I know it's been a long time since my last update, but with the holidays came computer upgrades. Yes, I got a new graphics card and 2 GB of RAM for Christmas. I love my parents. I've been using my newly acquired awesomeness to play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (and the expansions) nearly non-stop. I must say the graphics look astoundingly better, with no lag in sight. In addition my best friend and brother from another mother Shaun has let me borrow his Wii. Of course this means that this year's Winter-een-mas was especially enjoyable for me. In the midst of all this I have somehow managed to fit anime, movies, and volunteering at the American Red Cross doing dishes an additional day into my schedule. Though I have no source of income, there is much to do and not enough time to do it.

Regaurding anime I have compiled a giant list of anime which I desire to watch before 2010 comes to a close. You may be thinking "why make a list so early?" I'll tell you why, because the list is freaking ginormous:

Popotan; an adorable, weird, goofy, funny, kawaii-overdose ecchi (meaning tits) anime
Majutsushi Orphen (aka Orphen Season 1); for people who enjoyed magic anime like Slayers
World of Narue; Space girl comes to earth and falls in love with a boy, fun for everyone
Jigoku Shoujo; People get revenge on the evil jackasses who usually deserve it

Movies:
Blade Runner; For Sci-fi similar to The Fifth Element with Harrison Ford killing Replicants
9; An awesome animated steampunk movie produced by Tim Burton is like a cross between Fallout 3 and Little Big Planet (while that combination may seem sketchy, it actually works really well)
Bruno; While not as great as Borat (in my opinion) you still get some great moments from Sasha Baron Cohen

Queen's Blade

Sorry for not posting in so long, procrastination is my worst enemy. Anyways on with the blog!

Today's anime review is Queen's Blade. This is an ecchi anime which means there are boob shots a-plenty. Needless to say there is fan service in generous portions. Now that we have the nudity aspect out of the way, let's get to the actual story shall we? The plot is that there is a tournament known as the Queen's Blade where women fight to be known as the strongest and most beautiful. Of course all of the characters I have seen in this anime are beautiful, but that's besides the point. There's some pretty great action in this anime, and it's a kind of fantasy medieval sort of setting. So far I am greatly enjoying this series and will soon be reviewing Queen's Blade: Gyokuza O Tsugu Mono. This anime gets an 8/10 and you can watch it here.

A Slew of Steampunk Goodies

First of all I would like to talk about the game Torchlight. It's like Diablo 2.5. a Stepping stone between Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. It may seem like a knockoff but believe me it is worth a try. The graphics are very nicely stylized and the skills are fantastic. Also it's a steampunk game. And not only does it look great, it isn't a huge download and is relatively cheap. I love this game so much I've been playing it nearly non-stop. I'm going to have to award this game my RPG of the Year award, as well as a much deserved 10/10.

I also would like to mention the web-cast show Riese on koldcast.tv, which you can watch here. It's a steampunk show filmed in Canada and it looks fantastic. I'm just a sucker for anyone with a wolf companion. There have only been two episodes so far, and though short they are great episodes. I highly recommend it to any fan of fantasy and science fiction.

Flight of the Last Vampire

So I went to blockbuster yesterday and picked up some movies, as I am one to do. The movies that I'm reviewing are Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane and Blood: The Last Vampire. Neither of these movies were really that great. Both movies seemed to be fairly low-budget with casts of mostly unknowns. Flight of the Living Dead is pretty self explanatory, some sort of virus that was developed by the government to bring the dead to life is transported on a plane and eventually causes zombies to run a muck. 4/10 for only the fact that I love zombies so much. Blood: The Last Vampire is a 2009 live-action movie loosely based on the anime Blood+. I do mean loosely So loosely only the main character Saya is the only thing that's really in common. There is no other character from the anime in this movie, the plot is completely different and she even uses a different sword. It's not even the same as the 2000 animated movie by the same name that really launched the series. The effects weren't that great either, the "vampires" looked more like claymation of the late 80s/early 90s. Totally fucked that one up 1/10.

Sorry for not updating in so long. My computer decided to quit reading my browser so I was forced to upgrade to Windows 7 (which is actually a great improvement over Vista). This fixed the problem I had with the internet, but the Windows 7 decided to block access to my CD/DVD-ROM drive, so I was unable to complete my Halloween movies. Two weeks after posting a plea for help on the Microsoft Answers forum, I have yet to receive an answer to my problem. So yes in the back of my mind I have been quite pissed the past few weeks. But I shall post reviews of A Little Snow Fairy Sugar, Blood: The Last Vampire (2009), Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, Inuyasha, Flight of the Living Dead: Outbreak on a Plane, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and Miss Congeniality over the next few days. Friday the 13th 11 Movie Reviews

Seeing as how it would take a long time and a lot of effort on my part to review every single movie individually I'm going to lump some of them together.

