• Grab your current read.
• Open to a random page.
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences or quotes from somewhere on that page. (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others! Share the title and author, too, so that other other participants can add the book to their To Be Read Lists if they like)

"Oh," he said, voice subdued. "You mean it's her."
In a thousand years of existence, Stefan had never been much for slang. He preferred precise speech to Mario's idioms that changed every decade. But Americans of this century had a phrase that he thought summed things up very well. He tossed back the rest of his vodka and slid the glass across the teakwood coffee table.
"Damn straight," he said.
This quote is from the first half of the book by the author Jennifer Ashley called Viva Las Vampires. So far, it is a very interesting read with a lot more sexual tension than I've been diving into...which isn't a bad thing. I'm really enjoying Ashley's writing style, it has made this book an easy read so far.

Title: Blood Prophecy
Author: Stefan Petrucha
Pages: 368
Publisher: Grand Central Publishing
Release Date: November 1, 2010
ISBN-13: 978-0446555999

Summary
Man and monster are in his blood... His name is Jeremiah Fall. A soldier of fortune, he has been fighting his own war for 150 years--ever since the beast in him was born. Desperate to restore his lost humanity, Fall crosses the sands of Egypt, discovers a lost city off the coast of France, and finally arrives at the birthplace of all mankind. Shunning daylight and feeding only when he must, he battles the monster who transformed him forever. He can share his deepest secret with no one . . . not even the beautiful woman he starts to love, the only human who grasps the mysteries of an ebony stone as old as creation itself. Across the world, across time, Fall seeks the stone's secret. But has he found a cure for himself or unleashed a final curse on all mankind?

Review
I really loved Mr. Petrucha's writing style. The only reason the book received a 4.5/5 is because of the lack of romance it spun...but the romance-interest made for an awesome twist. However, Petrucha spins a great page-turning adventure in Blood Prophecy; it was really hard to put down the book. Petrucha puts together historical facts with his rendition of the Christian creation tale and merges it with the vampires' origin. The main character, Jeremiah Fall, an early Puritan for the early settlements in the United States, stumbles upon an old burial mound releasing an age old "beast". After this run in, he's infected by the vampire and travels across the world looking for a cure. The author's writing style is greatly descriptive, has plenty of action to keep the reader captivated, and combines historical information to make the book sound believable and real.
Another thing I really appreciated from this author was the fact that even though Jeremiah tries to stay human, he doesn't become a whinny...well, bitch. He kicks butt and continues on his journey even though he seems to be caught between a rock and a hard place. A whinny hero/heroine is one of my pet peeves and almost an instant deal breaker; I'm glad this didn't happen in this case.

Purely Vampiric Rating:
The end of the semester draws so very near...I can almost see it. The semester ends Dec 9th (WOOOT!), so expect some reviews during my month long break. I also have a post in the workings called "Xmas for the Purely Vampiric"...title's a work in progress. :) It's going to feature some books/movies/shows/etc you might want to put on your wishlist...or get for another vampire lover in your life. I also have a review I will write about Stefan Petrucha's Blood Prophecy. It was such a great read; I highly recommend it. So watch out for those two posts coming soon.

Authors

Since I'll be off for a month startingDec 9th; I'll be getting back to authors as well, but notreopening my book submissions for the time being, I think I might remove the form until I'm caught up. I want to give all the authors a chance at a review if ya'll'd still take me.
Take care,

Summary
Catya hunts the beast that has been dumping bodies and terrorizing her city. She has done so night after night for the last eight years. Little does she know that tonight is the night that everything changes. Tonight is the night that she meets Christian, who is a vampire, her mortal enemy. She must escape him before he realizes what she is, but she finds herself too drawn to him to leave. Before she knows it, she is fighting at his side, for not only her life, but his as well. They can only depend on hope to get them through the bloody battle ahead. The only question is, will they make it out alive?

