3rd Philippine Pyromusical Competition: MALTA vs. SOUTH KOREA

Don't you love fireworks?We all do!Well, the SEASON OF FIREWORKS has started.February to March is the time when the skies of Manila light up in colorful fireworks display.Yes, the 3rd Philippine International Pyromusical Competition has begun!

Last Saturday, February 11 was the opening day where MALTA and South Korea got the chance to heat things up. The reception from the public was warm. Many people flocked to the bay side of SM Mall of Asia in Pasay to watch the spectacle.

Last 2011, China reigned supreme as it took the glorious trophy and placed United Kingdom and Japan in the second and third spots, respectively. This 2012, China and United Kingdom are back to compete once again in this prestigious event.

THE VERDICT

I called my correspondent on the phone to make sure I get her first hand account of the performance of the two countries and not just judge it on the photos. Based on my experience last year, some performances could be photogenic but since it's a pyromusical, it's more about the feeling it gives the audience as the fireworks coincide with the chosen music.What could be photogenic could feel dull in person.,after all, this is not just a fireworks display, it's a PYROMUSICAL.

So what's my correspondents verdict? MALTA nailed it.Her reasons, South Korea's fireworks are very typical and lacked diversity.Also, the music was kinda dull.Malta was able to put together the elements in harmony.

There are of course other strong contingents like China, the UK and Italy so you have to look out for that. Let's see who wins this year's competition. I will try to update you with it here in my blog. Listed below is the complete schedule so be sure you join the fun.The experience is still at its best when seen live.

These are all very important dates to me and my wife. Our birthdays fall within those dates and our anniversary as a couple happens to be January 28. Yep, we turned 12 years last January 28.It was yet another memorable day for us. We went back to our hometown Anda to transact a very important business then proceed to the nearby town Bolinao Pangasinan to celebrate life and love.

Quick recall: I was in Bolinao with a group of bloggers more than a year ago and we were toured around Patar by Puerto del Sol. That was when I learned about the ROCK FORMATIONS of Patar.

One of our companions, Ada, pointed to a nearby site where she and her photography friends camped overnight. That sparked my desire ever since to take my wife there and camp together. Luckily, got to talk to Ms. Melody, the Marketing head of Puerto del Sol. She offered that for our safety, we can just stay in their property -

-----our goal was to make our 12th ANNIVERSARY unique and extra special, the camping at SEA CAVE Rock Formations of Patar was a perfect fit!

I feel privileged such offer was extended to us even without me asking.For the record, the SEA CAVE in Patar Bolinao is a private property of Puerto del Sol Resort. It is still virtually untouched but the resort has future plans for the area. It is currently part of the DAY TOUR itinerary that Puerto del Sol offers to it's Hotel guests.One of the surprises of the land tour if I may add as I was also awed by it the first time we went there.

Places like the SEA CAVE are for me a perfect place for some intimate dates,say, camping under the moonlight. This is where me and my wife----exclusively spent the night on January 28,2012.

SEA CAVE

The Sea Cave is part of an area on the eastern coast of Bolinao along Barangay Patar between Puerto del Sol and Patar White beach characterized by rugged rock formations as a result of sedimentation and the constant battering of sea waves.Despite the rocky punctuations, there are areas of powdery white sand and a few shrubs and trees adorn the landscape.The area, although near the main road, is non-residential so you get the feeling of nature and isolation.

NEARBY ROCK FORMATIONS

The entire stretch of Rock Formations is a few kilometers long. This private property of Puerto del Sol is side by side another property which is also open to the public.We walked there in the afternoon shortly after setting up our tent.We saw a couple of tourists on the rocks gleefully taking photos. Me and my wife also took advantage of the setting sun to snap a few shots...........

THE NIGHT WITH ONLY US

Though also a private property, the original spot where we planned to camp has been explored by some vacationers from Manila where they camp overnight. I was therefore anticipating that there are other people at least nearby. Surprisingly, nobody camped in the area that night except us.The whole coastline was all for us with the moon lighting our one of the most intimate time together.Let's face it, given the life that we have these days, being physically isolated from our friends or family could often be next to impossible. We love being together. Right. But sometimes, you wanna break away from the crowd and be in a place where there's no one except you two. We were successful on that note.

Actually, there were supposed to be six or more of us. Our friends and two other bloggers planned to join us.It was a welcome thing to me. The more the merrier din diba. Plus I have issues with security sometimes. But a series of events lead to one cancellation to another, until there were only the two of us left.l The show must go on, at any rate, we originally planned to have it only between us.

TALK ABOUT SECURITY, yeah, I have issues with security----well,sometimes.The fact that I live in the nearby town made me confident about the people in the area. Westerner Pangasinan folks are warm and peaceful so I was not worried at all. In terms of our personal stuff, the property has a caretaker who made sure people dont enter the gate without his knowledge. That's another blanket of security there. Translate that---a very peaceful night sleep under cool moonlit night of Bolinao Pangasinan.

