Wow– hey guys! Sue and I made an attempt at podcasting again. We talked about how we’ve been keeping ourselves busy these days especially in the world of streaming. I have no idea what I’m doing anymore and it’s been a small miracle that I’ve gotten this podcast to this point. It’s amazing what being away from something for 2 + years can do! Oh and It’s amazing what that time can do to a cheap mic- I had no idea my audio would sound so bad, if I had I would have waited until I’d ordered a new headset (which I literally did in the first 10 minute of editing this podcast, so the next one will sound better- I promise! Now for our recap. Em and Sue look back on this episode and try not to panic about all the stuff that somehow needs to be in the finale. Trust the writers has been a pretty good, fail safe mantra so far, so that is exactly what we are going to do. We talk a lot about our theories and we also do a fair bit of theorizing about the final episode that is now just DAYS AWAY!!

Does Dylemma find a way to go on? Does Romero get his revenge? Does Mother let Norman come out to play ever again, or is that apple pie going to burn in that oven? Does that ring get back on Norma’s cold, dead, hand or does Romero run off to that cabin with Maggie? (haha! just had to throw that one in, even if the thought makes me a little queasy.) Speaking of queasy– Norman went a whole episode without throwing up! Good on you, Norman!

Here we are at the end of the series (not quite but close enough!) and things are definitely coming to a head. We are confused by the title though…THE Body doesn’t seem to be descriptive enough. Bodies is more like, but this episode or the lake didn’t seem to have enough bodies in it for Sue and Em. There’s a body in the basement now, and one used to be in there that is now lying in amongst the pines. WHO IS THE BODY?? Chick’s racoon?

We recap this week and try to come up with scenarios that possibly could be where the show goes from here. We came up with a few good ones, but we know we are wrong, cause this show has made it abundantly clear that it is smarter than us. But Emily is crossing her fingers for Grandpa Romero anyway.
In the actual show, Dylan came to visit, Madeline is hunting for lost husbands (three words Maddie: shower curtain burrito), and Norma was buried like Snow White and Head Norma got stabby and Norman got confessy. Oh and Dylan got Gilesed. In other words, it was a great time.

It’s feedback time! The action at the hotel this week slowed down a little, but don’t get too comfortable, the yellow crime scene tape should be pretty easy to dodge. The B & B heard a lot of commotion in the main room and kitchen, but that didn’t wreck game night in the least. You may have noticed a familiar face this week you haven’t seen for some time- Dylan is back! His towels are a little softer and fluffier than Chicks, but they lacked his signature spring of thyme folded into it. We know Norma’s were the best, but she is still missing, we are sure Norman is right- she is just “at the store”. Hang in there, and once again- sorry for Norman’s towels, we know they come back still damp and dirty. He keeps insisting they have been cleaned. We are at a loss.

We managed to fit it all into one episode this week (although you’d never know it given the time it took us to record yesterday). But that’s our business.
This episode felt very much like we are on the precipice of mayhem, shenanigans and stabby stabby good times had by all, and we couldn’t be more excited. We have a few things to say to the writer or this ep though (the dialogue could have used a little tweaking) and that’s the worst thing we have had to say about the show in quite a while (and it’s really not that bad) still a great way to spend an hour.

It’s week 2 and Em and Sue are having a great time discussing this season with all it’s intricacies. There is so much to pull apart and we find ourselves interpreting many things differently, so hopefully that makes for an interesting discussion and no- Sue isn’t psychic– in the second half of this discussion we had a new audio trama, Em was on some sort of delay so Sue seemed to anticipate the ends of her sentences and we talk over each other more than usual (even if we didn’t actually). Mose is creative in his meddling- I’ll give him that. Next week, I should have that ironed out- SORRY AGAIN! But all is right with the world anyway, because Norma is suddenly French and it’s fantastic! Also, Em got served up some humble pie, rethinking how ready she is to experience the horrors of this season, no matter how excited she thought she was to experience it and Sue found a new bar for how much she could adore Chick. (And I thought she hated people eating apples!– I guess Chick is the exception.)

In this ep of the podcast, we go in depth in our discussion of the episode, going through it scene by scene. In this ep of the show, we catch up with the Bates and friends, about 18 months after the death of mother- whether they know about it or not. Norman and Norma live in a idyllic world, that turns slightly troubling when Norman meets a girl and finds a wallet. But don’t worry- Norman has “the shusher” aka Norma in his head that makes things better. Dylan and Emma are living a practically perfect life in Seattle until a creature from their past shows up.

