I made a proclamation to myself that I would continue the blog no matter who read or commented on it. And I shall.

I've been sooo sick the past few days (I only worked Monday and Tuesday). I'm weak, had a fever, and hives. Ugh.

But, I'm starting to feel better now and I hope to be back at work on Monday, bright and early at 7am.

This is not how I wanted to start the year off...being sick and missing work.

A New Day (pt. 1)

As Shawna woke up on her birthday, she said to herself, “Ok Shawna…today is the day. You said you would try some new things when you turned 30, and today is the day.” So, today was going to be first day that Shawna took the bus to work, instead of driving or carpooling. It would save some money, and she could get a little reading in. And it’s not an ordinary, run of the mill bus trip…she’s taking the 210 to the 40, a very “fun” trip, especially since she works 10am-7pm. Crenshaw Blvd. to Downtown Los Angeles can be scary sometimes. Not really the morning, but at night crazy folks come out of the woodworks. Of course, she couldn’t do this too often, since she was the personal assistant for Jenisa Karl-Williams, editor at Info Magazine.
“Ok girl, here’s to new things”, Shawna said as she got on the 210 going towards Hollywood. She got on the bus by her apartment in Torrance, right by El Colorado College. “It’s not that bad, people are crazy”, she thought as she sat down and got out her Us Weekly Magazine. As soon as she got to the 2nd page, she got a call from her sister in-law, Amanda. “Happy Birthday Shawna”, Amanda sang to Shawna, who laughed. “Thanks Amanda, how are you guys doing?”
“Good, can’t wait for your party tonight. It’s still at Kenley’s house right?”
“Yep, and she called out of work just to get stuff together.”
“Why didn’t Mrs. Karl-Williams let you have the day off? Scared you might not be able to give her good ideas or something?”
“Girl, she is not that bad. She might even show up tonight at the party.”
“Why did you invite her?”
“She is cool. I really like her and I admire her. It’s not a lot of Black Editor’s for LA Magazines.”
“If she’s cool with you…Oh, I gotta go and get this food for your niece and nephew.”
Right as Shawna hung up the phone, she saw she had a text message.

A New Day (Character Introductions)

Setting: Los Angeles, CA Present Day

Characters:

SHAWNA PERRY: 30 year old single Black woman. No children. Works at Info Magazine as a Personal Assistant for the Editor, Jenisa Karl-Williams.

FISHER GORAN: 31 year old single White man. 1 child, daughter Ofelia who is 4. Works at Berryman Hospital as a Radiologist.

KENLEY HYERS: 28 year old Bi-racial (Black, White, Asian) woman. Engaged to Jackson Morris. Works as a Kindergarten teacher at Pressly Elementary School.

AMANDA PERRY: 29 year old married Black woman (married to Shawna's brother, David). 2 children, Little David who is 3 and Clea who is 1. Works at Berryman Hospital with Fisher as a Radiologist.

I got married May 31, 2008 and changed my name soon after (I have some traditionalist in me).
We moved to LA September 2008, and I LOVE our new place.
No kids yet, but hopefully this year we'll get pregnant.

Well hello everyone. Thanks for stopping by.

I haven't blogged in a loooooooooooooong time (as you can see). But, I feel it's time to start up again. This time, it won't be so much pop culture (but it will be some, because I am Quanah, and that's what makes me tick.lol).

I'm really going to try to post things at least 2 or 3 times a week, if not every day. Also, I want to start a series (from my screenplay that I wrote about 9 years ago).

