Q Develops Name and Brand Identity for New Venture Annuix tag:qltd.com,2012:index.php/2.644 2012-07-18T23:24:20Z 2012-07-18T15:29:22Z Paul Koch paul@qltd.com Design firm Q LTD recently developed the name, brand identity, and marketing materials for Annuix, a new company that markets annuities and life insurance products to insurance agents and financial advisors.

The new venture was launched by Robert Burskey, an industry veteran who re-entered the annuity and life market after building one of the nation’s largest independent insurance marketing organizations and selling the business in 2006.

Q’s approach to the strategic design project began with a branding workshop, which helped shape the name, identity, and ad campaign for Burskey’s new company.

“Our objective was to help our client and his management team launch the company with branding that reflects the organization’s experience, personality, and innovative thinking behind the products they offer,” says Paul Koch, Creative Strategist at Q.

Part of the marketing strategy also involved working with the Annuix management team to uniquely position the company in a market of well-established competitors by differentiating not only its product line but also its brand launch and advertising campaign. “The Annuix visual identity system is bold and modern. We avoided the tired clichés usually seen in insurance marketing and created a fresh, exciting brand image that stands out in this industry,” explains Christine Golus, VP and Creative Director.

Q Designs and Develops Unique Site for Michigan’s Poets tag:qltd.com,2012:index.php/2.633 2012-04-19T20:16:51Z 2012-04-19T12:18:52Z Paul Koch paul@qltd.com Design firm Q LTD recently launched a new web site for One Pause Poetry, an organization working to help spread the word, sound, and experience of poetry throughout Michigan and beyond.

Working with One Pause Poetry’s Sarah Messer, Q LTD’s objective was to design and build a dynamic and flexible web site that will become an online resource for a community of professional poets, writers, and artists.

One Pause Poetry is a place to experience poetry the way the authors intended, through extensive audio and video clips of readings by some of Michigan’s most notable and award-winning poets.

From a creative perspective, the One Pause site was designed to provide a space for visitors to immerse themselves in the audible experience of poetry, explains Jocelyn Edin, art director at Q LTD. “This was achieved through a minimalist, Zen-inspired design which reinforces the organization's name and mission, focusing the user on the content, specifically the poetry readings.” says Edin.

Q LTD’s interactive team developed the site within a web-based, open-source content management system to give the One Pause Poetry team members easier access to the site in order to make updates and add content.

The new One Pause Poetry site will help to increase attendance at local poetry events and raise awareness nationally. The site’s unique features include an ever-expanding media-rich library of poets and poetry, an interactive map of upcoming poetry events in the region, and a collection of readings from the organization’s national MP3 Project.

One Pause Poetry is a non-profit organization supported by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs, the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, private donors, local businesses, interns, and more than 40 volunteers.

With a successful ten-year history and an eye toward the future, applEcon chose to partner with Q LTD in an extensive re-branding and strategic research project that provided the foundation for the development of a new identity, web site, corporate brochure, e-newsletter, and marketing and recruiting materials.

Design Firm Q LTD Selected by BMW to Support Launch of New X3 tag:qltd.com,2011:index.php/2.554 2011-04-29T22:05:50Z 2011-09-12T16:32:51Z Paul Koch paul@qltd.com Creative design firm and brand consultancy Q LTD was selected by BMW of North America to support the dealer launch of the all-new 2011 BMW X3.

Q Creative Director Todd Szymanski led the project from Q LTD’s San Francisco office, working in partnership with two promotional event firms, combining the skills and expertise of each organization.

The project proposal and winning design was presented by Q LTD along with Tencue, an event production company based in Berkeley, and Event Alchemy, an event logistics company based in Lafayette. The team flew to BMW headquarters in New Jersey to present their proposal in person.

Earning the project was no small feat for Q LTD and its teammates at Tencue and Event Alchemy, explained Szymanski of Q. “We were up against the incumbent on the account, so we were seen as the underdogs, but the freshness, completeness, and overall presentation awarded our team the job,” Szymanski said.

Upon award, Q LTD was asked to create event materials, which included core elements of the concepts originally presented to BMW. Working with BMW’s event management team and Event Alchemy, Q LTD designed and produced a suite of dealer launch materials for the new X3, such as event invitations, programs, promotional pieces, environmental design, and onsite event posters.

Q LTD is proud to add BMW to the firm’s long list of international clients.

Q LTD’s rebranding mission included a redesign of the School of Nursing’s identity, a brand guidebook, and a series of marketing materials for prospective nursing students at the undergraduate, master’s, and PhD levels.