Review
This book wasn't my cup of tea. I honestly held off reviewing and reading it off and on through the semester and felt like I shouldn't cheat my reading list order...thus I didn't do any reviews for a few months. Bad, Josie! Anyhow, I didn't like this book for a few reasons:

• Writing Style: I just couldn't get into Ms. Black's writing style. Here's a quote, maybe you'll like it:

"Christian was stunned. She was dressed in a long lace nighty, corset at the waist, and a peasant top, a wreath of flowers in her hair. All of the most beautiful white. 'You were right, my love,' barely escaped his lips. 'You dress as the girls of my youth. How did you know I loved this time? How did you know I wanted this?' She was so beautiful. He had always imagined his mate like this, even at times changed over the years."

• Characters: I just couldn't bring myself to enjoy the characters and really get into them. They seemed rather shallow, the character development wasn't there. Most of the time Catya and Christian were banging each other and...yeah, I haven't been one for smut since my horny high school years. Ha! I'm ok with plot and sex, those are good...but I wasn't even half way through the book when I gave up and bunny's would be envious at the amount Catya and Chris got it on. I just couldn't finish it...knowing that I was going to have to read about another "soft core" or "quivering member".

Yeah, so if you like smut/erotica, go for it. They use to be fun escapes for me, maybe they are still for you, to each their own!

Release Date: April 2008
ISBN-13: 978-1416547075

Summary

Conrad Wroth has spent his whole life hunting vampires even after his brothers turned him and themselves into the creatures that he hates. The Wroth brothers have come together to try to turn Conrad into a forbearer, a vampire who refuses to drink from a live person. But since Conrad has been an assassin for the past 300 years, he has drunk the blood of many enemies to the point of death, resulting in him receiving their memories. He is going crazy with the thousands of memories and thoughts buzzing around in his head ‘til he realizes that he can see the beautiful Néomi Laress, the tenant of the house he is being kept in during his recovery. It seems that whenever she is around, Conrad can push away the intruding memories and appear as if his sanity is still intact. The problem is, Néomi has been a ghost for the past 80 years after a vengeful ex-fiancé stabs her on the night of the full moon. Now each full moon Néomi, a rising ballet dancer when she was alive, must dance and relive the excruciating pain of her death. Can the two escape their prisons and find a way to be together?

Review
The book is very good, in fact, I have read it several times already. Kresley Cole is one of the best vampire writer I have read so far. I am happy to say that this delightfully good book is part of a series called Immortals After Dark, containing not only vampires but also other fabled creatures we sometimes wish did exist. I would give it a four and a half, though the rating could be debatable. As a warning it is not for young eyes since it does contain detailed sex scenes, as do all of the authors books. The story is well written and you fall in love with all her characters, not only the leads. I can say that even if you haven’t read the series starting with book one, you will enjoy it and can’t get lost except within the plot.

Purely Vampiric Rating:
I've been getting tons of emails requesting me to read books but I haven't responded to any, for that, I ask forgiveness. I've been book to the gills with school...I'm really glad it's almost over, the first week on May is my last week and then I have three-four months off for summer. During summer, I will be taking more books and doing a helluva lot more reviews along with some other stuff so stay tuned.

Take care,

Malkom Slaine: tormented by his sordid past and racked by vampiric hungers, he's pushed to the brink by the green-eyed beauty under his guard.

A maddening witch he aches to claim...

Review
With Demon from the Dark the reader is in for a treat of his life. I truly think Kresley Cole outdid herself with this one. The story is beautifully written and very touching. All of the factors - the plot line, characters, effect and interactions - I expect from a great book are executed perfectly. So much that while reading it didn't even cross my mind to analyze or critique anything. I was simply engulfed into the story I absolutely loved.

Demon from the Dark was one of the books I most anxiously waited for. Not because of the characters, I mind you, but of the opportunity to learn what happened after a number of Lore Immortals were captured in the end of the previous book. And in a small corner of my mind I prayed that there wouldn't be some mortal faction involved (hate when humans are involved). My prayers were unheard, but I do not regret it for a second. The author made it work and made it good.