Talked to Kuya Jose the, the caretaker of the property, the day before.Turns out he has tricycle so we agreed that he take us to Patar Lighthouse and Patar White Beach. At any rate, the shuttle of Puerto del Sol will not be coming until lunchtime to take us back to the Resort where we were scheduled to have lunch again.

Most of our morning was spend on the lighthouse and the beach where we took a dip for more than an hour.

Got to explore the other side of Patar beach. The Southern part where more people dont go. We weere supposed to walk further but we didn't have much time left so we decided to do it next time. This will definitely be our last visit here....

We went back to SEA CAVE at exactly 12 noon to wait for our shuttle back to PUERTO del SOL but I was texted by the front desk officer that it will be delayed 30 minutes or so. Good thing Mang Jose has the perfect goodies after a tiring tour of the area and sunbathing in the beach---FRESH BUKO JUICE to top it all!!!Then off we go to La Playa Restaurant for lunch.

Right after having the relaxing SONYA's SIGNATURE MASSAGE,http://www.pusangkalye.net/2012/02/spa-at-sonyas-garden-and-their.html got the chance to talk personally to Mrs. Brown, the manager of Sonya's Garden.She walked us through the property and even invited us to take a peek into another Sonya's Garden pride----SONYA'S BED and BREAKFAST.

This is a new addition to the attractions of the place. For sure I have heard of it before but it's something I never took seriously.So I guess you can understand my surprise when we were taken here. Who would ever think that somewhere in the deep corners of Sonya's are accommodations you would wish for.

The place is sorrounded by plants, flowers and trees. You get the feeling that you are in a secure forest.The fact that Sonya's Garden is located in Alfonso Cavite, away from all the noise and pollution of an urban setting despite its proximity in Tagaytay means you are assured of a place of peace and serenity.

"All the Bed and Breakfast cottages are named after herbs, which, like her garden, reflect Sonya’s love for aromatic things. Inspired by her simple country lifestyle, the Bed and Breakfast facility was born out of insistent pleas from guests to stay awhile longer in Sonya’s private sanctuary."

Sanctuary is the perfect word. Personally, feels like entering a different world.What makes the bed and breakfast unique is because when you decide to check in, you are choosing a healthy lifestyle. I asked if humidity is of any concern among guests especially during rainy season, but according to them, no guest has ever complained about it. I guess it's not a problem then.The rooms are designed with large netted windows so fresh air can flow in and out of the rooms while making sure the insects and mosquitoes stay out.

We had to remove our shoes before entering this room and the feeling once inside is one with cleanliness and peace. Hope I didn't use the word cleanliness in an awkward way there. You just feel clean, literally.Even your bad thoughts would disappear. Even the restrooms are very spacious and clean.I can sleep here.hahaha

dreaming of meeting SOMEDAYDREAM someday

Girls screamed when they saw him on tv and fainted the moment they heard him sing.Yeah, this good looking lad from Ateneo de Manila is another example of how exciting Pinoy music can become (to the girls) and how unfair life is (to the boys).Sheyt, he has it all! Kidding aside, I also got excited when I learned about him in the same way that I always get excited whenever fresh Pinoy talents enter mainstream.For me, he represents the promise of OPM.SOMEDAYDREAM is a proud-Pinoy Electro Pop act.

.......and it is my dream of meeting SOMEDAYDREAM someday. That is after I missed the 1st ever Somedaydream Blogger's Meetup last Feb.1. Damn, I missed him perform live! Talk to a couple of foodies and all of them agree that Mcafe in Marriott Hotel Manila raised the standard of dining in the Philippines.If you ask me to describe their food selection in one sentence, I would say "tasty to the minutest bite!".

But Mcafe doesn't want to stop there, now it's raising that standard even higher. Yes, MARRIOTT CAFE has expanded their menu to expand your smile,they piled on CRU STEAK, packed in extra FOIE GRAS, stacked additional OYSTER BAR, loaded a superfluous MARTINI BAR,added more seafood counter and made their vast menu even more ample!

I was lucky to be one of the few bloggers invited last Sunday to experience its SUNDAY BRUCH BUFFET and the experience was another one to remember.

THE CRU STEAKHOUSE

Meat lovers will be delighted to know that Cru Steakhouse’s specialties are incorporated in it. Whether you choose Angus beef ribe eye, strip loin steak, grilled tiger prawns, grilled calamari, lapu lapu, with your choice of marination, these offerings are enough to make anyone say the price is so worth it. Plus, everything comes with an ample supply of mashed potato, roasted pumpkin, and the most favorite grilled veggies from asparagus, corn, tomato, and leeks.