Today’s nursing field calls for students with the right balance of academic skills and a sense of compassion, and the U-M School of Nursing’s objective is to recruit highly qualified candidates who fit these criteria and show leadership potential as well.

“The University of Michigan School of Nursing is a nationally recognized institution and respected leader in nursing education, research, practice innovation, and health policy, and it was time we elevated our brand image and several components of our communications efforts to reflect that,” explains U-M’s Ann Luke, Assistant to the Dean.

The project began several months ago with research and focus groups which helped shape the creative process, brand strategy, and marketing materials.

“A branding project of this scope allows Q to draw on the firm’s full range of capabilities, including conducting research through interviews with faculty and students. Leadership at the School of Nursing saw the value in having a deeper level of insight right from the beginning,” says Paul Koch, Creative Strategist at Q.

The new School of Nursing identity and student recruitment brochures were developed by Q’s team of creative directors, designers, strategists, and writers in Ann Arbor, working with members of the U-M School of Nursing communications department.

The custom vehicle wrap was applied to a Chevy HHR, which made its debut at a recent event unveiling Bosch’s latest advanced controls technology for improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, and decreased development time and costs of flex fuel vehicles. The event was attended by Bosch’s engineering team and global leadership, and Department of Energy officials.

Bosch selected the Q creative team for their ability to design a custom vehicle wrap that would help generate awareness and interest in the Bosch corporation and its ability to deliver automotive system solutions.

“As branding consultants, we understand that, for Bosch, this is more than just a vehicle wrap. The finished promotional vehicle becomes an image piece – it’s another element within Bosch’s corporate identity and therefore was developed to reflect and support the Bosch brand,” said Paul Koch, Creative Strategist at Q.

Ypsilanti District Library Launches New Web Site tag:qltd.com,2010:index.php/2.472 2010-09-21T19:08:31Z 2010-11-08T16:09:32Z Paul Koch paul@qltd.com Ypsilanti District Library patrons and their families have a new resource available for books, music, information, and sharing – an online virtual branch they can access from the comfort of home.

The recently launched, custom web site was developed with the Ypsilanti community in mind by Ann Arbor-based design firm Q LTD, along with members of the library staff.

“This community has been very supportive of the library over the years, and it was time we had a web site that is on par with the rest of the library system,” said Mary Garboden, Outreach Services Department Head for the Ypsilanti District Library.

The library staff and the team at Q LTD began the new web site project by conducting research to gain insight on how patrons use the library and online resources. “The new web site includes many features and sections designed for the way visitors search for information – and what type of information they want from their library,” said Jill Morey, Library Director.

For the community of Ypsilanti residents who share a love for books, reading, and music, one of the most notable features of the new web site is a section of staff recommendations where visitors can learn about new releases and enjoy book reviews. Library members can even sign up to receive email notifications of upcoming author presentations, events, and classes of interest.

The Q interactive team built the site with Drupal, an open source content management system, to empower library staff to more easily create and manage content.

“We’re very pleased with the results,” said Ben Schaaf, Senior Interactive Producer at Q. “Our goal was to design a site that captures the modern, vibrant, and inviting atmosphere of the main library, while including extensive content and regular updates so the site is always fresh and current. And I think together we’ve achieved that.”

Q LTD Design Director Jeffery Callender Makes His Mark In New “Search Patterns” Book tag:qltd.com,2010:index.php/2.430 2010-06-14T09:39:14Z 2010-06-14T02:03:15Z Paul Koch paul@qltd.com Strategic design firm Q LTD celebrates vice president and design director Jeffery Callender’s role as illustrator and creative collaborator for the new, much anticipated book Search Patterns: Design for Discovery.

Callender is a respected design director with more than 25 years of experience creating visual designs, brand identities, user interfaces, and marketing communications for Q’s extensive list of clients. So it was a natural fit when he was invited to partner as illustrator and creative collaborator with Q colleague and web authority Peter Morville on his third book, Search Patterns.

Published by O’Reilly Media, Search Patterns is the follow-up to Morville’s earlier book, Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, which established him as a founder of the field of information architecture.

“I called on Jeff because I knew he could help bring the concept of search to life through his creative approach to illustration and strategic design,” explained Morville.

Search Patterns is a provocative and inspiring exploration of design patterns that apply across the categories of web, e-commerce, desktop, mobile, social, and real-time search. Using colorful illustrations and examples, Callender helps guide readers through a journey into the web, exploring how consumers think, search, and discover every day.

Search is an important concept today – it shapes how we navigate and find information, and influences how we think and what we buy. That’s what makes Search Patterns essential reading for web developers, designers, engineers, and business leaders, or anyone who aspires to make search a more effective and rewarding experience.
