We took half at 8-2 against Waterloo and was graced by the arrival of Andy, who gave the other hadlers their much needed rest. Shortly after half, Evan threw a Greatest off of Andy's 60 yard huck to the end zone which fired up the team and Mothership marched on to win quaterfinals 12-6.

There was this weird feeling that was a mixture of excitement, nervousness, and uncertainly inside me when I was warming up for the semi-finals. Mothership has not been at the semis at CUUC since 2006 and I didn't know how to react to it. The cheer before the game started was noticeably louder than all the other ones during the tourney, I can tell that everyone was ready to go.

Carleton started on zone D and our offense was shaky at first. Motherhp found itself down 2-0 before the offense regrouped and started producing points. For the rest of the game, it was just a series of back and forth between the two teams, each tweaking and adjusting strategies, hoping to gain the lead as both teams were trading points. There was alot of sweet offensive grabes and defensive bids from both sides. Mothership was down 11-12 until richie came down with a high-flying disc with two Carelton defenders on him to force the game into universe point. However, Carelton ended up winning the game and advanced to the finals against Western. After, UBC forfeited the bronze medal game due to shortage of players and Queen's ended up finished third in the Nation: Not a bad way to finish off the season.

This year's Canadian season was definitely the most enjoyable one for me, lots of close fought games and hard earned victories,

Great job ship,

Erns.

CUUC 2009 Day 2

Saturday, Oct 17.

Defeated UBC 12-6
Defeated UQAM 12-11
Defeated Ottowa 14-6

The win on UBC for the first game of Saturday boosted our confidence for the rest of the day. We were up 8-5 at half but started hucking the disc away and had a lot of trouble playing against UQAM's offense at the second half. They caught up and tied it at 9s and it was just a slugfest until the game went to universe at 11s. Richie threw the winning throw to Bomber who barely caught it with 2 defenders on him. God bless you two Bomber and Richie, God bless.
We went on to win against Ottawa and it came down to a three way tie for first place in our power pool between us, UBC, and Dalhousie. but we end up finishing first in our power pool based on the head to head win against UBC. Thursday.

note: don't actually hook up with your cousin.

gnarlz.

What Is And What Should Never Be.

Nationals: October 14th-16th, Montreal QC.

We loaded up in our vans, 3 of 'em, and the rest on the bus with the femmes. Of course my van stopped at A&W. Damn I love those onion rings. Baked with pure crack, I'm sure. We rolled into Montreal at around twenty to 10 Thursday night. It had been raining since Tuesday, and I was pretty sure the games were going to be cancelled, but we would see what would happen.

Friday morning we were up at 6:07 am, ready to play. A pit stop at Timmy Ho's and we were on our way. We got to the fields to hear the news...games cancelled for the day. SO we picked up our new pimp jerseys, and headed back to our respected "homes". My van of course got lost, in the midst of Arctic/Sahara, but eventually made it back to Dowler's. We threw on Any Given Sunday for inspiration...and I slept like a baby. After our mid-morning nap we went for a run and a throw in an empty field somewhere in the heart of Montreal, after running through the campus of an all-girl school (who, by the way were way too young, and had skirts on that were way too short...Eric, they may be your height, but it's still illegal).

We saw what could happen to fields with cleats, because we destroyed the field in only running shoes. We played Double Disc Court for a while then got out of there. Dinner and a night out led to Saturday, where the tournament was moved to Saint-Jean-sur-la-Richelieu, as I had predicted.

Miller got us there right on time, at 7:56 am, ready to warm up for our 9:00 am game. Everyone else showed up at 8:20 am after getting lost, and the warm-up began.

Our first game was against MacMaster, who challenged my request for our new black jerseys. I thought in my head, you are going to pay for that...Seeing that their "good" players didn't actually go to MacMaster anymore, we rolled them easily to a 13-2 victory.

Our next game saw us up against Carleton. It was a good game, but we ended them quickly with a 13-5 victory.

Toronto proved to be a good game with them taking half 7-6. Some timely D's put us back on top and played the way we should have all game, instead of the ass we played in the first half, and we took the game 13-9.

We finished first in our pool, so we got to play a crossover against the first seed in the other pool...our rivals UBC. It was an awesome game, full of good plays, some sketchy calls, and Dr. Mackie and Mooney going at it. Mooney definitely won. Atta boy. Pink nail polish?

We were down 5-2 when we decided to step it up, and we ended up 7-7 when the horn blew. A bunch of handler passes and calls got the disc to me on a stoppage. I looked at Shaw, and he knew what I was going to do, whether it was a good idea or not...but hey, it's Shaw. It was tapped in, and I put a high bladey flick huck to Shaw, inches over defenders fingertips. Shaw made an incredible reverse layout grab, basically behind his back for the 8-7 victory. Terrible throw, incredible catch. This would give us the #1 seed going into Sunday.

Sunday night saw tragedy. The tournament was cancelled because of the terrible field conditions, and the tragic death of Chris Powell, Carleton Chess Club and Big Fish anchor. Knowing him personally I can say that it is a great loss, and that the world is worse off having lost him. Our hearts go out to his friends and family. You will not be forgotten.

To Chris: I know right now you are in heaven, tossing with Jesus, or Hendrix, or anyone patient enough to be taught this weird Frisbee Football game that you seem so set upon. Vaya con Dios, brah. I'll be thinking about you.

Gnarlz.

And Then There Was One.

I can't remember anything.
Can't tell if this is true or dream.
Deep down inside I feel the scream.
This terrible silence stops with me.

One. Nationals are near. 100% all day, every day.