And the characters I wasn't necessary anxious about (because I didn't know one and the other didn't impress me much), were true heroes whom I absolutely fell in love with. The slow progress of relationship between Malkom and Carrow, the peaks and lows figuring how to trust each other, communicate with a language barrier, was moving.

Such untypical situations as the heroes not being able to communicate, or touch on some perfectly normal yet deliberate reason I associate with Kresley Cole's writing. And I love the way it is put together and solved. Sometimes even the most obvious things come as surprise and surprise was what Demon from the Dark most definitely managed to accomplish. Even though I expected a good read.

The book has truly heartbreaking moments, deep feelings, sacrifices, dangerous turns and an escalating need for more of the intricate world of Immortals After Dark series, it can't be denied. I only hope the next book would come soon, because while the secondary characters do give an extra flavor, it also gifts with a desperate craving for another story.

In short, Demon from the Dark is a keeper and you'll regret it if you won't try!

Purely Vampiric Rating:

Summary
While plowing his meager plot in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Puritan colonist Nathan Fall digs up an undead creature that turns him, his wife, and their son into vampire-like monsters. Nathan's father, Atticus, kills Nathan and Mary, but lets young Jeremiah live, hoping he can be saved from rank bestiality by the depth of his intellect and insatiable curiosity. Jeremiah becomes obsessed with finding a way to regain his humanity, no matter the cost in money, effort, or time. Over 150 years, he travels to the shores of Egypt, the rocky coast of Brittany, and the gates of Eden itself in a quest for understanding and redemption that will thrill fans of biblical horror and historical detail.

On the Soul of a Vampire by Krisi Keley

Summary

For some it takes a lifetime to discover their raison d'être. Imagine searching for eight centuries. In 1997 Philadelphia, 800 year old vampire Valéry Castellane comes face to face with his reason to be, in the person of Angelina Lacroix, a young mortal woman whose understanding of immortality is about to change all he's known as truth and which will take him, and his readers, on a journey into the human soul. Discovering a mortal who not only senses his presence, but also somehow knows his name, Valéry becomes obsessed with solving the mystery of how this might be. Confronting the girl, after learning she has knowledge of his entire existence, he is stunned and frustrated when Angelina seems more intent on convincing him that he's not the soulless monster of myth than she is with providing an explanation. Unable to take her life or give her immortality, Valéry embarks on a journey with Angelina that doesn't only take them from Philadelphia to his childhood home in the Provençal Alps, but on a journey into his greatest hopes and dreams, fears and disappointments, and into the strange and frightening past that shaped him. A novel about faltering faith and never-ending hope, On the Soul of a Vampire will not only alter everything you think you know about vampires, it will change the way you see your very soul.

Summary

Zale. Gauthier. Varden. These three dynasties... They all sound like something out of an ancient, oriental myth or fairy tale. The concept of humans and dragons helping and living in harmony with one another, without fear. To me, that's exactly what they are. A distant dream only read of, whispered secretly, quietly yearned for. For, you see, I am the new Quelda of Tynan. These words echo the mystery, horror, and romance found within Schulze's fantasy novel. Along with her new husband, Chalom, Crislin must choose to embrace cruel tradition, run from it, or stand against it. The young couple's only hope is to rally the help of the three peaceful dragon dynasties of Sulaimon-but tradition is not on their side, even outside the realm of Tynan. The dragons outside Tynan's borders have been rumored as too stubborn and proud to believe their Tynanian brothers would commit such horrors as inflicted upon the Quelda. Gaining their aid is not a likely hope. Yet, any hope at all is valued in Tynan... If they are to stand a chance of bringing cruel tradition to a permanent end, Crisilin and Chalom must brave the constant, consuming blizzards of the Ever-white. They must brave the three dynasties and the challenges awaiting there. Together, they must convince the dragon emperors to allow them access to the shrines which house the sacred Aria - protective strands of music which may be able to disperse the evil from Tynan and unite the four dynasties of Sulaimon as a whole once again. Their only aid stems from a sprite whose moods are as unstable as her magic, a young minstrel, and a mysterious fox. Despite the odds, such plans are daring, dangerous, unprecedented, but fully possible - if they can escape the Wall first.