Britney Spears. Wow, Britney really knows how to stay in the news! I'm actually sad for her. Obviously she's crazy as shit, and everyone knows it. She's fallen so hard, and it's really messed up. Especially since she's only 26 years old. She should still be in her prime. Oh well. Hopefully she'll get the help she needs.
Southern California's weather. It's kind of weird lately. Hot, chilly, and now it's raining like crazy. I was out this morning, and it was hailing.
Beyonce and Jay Z...are they or aren't they married? I beleive they are. Hell, it took them like 3 years to admit they were dating. It's cool if they are, because they are a good couple. I just hope they adopt...
New York and Tailor Made. I can not wait for the reunion tonight. Like I've said many, many times before, VH-1 is my crack dealer. I think I need to have an Intervention. As much as I hate to admit it, I know I will be watching Celebrity Rehab and Flavor of Love 3. Ugh...
Ice T and CoCo. I know her coochie must hurt. Her pants are always sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tight. That's not natural and sometimes kitty needs to breathe.
TV. I need some new episodes of my shows (The Game, Girlfriends, Dirty Sexy Money, Ugly Betty, and Women's Murder Club). This strike is killing me.
Music. The newest CD I have is Alicia Keys' new one. It's pretty good. It sounds really raw and gritty. I like that she doesn't sound too polished. I recommend it.
Movies. I haven't seen a movie in a while. It's some that I didn't see that I wanted to see: American Gangster, Sweeny Todd, Why Did I Get Married. I'll catch them on video/cable.
The Hills. I have never watched any of that show or Laguna Beach. I don't need to watch it to know what's going on. I have a subscription of Us Weekly, and I know everything that's going on with them...and I think Heidi and Spencer are faking. He's kind of cute, in an asshole way.
Whew...I'm done with this little list. I think I might just do this once a week. Still not sure how this format will be. I'm always open to suggestion.

Sad Personal News

A friend of mine from work killed herself on or around New Year's Eve. She was found by her dad in her room. She was only 24 or 25 years old.

Melissa Gomez was a beautiful, smart, crazy/funny, cool chick who liked decaf coffee and was a vegetarian. It's hard for me to really beleive it happened.

We love you Melissa =) Rest In Peace.

Ok, what the hell is going on with this shit? He took it back, but his brother didn't. I beleive, like damn near everyone else, that he was molested. This isn't the first time someone has said stuff like this. I think if he just comes out and admits it, it'll open the door to this horrible situation, and he could become a hero for a lot of guys who have had this happen.

As I restart my blog, I had to think about how often I would be able to post. I know it won't be every day. But, it will at least be once per week.

I work a "regular" job (M-F, 8-4), and I'm starting to go back to the gym, so I won't be able to post all the breaking news as it happens. But, I will be here to comment on the bullshit tha happens.

Personal Updates

* I got my first, and possibly only, tattoo for my birthday this year (pictured right). It's on my right ankle. It's a design I've wanted for a long time, and Jason got it for me for my birthday. It hurt like a muthafucka, but I'm so glad I got it.

*I'm still engaged, and our wedding date is Spring of 2008. I'm very excited.

*Also, we'll be moving around the time of our wedding, which is cool. We currently live in a 1 bedroom, and we'll be moving to a 2 bedroom (gotta make room for the chil'ins). So, by 2009, we'll have some little rugrats, and I can't wait. I'm damn near 30, so my clock is tick, tick, ticking.

*I've changed my major since last year. It's now Psychology. I had to start all over with math classes, so I'll be in community college until spring 2009, which sucks. But, whatever. I can't go back so I have to deal with it.

*I still love my job. I think I'm one of the few there that does.lol

*I hope my blog is entertaining and informative. If not, let me know.lol

Brandy Could Be Free

I'm happy to report that Brandy might not be at fault for the horrible car crash that resulted in a woman's death last year. (Dlisted and Media Take Out have more details on the story).

I like Brandy and I can only imagine how messed up she has felt over this whole situation. Add to that her dumb ass (although nicely built in the crouchal area.lol) brother releasing that sex tape (come now...don't be daft), she's had to smile through a lot of pain.

Of course we have to have the "who is the daddy" thing going on. I mean, come on now, Lynn and Jamie are her parents...and that means there's more than meets the eye.

I heard it's Lil Romeo's baby. Now that would be AWESOME ( and I don't even say that word). Master P and Britney Spears at the same baby shower...where do I sign up?