Sue and Em had the opportunity to see the film 78/52 at the Sundance Film Festival this year, and we took that opportunity since it was all about the film Psycho, more specifically though– the infamous shower scene. Yes Please! So we give our impressions and tell you about it. Then we discuss the big, exciting trailer for Season 5 of Bates Motel!

Unfortunately, we suffered audio problems through most of it, but the biggest problems happen during the trailer talk. So I had to cut out parts of it, which made our thoughts sound even more scattered than usual. Sue is pretty hard to hear through the problems and we really apologize! I spent a huge portion of today reworking my laptop and downloading a fancy schmancy audio recorder to gear up for next week– so wish us luck! We want to sound crystal clear for season 5! How glad we are to be back to White Pine Bay (even if there are a few more bodies in it). Things have gotten off to a cracking start- Norman is spending much of his time either talking to mother or being her, Norma is scheming half baked schemes and Romero is having none of it, Emma is getting new lungs, and we see the seedier side of what Oregon has to offer in the way of mental health. Oh- and Emma’s mom thought sneaking in to meet Norman would be a good idea (spoiler alert: it wasn’t). Listen to Norma next time when she tells you to stay away from her son!

On the podcast, we are able to reacquaint ourselves with many of our hotel and B and B guests by reading their comment cards, and the seedier “Normero Inn” gets it’s first occupant. But you will have to wait until the end to hear our vocal comment card from Matt A and his bossy, interrupting, robot girlfriend who is always trying to tell him where to turn. We also recap the episode in the only way we know how over here at Yes Mother- with laughs and discussion and theories.

We explored their relationship scene by scene, starting with that high stress first meeting where Sheriff Alex Romero is suspiciously suspicious of Norma (like she is hiding a dead body right under his nose or something) to that scene in front of the hotel when she is stoic and vulnerable and he is unapologetic and frustrated and willing to do anything for that hot mess Norma Bates whom we all love so much.

We reminisce and remember the good and bad times these two have had before they inevitably change, we rate some scenes according to chemistry, and have an all around grand time, as we do.

In continuing our tradition of watching the Psycho sequels during the Bates Motel hiatus, we came across this little gem. This is the final and some might say most spectacular of the Psycho sequels. It also is perhaps the most relevant, since it is actually Psycho IV: The Beginning, meaning it tries to tell the backstory of Norma and Norman. Did they do a good job? No. Did they make an entertaining movie? YES!! Did the word “relevant” stick in my throat just then? You betcha.

We had a ball recording this podcast- this movie was such a What the Bipper- you just have to watch it. Or listen to this podcast- we paint a pretty good picture I think. It’s like you don’t even need to watch it now. Except you do– trust us. You do. Just erase everything you saw and heard after watching and thank Carlton Cuse and Keri Ehrin for creating Bates Motel.

This week brought us another fantastic episode, after a run of fantastic episodes this season! This week delivered it all: awesomely quotable Norma lines, Dylemma fans swooned as Dylan and Emma had stars in their eyes (where’s Norman?……Who??). Speaking of that attractive and masculine twit: Norman had some of his creepiest, most fantastic moments to date, and he absolutely does not want to sleep with his mother. Nope- he’s never even thought of such a thing #mamabooty. There was also a little something for the Normero shippers (Rates) oh boy- if you weren’t on that ship before, you are now. By the way- HOW COME NO ONE TOLD ME ABOUT THE ADORABLENESS THAT IS DRUNK ROMERO?? I could have met him before season 3. So much wasted time. We are so glad that the series will now just consist of nice, family dinners where everyone gets along and there is nothing but laughter and conversation…0_o #shhhhhh

Well, episode 3 aired this week and it didn’t disappoint (well, it disappointed Sue a little since Chick was absent). Other than that- we had some great stuff: Norma in a morgue, capers with pot plants, hulkified bed lifting and a few plot twists we didn’t see coming. Not to mention Norman’s head mama made an appearance. Join Em and Sue as we (hurriedly) try to make sense of the season so far.

Just so you all know: this is the podcast that almost never was. Emily is putting on a gigantic function this week (almost over- tomorrow night!) so she had very limited time- but who could brush off Bates Motel and this podcast?, THEN the recording mysteriously stopped 30 minutes in- but no fear Sue hopefully recorded a back up. Yep she did, but her computer won’t let the file open. Sue pulled off a miracle while Em was too busy to help her or answer her questions and got it and sent it over. Anyway- here it is… I’m happy to be able to present it to you this week albeit a little late. (It would have been later -like sunday- but I sprained my ankle today and got out of a mid day appointment and viola! Editing time! Now that you know our life story– enjoy the podcast :).

