IXChariot Used to Perform 3G Performance Testing on AT&T Network

Based on Mark Sullivan of PC World (2009), AT&T performed 3G Performance Test benchmark test by choosing 13 major cities. In each city testing criterias were used based on population density, physical terrain, social-economic status, building construction and foliage. Also 20 testing location where selected to create a grid formation starting at the center of each city. At each testing location a network stress test was performed using laptops and smart phones.

For the laptop testing, IxChariot was used to test speed and network reliability. In order to measure download speed, IxChariot requested a number of large, uncompressible files from a dedicated server in the network; it then measures the speed of each transfer during a 1-minute period. To measure upload speed, Chariot sends a number of files from the Chariot client on the laptop to the server on the network, again timing each transfer during a 1-minute period. The result of this test consisted of the average of all of these transfers at each location. Then an average of all tested locations were taken to obtain an average city performance.

For the Smartphone tests to be approximate to the real-world connection between specific smartphones and specific networks. Tests were performed from the same locations that was used for the laptop tests by applying an Internet-based performance test designed by Xtreme Labs (http://www.xtremelabs.com/) This script sends a large test file back and forth between the smartphone and a network server, IxChariot will then measure the speeds at which the data is transferred. Three upload tests and three download tests were performed at each testing location and the average was taken into account.

Agilent N9360A One Box Mobile Tester

Today Agilent Technologies(NASDAQ: A) released that they will discontinue the N9360A one-box tester. The so called Shopboy was Agilent Technologies low cost mobile performance test set. All associated products and options will be discontinued as well., including the GS-8120 wireless system and the N9360A shielded test chamber. No new quotes will be issued after 1 May 2010, and the last order date for these products is 31 July, 2010.

For existing customers the support life for hardware end on July 31st, 2013 and the support life for software end on July 31st, 2011. There will be no direct low cost replacement from Agilent on this for this product.

Currently the E5515C which supports all 2G and 3G phone, will be the only replacement that Q-wire Technologies has to offer to its customers in the region.

Agilent Technologies recently introduced a new test option for its Drive Test Solution. This new option allows the engineer to measure the quality of voice conversation over packet switched network using R- factor MOS which is defined by ITU-T Recommendation G.107.

In combination with other E6474A capabilities, the user will view the geo- location of bad voice quality areas with the analysis of the physical layer parameters.
