The Future Music Festival Asia 2012. The BIGGEST music festival South East Asians has ever seen will be in Kuala Lumpur on 17th of March 2012 (On a Saturday!) What is Future Music Festival? It's a one-of-a-kind music festival, which is specially designed to cater to Asian fans.

As for the Local acts, there will be Kyoto Protocol, Goldfish + Blink, Twilight Actiongirl, They Will Kill Us All, Mini Compo, Enterprise, Oh! Chentaku, Bud Culture, Terence C, Victor G, Fono, Bass Agents and Phil K Lee + Ian Ross.

To replicate the same atmosphere and set up of Future Music Festival in Australia, there will be four stages to entertain the thousands of patrons expected to attend the party. Malaysia, being the first ever Future Music Festival venue outside of Australia will hopefully see the attendance of neighbouring countries around the region.

So last week I was given a Bcard last week.And what did I do? Go shopping of course.

Had a fairly fun time at the Hennessy launch party last week. Seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. And forgetting the names of some. Is there a surefire way to remember someone's name? I mean I recognize the faces and such but the name part.....are a pain, especially chinese names.

The 'secret' location of the event turned out to be Vertigo @ The Gardens Mall. Which should be fairly obvious as quoted by Kate.

The night was fun with free-flow VSOP and friends, but my only gripe was that the venue couldn't hold all the crowd, could barely move during the highpoint of the event.

Relationship Status (2012) Movie Review

Had the chance to catch this Local Indie(Independent) film thanks to @omegaoracle/Calvin for the last minute tickets.

Sypnosis : Those familiar with ‘Ciplak’ will know Khairil M Bahar – the renowned filmmaker who now has a new film called ‘Relationship Status’ featuring the story of a number of KL-ites from all walks of life whose relationships are created, changed and ruined by social networking. Featuring Tony Eusoff, Pete Teo, Daphne Iking and more big Malaysian names.

My take : Went into the cinema not knowing what it the movie was about or knew it existed. The movie started without much introduction on the characters involved, but as it progressed the character's past and present unveiled itself one by one in an interesting matter, and how each character's action affects another directly or indirectly. I find it interesting how each and every character is somehow connected to each other.

Kudos to whoever that wrote the script/dialogue as it was brilliant especially during the banter between the two housemates on the whole social media outlet, the fluency of the lines when delivered was also commendable(Either that or the local movies that's being cranked out by other directors lowered the par so much that anything averagely higher would be considered a feat)

One peeve about the movie was the camera works. Which at certain part of the movie were panning back and forth needlessly among the characters while they were conversing. And sitting in the front row certainly wasn't helping.

In short "Relationship Status" shows the stack reality of the impact of social media on everyone's life.

Rating : 3.5/5 a really good effort by Khairil M Bahar, be sure to catch it if possible due to the limited screenings. The ending monologue was insightful and somewhat inspiring.

Mystical Eve 2012 New Year Eve Celebration @ Encorp Strand

Spent the eves of the new year at Red Carpet Avenue @ Encorp Strand Kota Damansara. Which is located just behind Sunway Giza. A fairly new area I should mention. :

Arrived around 8'ish and proceeded for dinner before going for the event.

The garlic fried Siew Yuk was good, though not as good as the one at Fatty Chicken Pudu.

So about the Mystical Eve Event, there was a number of performances by Local Artistes such as Dennis Lau, Joe Flizzon, Mizz Nina, Pop Shuvit to name a few but the one that stood out was the Laser Man performance. Which blew everyone's mind. Take a look at the video I took. (Available in Full HD and Cloverfield level production)

And not forgetting the main attraction of the event. The 3D projection mapping and Fireworks countdown!

It was a nice way of spending the new years eve (not overly crowded with waves and waves of youngsters like Sunway,Sungai Wang,Times Square etc) then again I wouldn't be found going anywhere near those places during eves. Being past the age of spraying people with white foam and running from the authorities.