THE CHOCOLATE ROOM

If there’s one station that is bound to thrill both kids and adults, that’s the huge chocolate room located at the left side corner of Marriott Café, presenting heavenly and most luxurious chocolate spread one can ever imagine. The jampacked work week will surely be compensated once you step in a room filled with these adorable cakes: raspberry ganache pound cake, milk chocolate mouse with caramel gelee, and Maracaibo chocolate cheesecake. And of course, the excitement of many residents of Manila to see Hollywood stars running around their neighborhood and the viral videos over youtube over Rachel Weisz and other casts.I am referring to----------- The BOURNE LEGACY.

The BOURNE LEGACY is an upcoming 2012 film which will be the fourth installment of the Bourne Film Series based on the Jason Bourne Novels of Robert Ludlum and Eric Van Lustbader. And the trailer is out!!!!Sooner than I anticipated but it's out!

I HATE this TRAILER!It's so suspense I wanna watch the movie tomorrow!And the background musical score doesn't help. I am sorry but I haven't read the book yet so I have no idea at all how the story will go. That excites me even more!

Also, my curiousity is killing me as to how Manila will be projected in this film. And how long will the exposure be? Will there be aerial sjots of Makati CBD? Sana naman. This is going to be one hell of a promotional marketing tool for the Philippines just in case.Let's hope in a good way. Sh*t. Can't wait!

It's only February 7 but as early as last week I have been reading tweets and Facebook status updates about dates and the lack of it among my peeps. Valentines is such a BIG DEAL in the Philippines.Understandably, this is a country with a population very expressive and putting a lot of emphasis on love relationships.Don't get me wrong, I am not against it, I am also a romantic.I believe in love. I believe in relationships.

But what if the other person is UNOFFICIALLY YOURS, would you stay in a relationship or just walk away? Such is the dilemma in the latest Star Cinema movie with the same title----UNOFFICIALLY YOURS.

The challenge is to take it to another level and make it appear like its just a partnership for pleasure without commitment. For sure, teh viewers would droll over a couple of sex scenes, three I heard. I am excited to see that.hahaha. But this amazing piece of heavenly place in Alfonso Cavite is bigger than reception and dining.

It is according to my therapist a combination of SWEDISH, SIATSU and Thai massage. Shiatsu relaxes the muscles, Swedish strokes improves blood circulation Thai massage.

We were here on Lunar New year, January 23 at around 2pm.The massage area is quite packed with guests so we had to wait for around 30 minutes. We were lead to a couples room on the ground floor.........

Here's how the massage area looks like. Capiz shell doors and wood on concrete white floors made a good appeal on me.......

There are three beds in the couple's room. I asked why. So that maybe a third wheel could be accomodated? Kidding. The room is very big I guess so they decided to fill it with a 3rd bed so as to fill the void. There is a hot and cold shower inside so you can clean yourself before the massage. that's what I did so I asked my therapist to wait a few minutes.

Once you start, you could notice fresh flower petals on a basin one you lie flat on your belly on the massage bed. Cool.Therapists could be male or female depending on your choice. If you are into really hard massage, I suggest you request for a male therapist unless you are the sadistic type who wants to burden your masseur with the required heavy strokes. There are only a few male therapists though so it would be better to mention your request once you make the reservation. We had no choice so my wife and I both went for female masseurs. Back in Boracay Mandarin Spa, my wife and I also stayed in a couple's room. She had a female therapist while I had male.Should it be allowed, my wife said she would prefer a male therapist too since her muscles are also tight.

As I said, we were assigned female therapists and the one given to her is quite old so we had to remind them from time to time to increase the pressure. The combination of the three strokes is indeed relaxing. And one thing I love which I never tried in other massage facilities is the introduction of HOT PACKS. I heard they are stuffed with rice grains inside, they put it inside the microwave to heat and are placed on certain pressure points on your body. They could get really hot so be sure to communicate with your therapist if the heat too much for you to handle. But its really relaxing. Pang alis daw ng lamig sa katawan :)

After 1 hour of SONYA"S SIGNATURE MASSAGE, my wife and I were rejuvenated. On our way out of the massage area, we ran accross some customers have food spa in this love lovely section. Sorrounded by garden, this peaceful place is a perfect place for self pampering.

My stargazing session was interrupted when the front desk receptionist called my attention and introduced me to the Mrs. Brown, the manager of Sonya's Garden.She was very warm and I was surprised when she said she is going to show us another aspect of the place, the world renown ----BED AND BREAKFAST---another reason why you should try SONYA's.

Me and my students usually surf youtube when we get bored coz there's nothing much to talk about and search for some funny commercial Such was the case this morning and I noticed a couple of interesting ones today.It's Super Bowl XLVI in the United States and as usual, commercials are going neck to neck to compete for the attention of the millions of Americans who watch the best attended professional domestic sports league in the world measured by average attendance per game.

One which caught my attention is the the super bowl commercial of THE VOICE -----the reality singing competition in the US.Here, celebrity coaches Christina Aguilera, Adam Lambert, Cee Lo Green and Blake Sheldon Smack Down in a fashionable manner. I love Christina Aguilera's tricks here.She could very well give Cameron Diaz a run for the money as a Kill Bill main act....