Oh, I forgot to mention early, please take part in PV's current poll (Thank you to the three that have already voted). I'm thinking of doing a section called Vampires, Zombies and Werewolves! Oh my! and I'm trying to see how many readers like zombie and werewolf books so I'm not the only one enjoying the reviewing. :)

Take care,
Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that I have just found on Addicted to Romance, started by MizB of Should Be Reading.

• Grab your current read.
• Open to a random page.
• Share two (2) “teaser” <s>sentences</s> quotes from somewhere on that page. (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others! Share the title and author, too, so that other other participants can add the book to their To Be Read Lists if they like)

Title: Jane Bites Back
Author: Michael Thomas Ford
Pages: 320
Publisher: Ballantine Books
Release Date:Original edition - 12/29/2009
ISBN-13: 978-0345513656

The Summary
200 years after her undeath and Jane Austen is still among the books she loves but she isn't surrounded merely by her own books but the books of other authors as well. She is the owner of Flyleaf Books in the sleepy college town of Brakeston located in Upper State New York were she gets to witness her books fly off the shelf...along with other unauthorized sequels, spin-offs and adaptations...which she doesn't see a damn cent from!

To make things worse, the manuscript she finished before becoming a vampire has been rejected by 116 publishers. Why can't the great Jane Austen get published? Has she lost her thunder? Perhaps not. An email and a visit to New York City later proves she hasn't. Her book suddenly puts the spotlight back on the great Austen and she must protect her real identity at all costs while of course managing her bookstore, fending off a dark man from her past and dealing with her current flame(s). What's an undead girl to do? Will this historically renowned author keep her cool in this comedy of manners or will she show everyone not to mess with a women with a sharp wit and an even sharper set of fangs?

The Review

When I first received this book in the mail from the publishing company, I was kind of iffy about it. Jane Austen...a vampire. What? Ok, this is going to be so hokey...but it wasn't! It was such a great book, an easy read and a sure page turner. I had a hard time putting it down after getting into it. I have to admit though, I've never read a Jane Austen book but heard that Michael Thomas Ford doesn't copy her writing style in anyway...which might amount to someone that is going to pick up this book sooner or later. I'd recommend this book to any vampire romance reader...though it is kind of lacking in the hot and heavy sex scene I'm used to reading in most Vampire romance, but it wasn't missed. Ford did such a good job with this, it's more of a romantic comedy than anything...which I happen to freakin' love!

Ford had a way with words and knew what I like to read. Reading his writing was such a treat, both witty and entertaining at all times.

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly book meme that I have just found on Addicted to Romance, started by MizB of Should Be Reading. Everyone is invited to join the fun! Here are the rules:

• Grab your current read.
• Open to a random page.
•Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page. (Make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others! Share the title and author, too, so that other other participants can add the book to their To Be Read Lists if they like)

My current Read

Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford

"Why would that be bad for you?" asked Jane.

Walter sighed. "You'll be a big success," he said. "I'll be the small-town contractor who can't offer you anything."
That's that, I hope you enjoy this read if you end up picking it up...I'm sure enjoying it, I'm currently on page 260 after about a week of reading on and off and it gets pretty hard to put down!

I'm so sorry about not responding to the emails fast enough. I should be getting some new books in from publishers and authors alike so I can review more during my break...and I also need to pay my fine from the local library so I can check out more books. Oops. :< I forgot about several books and then asked my other half to turn them in and my other half forgot about them for a day. And that's how fines happen, kiddos. Anyhow!