Felt a bit hungry after it ended so we decided to head over to Ampang for the famous OM burger

First meal of the year. Burgers. Totally worth the 20km drive.

Arrived back home around 4am after fetching everyone home and it dawned to me that it was 2012. Another year for more milestones.

It was a low-key evening with Dragonsoft showing off it's RFID technology. Like the ones used in the last Hennessy Artistry / Johnnie Walker events. As well as Augmented Reality. Was given an RFID wristband to tag myself at the events as well as pictures taken.

The Augmented Reality technology. Very similar to QR codes but this one gives a 3D model on screen instead of Text/Links

Far East Movement Concert @ KL Live

Attended Far East Movement's Concert at KL Live last week with VIP tickets thanks to Jfook

Wasn't really a fan of FEM but after seeing them perform tonight, much respect has been given.

The concert stated that it opens at 8pm but knew better than to go in that early so decided to have some dinner first and dilly-dally before heading out to the event.(Even attended Mfest 2011 for a short while) Ended up reaching at 11pm due to crazy KL traffic.

But luckily upon reaching FEM has not gone on stage yet.

#1 Crazy DJ person with crazy antics (doing pull ups for the crowd on the top floor) but sadly the crowd's response wasn't that enthusiastic.

But when that moment finally arrived, this picture perfectly sums up the atmosphere :

Once they were on-stage, the entire place was filled with energy. And the mood of the crowd shifted immediately

Not really a fan of Pitbull but when opportunity arose I took advantage of it and manage to get myself passes to Pitbull's concert last week thanks to Leonard and Jackie

Before the concert even started there was a really heavy downpour but despite the setback it did not stop the crowd from braving on and partying.

Didn't really fancy getting wet so I went for Bubba Gump for some shrimp whilst waiting for the rain to stop.

Overall the concert was just so-so to me. It would be nicer if the concert was set in a club setting (which is where his songs best belong to lol). After the concert several Pitbull imitators was seen taking pictures with the 'fans' with no-one being the wiser. I don't blame them, anyone with a similar skin color could pull off the pitbull look with a coat and shades.

Was invited to Overtime at Pavilion last week for a freeflow beer and food session as well as to meet Timothy O'Rouke, Master Brewer of Starker. Which was an delightful experience to taste fresh beers tapped straight from the barrel.

Overall enjoyed the food and the evening and will definitely visit this establishment more often. Overtime is definitely a place to have a few drinks and catch up with your friends and colleagues afterwork or during the weekend.

Seeking Justice Movie Review

Short synopsis: Set in New Orleans, Nicholas Cage's character Will struggles to cope with a horrible decision he made after his wife(January Jones) was assaulted. In this movie, we see him journey from vulnerable citizen to triumphant hero.

Will has lost faith in the justice system, and against his better judgement he rashly agrees to the vigilante action, by muttering the trigger phrase “when the hungry rabbit jumps”. Soon Laura makes a full recovery and Will thinks all his problems are behind him.

Unfortunately the rabbit has to jump again, and this time Will is going to be the one required to take action for the shadowy group. Saying “no” is not an option, and his family are placed in danger again, leaving him to take matters into his own hands.

Highlights: This show was pretty much a thriller, quite a typical show of Nicholas Cage. One where he's the hero? But there were scenes that made me jump in my seat and cling onto the person next to me. The most thrilling part for me was when they used the phrase "a hungry rabbit jumps"

A hungry rabbit jumps is a term meaning greed.

Low-lights: The show had too many of those moments where the audience would scream out "why would you do that?".

Good for suspense if used wisely, however with this movie it was used a few too many times. One such incident would be when Will is finally winning the fight, his wife Laura suddenly screams out and a distracted Will then ends up losing the fight. Seriously? The heck?

I expected a little more in that sense. Also It tries to apply that 'inception' intelligence, but I eventually left pretty confused.