The VOICE SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL: Season 2 opens February 6

And yeah, I just remembered thanks to this commercial that the VOICE Season 2 airs today in the US and we are lucky here in Asia coz AXN-Asia will be broadcasting it within 24hours of US airing.This season, show producer Mark Burnett has added more rounds of blind auditions and each of the coaches’ teams will be expanded to 12 singers each.

The ante is certainly upped in terms of the diversity and quality of the contestants this season, with Aguilera bagging ‘everything from an opera singer, powerhouse MC to soul singers’ on her team. As I was saying, Last january 7 was the exhibition game for a cause between AZKALS and Internacional de Madrid Club de Fútbol (CF) but we didn't watch that one. We had something more important to do.lols. This year was kinda different though. My wife was busy so she wasn't able to make it. She doesn't usually mix with bloggers but last year's MARK RYAN FESTIVAL eb was her first time to get immersed in the community and she enjoyed it. If I am not mistaken, this one is Jim's 1st inuman session with bloggers. Nice meeting you Jim.

At ang gulo-gulo namin. Lalo na si Otep na makulit. hahaha. This is what I like about people from UBlog. Ang ko-cool.Walang pataasan ng ihi, walang attitude (ako lang), no pretensions. Just be yourself, enjoy the moment and enjoy the company. We feel comfortable at each other and the night went on with us laughing and chatting and drinking. I guess that's what I wanna say here. We decided to go to Tagaytay after Mt. Maculot and the quick visit to TAAL TOWN Batangas. We stayed in a cheap place called Sierra Traveller's Inn along Aguinaldo Highway in Mendez.If your entry point from manila is Olivarez, it's on the right side leading to Nasugbu past Robinsons and The 1.5 hours supposed travel from Taal via fx took us 2hours due to the traffic congestion once we entered Tagaytay. I thought it was because of the Chinese New Year rush but turned out that one famous establishment was causing all of it ------BAG OF BEANS....and according to the driver, it's a regular thing during meal hours. I suppose its really that famous that it causes heavy flow of vehicles in the area.

That sparked our curiosity so we thought of checking it the next day.............

We stuffed ourselves with lots of bulalo the night before so we were asleep for 10hours.It was brunch when we got up and we were scheduled for massage in SONYA's GARDEN by 2pm so we thought a heavy meal is not a good idea.BAG OF BEANS has a restaurant wing but we went to the Bread Store instead where there is a CAFE at the balcony. That's where we tried some of their signature delicacies......

first, THE CAFE INTERIOR.............

it's more of an open air type Cafe on a cozy balcony.This is exactly the ambiance that I want in a place like Tagaytay where the weather is cool.It's small but not congested.Simple yet functional chairs and tables.Colorful Walls.Perfect.

WHAT WE ORDERED

We ordered HOUSE BLEND COFFEE, sylvannas, strawberry cheesecake and Sheperd's Pie. The typical me. Teresa loved the Pie while I enjoyed the cheesecake.I know right, cheesecakes are everywhere but I love cheesecakes so don't blame me. The thing I noticed about BAG OF BEAN's cheesecake is that there is a layer of Grahams cracker in the middle so when it gets kinda messy when you cut it with fork.But the taste is good.Not the best I tried but still a good bite.

Nothing very special about the HOUSE BLEND COFFEE but for the sake of experiencing it,sige na nga.hihihi. Or I am not really a critic of coffee so I can't determine the difference. The Sylvanna's are a must try.Best eaten chilled. The Shepperd's Pie????? It was good. Yun lang. As I said, it was Teresa's favorite.

The food in the Cafe of BAG OF BEANS Tagaytay is kinda pricey but worth it. I was after the place too as I find it accessible yet not too crowded. At least in the cafe area. We therefore didn't feel the rush and savored every bite instead.When you visit Tagaytay, I suggest you drop by and experience it. I am sure they have a lot of goodies fit for the budget that you will love ........

There goes another lame food review.hahaha

Pause with my Lunar New Year Holiday entries first as I wanna tell you what I missed in Manila while I was away. There were lots of event invites that particular weekend-----the presscon of the movie MY CACTUS HEART, the Enchanted Kingdom event and of course the CHINESE NEW YEAR Special of ASAP2012 Live at Quirino Grandstand.

It was a long weekend due to LUNAR NEW YEAR so we decided to go to Tagaytay to relax after the climb/camping in Mt.Maculot.. Instead of taking Lipa Route, went the other way and boarded the jeepney to Lemery Batangas---25 pesos away from Cuenca. The idea is to pass by TAAL TOWN before proceeding to Tagaytay. I have been wanting to see this sleepy Batngas town and the famous Basilica de San Martin de Tours popularly known as TAAL CHURCH.......

