Furever in my heart

This past Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, my Nixon Kitty went to heaven. He had cancer and it was progressing fast. I made the hardest decision of my life and decided to let him go peacefully. I was able to be with him as he slipped into the arms of Jesus. I very much believe our precious pets go to heaven. We love them so much, God loves us so much, it just makes sense that they will be there waiting for us on that day we arrive at the pearly gates.

Nixon came into my life when he was just six months old in July 2004. It was love at first sight. He worked his kitty charm and got himself a home.

As I've been telling others of his passing, I've heard these words to describe him... "Beautiful, handsome, sweet, big." Yes, he was all these things and much more. Nixon was the "bestest cat around," as I'd often tell him. He was the most gentle giant, weighing in at 20 lbs. note he was not a fat cat, just large in size. His purr was the sweetest sound, his cold nose kisses warmed the heart and his gentle touch calmed my soul. His furs so shiny and soft caught many a tear from my eye. He was with me through the good and bad. He was more than my friend, he was my baby.

Nixon was the first pet that was ever truly my pet. He loved me unconditionally and I returned his love. I miss him dearly. It hurts so bad, but, I would not trade the 9 years we had together. I love you Nixon, forever and always. You are my favorite. Here's your special song one last time...

Here's my Beta Madison. He's a good fish. I go him last winter. I picked him up at Pet Smart and met a friend for dinner at Gold Star. The waitress was very intrigued that I took a fish out to dinner.

Took Ricky to the groomer/vet today. The poor pug was trembling in the car. It was as though he knew. We go there and the staff actually remembered him from previous visits. He's known as the squealer! He's so dramatic when it comes to nail trims.

Here's Nixon playing with a new "mouser-mouse." He is so cute when he plays, he looks like a giant kitten (Nixon weights in at 20 lbs. he's not fat, just BIG). It's funny ever since I've had him, he's taken a special liking to green toys, especially the toy mice. What's your cat's favorite toy? Do they follow a color pattern too?

My carnival fish, Fish, who I won last summer is still goin' strong. He's even gotten bigger. A few months ago I got him a nice bigger aquarium. He really really enjoys it. He love swimming around and around. He loves feed time too. He's a smart goldfish and when you shake the food cup he comes swimming to the top gulping for the food.

Many people don't realize, but fish really are excellent pets. They are pretty easy to care for and are great for apartments or for those who don't have the time to care for a cat or dog. Fish are relaxing and fun to watch. I've always wanted a salt-water aquarium with super fancy beautiful fish. Maybe some day. I know my cats would really enjoy it.

A fish was actually my very first pet, well at least the first one that was all mine. It was many may moons ago and I was a small child and again at a carnival. I couldn't get a ball into one of the little bowls, so the gentleman promised that if I hit him on the head, he'd give me a fish. Sure enough I hit him on the head and won my fish.

Very sadly, Seamore (as he was named) was found floating at the top of his bowl the very next day. I was young and my parents didn't have the heart to tell me that he had died. Instead they said he just wasn't feeling well. That day, while I was in kindergarten, they purchased a replacement. It's my understanding that they purchased a replacement several times.

Until I was a little older and they felt it was time, they explained to me why my fish was really floating at the top of the bowl. I accepted his death and we gave him a proper burial. Yeah, we buried him in my grandma's back yard. I remember heading to the yard with my fish's cold body and asking my mother (using my young hopeful logic): "Will we grow more fish." It was the perfect comic relief moment.

As I mentioned, fish are great pets. If you have a goldfish PLEASE do not keep the misconception that they can live in a fish bowl without the proper equipment. Goldfish need to have a filter in order to breathe. It' really enhances their quality of life and prolongs their life. Also NEVER overfeed your fish. A rule of thumb is to sprinkle in only the amount of food your fish can gulp in a few seconds.

I just adore Nativity scenes. I have a little collection going and I set them out each year for Christmas. Every year I try to catch a live Nativity too. There's something just so special about the scene of the Savior's birth and seeing it live just allows it to really hit home.

Today I'm going to share one of my most favorite things about Christmas time... Christmas trees! I LOVE em. I especially love what I call tacky trees, no theme, no rhyme or reason just lights, garland and a variety of ornaments!

This year I ventured out and have two trees. My traditional artificial (tacky as they come) and a real one, two-foot high white pine. I decorated the real one with just a few little bulbs. The cats love both trees and have had a wonderful time stealing and hiding the ornaments on both trees. Silly kitties!
