off ourselves and focus on Him, everything changes.

Ah, summer time how I love you! I love slower mornings, spending extra time with friends, Vacation Bible School, summer camps, sweet fruits and fresh garden veggies, fishing with my man, sticky Popsicle fingers, and long naps from worn out pool-swimming kiddoes... although it will be "hot" in Florida, most of the year, these summer days are winding down and I don't want to miss a moment!

Some vacations I have been ready to come home and get back into our daily groove... that was not the case with Troop Rewards Clearwater. If we could have stayed several more weeks, that would have been even better! In June, our family was blessed by an organization called, "Troop Rewards."

Imagine coming home from fighting another war on terror and someone calling to give your family an all inclusive, 100% paid for, weeks vacation, at a luxurious resort, in gorgeous Clearwater, Florida... That was my Hero and our family! There are no words to thank Tom Burkett, the Sandpearl Resort and Spa, and the many other sponsors who made this dream vacation possible for our family (and other heroes and their families.) If you are looking for a place to give and support active duty military, this is it. And, if you are one of our dear friends with a hero returning home, please check out the Troop Rewards website!

Our Mission:

Supporting our deployed Armed Forces by providing "RnR Recovery Vacations" to them and their families.

"We endeavor to one day provide RnR Recovery Vacations to all our heroes returning from deployment and serving our country proudly."

The arrival day was very exciting! We enjoyed hours of time in the beautiful pool, on the powdered sandy Clearwater beach, and then at a special reception for the 10 Troop Reward families at the Sandpearl. A highlight for our family was meeting the Mayor of Clearwater, George Cretekos, who was so gracious, kind, and welcoming. Also, the girls and I enjoyed talking with Jessica Schwarzkopf; daughter of the late General Norman Schwarzkopf. She certainly knows what it's like to grow up as the daughter of a soldier.

That evening we went on a dinner cruise, watched a gorgeous sunset, and soaked up precious family memories! What an honor to share these days together and to have our Hero home...

I feel so blessed to be born in this country. There is so much wrong in America, but there is so, so much right. Having lived and traveled outside of America, I've seen first hand the blessings I take for granted, that many would give anything for... I'm grateful to live in a nation founded by men and women who had a vision for freedom. Who wrote our first documents with God's Word as their guide and prayer as their anchor. They sacrificed more than I could fathom, so that I could raise my children in a place with such priceless freedoms. My heart is heavy, realizing the responsibility that we now have to fight for this freedom. I'm so thankful for friends and neighbors who have taken up this challenge and grateful for those who have gone before us.

This year we enjoyed two "4th of July" celebrations with friends and neighbors: a gazillion fireworks shot off, delicious desserts, the smell of the grill, a patriotic bike parade, water balloon fights, great fellowship, and face painting by our sweet girl. God bless America!

Surprising Grammy Ethel, for her 88th birthday!

If I ever felt like a Christmas elf, it was the night of Friday, June 24th... A few days before then, my Hero surprised me! Tony told me that he knew how much it would mean to me to be at Grandma Ethel's 88th birthday party/family reunion, he felt that I should be there, and that he had gotten me a ticket! I was so full of emotion and incredibly thankful that I'm married to a man who knows me so well and who blesses me in such special ways. Thank you, my love.

So, I jumped on a flight to Minnesota, without telling my parents or Grammy. It was a total surprise! I rented a car at the airport and arrived at their house about 10:30pm. I wasn't sure if anyone would be awake, especially not Grammy because she's typically an early to bed, early to rise gal. But, sure enough, everyone, including Grammy were awake, talking to her brother Leo, who was visiting for the weekend. Everyone was shocked and cried many happy tears! I don't think they could believe it was really me. It was a very special moment that I will never forget.

I was able to stay for 48 hours, visit my brother for coffee downtown where he works, talk to my sweet sister-in-law Stephanie for a while, have quality time with my parents, love on Grammy, and spend time with many other family members who were there for the reunion/birthday party. Grammy's birthday was incredibly special and I feel so blessed that I got to be there! And, it sounds like Tony and the kiddoes had a very fun weekend, too! *wink*

The week of Father's Day, we were able to watch our Hero participate in a practice jump! It was amazing to see that enormous airplane open and the Airborne Soldiers jump into the big-blue-sky! Even though Tony has jumped over a hundred times, it still gives me chill bumps, thinking of him pulling those parachute string. Lots and lots of prayer!