Yeah, there is scuh thing as TAAL Town, take note, Taal Town not Taal Volocano. It's only 5 minutes away from the center of Lemery.To think about it, it's very close to Manila but many of us probably never been there,worse,never heard of it.

I've been reading about it in blogs but last January 22 was my first time to set foot in this Heritage town. I would say I was impressed. Being here is like entering a different dimension.

Basilica de San Martin de Tours,TAAL CHURCH is considered to be the largest church in the Philippines and in Asia, standing 96 metres (315 ft) long and 45 metres (148 ft) wide. The interior is impressive.Here are some of the photos I took............

In front of the church is a small park where you can sit and marvel at the beauty of the Old church and the surrounding heritage buildings. The church is facing the plaza and the municipal Hall. We were too tired and sleepy when we were there so we didn't have the energy to go around. Will do so next time. I am planning to hike the crater of TAAL VOLCANO and will be passing by Taal Town again visit other heritage houses.

And the town maybe sleepy but I find it orderly.Peaceful.The sorrounding establishments are fun to look at, the 7/11 is tailored to fit the overall architecture and feel of the downtown area. Even the nearby pawnshop is housed in an old building too. Cool!!! Wala lang. Not that it's my first time to see heritage houses right, all I am saying is, I never thought something like this could exist in Batangas which I consider an extension of the metropolitan buildup area. Probinsyang -probinsya ang dating.Love it!!!

HOW TO GET THERE:

Just board the bus from Cubao bound LEMERY Batangas. I think the fare is only around 100 pesos(ordinary). There were no airconditioned buses in Alabang terminal that time and we were with 10 other strangers so I didn't complain. Bawal maarte. :)From Lemery, it's only a tricycle/jeepney away for 5 minutes.

In our case, we stayed for an hour then took the jeepney to Lemery. It's very near (pwede ngang lakarin Lemery na) But the jeepney doesn't pass by the fx terminal to Tagaytay so we had to ride the tricycle again. I thought taking the fx is more comfortable although it's only an hour or so drive to Tagaytay.What we didn't know is that the fx route is Lemery-Paliparan (Dasmarinas) and even if your destination is only Tagaytay, you have to pay the full rate of 130pesos.Whatever. Comfort is still the priority.

MOUNT MACULOT is where I celebrated my 31st Birthday

There are TWO THINGS I hate about my birth month. One, it happens a few days after Christmas and New Year I am always broke, two,it's too early in the year I get to get older first before everybody else does.Yeah, I just turned 31 last January 21. That was a Saturday but I didn't really plan for any unique way of celebrating due to the 1st reason. That until my wife's sister,Sheila, introduced her boyfriend to us last New Years eve, Jessie, and turns out that he is a mountain climber. He mentioned about their plan to climb Mt. Maculot on January 21 so we thought joining their group is a perfect way to celebrate my birthday----maiba naman.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING was one of the things I failed to do in 2010. I wanted to experience real mountain climbing in contrast to the impromptu hike to Mt. Samat one April day in 2009 where I was wearing my PONY Chuck Taylor type shoes and holding a pillow we brought for the trip.My feet felt sore after 3 hours of following the cement road going up so I walked on the way down with only my socks on.Crazy. And so I though of doing it again in proper mindset and gears this time around. I was targeting Mt.Batulao in Batangas as I never heard of MOUNT MACULOT before.It's in Batangas din pala in a sleepy town they call CUENCA. I googled for some photos a few days before the trip but only found a few impressive ones so I set my expectations low on this one......

THE NIGHT TREK

..............before I get too cocky with the photos on top of the mountain,let me recall the climb first. We left Alabang at around 8:30pm Saturday. We made a couple of stops since there's no more bus bound Lemery batnagas. LIPA was the first stop where we shopped for a few goods at the 7/11 convenience store there. We boarded the jeepney to Cuenca which is 24 pesos away from Lipa. We got to Cuenca past 11pm boarded the tricycle to the jump-off for 20pesos each then off we go.

Some people said it's a 3 hour climb. ART, the leader of our group, that we can have it for an hour or two---even 45 minutes if we are fast.Wow!!. MOUNT MACULOT is around 800feet high according to ART so I guess it's not too high.What I didn't expect was that the climb is a continues ascend. I thought we would go zigzag of some sort but it was more of a continuous vertical climb.

Well at least they got me there when they said its for beginners.I anticipated its easy to climb pero hindi pala.Still kinda difficult for me with signs of ageing like aching back and knees sorta stuff manifesting. I was also carrying a heavy bag that time.Sh*t, I still don't know how to travel light.Good thing some of our colleagues were kind enough to offer carrying some of our things like the tent,water, bed rolls and the heavy bottle of tequila I bought in convenience store....