Verdict?:
IMBD rates it 7.5.
I rate it 4.5

Puma Social Soft Launch @ Cosmic Bowl Midvalley Megamall

‘PUMA® SOCIAL’ IS BACK WITH RENEWED DYNAMISM

After-hours athletes can now bowl their way to attractive prizes whilst enjoying the smell of victory and the agony of defeat

Last week I was invited to attend their soft launch over at Cosmic Bowl at Midvalley Megamall, which was attended by the media,bloggers as well as a few locally known celebrities such as Jay Menon, Suki, Dennis Lau, Phat Fabes & Ben, Jason Phang, Jeff Chin Chermaine Poo, Roshan, James Baum, Aric.

Puma Social was first launched in April this year, a campaign which brings after-hours athletes together all over the world, giving them a platform for social exchange and friendly competition all in the name of fun and camaraderie.

The event was to introduce the club event called the PUMA Social Club Nights, where after-hours athletes in Malaysia will be given the opportunity to experience PUMA's interpretation of bowling at designated spots all around the nation. The scheduled bowling events were to be held in Penang, 2 Decemver at Fuel, Autocity; Melaka, 9 December at Movida; Johor Bahru, 10 December at Hola Pub & Bistro; and finally, Klang Valley, 25 November at Ecoba, Damansara Perdana and 26 November, Movida, Sunway Giza. The grand finale will take place on 16 December 2011, also at Cosmic Bowl – the place where it all began. Details on how to join the finale party will be explained at the end of this post.

Upon arrival at Cosmic Bowl, we registered ourselves and was told that I will be playing for one of the 8 teams,each team being a personality created by Puma. Playerz, Top Shots, Picfreaks, Hot Stuff, Songbirdz, Wigglers, Bottom-uppers and Foodies. I was put into Picfreaks.

So the game was on, the top team who scores the most will win some attractive prizes. But there was some confusion on when the official scoring started but we didn't bother and just bowled on irregardless.

During the first half, we were in 2nd place and was closing in with the 1st place team.

The event ended at 11pm but we were allowed to bowl to our hearts content until 12. An awesome night it was and ended up having really sore shoulders the next day, but it was worth the pain. I also learnt how to do spin throws thanks to Samuel

Happy Feet 2 (2011) 3D Screening Review

Had the opportunity to catch Happy Feet 2 in 3D yesterday courtesy of Tony Teh

Mumble, The Master of Tap, has a problem because his tiny son, Erik, is choreo-phobic. Reluctant to dance, Erik runs away and encounters The Mighty Sven-a penguin who can fly! Mumble has no hope of competing with this charismatic new role model. But things get worse when the world is shaken by powerful forces. Erik learns of his father's "guts and grit" as Mumble brings together the penguin nations and all manner of fabulous creatures-from tiny Krill to giant Elephant Seals-to put things right. "Happy Feet Two" is directed by George Miller, who won an Oscar® as the creator of the original "Happy Feet." I did enjoy the first movie due to it's wide range of songs (Frank Sinatra's My Way,Chicago's If you Leave me Now, Beach Boy's Good Vibrations) and it's memorable characters (Ramon and The Amigos) Ramon especially with his wise-cracking lines, so does Happy Feet 2 live up to it's predecessors or is it just another attempt to cash in on the franchise before it sinks? Short answer yes but barely, long answer read on :

So this time around the movie revolves around Erik (Voiced by E.G. Daily) Mumble's son.(If you hadn't read the sypnopsis already). Who has problem expressing himself chereographicly. So after an embarassing moment he ventures off with from Emperor Land into Ramon's native land and adventure ensues.

"I'm beautiful on the outside, but inside..."

Comedy wise, there's always something to laugh at, Robbie William does not fail to deliver each line with a punch and there's even references to a few memes if you're an internet savvy hipster(or addict) as well as some cultural references/mocks. Also expect a lot of racial references via accents in the movie and see how many you can recognise/catch.