An update on the "Latest Books In" should be put up as soon as I receive books, either next week or the week after, I'm guessing. I'm going to start doing more things here such as "Teaser Tuesdays", I got the idea from another blog...though I don't remember which since there are a lot of peeps that do it such as Violet at Eager Reader and Felicia at Geeky Blogger's Book Blog...WAIT! Ok...I found the source of the meme apparently. Credit should go to MizB at Should Be Reading. Oh, I hope that's right. :) Anyhow, I'm going to be posting the "Teaser Tuesday" tonight since it's officially Tuesday and all. Along with those two new things, I'll be posting some interviews if I can get in contact with someones that's willing. I also want to start doing giveaways, so if any of you authors/publishers want to send books/promotional pieces my way for giveaways, just email me and I'll send you the address to the PV Headquarters.

I'm also going to update some of the sections, such as the Contact Me and Submit a Review pages. Along with those section updates, I'm going to add a page called "Promotions" so that authors and publishers alike can promote their books on the site for the readers. "Review/Rating Policy" will also be posted as well as an "About" page that for some reason I haven't posted yet. I think that's about it for now...if I decided to update anything else, you guys will be notified via a post so you can see all the new things happening at PV.
Do understand that there are some pretty big differences between the series of novels and the HBO series. Sookie is the same lovable blonde haired, blue eyed waitress and the dear vampire Bill packs a bit more bravado and wit than the HBO series gives him credit.
Sookie Stackhouse is a cocktail waitress in small-town Louisiana, but she keeps to herself and doesn't date much because of her "disability" to read minds. When she meets Bill, Sookie can't hear a word he's thinking. He's the type of guy she's waited for all of her life, but he has a disability, too--he's a vampire with a bad reputation. When one of Sookie's coworkers is killed, she fears she's next.
The Review
Small town Bon Temps, Louisiana may not be ready for Bill the vampire. This first book in the series of novels introduces a serial killer who runs around taking out women associated with the heroine, Sookie Stackhouse's brother and the recently "out of the coffin" vampires. There is much quicker pacing in the novel than I originally expected with having watched season 1 of the HBO series first.

This is a different read in comparison to other books currently being sold. Sookie Stackhouse seems very innocent --and to keep from the prude word being tossed around-- she's a bit on the modest side. Almost a southern belle for the 21st century. Which I find refreshing. While there are some sexual scenes, it is not what drives the book. Also refreshing.

It is a quick and easy read, more brain candy than anything else. But, oh what delicious, delicious candy.

Enjoy,
The Summary

Cara Mia is a story based around the character Mia Disantini and her life as a vampire and her attempt to make it a better life. She was thrown into the world of immortality against her will and out of necessity for survival. While an actress on Broadway playing the lead antagonist in the show The Master Builder. Ethan, Mia's maker and lover fell for her on stage while attending a showing and made himself known to Mia. Soon Mia is transported into the life of Immortyls and as no way out. Mia just longs for the sun and a way out of this world ruled by old fashion, and when I say old fashion, I mean old fashion, males. Cara Mia is the story about Mia's place in the upcoming Immortyl Revolution.

The Review

I would love to start off as saying that Denis Verrico is defiantly the next author to watch. She places so much character and voice in everyone of her characters. She knows the right mix of action, humor and everything else that makes a good read.

Cara Mia was a gripping tale about Mia Disantini 's life as a vampire. Most of the story was told in first person, with Mia talking to another charater (Joe) and filling him in on what was going on before her "capture". It was done quite well. The characters were well developed, I wanted to know more and more about them with each turn of the page and Verrico delivered that. I loved the science involved in the story, it was a great approach to vampirism without being too science-y. You won't be like "whaaat?" when you read about it. It was a refreshing take on it and you didn't need to be a science geek to understand it.

The book was adventurous and exciting, a great read for any vampire fan. While the romance in the story was kind of lacking, it didn't matter! It was an amazing tale Verrico span and I can't wait to get my hands on the second book, Twilight of the Gods, coming Fall of this year.

While I highly recommend this book, the only problem I had with the book as a whole was the lack of editing and the gramatical errors I came across while reading it. I'm kind of a Grammar Nazi and I know a lot of readers that are as well, while this wasn't a problem that made me set the book down, it was kind of a nuisance at times just because it took me away from the story, which was an amazing story and defiantly deserves a good editor to read over it.