Maybe it was not so beginner level for me but the cool breeze of mountain air was comforting. Plus the 12 stops/stations along the way made things easier.On top of that, there were 14 of us, and most of our colleagues,though we met them for the first time, are experienced mountain climbers. They reminded us to take our time, to pace ourselves and not to hurry as there is no trophy waiting for us in the summit. It's about taking one step at a time and enjoying it. We reached the campsite after 1hour 30 minutes. That was fast!!!!

WAKING UP
-----------THE CAMPSITE

It was already 1am when we got to the campsite.It was packed with other hikers so we had to walk further to find a spot where we can set up our tents.It was windy that night but putting up the tent was such a breeze.My wife is a girl scout coordinator in Mandaluyong so she was the one teaching me how to do it.haha

When all was set, we unpacked our food and started gathering together. We chatted until 4am over alcohol then napped for 2 hours in time for the sunrise.

THE CLIMB TO THE ROCKIES

Your climb to MOUNT MACULOT will never be complete without climbing THE ROCKIES.It's not the peak but another section of the mountain on the western side allowing you to have a good view of the sorrounding plains and TAAL LAKE. This one caught me by surprise. I never anticipated it could be damn beautiful up there in the ROCKES.

Another 15minutes or so and you are on the top of the rockies.It's an easy climb but you have to be careful with your footing coz it's really steep. We stayed here for more than 2 hours.It's here where one can really appreciate nature at its best.It's here where every angle is different.It's here where the expression "looking at life in a different perspective" makes sense. Each angle here is unique and pleasing to the eyes and the cool wind a delight to the senses.

THE PROPOSAL

One major highlights of our climb in the Rockies was the proposal of jessie to his girlfriend Sheila. Everybody was busy when Jessie suddenly made a scene.hahaha. So we were like what??????speechless. It took a few seconds to sink. Then everybody was cheering for them.Sweet!!!!!Congratulations to both of you!!!!

THE HIKE DOWN THE TRAIL

We had a quick breakfast and packed up at around 9:30am ready for the hike down.The group thought the earlier would be better so it would not be too hot. 90% of the route is dotted by trees so it was easy but it still helps if you don't hike when the day is not at its hottest.

It was during the hike down when we realized the route we took the night before. Mount Maculot is a feast to the eyes.It's clean and the tress are untouched.I love this mountain!!!!!

THE GRASSLAND

This part is worth the mention. I guess most mountains have grasslands and they are usually the final section before the peak. When ART mentioned that it's gonna be a 15 minute hike from there to the campsite, we thought its gonna be an easy-breezy one. WRONG. It was the hardest part of the trail for me as there are no trees to cling to and the grass could get really itchy on the skin. Yeah, be sure to bring something for your face or head and a jacket too or else you are in for an itchy night in the camp site. It was also longer than I anticipated. Or maybe I was too excited to get to the camp site that night.hahaha

BE SURE TO LOOK FOR THE SIGHS, it's kinda easy not to get lost actually but some people still do get lost. On our way down, we met a group of four who started just a few meters behind us but suddenly disappeared. We thought they took the elevator.hahahaha.Turns out they made the wrong turn and ended in a very tricky trail. Buwis buhay daw and they were so dirty when we saw them. They recalled how they survived the difficult night.Glad they were able to make it out safely.

There are signs along the way so be sure to look for them. Plues, Maculot is a famous place for mountaineers so its always with hikers.Be sure to also pay attention to where they are going.

Wanna say thank you to these awesome guys for making our first hike safe and memorable. Mga walang issues and arte sa katawan tong mga to so I was infected. Back there in Maculot, I was the accepting and walang arteng Antonio that I was before.Kaya naman palang matulog sa bed rolls eh. It was fun.

We were given complimentary GOLD seats for this show but we were seated on the side so my framing was off.It was the FINALE of the group's show in the Philippines so we thought it would be a bang,instead, a lot of mistakes happened. Me and my wife couldn't help therefore but think that it was amateurish. I think they need to step up with their stunts or at least make it clean so that people would look forward to watching them wherever they tour around the world. It was entertaining but it didn't fit our taste as discriminating adults.

Still, watching UNCLE SAM"S FLYING CIRCUS in Manila was a good experience. :)

TEENAGERS ALL OVER THE PHILIPPINES HAVE ANOTHER REASON TO BE EXCITED AGAIN.Actually, not just teenagers, including adults like me can definitely relate to this.

I am referring to the latest movie offering of star cinema which opened in cinemas nationwide today, January 25---MY CACTUS HEART.

It's a flick for those who have issues with love---people who were torn with love at some point in their life it hurts so much that they find it difficult to move on, more so, to love again.I am sure you will in one way or another see yourself in this movie....................

We can't therefore blame the character of Maja Salvador in the story if she is afraid to love again. Many of us undergo that situation. The thing is, how do we handle it? How the characters will deal with in the movie, we have to go to the cinema and find out.

