Joslin Center for Diabetes Realizes High Hopes at Fundraising Gala

Joslin_logo1The Joslin Center for Diabetes had considered using electronic bidding for the past few years and were ready to take the plunge in 2013 for their High Hopes Gala. AE Events, an event design and production company, helped Joslin in their search for an electronic bidding company that would help them elevate their event. When AE Events presented options of companies that offered mobile bidding technology, Joslin chose to use IML Fundraiser because it was the most user-friendly system and they do not take a percentage of the profits raised.

 

The evening of the gala, bidding “went swimmingly,” according to Kevin Hudson, Joslin’s Development Officer, Special Events. They received great feedback from the guests, who said the electronic bidding was exciting and easy to use. Guests loved the outbid alert feature and were constantly using their IML Connectors to see if they had been outbid on any items.

Tipping Point Benefit Raises $8.5 Million to Prevent Poverty

Tipping Point Community, the Bay Area’s leading poverty-fighting organization, today announced that its annual benefit held last night raised $8.5 million, and 100 percent of the money raised will go to local nonprofits that provide education, housing, employment and wellness services to low-income individuals and families, as Tipping Point’s board underwrites all event costs.

It is no secret that a properly planned, hosted and executed event can be an amazing asset to your business. It’s extremely important that when you are planning your next event, you gather as much crucial information as possible before you ever get started. Some of the most common mistakes made during event planning may seem rather obvious, but they can easily occur amidst your busy planning schedule.

1. Short Marketing Cycle - Always make sure you allot enough time to effectively market your event. Too little time means too few attendees. This article from Scribd says a good rule of thumb is 90-120 days in advance for any medium-sized event averaging around 75 attendees.

13 Essential Elements of Successful Fundraising Events

Tips for Successful Fundraising EventsWhether hosting a fundraising event for a school, church, non-profit organization or any other entity, certain planning requirements remain the same. In a recent post on The Fundraising Authority blog, several steps were identified to incorporate into planning. We’ve added to the list to create the 13 essential steps of any successful fundraising event.

 

1. Determine the event’s purpose. Is the goal to raise funds, gain publicity or develop a presence in a new market? In some cases, events have a combination of goals. For example, a charity dinner might be hosted to gain publicity for a non-profit organization, with a secondary purpose of raising funds.

 

2. Set a fundraising goal. The goal should be based on what the organization would like to net after accounting for all expenses. The event host committee, organization staff and key fundraisers can all help in determining this goal.

 

3. Plan for a budget. Budgets must encompass staffing, venue, food and drinks, entertainment, invitations, and security costs, among many other possible items. The most successful fundraising events also account for unexpected costs during budgeting.

 

4. Decide on a host committee. This group of donors, business leaders or celebrities can help an organization reach its fundraising goals by contributing funds and encouraging others to do the same. They may not be responsible for planning the event, but they’ll be vital to reaching fundraising goals.

 

5. Pinpoint the target audience. Determining who will be invited to the event will dictate much of the planning. For example, is the event geared toward a group of business leaders, parents of school children, families or other specific group?

IML Delivers Fundraiser in the Aftermath of Hurricane Sandy

Two days after Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast, parts of New York City were underwater and out of power – simply getting in or out of the city was a challenge in itself. But that didn’t stop the Korean American Community Foundation (KACF) from holding their fundraiser, and IML from delivering their electronic bidding solutions.

 

From challenges in delivering equipment, to bridge closings and a lack of transportation options, IML’s technicians overcame every obstacle in their path. Once they arrived at the venue, they set up and the event kicked off. The event and the auction ran smoothly; KACF was pleased with the success of their event, and raised over $100,000 with the help of IML’s fundraising technology!