Start putting yourself into the headspace you are going to need to be going against the #2-#24 teams this weekend. What are you going to have to do, what can't you do, how you are going to do it...

Everyone has midterms, everyone has assignments. Budget your time wisely so you don't have to miss practice. get up earlier, skip one night at the bar. Do or die time boys.

Al...that dream about the moose almost made me cry. They (school) want you to read an exponentially large amount, in a minuscule amount of time. I mean, give me a break. So once again I had to overnight our shaz to the tournament director. 2 for 2. Can you feel it?

So last night saw some high winds at practice, creating some ugly throws and some hazardous plays. The wind continued through the night, ripping branches from trees and bringing some to the ground. The wind has been persisting all day, so it looks like last night's heavy wind will be looked back upon as the slow blow you give your hot soup, where tonight's wind will be somehow in reference with Eric Lau's mom...also 2 for 2.

One practice left before Easterns boys. Sauer:

"The high moments of history have come not when man was most concerned with the comforts and displays of the flesh but when his spirit was moved to grow in grace."

Let's roll.

gnarlz.

Anarchists Weekend.

The hellmuth opened up under the concrete paving known as Aberdeen this weekend. It was a sight to see....but I'll get to that.

Thursday saw what is lovingly known as "Rookie Night". A nice game of cower, a leasurely jog in the park, followed by tea and crumpets back at my crib capped off the evening. Miles was the rookie to beat, and he took it in 5:56 I believe. Atta boy. New course though, so cannot be compared to previous years.

Homecoming hit hard in Kingston, leaving it's mark on both the city and the team. I worked all day on Saturday, so I could only hear tall tales from passersby as to the state of my beloved street. Statements tossed around loosely were "riot gear", "tear gas", "officer down"...good ol' Aberdeen.

After work I tried to get back to my house, and passed a parkinglot full of riot gear clad officers, and two horses with eye shields. Cool. I was not allowed to go down the street, as it was blocked by officers, watching the playful students skip around an overtuned car. Ring around the rosie I can only assume. Finding a nice space between two buildings, I took to the backyards to find myself at my backdoor. Through the house I went to the front, to find many frisbeeists on my porch, such a the geat Dirrty Dowler, and a long lost buddy from T.O. who found out where I lived. The streets were full, nothing but the sound of busting glass could be collected by the ear, and my sight was full of Homecoming glory...except for the dude who I saw getting the #@$! kicked out of him by a cop with his night stick. Ow. That will hurt in the morning. I left just in time to see the car burst into flames. Good times.

Sunday saw the hangover crew doing Zone 1 intervals. It was an hour run down Ontario, around RMC to Fort Henry and back. Along the way there were mental toughness and strength exercises. The run came to be 1 hour and 2 minutes. Since Diddums wasn't there, I couldn't smell rum being sweated out as we ran. There were a fair number of people missing...some without excuses. You know who you are. Never again.

The cover of the paper this morning showed me a riot on my street, as I had witnessed, and one poor little boy standing on the overturned car in the middle of the mass of students. Well, if you wanted your precious little trust fund taken away and daddy to write you out if his will, then you did a great job. Smile, you are national news.

Three practices until Easterns. Turn it up. Tear it off.

Gnarlz.

Zone 4.

It's like the calm before the storm...In my opinion, what we did was light. With three practices under our belts a week, we are seeing improvements hourly. "Time" is running short though, with Easterns in just two weeks time. Tonight at practice will be the rookies first encounter with Alex's workouts, and they will possibly develop "Brain Damage" from overexertion while "On the Run", and be on to "The Great Gig in the Sky".

I have gone over the books, and the team fees have been decided, ranging minimally between players, depending on gear needed. Time to crank out the "Money" boys. Breakdowns of the fees are available upon request.

I hope tonight's greek salad will go a little better then yesterdays. Go big or go home.

Jerseys have also been ordered through our now partner, VC Ultimate. They told me "Any Color You Like", so we will have our usual white with the polar opposite black to complete the set. All in all, I was very impressed by the calibre of athletes and the game that they brought. Play got sloppy at points, but there was incredible spots of light in every single person who gave their all on that badass field.

After the last tryout, the powers that be convened at the QP to discuss the final cut. Needless to say, it was a hell of an undertaking. 30 souls were chosen, and the list shall be revealed here...shortly. It can be accessed in the PEC on the bulletin board next to the Men's Change Room, as of 9:00 AM Friday the 15th.

A Training Camp is scheduled for this weekend, the details are yet to be finalized.

Thank you so much to all who tried out, and congrats to all of those who made it. We had almost 80 dudes out for the first tryout, and the womans team seemed to have close to the same, making the super hard but spacious field, super hard and very cramped. It was hard to see everyone and run the drills with that many people to take care of, but I think we pulled it off quite nicely. The night went as such:

1. They got numbered like cattle.
2. T-1000 gave 'em 3 laps and their A-B-C's.
3. Throws.
4. Break force drill (greek salad).
5. The Gautlet.
6. Cutbacks.
7. 3 on 3.
8. Scrimmage.
9. Manmakers and Tuck Jumps.

All in all it was a very fun-filled Tuesday Night. I was very impressed by all the athletes we had come out, which only makes Mooney's and myself's jobs harder.

And apparently, there is another Adam Shaw, same name, a dude that looks just like Cranston the human garbage disposal, and Miller is still as sexy as ever.

There were no cuts made after tonight's tryout, everyone was invited back to the second day. I am very excited to see how it goes. In the works is also a training camp for this weekend, and the possibility of some exibition games against Carleton and the University of Ottawa. Ottawa. Pfft. Only chumps are from Ottawa.

18 hours until Tryout #2.