On Father's Day, we celebrated with homemade cards, a yummy breakfast, a special church service, lunch at Ford's Restaurant, and an evening of family fishing. It was a perfect day of celebrating the man who leads our family with such strength and love...

Tony, you are a daddy who shows our kids the love of their Heavenly Father, in such vivid ways, every single day. You train, disciple, discipline, and instruct with a firm, yet caring hand. Our kids know that you are their protector, their biggest fan, and the one who loves them more than anything on the planet. They love to laugh and wrestle with you. They love to run into your arms every day when you come home from work. They love to listen to you tell stories. They love to dance with you. They have a safe place to cry in your arms. They know you pray for them and will always point them to Jesus. You set an example of integrity, faithfulness, and unconditional love that is breathtaking, my love. They respect you and love you to Disney World and back a million times. *smile* Happy Father's Day!!!

Guitar & Piano Recitals

June was a month of musical performances for our girls! We enjoyed Alisa's guitar recital at Bay Shore Christian School, first, followed by Savannah's piano recital, in Hyde Park, at Friday Morning Musicale, where Bob Hope and other music icons have performed... They each played and/or sang several pieces and Alisa also joined Savannah for a duet at her piano recital. There is nothing quite like watching your kids develop the gifts God has placed within them. Then there is nothing like watching them use those gifts for His glory!

With every move, I continue to pray for mentors, teachers, and coaches that make a positive impact on our kiddoes and I've been blown away in Florida! Alisa's guitar teacher, Camille, is an incredibly talented worship leader, performer, vocalist, and teacher. Not to mention that she's young and fun! Alisa loves her to pieces and has grown exponentially in her 9 months of guitar lessons.

Savannah's piano teacher, Natalie, is also an unbelievable gift. She is one of the most organized woman I think I've ever met, pushes Savannah to excel, and has helped her develop a vision for her music. Natalie is also a military spouse and understands the challenges that come with hopping from teacher to teacher, as we move. I can't say enough about these two women and how thankful I am that God has placed them with our daughters!

Happy, happy 3rd birthday to our adorable, spirited, creative, strong, joyful Joshua James Prescott! Oh buddy, we could not be more thankful to God for bringing you into our lives 3 years ago in Regensburg, Germany. God knew that Levi would need a brother to explore and wrestle with, that your sisters would needed someone else to make them laugh, and that daddy and I needed your warm cuddles and big blue and brown (your left eye is two colors) to love forever.

For your 3rd birthday all you wanted to do, telling us over and over again so we wouldn't forget, was to go to "Chuck E Cheese's." So we went and enjoyed a totally fun family day, followed by gifts from your grandparents, and later a trip to the beach. You knew for certain that it was your birthday and you loved every moment of being the focus of all the celebrating!

Right now you love Peter Pan and ask daddy to "get" Captain Hook, every night before bed. I think you imagine you, daddy, and Levi, heading out to sea to capture the notorious villain on his big ship. Just like the story book that you've practically worn out from having me read it so many times.

Your favorite foods are string cheese, strawberries, vanilla ice-cream, popsicles, pizza, milk, and cereal. You aren't picky and are great about trying new food, but you definitely have your favorites. You also like to help me in the kitchen; mixing and measuring.

Your favorite toys are your football, baseball, guns, tiny action figures, and Duplo Legos. Your puppy, Thor, is truly your favorite toy and you come up with all kinds of games to play with him. He is your shadow and you are his.

You still usually have one nap in the afternoon, but you are starting to fight it. You love to be a part of the action and don't want to miss anything with your siblings.

You have become a fish! No fear of the water here! You wear your "Puddle Jumper Life Jacket" and swim all over our neighborhood pool. Under the water, jumping in, and again, wanting to be a part of all the big kid games. I love when I have you all to myself though, laughing and shooting water guns.

You, daddy, and Levi, spend hours wrestling and you like to show us your muscles!

You are still learning to "obey right away, with a cheerful heart" and we repeat it quite often throughout the day. You are strong willed and passionate about life! You keep us on our toes and make every day an adventure!

You are a "people person," like your siblings. You love friends and make friends wherever you go! You stand on our porch and say "hello" to everyone passing by.