The Krills - Bill and Will

Also there's this side story in the movie about two tiny Krills (reminisence of that squirrel thing from Ice-Age) which is pointless but provides some light entertainment with their PUN heavy lines of famous quotes and slapstick humour. Played by Brad Pitt & Matt Damon, though I had trouble by recognizing which krill to which will/bill.

3D? Well there isn't much 3D effects aside from the occasional snow falling and water splashing moments which isn't nearly impressing enough to warrant watching the 3D version.

The musical scores were a hit and miss. Some were awesome while some were just 'meh'. Though watching little penguins rapping is rather entertaining and cute. Especially liked the little penguin with a british accent.

Erik or E-rik

There's also a Looney Tunes short cartoon featuring Tweety and Slvester. Which is a nostalgic treat for someone who's born in the late 80's and spends half his childhood watching cartoons on MegaTV and on public channels.

My Rating : 7/10. Go watch the non-3D version, girls will go awwwww at the littl'e penguins.

Was invited for a food review last week and despite not being too familiar with Sunway area, it didn't take me long to find the place due to it's huge signboard.

Place was packed to the brim when I arrived, which was around dinner time on a weekend. Despite the area having so many other steamboat restaurants already.

#1 They served us 4 type of soups, Tomyam, Herbal,Pepper and Fish soup. Though the fish and pepper soup got mixed together due to overflow. But in total there is 6 types of soup to choose from. Umami Chicken Soup, Thai Tomyam Soup(Red), Fish Head Soup, Thai White Tomyam Soup, HK Herbal soup and Umami Pepper Soup.

#2 All you can eat seafoods and whatnots. For only RM26.80+, definitely a steal.

#3 oysters galore

#4 fresh prawns.

#5 Crabssssss, the last to be consumed due to the complicated procedures to break its shell, which I insist needs a course to be taken just to enjoy it.

#6 BBQ Chicken, Siew Kai Yik!

#7 Deep fried chicken, my favorite item on their menu. Had like 5 or 6 of these.

I have always been a avid fan of smartphones ever since my First Dopod 838pro. Which was a beast in it's time with its 2.8" touch screen display, Slide-out QWERTY keyboard and 400 mhz Processor. But what I really missed about it is it's stylus, the convenience of penning out messages with the stroke gesture with a stylus was godsend. Which sadly came to a halt ever since capacitive displays(For example that one I-product) came into play.

But with Samsung's latest flagship phone. The Stylus is back in style! Available starting from 11th of November

Fire incident at Midvalley GSC

The Star Report:

KUALA LUMPUR: A small fire broke out at the GSC cinema in Mid Valley Megamall at about 1.20pm on Tuesday.

The thick smoke from the fire triggered the alarm system forcing scores of movie goers and staff to evacuate.

It is learnt that the fire broke out near the emergency exit of the cinema and possibly due to a short circuit.

A fire department spokesperson said they received a phone call at 1.22pm.

“When we arrived, the fire had been put out by the cinema staff using fire extinguishers," he said.

The cinema is currently closed for investigations.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2011) Movie Review

Synopsis :
A young girl sent to live with her father and his new girlfriend discovers creatures in her new home who want to claim her as one of their own.

Had high expectations of this movie in the beginning due to it's trailer but upon seeing the Miramax studio logo before the movie started, expectations were lowered. And my senses were right, it didn't live up to my expectations. Pity though, the movie had a great setup, an old spooky mansion with voices in the background, a basement with dodgy fireplace. But it just fails to deliver, the storyline didn't make much sense.The 'creatures' look vaguely like Zerglings and has the personality of (and talks like) Gollum

Near the end of the movie where the father finally believes that there are creatures living in the mansion, they decide to split up while packing up. After the event which her daughter was almost killed by said creatures. I'm suddenly reminded of Scooby Doo and the mystery gang. I suppose it's textbook horror cliche'.

Rating : 4/10