Firstly there is the original movie. This is a great movie that started a generally good series of horror flicks. Mrs. Voorhees kills camp counselors who had let her disfigured son drown because they were off having sex. Very good movie 9/10.

The next two movies, Friday the 13th Part 2 and Part 3 shall be reviewed together. This is the beginning of Jason coming back to life to kill anyone who dares visit Crystal lake. Part 3 is when Jason gets his famous hockey mask and was also originally in 3D. Both of these get 7/10.

Parts 4-6 had some of my favorite deaths in the series, including someone getting their head slammed into the metal side of a van/RV so hard the face leaves an imprint. More greatness about these three include a young boy killing Jason with his machete, another young boy defying the horror stereotype regarding black people by surviving, a character lasting throughout 3 films and the cheesy yet somehow catchy end song of part 6, "Man Behind the Mask". I hereby grant all 3 movies a 8/10.

Parts 7-9 are where the series starts to take a turn for the worse. The plot is at its weakest. Trying to make it even more far out by adding a girl with telekinesis, transplanting Jason to Manhattan and turning Jason into some weird demon slug thing. Overall these movies suck pretty hard, however part 9 does have my favorite kill of the series in which a girl having sex is ripped almost completely in half by a highway reflective pole. These three get 5/10.

Jason X is the 10th movie in the franchise. This movie is a slight improvement over the last three, but not by much. Jason becomes frozen after killing someone and is reawakened in the future to kill and cause havoc. Some decent kills in this movie including the most difficult one in the franchise. It gets a 6/10.

The reboot of the franchise that came out earlier this year was honestly pretty good. Bringing a whole new sense of terror to the franchise. The kills are sadistic and well done. Honestly I greatly enjoyed this movie 8/10.

Sons of Awesome

I just started to watch Sons of Anarchy under the recommendation of my friend Pansy Warrior Princess. It stars Katie Sagal (voice of Leela on Futurama) and Ron Perlman (best known for his role as Hellboy) and quite a few others. The story revolves around a biker gang known as the Sons of Anarchy in the town of Charming. Specifically it focuses on Jacks, Vice President of the gang. It's a highly interesting show and I highly recommend it to everyone. The acting is phenomenal and the story is well written. Sons of Anarchy plays on FX, so check your local listings.

Hatchet

Hatchet is a horror film that is quite similar to Friday the 13th. The killer in this movie, much like Jason Voorhees, is disfigured, dies due to teenagers and kills in a variety of gruesome ways. Other comparisons that can be made to Friday the 13th are the nudity (there are breast shots abound in the start seeing as how it's base in New Orleans during Mardi Gras) and the mainly young cast. The movie stars Joel Moore (Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Grandma's Boy) and also features appearances by the great Tony Todd (known mainly for his role as Clive Barker's Candyman, but also a great stage actor) and Richard Riehle (Office Space, Grounded for Life). Overall it's a decent film, worth a rental perhaps. I give it a 6/10.

Zombieland

Zombieland is a story about a nerdy loser of a teen with a list of rules on how to survive in Zombieland. This movie stars Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone, along with some newcomers. If you love zombie deaths and hilarious characters, this movie is definitely for you. The comedy was amazingly well scripted and I loved every minute of it. Before I end up spoiling the movie I'll stop here and rate it 10/10.

Braindead

This is the 3rd movie directed by Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame. It uses classic gross-out techniques to horrify and disgust the viewer. though the techniques are outdated enough to no longer frighten, they do gross-out with gusto. It reminds me of the early Return of the Living Dead movies mixed with Gremlins, not really meant to be scary but meant to be gross and funny. Somehow I found it very entertaining and gave it a 7/10.

Amusement

The first movie of the month is called Amusement. You should absolutely not watch the second segment if you hate/fear clowns. There is one part where "The Laugh" is dressed as a clown and would give Pennywise a run for his money. The series of short stories is strung together by the psychotic killer known as "The Laugh". He stalks three women who he met when he was a boy. A psychotic as a child, The Laugh first encountered the three as a boy. honestly this is quite a creepy movie, and I loved every minute of it. An extremely well-made movie that actually didn't make a lot of money at the box office. Despite being a bit cliche for horror films I still thought the insane disposition of The Laugh was very entertaining. 8/10

October Fright Fest

Revolving Madness

So last night I saw the movie Revolver with Jason Statham and Ray Liota. A pretty good movie if you like watching insane acid-trip-like movies. Honestly I did enjoy it even if it did confuse the hell out of me most of the time. I think it's one of those movies where the more you watch it, the more sense it makes. Plus, how often do you find a movie where Jason Statham has semi-long hair and a 70s porn mustache? Not very often I'll tell you that right now. This movie is a total mind fuck and I recommend it to people who would like to see a cross between Barton Fink, Ocean's 11 and The Sopranos. Also let us not forget that Andre 3000, a member of the band Outkast did a pretty good job in this movie as well. I give it a well-earned 8/10.