JANG GA NAE Korean restaurant and the late CHRISTMAS exchange gift

THIS POST IS ABOUT ME CATCHING UP ON MY PERSONAL SOCIAL LIFE------When I quit work at an online ESL company way back 2008, I was not alone. Most of my batchmates braved the storm.Three years later, we have turned into a bunch of home based workers with salaries higher than the average employee but with no social life. In short, deprived.

Such is the case every Christmas. We all droll over the idea that everybody's busy exchanging gifts while we are on work mode.Yeah, we miss company Xmas parties. Such is our deprivation. We didn't even manage to meet prior Xmas or New year so I decided to call on a lunch date with them on January 7,2012. One of our friends,Josh, came up with the idea of exchange gifts. So there, we were very noisy in a Korean restaurant january 7 exchanging gifts and all like a bunch of deprived kids while people were looking, confused. :)

It was a day of food and catching up on each other. wanna share some of the photos I snapped in JANG GA NAE Korean restaurant in Ortigas.

JANG GA NAE Korean restaurant is as authentic as you can get when it comes to Korean food. The owner is Korean and it is named after her.It was formerly known as Menato and has a different feel before.Kinda miss the old interior. The food though is as good as ever.

...............asked the help of my student in South Korea to help me out in naming the following food and understanding what the ingredients are and how they are prepared. I am the worst food blogger in town you can find. I am into food blogging for the sake of eating. PS: Until now, I still prefer Korean food over Japanese food. Came back to Moshi Koshi in Shaw Blvd the other day to give Jap food another try but the satisfaction I get with Korean food is still more pleasant. I am not saying I will not be trying to like japanese food altogether, if I can remember, it took a few conscious effort to try Korean food before I fell in love with it.

My wife and her mom went to Baguio last December. yeah, I think I already said it ten times. Well, it was originally perceived as a date between mother and daughter but I hopped in to spoil the intimacy.hahaha. I was broken hearted coz I was not invited in an event in Manila which I have been anticipating for months but turned out that I didn't make the cut.If in case you know about this,just keep quiet, I am totally over it now. No more emotional angst. I am just recalling the reason why I suddenly ended up in Baguio despite not having any intentions to be there in the particular date.

The BenCab Museum houses the permanent collection of Philippine National Artist Benedicto Cabrera (BenCab) in several galleries, as well as venues for art shows and exhibitions. The Philippine Contemporary Art Galleries highlight the artist’s collection of paintings, drawings, prints, and sculpture. The smaller exhibition rooms contain other collections accumulated by BenCab through the years.

never thought BOATING in BURNHAM PARK could be fun

You should know by now that I am a big fan of Baguio City. I know how Baguio has transformed into a crowded,dirty city that it is now but what can I do,the weather is perfect for a melodramatic person like me and I have lots of good memories of the place and that's all that matters.Every time we go back, more good memories are added.Try BOATING IN BURNHAM PARK for example. I never tried it before.When I was young, I was allergic to seeing lovers rowing and laughing and hugging each other while people are delightfully watching. Bitter lang. hahaha.When I started dating, I thought I was not ready for that kind of public display of affection. When I was a little older, I thought it's a childish thing naman. Plus the water looks dirty I have the feeling I would die drinking it should the boat tip. Daming issues.

Yeah,I NEVER THOUGHT IT COULD BE FUN.Until recently, my wife decided to bring her mom in Baguio for a treat. My mother-in-law has never been to Baguio so my wife decided to introduce the basic stuff to her,you know, start with what kids usually do.I was forced to hop in since they needed somebody to row the boat except that my wife ended up rowing while I was busy taking photos........

This is the curse of a travel blogger,once you see a lot of beautiful places, it's not easy not to compare.But simple experiences like this one is something that you should value in life. It's cheap entertainment. And if you put your mind on what you are doing, you realize that you are trapped in the middle of the man-made lake and you have no other choice but to enjoy the ride.lols. Kidding aside, it could really be fun. Looking at the faces of the people trough the lens of my camera, I realized how simple things could bring so much delight to people.

Next time you go to Burnham Park Baguio, try boating. Bring out the kid or lover in you. It's fun.

Monday, January 23, was already declared by Malacañang as a non-working holiday in observance to the celebration of Lunar New Year so I am sure many of you will be out of town to take advantage of the long weekend. I was also thinking where I could possibly go with my wife and at an instant I thought of our trip to Baguio last December. Oh I already misssss Baguio!!!!

Wanna share to you the photos I took during our trip when we passed by WRIGHT PARK and watched people HORSEBACK RIDING. It's a good activity that you might want to consider when you visit Baguio..........

Horeseback Riding in WRIGHT PARK Baguio City

Tried it a few years ago and its really fun and easy. Don't worry if you are a first timer, there will be people to assist you. Either to ride with you or pull the horse to make it walk. Come on, even kids can do it so you might as well give it a try. Be careful though, the place is full of horse shit so watch out where you are stepping at. Enjoy!!!!!