Your favorite words and sayings right now are, "Yes." Which I'm thrilled about! You also say, "I love you very, very much." Or "I love you with all my heart." And you ask a million questions today, usually, "What is that?" or "What is this?" Even if you know the answer, you want us to tell you. You also never say "I'm," it's always "I AM." Your vocabulary sometimes shocks daddy and I, and we love listening to your constant questions.

You love to count and sing! You love to have books read to you and to watch movies with your siblings. You like to glue paper together and color with washable markers. You also continue to like hours with your Play-Doh.

Joshua, we love you very, very much my boy and loved celebrating another year of YOU! May you continue to grow, laugh, explore, and become the boy God has created you to be! Daddy and I pray for you every day and love you with all our hearts! Happy Birthday!!!

3-years-old!

Resources for you and your tween and teen daughters!

My dear, precious friends, Carrie & Amanda,

Since you (love you ladies so much!) have recently asked for book suggestions and Bible study resources for raising young ladies (about 8-13 years old), I'm completely excited and honored to share a few that we've been blessed by!

Each of our kiddoes has a "special day" of the week and on that day (Savannah - Tuesday, Alisa - Wednesday, etc...) I try to have a 5-15 minute personal devotional/prayer time with them individually. This does not always happen, but it's on my goal list every week. During that time we have read through several of these books, devotionals, and Bible studies in the last few years...

1. Before You Meet Prince Charming, by Sarah Mally (Sarah is one of my dear friends and I wrote an acknowledgement for this book.)

2. The Princess & The Kiss; Life Lessons From the Princess and The Kiss, by Jennie Bishop (once completed we do the ceremony as a family)

3. A Girl After God's Own Heart, by Elizabeth George

4. Tea Party Bible Times for Mom and Me, by Mary J. Murray

5. All 3 of Vicki Courtney's Between God and Me Bible study magazines.

6. The 3 Bethany Hamilton Devotionals - Soul Surfer Devotions

7. Live Original, by Sadie Robertson

8. Growing Up Duggar, by the 4 oldest Duggar girls.

9. Do Hard Things: A teenage rebellion against low expecations, by Alex & Brett Harris

I also encourage my kiddoes to have a personal Bible study time, reading through a book of the Bible and journaling. Just like all parenting, it is by God's grace alone, right?! These tools and ideas help, but I strongly believe that much more is caught than taught. If our children see that knowing and obeying God's Word and prayer is important to us, it will most likely become important to them. If they see their mom passionate about loving, serving, and glorifying the Lord in all areas of her life, they will want to do the same. If our girls see that purity, virtue, modesty, and Biblical femininity are important to us, these things will become important to them. Again, all by God's grace!

I'd love to hear your thoughts and favorite book suggestions and Bible studies too, for girls and boys!

Lastly, one day in the grocery store, a woman asked me the ages of my kids and then said, "Oh, no, you have a teenager now. Watch out."

That my friends, is a lie of the enemy! Yes, being a young lady is full of changes and sometimes hard days (like all seasons of raising kids), but Tony and I strongly believe that these years are going to be the best yet! Our children will follow hard after Christ, living set-apart lives in this dark time. I love this new season of parenting and adventures as we step into the future. It's a blessing and an honor to parent a teenager! So, don't be afraid ladies, you are doing an outstanding job and the pre-teen and teen years with your daughters (and sons), will be packed full of beautiful blessings coming right down from the hand of our loving Heavenly Father!

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

My Outstanding Students!

We have completed another year of homeschooling and just look at how my students have grown!

Not only have they grown taller and older, but they have grown wiser. I'm so incredibly proud of their diligence and love for learning. Even on the days when math was "no fun at all," or when "mom didn't have her ducks in a row", or when project lasted "way too long," or the worksheet was "too hard," they pushed through. We have closed the books on 2nd, 4th, and 7th grade and I'm grateful for all we learned as a family and as individuals during this academic year!

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom ~ Psalm 90:12

A child who knows how to recognize Truth, goodness, and beauty - who loves what he should and shuns what he should, is truly an educated child. That is the entire point. - Teaching From Rest

Levi was thrilled to have his Hero, coach spring baseball this season. And I'm certain that Tony was just as thrilled to spend time on the field with his boy (Tony was also thankful for Coach Chris and Reggie, who helped out a great deal during the season).