Game Crash

I just got home from seeing the movie Gamer. It wasn't all it was cracked up to be. It's obviously a movie targeted at male gamers. It basically involves two games, Society (which is incredibly similar to Second Life) and Slayers (like a real version of Call of Duty 4). Now I like Gerard Butler and Ludacris but this movie really wasn't great. Sure, the action was cool and I did enjoy the nudity but other than that the plot seemed flimsy and not very original. It's like some hollywood screenwriter took all gamers for murder-loving sexual deviants. Given there are some of those out there but that doesn't mean we should all be generalized like that. Also it seemed even more gender biased when you notice that they didn't show one female gamer and the one female character of the game dies shortly after we're introduced to her. So, in summary, this movie isn't really worth seeing in theaters, and not really worth renting either. It gets a 3/10.

Nicholson and Freeman Score some Buckets

I just got done from sitting down and watching a 2007 movie called The Bucket List. It stars Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman playing two guys who meet in a hospital, both of them with cancer. They make a list of things to do before they die. HBO labeled it as a comedy and, while I agree there are a few funny bits in it, I think it would be better described as a drama. The movie was very human, I could see this sort of thing happening, if it hasn't already. Both Nicholson and Freeman were both fantastic in the movie and I give it a well earned 10/10. If you don't at the very least feel sad at the end of the movie, you have no heart.

This is the Post that Never Ends... Or does it?

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, I've been quite busy and will on,ly be getting more busy. I do have much to share though so strap yourself in for a long read.

First up, I want to tell you about Dragonball Kai. This anime is an HD re-release of Dragonball Z, celebrating it's 20th anniversary, but that's only the beginning. There are also new sound effects, some new dialogue voiced by the original cast, as well as new opening and ending sequences. Oh, and they are more closely following the manga and have cut all of the filler that was created for the show due to it being aired while the manga was still being released. I suggest you watch it if you are a fan of Dragonball Z. Watch here.

I've gotten back into playing on Byond and boy, has it changed quite a lot. It's not nearly as uniformly set out as it used to be. The coding system appears to be more advanced ergo the experience of the game play has improved. If you didn't know Byond is a free site that utilizes a free program to host user-created games. Many of these games are multi-player, allowing you to interact with others. Although this isn't necessarily a good thing because there are a lot of ass holes who play these games and they are more than happy to harass you. But that doesn't apply to all games. There are also some single player games that can be very fun depending on your interests. All of the games use a 2D format thus it is quite reminiscent of the old NES, SNES and Genesis consoles. Many of the more popular games are based on anime such as Bleach, Naruto and Dragon Ball /Z/GT as well as many devoted to Final Fantasy. There are even some Text-based games that are like an online Dungeons & Dragons experience (table-top D&D that is). I suggest trying it if you are into that sort of thing. Now to review some movies. Last week I had the opportunity to rent Coraline. Of course, I loved every minute of it. That sort of weird animation just really appeals to me. I'm sure most of you have seen it so I won't go into the plot. I give it a 9/10. Along with Coraline I rented this movie called Undead. It's a zombie movie that is quite over the top. It takes place in England or Australia, I'm not sure which because they all speak like the Brits and play cricket, but at one point there was the Australian national flag so that confused the hell out of me. I'm not even sure if they play cricket in Australia. Anyways the movie was okay for a b-movie, the effects were decent, the make-up was pretty good and I even got a few laughs out of it. The best part of it has to be the farmer-looking fisherman/gun salesman who uses 3 shotguns linked together. Pretty fucking sweet. This movie gets a 6/10.

I have also been reading through more of the manga I have listed on the right and am getting much closer to being caught up with Zombie Loan. It turns out that Zombie Loan is made by the same two women who are working on Shugo Chara (have I mentioned this before? If I have I'm saying it again), which explains the similar comedy. As soon as I am fully caught up with that I'll start taking a swing at reading Naruto again. If only I had an extension on my lifespan. That's all for today!

You Dirty, Dirty Basterds

I had the pleasure of seeing Quentin Tarantino's latest film Inglourious Basterds today. I must say it was absolutely fantastic. I'm a fan of all of Tarantino's films but this one is his best, even better than Pulp Fiction (yes I said it). Brad Pitt is fantastic in this movie as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, leader of the Inglourious Basterds, a group of American Jews. This movie has rekindled my old love for the gruesome death of nazis, especially in the scene with Hitler, you know the one at the end. I highly recommend this film to anybody who can stomach the violence. It has a fantastic cast and story and is well worth the money you spend to see it. Hell I want to see it again. I give those Basterds a well earned 10/10.
