Henrico High School Students Donate to 100,000 Meals

This year, 100,000 Meals is from May 21st to June 9th!

Each Spring we partner with the community and the Central Virginia Food Bank to raise food and funds for the 100,000 Meals For Kids program. We collect non-perishable foods and donations at all of our locations and through our Free Home Delivery.

Last year, thanks to your support, we collected food and funds for 70,247 meals. Our goal is to exceed that and keep pressing toward the goal of 100,000 Meals!

Everyone is encouraged to participate, and we especially invite schools to help kids get involved. Children learn by example. Help to teach this lesson by getting them involved with providing a universal need…FOOD. Here’s how you can help:
1. Organize an event for a class, a grade level, or an entire school.
2. Collect Funds or Food. Remember, Feedmore can purchase 5 meals for only one dollar!
3. Contact Puritan to arrange a photo opportunity with your group and to receive a certificate of appreciation.
4. LIMITED pick-up of collected food is possible. Contact us early to reserve your spot or aim your collection on funds.

1. Bring a garment in for professional cleaning as soon as possible after becoming soiled.  Stains and soil left too long can be impossible to remove and will shorten the life of your garment.
2. Don’t iron freshly stained or soiled clothes. The heat may set some stains.
3. Discuss any spills or soiled spots with your dry cleaner.  Be sure to point out light-colored or invisible spills, such as those from soft drinks, fruit juices or white wine.  The sugars and/or acids in these will turn into a brown-colored stain if not treated properly.
4. Allow perfumes, lotions, deodorants, antiperspirants, and other toiletries to dry before you get dressed.  These products can contain ingredients that can cause discoloration.
5. Protect your garments from excessive perspiration, especially silks, because it can cause many dyes to discolor.
6. Have matching pieces cleaned together, including pants/skirts and matching jackets, so that normal color fade will be uniform and pieces will still match over time.
7. Protect your garments from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or strong artificial light. Keep in mind that even indoor lighting can affect some dyes.

1. Never pick or scratch at the stain, it breaks the fabric and causes permanent damage.
2. Don’t rub anything into the stain – you are pushing the stain into the fabric, not taking it out.
3. Do not put anything on the stain, it can cause color loss.

That’s where the Cinderella Dreams Project comes in. The Midlothian Junior Women’s Club, Hot 100.9 and 103.7  The River, Puritan Cleaners, and the YMCA of Greater Richmond are joining forces to ensure that no young woman is denied her chance to experience a quintessential event of adolescence – attending her Prom. The Cinderella Dreams Project aims to help shoulder the financial burden of attending this formal event by providing gowns and accessories for free to any girl who, like Cinderella, needs help obtaining a gown for the ball.

The Cinderella Dreams Prom Dress Project is held each spring.  During the late winter and early spring, the club collects prom dresses, jewelry, shoes, makeup and other prom-related accessories that are donated at Richmond-area YMCA branches and Puritan Cleaners. A ‘shopping’ event is then held, where girls can shop for and select a dress and accessories for free. Since 2006, Cinderella Dreams Project has partnered with local businesses to help hundreds of girls fulfill their prom dreams at no cost to them!

The Cinderella Dreams Project is now accepting donations of new and gently used gowns in current styles for 2012.