I ADMIT, I HAVE NO TRAVEL PLANS YET FOR 2012. Scary. I thought I have wandered a lot last year and my wallet suffered as a result so I wanna save this year and invest a little. I think I should act fast.

I remember that we used the yellow budget airline from Cebu the first time we went out of the country and the succeeding trips thereafter.Prior to that, my wife and I were hesitant to book flights coz it cost a fortune. Budget airlines has opened the tourism sector to the not-so-wealthy thirsty travelers like us. It has never been this fun and cheap so if you haven't explored yet, I suggest you make the first move and indulge.

TOURISM=ACCESSIBILITY

We owe it to the budget airlines like AIRPHIL EXPRESS for giving that to us. We have so many beautiful places in the Philippines no doubt but they are difficult to access. The commute could be an adventure but not everybody has the luxury of time,say, 18 hours on a bus ride alone. Many of those who tarvel are working professionals.We should take that into account.Wonder why people prefer going to Phuket than Boracay? ACCESSIBILITY. Phuket's beaches might not be as good as that of Boracay but at least they are more accessible. That's good enough for somebody who badly needs a quick fix.

Budget Airlines promote tourism.I think one of the reasons why Malaysia is such a heavyweight on tourism is because of the presence of AirAsia which handles a lot of passengers each year. Let's support our local budget airlines and help make the Philippines more accessible.Soon, other hard to reach destinations will open up. That means more fun for everybody.

The WORLD"S WORST AIRPORT
has more problems than I anticipated.

Been asking my friends about their experience with Airphil Express so far. They've been telling me the same thing. FLIGHT DELAYS. Yeah, I also noticed that in my last 2 trips. The first time, we got delayed for more than an hour. The last time, for 30 minutes or so.

I was also quick to think that it was the airlines fault until I realized it's not the truth in most cases.NAIA is to blame.Yeah, the worlds worst airport. Turns out that the decaying terminal is not the only culprit---THE RUNWAY too. Yes, we only have 2 runways and adding more terminals wouldn't do any difference. I remember now that we were inside the plane in time but the plane couldn't take off because of HEAVY GROUND TRAFFIC. That explains it. And the problem is, NAIA is located in a highly saturated area and can't expand. Looks like we are in for more headache.

...........And I am not ready to jump into any suggestions. The problem is more complicated than my brain can handle.hahaha

PS: About the renovation of NAIA-1 though. Go for it parin. Para kahit doon lang bumawi tayo kesa dumagdag pa yan sa inconvenience ng mga passengers, both local and international.

TOURISM = JOBS for the Locals

Let's travel and spread the wealth. Since many places in the Philippines are hard to access, income desparity is also serious. Traveling means creating employment to people who live in the places we visit. It goes therefore that I DON'T ENCOURAGE "Super Tipid" travels. If you have spare money, share it. I am not saying you give it away for nothing, you might as well think of giving it to charity and just stay home right? What i am saying is, don't make limits like 350 per day budget. At wag ka naman nang makipag-baratan sa boatman or tricycle driver.Make sure they don't take advantage of you, but please don't take advantage of them either. When you meet a kid selling ornaments, it would not hurt if you buy one and give it as a pasalubong to your friends back home.Be generous.

Also, let's promote the places in the Philippines by spreading the word. Take lovely photos. Share them on Facebook or twitter. Never underestimate the power of social media. The Philippines is a social media heavyweight. We can trend a topic worldwide at will. Be part of the revolution. This is an empowerment made availbale to ordinary people like us.

A NEW GOAL
for travelling this 2012

I know I haven't made concrete plans yet but another urge is brewing. I WANT TO TRAVEL this year because I WANT TO CAPTURE the SMILES in the FACES of our people. That seems like a good plan. To travel to experience the fun and capture it for posterity......ang makita at maipakita ang saya ng mga tao sa Pilipinas. pak!!!!

................32 million Filipinos are expected to travel by 2016. That's a lot. Be one of them, Explore the Philippines and know your country and people more. Such a cliche but believe me, it will make more sense once you experienced it. CHOOSE PHILIPPINES---piliin mo rin ang Pilipinas. I am glad it has become a trend.Being a Filipino and exploring the Philippines has never been this trendy.

I had the wrong impression before that travelling abroad is better. That perception was SHATTERED when I got to explore our country more. Iba parin ang Pilipinas. I am not saying you don't go out of the Philippines ayt? Travel to other countries too and see the difference. You will realize how progressive our neighbors have become. We could learn many things from them.

I had fears I might get deluded by the glitter of other countries progress and think of the Philippines as a trash. I was wrong. I came to love the Philippines more after seeing Hongkong, Macau and Singapore. I hope to travel other countries too. ONE THING I CAN SAY, the more I travel outside the Philippines, the more I realize how lucky we are. Nature has blessed us a lot. The places in the Philippines are as warm and beautiful as its people are. I thought we only gave it as a consolation for our troubles but it's true, Filipinos are more warm and happy.