Part I? Yes- we found so much to talk about on this gem of a finale, we kind of kept going for 2 podcasts worth. We forwent What We’ve Been Watching though, to make up for it. In this finale, we get Norman rescued, see a couple deaths we have all been hoping for, watch Romero be Batman, see Emma get some answers (and then promptly want to put those answers right back where they were), and Norma face some very tough decisions- but at least she wasn’t alone to do that (and big no- we don’t mean George). Norman needs to pass a seemingly impossible lie detector test…. But we don’t get to most of that here. In this first part of the podcast, Sue and Em discuss feedback and everything up to and including Norman’s (that’s the ship name Norman’s) “last” dance. We also pretty much swoon and go all girlie on all the touching moments the show provided, then we discuss Buffy podcasts for a while. Join us!

Guess what guests? I was able to fit What We’ve Been Watching on here too! Sue and I must have behaved ourselves this week.

But meanwhile in the episode, Dylan starts a downward spiral after receiving the most shocking news of his life successfully turning it upside down. Norma pretty much just suffers major mom guilt and is forced to go on a date with George and deal with filterless jerkwads (well, just one). Norman goes on his own little journey…and I use the term “own” loosely. Meanwhile, Emma has her own problems which seem to turn into no problem.

Then, you can listen to Em and Sue discuss their watches of the week. Did Emily flip for The Avengers? Did Sue veer out of PBS territory? Find out by listening to the podcast, you can even earn yourself a room at our motel, the accommodations are nice, and in our Bates Motel, hardly anyone ever gets knifed in the shower. Peepholes and noise tend to be a problem though.

Hello Guests! Check in time is now. Bates Motel is back, and boy what a great way to start! The show starts very close to how we ended it- with a cut up Norman and a cut up Miss Watson. The Bates say good bye to her at her funeral, then we say good bye to the Bradley we used to know. Quickly we jump 4 months ahead to a much happier time when sun dresses and pop country are welcome (except pop country is never welcome in Emily’s house). Norma seems on top of the world- but that lasts about 2 seconds until she finds Norman skinning sophisticated animals, the bypass is a go, Bradly is now dark and broody and gun happy, Norman is obsessed with his dead teacher, Dylan’s rent money is tainted, and Sheriff Romero gets sneaky on the sidewalk. Norma is finished with this town and wants to move but gets bad news from her real estate agent. Norman dreams he is drowning Bradley. Emma eats a cupcake given to her by one of the trimmers and gets stoned and Dylan sneaks Bradley into her dad’s old office so she can get his gold watch, instead she finds something else. Maybe it was because Phillip Seymour Hoffman died a few days before, maybe it was because Sue had just finished Dexter Season 6 AND Sherlock Season 3 had ended that week…or maybe it is because Em and Sue just can’t stop talking to each other about TV and film. Whatever the reason, we had a What We’ve Been Watching segment that was on steroids and it made for a remarkably long podcast that week, so we decided to release it on it’s own so as not to overwhelm you all. Yep, that dog is stuffed.

In episode 8 of Bates Motel titled A Boy and his Dog, Norman learns taxidermy from Emma’s Dad, Will. Norma asks Sheriff Romero for a favor and gets shut down. Bradley confronts Norman about telling people they slept together, Norman gets upset and leaves school. The principal and Miss Watson tell Norma they would like Norman to visit a therapist. After a couple strange encounters with Abernathe, Norma decides to follow him and he confronts her about taking something from him and Norma kicks him out of room #9. Dylan and Remo go on a road trip and bond over a bar fight. And Deputy Shelby makes his final appearance. Join Em and Sue as they recap this latest episode of Bates Motel.

Where is the What We’ve Been Watching Segment? You may ask…I made a decision to release it as it’s own thing to cut time down. Look for it… it’s on it’s close behind.

Also– the last two podcast episodes of the season have been recorded and I’m going to do some mad editing to get them all out quickly so we can have them all out before Bates Motel Season 2 starts on March 3rd (and still have time to record and release one more episode after watching the movie Psycho). So, expect to be bombarded over the next week or so while Yes Mother seems to take over Quadruple Z.