It was fantastic to watch the growth and confidence that Levi displayed and to see the caring way Tony coached all the kids on his Ranger's team. He took each one under his wing and inspired them to be the best player they could be. They had fun, learned team work, and each one improved during the season. After the last game, on a sweltering hot day, Tony praised each player individually and handed them their trophy. It was heart warming to hear the parents thank our Hero, for the difference that he made in their child's life.

I sure love our military community at MacDill AFB, and the youth sports program that our family has been blessed to participate in. Way to go RANGERS!

Mother's Day from the couch

A few days before Mother's Day, Alisa and I came down with a horrific stomach bug. The kind of bug that inhibits you from doing anything but lay on the couch and sip water. It was terrible. I was starting to recover, my sweet Alisa was still very under the weather (we ended up taking her to the doctor for nausea medication), when Savannah, Joshua, and yes, Tony, came down with it. The night before Mother's Day. The only Prescott to avoid the virus entirely, was Levi The Strong!

Mother's Day morning I wasn't greeted with handmade cards, colorful flowers, and breakfast in bed. We didn't enjoy church as a family, where I normally cry happy tears looking at the 4 blessing the Lord has given me. And, we didn't go out to a favorite restaurant or spend the afternoon on a sunny beach. We barely made it through the day. A messy house. Gatorade. Saltine crackers. Precious ones clutching their hurting tummies. It was a hard day.

My sweet Savannah said, "Mom, I'm so sorry that this isn't the best Mother's Day ever." To which I replied, "This is just part of being a mom."

It truly is.

So many days of motherhood are hard days. And that is ok, because no feeling on earth compares to holding your very own precious newborn in your arms for the first time. No feeling compares to watching your toddler take his first steps or hearing your daughter say "mama." No feeling compares to jumping up and down in celebration with your boy who learns to sound out a new word or your eyes welling up with tears during a piano recital as your daughter's fingers excitedly touch the black and white keys. Being a mommy is a gift from the heart of God. It's an honor.

Being a mom is also a constant battle of emotions, giving, selflessness, and learning the hard process of letting go. A wise older mother reminded me recently that motherhood is wearing your heart on the outside and sometimes in many different locations. Motherhood is a journey of re-learning to walk by faith and feeling love like you could have never imagined in your wildest dreams.

Mother's Day is not a specific day of the year. Mother's Day is a gift to be opened every morning. Looking into the eyes of our babies; those bigger and those smaller than ours. Mother's Day is realizing that God has entrusted us with a divine, eternal gift and that He will give us all the strength we need for every day as a mother.

So a happy-mothers-day to my mom, my mother-in-law, my Grammy, sisters-in-law, mentors, and dear friends who have all shaped my mommy-journey so far. And may we continue to fix our eyes on our loving Creator, the One who has given us these precious gifts that have heard our hearts beating from the inside.

Our Hero has been recognized numerous times in his military career as an outstanding leader, a true American Hero, and brave patriot. And although I have so many blog posts in the works that I want to journal, it is fitting with Memorial Day, to post this first. As we remember those who have lost their lives for our freedom and given us a gift we could never repay...

Last week, the two of us set off for a whirl wind trip to Washington D.C. - sans kiddoes. It was my first time leaving Joshua overnight, which was a stretch for this mommy heart, but all 4 of the kids were happy and healthy when we returned! What a blessing to have a responsible oldest daughter and thoughtful neighbors to hold down the fort. God is so good!

Tony received the "Counterintelligence Agent of The Year Award,"

My eyes filled up with tears, watching as the man of my dreams, my very best friend, and the world's best daddy walked to the stage to receive this prestigious award. It was hard not to break down, listening to the words spoken about my heroic husband. I felt God's gentle reminder that He indeed works everything out for the good of those who love Him and that our Heavenly Father's plans are so much higher than our own. CW3 Prescott distinguished himself as part of the Special Operations Join Task Force in Kabul, Afghanistan. He risked his life in the defense of Camp Integrity during one of the most violent and complex attacks on a NATO base since 2009. Weeks following the attack, CW3 Prescott skillfully conducted counterintelligence operations in a hostile combat environment to bring the perpetrators to justice. His investigations and operations provided critical force protection for all NATO personnel located on Camp Integrity and throughout Kabul, Afghanistan. The achievements of CW3 Prescott saved countless lives, increased our understanding of the complex threat environment, and ultimately improved the effectiveness of operations. CW3 Prescott brought great credit to himself, the United States Special Operations Command, and the Department of Defense.