I just read on People that New York and Tailor Made are now engaged...after he proposed to her (again) on the reunion show. Why did they spoil it? It would have been a nice surprise to see her accept. Oh well, I'm sure there still will be much drama come January 6th. I can't wait.

I was surprised that Marques Houston's sister was amazed that something like that could have happened to her brother.

EVERYBODY HATES DIVORCE! Comedian Chris Rock has had a change of heart, and now the Rocks are gonna work it out. A few weeks ago, Chris announced he was divorcing his wife of 10 years Malaak Compton. They have two young daughters, ages 2 and 4. When the news came out, it shocked many of his fans and a lot of people thought he was losing it. Chris’s private life has always been under the radar. But, when the news came out about trouble in his marriage, the stories of him and other women started surfacing. Did you know he used to date Madonna before he got married or his affair with Video Vixen Karrine Steffans? She’s also known as Superhead, and reports have it she’s expecting a baby with Bobby Brown. She is writing a new book about her exploits, and Rock is featured prominently. Years ago, a Hungarian model tried to blame Rock for fathering her child, but the DNA tests cleared him. Who knew Rock was a player. Apparently, someone advised him it was not in his best interest to make an enemy out of his wife. After 10 years of marriage and two kids, he would have to pay through the nose to get out of the marriage. In the words of the late Singer Johnnie Taylor: It’s Cheaper to Keep Her.

Eddie Murphy speaks! Murphy is doing promotional interviews for the movie Dreamgirls. He plays the role of R&B Singer “James ‘Thunder’ Early.” I saw the movie at the preview screening last week. Eddie Murphy is the truth in this movie. He does his own singing, and for the first time, we see him display his dramatic acting skills. On a recent episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Murphy revealed that he was able to get into his troubled character because at the time of filming he was going through a very painful and public divorce with his wife Nicole. Eddie is very tight lipped about his life, and he rarely gives interviews, but on December 18th, he will be appearing on the Bravo Network on the popular show Inside The Actor’s Studio. The one on one interview show with James Lipton gives viewers an up close and personal look at their favorite actors. Despite an amazing career (Coming to America, Nutty Professor, and voice over work for Shrek), Murphy is sometimes more known for known for scandal, for example the transsexual pick up scandal of the late 90’s and his divorce from his wife of 12 years. He is also the father of six children. Murphy is amazing in Dreamgirls, and he could get an Oscar nomination for his role. As for his love life, he was dating former Spice Girl Mel B, a.k.a. Melanie Brown, but she blew it big time. Murphy’s mom Lillian often arrives in town to help her son with his kids, and Mel B started complaining. Lesson number one, if you want to become the wife, you can’t diss your man’s mother. In an act of desperation, Mel then proclaimed she was pregnant hoping he wouldn’t dump her. When Murphy realized she was lying and nothing more than a manipulative drama queen, he dropped her like a hot potato. He is currently dating the ex-wife of Babyface, Producer Tracey Edmonds.

The BET Network has put together a TV special celebrating the life of Gerald Levert. On Sunday at 12 noon, they will air their half hour special, and it features Gerald’s daughter and his many friends and former singing partners. Levert passed away last week at the age of 40. When the BET Network would air their specials, you could always count on Gerald to bring the house pain. Remember his tribute to Patti LaBelle when he got down and rolled in the floor to pay homage to her? Mark your calendars and set your recording devices. This special is a keepsake. At the time of his death Gerald, was working on two projects. A new album that is coming out next year and a book with his father Eddie Levert called I Got Your Back, about father and son relationships.

Janet Jackson is shooting down reports that she is pregnant and canceling her world tour. She says the tour will go on next year despite low record sales. Friends of Janet are concerned about her and the state of her relationship with Jermaine Dupri. They blame him for the album’s failure. She continues to talk about her sex life with Dupri. A lot of people feel she is talking way too much about her private life, and it is hurting her popularity.

Toni Braxton’s Las Vegas revue has been extended through August 2007.