Nina Blackman, was on her first day of her new job as a dental hygienist when a patient got a little too loopy on the anesthesia and ends up biting her. She thinks nothing of it but the doctor sends her home, when she wakes up the next evening she has a set of new razor-sharp fangs, supersonic hearing, she can read a can of veggies on her neighbors counter with the clarity of a bionic women, and hear the blood rushing through said neighbor's dog's body. She has a hunger that not even chicken wings sure can satisfy! Something's wrong, this patient Greg Statleon has something to do with there new abilities and Nina Blackman is sure going to give him a piece of her mind when she finds him.

The Review

Nina Blackman was a difficult character to like, throughout the book she constantly bitches about her immortality and doesn't stop. The book was entertaining save for Nina being a women I couldn't really stand at some points of the novel. Greg was sexy and Nina's interactions with him were entertaining and hot at times. The novel was written very well and had a lot of humor that helped overcome the bitchiness that is Nina. Her friends Marty and Wanda were also quite entertaining, it was funny reading their witty banter with Nina. Overall, the book was a pretty good read, you just have to get past Nina's complaining and understand where she is coming from. Give this book a chance even if you grow to hate Nina in the first few chapters, it was worth it. I will differently pick up the next book or the previous one at that and find out how Marty became the werewolf and what the heck's up with Wanda!
I am long overdue for my reviews. So, here goes.

The Summary

MIT, Yale and Caltech were her first picks as far as colleges went, but her parents had decided that Texas Prairie University (TPU) - Morganville, Texas was the closest and safest bet for their daughter. It's a shame they didn't look closer at the college-town run by vampires, not to mention the freshman dormitory hazing. Sanctuary comes in the form of off-campus living in a ""Gone With The Wind meets The Munsters"" mansion with the trendy goth girl Eve, rebellious Shane and the mysterious Michael -- who disappears during the day.

The Review
Glass Houses starts off with the always traditional moments of college life; hazing. It's a bit young for my taste, but the characters are endearing and the general tone of the book keeps me intrigued throughout the read, making it one of the fastest and easiest reads I've had in a long while. Caine has created characters who are decently well rounded, the development of the storyline throughout the book is smooth as she peels back each layer, uncovering the world of Morganville. I really couldn't wait for the second book in the series as Caine did something I rarely see in a novel--she pushed the action between the volumes, leaving me needy for the next installment. All in all, it's a deliciously good start to what I hope is a well played series.

Enjoy,

Read Glass Houses already or the other books in the series? Lovin' Rachel Caine? Tell us about it in a comment! We'd love to hear from you!
Great...and a bloodthirsty vampire and an ancient demon are bent on enslaving poor ol' Cin and steal her power for their own evil schemes. The only thing that can save her now is a group of warrior vampires determined to slay all the rouge vamps, a group of vampires known as the Righteous. Among them stands a fierce swordsman named Michael who ignites carnal yearnings in Cin and shows her how it can be to be a vampire. Cin must chose between the human existence she has always known or the immortality of a vampire...which will she choose?

I have to say...I loved this book and I can't wait to get my hands on the others. This book wasn't actually submitted via form, I asked for it from the author herself after reading an excerpt of it on Amazon. Jenna Maclaine is so very nice. She sent me a copy as soon as she was able and even signed it! She is fantastic. Anyhow, I was extremely entranced in this book, I couldn't put it down. The author has such a beautiful way of writing, this book had so much voice. The character's were all well developed and the plot was an adventure to see unfold. It was an exciting book throughout. I highly recommend this book to either read or buy. You can't go wrong with it.

I'll reopen the submission as soon as possible. If you've submitted books for review prior to this date, I'll try getting back to you and get the books mailed out to my address. I'm sorry about this my dear publishers and authors! I'll do my best to get the books read and reviewed. I have a lot of books here and there that need reviewing and don't want to get swamped with more books to read so I thought putting a hold on submission should help. Please bookmark the site if you are interested in submitting your book for review and check back in a month or so.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. I'll see you soon with a review.

Take care,