Happy 13th Birthday, Savannah Rose!

It's official, our baby girl is 13-years-old! Everyone says it, but I honestly can't believe how quickly the years have gone and how thankful I am for every second I've had this beautiful princess in my life.

There were several highlights of this milestone birthday... I had the idea a while back to put together a booklet of encouragement and inspiration for Savannah, as she entered this new season of life; packed with letters from women who love Savannah, her grandmothers, her coaches, mentors, piano teacher, and some of my dearest friends. I was blown away and cried many tears reading these uplifting emailed and hand written notes. From challenging Savannah to live a godly life as a young person, to personally thanking her for making a difference in their child's life, it is a book I know my girl will always cherish. I also left blank page protectors in the back of the book to add special notes from her daddy, camp counselors, or even graduation cards in the future. My prayer is that as Savannah faces challenges as a young person, that she will come back again and again to the precious notes and scriptures written by those who love her so dearly.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecto of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Another birthday highlight was an entire day spent just the two of us! Our Hero took the day off work to spend with Alisa, Levi, and Joshua, and Savannah and I, enjoyed a full day of shopping for her, helping her pick out her first set of make-up, long talks over iced Starbucks, lunch at The Oxford Exchange (my bookworm loved this place!), and unhurried, leisurely mother-daughter time.

And finally, we planned a surprise 13th birthday party at our house! Since her birthday actually fell on a Sunday, it was the perfect excuse for a daddy/daughter ice-cream date after church. While they were out, a bunch of friends came over to help decorate and set up cupcakes. I could hardly contain my excitement! When Savannah arrived home she was totally surprised (although I found out later that she had a "hunch" something was going on, but nothing big) and covered in hugs from friends! Her youth pastor, Reverend Jones and his wife, Mina, also came and prayed a special blessing over Savannah's life, challenging her to live wholeheartedly for Christ as a young person and as a bright light in her generation.

My dear Savannah Rose,

Happy 13th birthday! Your daddy and I love you with all our hearts, we pray for you daily, are always here for you, and are cheering you on in this new season of life. You are a joy, my sweet girl and I pray this birthday was one of the best yet!

I could not be more proud of the young woman you are becoming. Yes, I will always miss your tiny 3-year-old voice, curly blond ponytail on top of your head, and the sound of you talking to your dolls, while playing with your Dora The Explorer Kitchen. But, I'm oh so thankful for the growing-up girl you are!

April Moments

April moments: a Tampa Bay Ray's baseball game night for daddy and the big kids, an opening season ceremony for Levi's baseball team, the Rangers, (whom by the way have the world's best coach; our Hero!) several science experiments and cooking adventures, a piano competition at Florida College, where our Savannah Rose received "Honors!", ocean fishing, lunch often eaten outside on our lanai, an ever growing puppy who loves riding in the car, and painting by the ocean. We also had our first Florida tornado, spending a morning in the closet (our house is on stilts so no basement), as base sirens blared. Tony was traveling out of state for work and we commented on how these events so often happen when he's not at home. Sigh. All is well though and I'm so thankful for refreshing April showers that bring vibrant May flowers!

The Fisher House

I don't remember much from our 2004 stay at the Fisher House on Fort Hood, in Texas. I do know that a week before, I severely broke both bones in my lower right leg, had a lengthy surgery where skilled military doctors placed a titanium rod inside my tibia, and numerous pins into my knee and fibula. I know that I was on heavy pain medication, had a 10-month-old baby girl, and a heroic husband, who a few days later was leaving for a 15 month deployment in Iraq.

The Fisher House is an unbelievable organization that believes that a patient's best medicine is to be near a loving family member. "Fisher House Foundation is best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment."

This past December, after visiting Tony's friend, George, at the Tampa VA Hospital, the memories of the Fisher House came flooding back. I prayerfully made one of my 2016 goals to bless the Fisher House.

So far, I invited the Tampa Fisher House Director, Paula, a vibrant woman, full of passion to make a difference in the lives of mitary families, to speak at our women's ministry program in March. She was able to share information, stories, and ways to help the Fisher House here in Tampa, with over 40 women that morning... Next, in April, the kiddoes and I organized a "bake drive" with my PWOC Bible study and a few ladies in our neighborhood. We were thrilled to drive across Tampa, to deliver these made-with-love goodies to the 20 families residing in the house that day.