When the movie musical Dreamgirls is released, you are going to witness the amazing singing talents of Jennifer Hudson. Hudson plays the role of “Effie White” made famous by Jennifer Holliday. She nails the Holliday classic And I Am Telling You. Hudson first found fame on American Idol, but she lost out to Fantasia. Simon Cowell had the nerve to tell her she didn’t have what it takes. Wait until you see Dreamgirls. Hudson is a star, and she just signed a deal with Whitney Houston’s Mentor Clive Davis. A new album is expected next year.

Grammy Award Winning Artist Kanye West continues to suffer from Foot in The Mouth disease. In an upcoming interview with Essence magazine, West states if it wasn’t for race mixing and biracial women, there would be no video girls. He then goes on to refer to biracial women as Mutts, proclaiming that he and his friends like Mutts.

There is life after The View for Star Jones, and she has found it on the TV One Network. Jones will be hosting and producing a show that will deal with issues in the African American Community. The first special is set to air in December. After striking out on deals with the major networks, Jones is turning to Cable TV to start a new career path.

Playwright/Producer David E. Talbert has tapped Actor Morris Chestnut to produce and star in his latest production Love In The Nick of Tyme. The play features the music of Singer Vivian Green, and it is coming to Philly next year.

Is Actor Darius McCrary, who is best known for his role as “Eddie Winslow” on the TV show Family Matters, infected with HIV? Spokespeople for the actor have not responded to published reports about the his condition. Fans of McCrary want him to make some sort of announcement. If he is infected, is he getting the help he needs?

In a day and age where most couples are breaking up, it’s good to know there is a couple that is still going strong. Actors Courtney Vance and Angela Bassett are the proud parents of twins (via a surrogate), and they are going to tell all about their amazing love story. The couple has a new book coming out in January called Friends: A Love Story.

Is Former Basketball Player Rick Fox dating Actress Sharon Stone. Fox, the ex-husband of Vanessa Williams, says he and Sharon share a best friend and the same agent. He states he enjoys her company, but he is still looking for someone to settle down with and have a relationship.

As Whitney Houston continues her recovery and getting her life in order, she is also clearing out old debt. In 1993, she purchased a $6 million estate in Morrison, New Jersey. She hasn’t lived in this home for years, and she currently owes $1 million in overdue mortgage payments. She will either have to pay off the mortgage, or sell the house to avoid foreclosure.

Mike Tyson, a male prostitute? The ex-boxing champ is considering taking a job as a male escort for women to make money. Tyson has fallen on hard times, and he is looking to make money any way he can. He is also trying to strike a deal for his own reality show.

How hot is Dancing with the Stars Champ Emmitt Smith? TV Execs were so impressed with his charisma and personality, they are trying to convince him to do a talk show. I love Smith’s wife Patricia. She used to be married to Martin Lawrence. She is a former beauty queen who was on hand every week to cheer on and support her husband.

The Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige team up for the song Never Gonna Break My Faith. The song, written by Rocker Bryan Adams, is featured on the soundtrack to the movie Bobby. The movie, directed by Emilio Estevez, is about the assassination of Bobby Kennedy. The movie features Demi Moore, Laurence Fishburne, Nick Cannon and Joy Bryant.

Singer Ruth Brown is being remembered for her famous singing style. The 78-year old Grammy and Tony winner died from complications of a heart attack and stroke late last week. She is best known for the hits Teardrops In My Eyes and Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean. She was a major influence for Aretha Franklin and Etta James. Brown not only paved the way for them, but it was her efforts that started the Rhythm and Blues Foundation. The foundation provides medical and financial assistance to aging R&B stars. Brown first found success in the 50’s. Then, after fading record sales, she took time to raise a family and work as a maid, schoolteacher and bus driver. In the 70’s, she enjoyed a career resurgence, and went on to win a Tony Award for the musical Black and Blue.

Eva The Diva is making a change. Eva Pigford, the former winner of America’s Next Top Model, is dropping Tyra Banks as her manager. She is also getting rid of her last name. Eva will now be known as Eva Marcille. Marcille is her middle name. Eva says with the changes, she is looking for a new start.
