Ask God to Show you His Wonderful Truths

Before you began to read the Bible, his Word, ask as the psalmist did. Open my eyes, to see your wonderful truths in your law. I am a stranger in the earth; Do not hide Your commandments from me (Psalm 119:18,19).

We too are strangers in the earth, and need guidance from day to day. We need a GPS, map or guide for almost any long trip. The Bible should be our road map, as we travel through life. Pointing out obstacles to avoid, safe routes, and our final destination. We must recognize ourselves as pilgrims and strangers, travelers here on earth who need to study God's map to learn the way. If we ignore the map, we will wander aimlessly through life and risk missing our real destination, Heaven. Don't miss it, stay in His Word.

Do You Have Both Beauty and Discretion?

Proverbs 11:22, tells us that a woman who is beautiful but lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig's snout.

It's very important that young ladies and women know that physical attraction without discretion (Mother wit) will soon run out. We must look and desire those character strengths that help us make wise decisions, not just those that make us look good. Not everyone who looks good is the best people to be around. Don't take this the wrong way. We're to take good care of our bodies and appearance, and in doing so develop the ability to think what is good and evil.

Don't Give up in Your Efforts to Seek God

Matthew 7: 7-8 says, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you, "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Jesus tells us to persist in pursuing God. People often give up after a few halfhearted efforts and conclude that God cannot be found. But knowing God takes faith, focus, and follow-through, and Jesus assures us that we will be rewarded. Don't give up in your efforts to seek God. Continue to ask him for more knowledge, wisdom, patience, love, and understanding. He will give them to you.

It is wise to listen, before responding. After reading this message you will understand why.

A preacher finished the service one morning by saying, "Next Sunday. I am going to preach on the subject of liars. As a preparation for my sermon, I would like you all to read Mark 17."

On the following Sunday, the preacher rose to begin. Looking out at the congregation he said, "Last week I asked you all to read Mark 17. If you have read the chapter, please raise your hand." Nearly every hand in the congregation went up. Smiling, the preacher said,"You are the very people I want to talk to. Mark has only 16 chapters."

Be Silent, and Know That I am God!

Come, see the glorious works of the LORD; See how He brings destruction upon the world and causes wars to end throughout the earth. He breaks the bow and snaps the spear in two; He burns the shields with fire. "Be silent, and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world." The LORD Almighty is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress (Psalm 46: 8-11).

In this world, many great cities have rivers flowing through them, sustaining people's lives by making agriculture possible and facilitating goods with other cities. Jerusalem had no river, but it had God who, like a river, sustained the people's lives. As long as God lived among the people, the city was invincible. But when the people abandoned Him, God no longer protected them, and Jerusalem fell to the Babylonian army.

War and destruction are inevitable, but so is God's final victory. At that time, all will stand quietly before the Lord Almighty. How proper, then, for us to be still now, reverently honoring Him and His power and majesty. Take time each each day to be still and to exalt God.

Faith is Hoping for What you Cannot See

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the men of old gained approval (Hebrews 11: 1-2).

Moses became one of Israel's greatest leaders, a prophet and a lawgiver. It took faith for Moses to give up his place in the palace, but he could do it because he saw the fleeting nature of great wealth and prestige. It is easy to be deceived by the temporary benefits of wealth, status, achievement,and popularity, and to be blind to the long-range benefits of God's kingdom. Faith helps us look beyond the world's value system to see the eternal values of God's kingdom.

What is your Attitude Today?

But Moses told the people, "Don't be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the LORD rescue you. The Egyptians that you see today will never be seen again. The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent," (Exodus 14: 13-14).

The people were despairing and hostile, but Moses encouraged them to watch the awesome way God would rescue them. Moses had a positive attitude! When it looked as if they were trapped. Moses called upon God to intervene. Today, we may not be chased by an army, but we may still feel trapped. Instead of giving in to despair, we should adopt Moses' attitude to "stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today."
Praise the LORD for His Goodness!

The LORD told Moses to stop praying and get moving! Prayer must have a vital place in our lives, but there is also a place for action. Sometimes we know what to do, but we pray for more guidance as an excuse to postpone doing it. so when we know what we should do, then it is time to get moving.

How do we Receive God's Guidance?

Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you (Psalm 25: 4-5).

David expressed his desire for guidance. How do we receive God's guidance? The first step is to want to be guided and to realize that God's primary guidance system is in his Word, the Bible. Psalm 119 tells of the endless knowledge found in God's word. By reading it and constantly learning from it, we will gain the wisdom to perceive God's direction for our lives. We may be tempted to demand answers from God, but David asked for direction. When we are willing to seek God, learn from his Word, and obey his commands, then will we receive his specific guidance.

As believers, we are chosen to be priests of the living God. (1 Peter 2:9) A priest offers prayers to God on behalf of another. Through prayer God will give us protection from evil; healing from disease and sickness; wisdom; insight into His plans for our lives and the lives of our children; and blessing (his favor and presence).

You are Never Helpless With God

David, the servant of the LORD, tell us that He reached down from heaven and rescued me; He drew me out of deep waters (Psalm 18:16).

At some point in your life, have you felt your troubles, like "many waters," threaten to drown you? David, helpless and weak, knew that God alone had rescued him from his enemies when he was defenseless. When you hope that God would quickly rescue you from your troubles, remember that He can either deliver you or be your support as you go through them (18:18). Either way, His protection is best for you. When you feel like you're drowning in troubles, ask God to help you, hold you steady, and protect you. In His care, you are never helpless.

God Gives us Strength to Meet our Challenges

God arms me with strength; He has made my way safe. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, leading me safely along the mountain heights. He prepares me for battle; He strengthens me to draw a bow of bronze.

You have given me the shield of your salvation. Your right hand supports me; your gentleness has made me great. You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping (Psalm 18: 32-36).

God promises to give us strength to meet challenges, but know that He doesn't promise to eliminate them. If He gave us no rough roads to walk, no mountains to climb, and no battles to fight, we would not grow. He does not leave us alone with our challenges, however. Instead He stands beside us, teaches us, and strenghens us to face them.
