A bowling ball is a round ball made from urethane, plastic, reactive resin or a combination of these materials which is used in the sport of bowling. Ten-pin bowling balls generally have a set of three holes drilled in them, one each for the ring and middle finger, and one for the thumb; however, rules allow for up to five finger holes. A five-pin bowling ball has no finger holes and is smaller so that the bowler can hold the ball in the palm of his or her hand. Candlepin bowling balls also fit in the hand, but are lighter than five-pin balls. There are also six- to 16-pound bowling balls. The max limit allowed in tournament games or league games is 16, but balls of up to 20 pounds are available.

Most bowling alleys provide free balls for patrons to use, called house balls, although bowlers may purchase their own. These are often customized, and can feature specially sized finger holes (in the case of ten-pin balls) or monograms. Because purchased balls are usually drilled to match the owner's fingers, most can throw a customized bowling ball that is one to two pounds heavier than the house ball they previously used.

Bowling balls come in many varieties of colors, and are often either a single flat color, a swirl-like design of multiple colors, gray or a single color with an iridescent look. It is even possible to obtain transparent bowling balls, painted in such a way as to make it appear as though an object is inside. Some objects have included skulls, footballs, and baseballs.

Blue Tusk is enough

I was staying around the corner at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel and I needed something to eat. They recommended I go to the Empire Pub but it was closed for training. I walked across the street and entered the Blue Tusk...WOW! This is a great Pub!

I had the artisan meat and cheese tray. A wonderful selection of 2 meats and three cheeses on baguettes. You choose the meats an cheeses. I went with the sopressata, prosciutto, sharp cheddar, brie, and goat cheese. It was a huge platter and they looked at me funny when I ordered it but I hadn't eaten all day and I was hungry.

They also had a plethora of international beers. I added to my dinner by ordering a wonderful Belgian Duvel Green ale. I was so full! The pub was full the entire time I was there with lots of wonderful tales from the bar and culinary talk with the chefs! It was a wonderful meal in a extremely friendly environment! This will not be my last visit to the Blue Tusk!

Antwon Bailey ready to take reigns of SU legacy

Bailey is, after all, replacing Delone Carter, who ran for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons as Marrone's "feature" back and for more than 3,000 overall in his SU career. So despite being size-challenged, Antwon will need to be a horse if Syracuse is to match last year’s fairly surprising 8-5 record.

(Note: As the Orange earned four of its eight wins by a total of 14 points . . . as it played against Akron, Maine and Colgate and in a diminished Big East Conference . . . and as it benefitted greatly from an asinine call by the officials in its Pinstripe Bowl victory over Kansas State, the SU athletes could discover that 2011 may provide tougher sledding than 2010. Just saying.)

Anyway, as for Bailey, it was nice to see, following Saturday's 13-7 win by the White over the Blue (for whatever that may have meant), that he appears undaunted as he gazes toward September and the start of his final campaign lugging the ball for his school.

“I’ve always been a physical player,” Antwon said after rushing for 118 yards on 20 carries, sometimes looking like a mini Earl Campbell as he sought out potential tacklers and then rammed them. “People see the smaller stature and think otherwise, but even going back to Little League games, I’ve always been a physical guy. I’ll be ready. I’ll be up to the challenge.

“Our running backs have to be attackers. We’re not one of those teams that’s going to go out there and spread out. We’re a smash-mouth, two-back, nasty-offensive-linemen kind of team. That’s the way we’ve got to play.”

The truth of the matter is that the Orange, still nowhere near where it hopes to some day be in terms of quality depth, needs above all else to remain healthy (hence, Marrone’s concern on Saturday). There are some pretty decent players among this bunch, sure; there’s just not enough of them to weather anything resembling a rash of injuries.

And Bailey? The young man absolutely must remain upright (and productive). He has gained 1,093 yards in 214 carries thus far in his three-year Syracuse career, which is nice. But he may need to do all of that in this one campaign alone for the Orange to advance the needle on those 8-5 numbers of last season.

And this, Antwon seemed to understand on Saturday.

An Ode to Dinosaur BBQ

The smokey odor that fills my nose
As I walk in to satisfy my hunger
A delicious aroma, better than a rose
Every bite I take makes me feel younger
Those crazy bikers that sit outside
Do make me feel a little anxious inside
But they're cool people too who just want grub
Because Dinosaur BBQ takes your taste buds on a ride
And puts a smile on your face that you just cannot hide
In the end, we're all just people who want some love

This is how much I loved Dinosaur BBQ. Must I say more? I wrote a freaking ode to about this place.

If you don't know what to order, remember Tres Hombres, you cannot go wrong.

Test 1

The lot occupied by the Downtown Farmers Market in Syracuse -- at Washington and Clinton streets -- has been undergoing a green makeover for the past few weeks.
The $179,300 project includes a new drainage system that will allow storm water to seep into the ground instead of pouring into the storm sewers. The work will also add trees and landscaping.

The work is supposed to be complete by Saturday, said Chuck McFadden, who coordinates the market for The Downtown Committee. If it's not complete by the first market day -- Tuesday -- the market will temporarily move a few blocks away, to Clinton and Water streets, near Clinton Square.

This evening will be one of the best as the sunset will linger over the horizon in Central New York. Fitting into the fruit-figure category may be common, but fitting into
trendy styles needn't be a challenge, especially with these handy style
tips from Charla Krupp, author of "How to Never Look Fat Again," and Sam Saboura, fashion guru and "My Body, My Style" host.

"The situation with the pear shape is that you want the party and all the activity on the upper part of your body," Krupp tells StyleList.
"You want all the color, the jazz, the fun fabric and the pattern on
top," to draw the eye upward, while toning down the bottom half.
