Quilt Block Mania - April is Games

Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Weather.

This is my seventh year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.

I don’t know if you have ever played Quilter’s Bingo, but it sure is fun! My bee and I were in charge of games one year for our Christmas party, and as a result, we were in charge of making the bingo cards.

With Quilters bingo, you play with a fabric card. Each column is a color, and every square is a specific category of fabric. You can choose any categories you like, but for my block above I chose Dots, Flowers, 30s reproductions, animals, and winter holidays.

Every card will have it’s own unique combination of colors and categories. There may even be a category not represented on a single card at all. A caller determines the next combo (we used dice) and calls it out (such as Red Winter Holiday) so players can mark their cards. For my block, I used red markers as you might find in regular bingo. At that Christmas party, we used buttons to mark our cards so you can do that on your block if you like.

In my block, the player has just won after forming a diagonal line with their markers.

Wednesday Wait Loss 478

WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group! As you can see, I’ve been doing this for years and so our group is strong, loves to share, and is very welcoming.

Here’s how it works. Every week I start out by sharing what I’ve been working on. Then I share the projects from the previous week that most inspired me so that they will inspire you too! This is followed by the actual link up where you can share a photo of your current project. If you are new to linking up, I have a separate page that steps you through the whole process.

What I've been up to

Last week I designed and made the new Quilt Block Mania block for April. The new block will debut next Tuesday. The theme is games. I wonder what I’ll make? (And no, it’s not Monopoly.)

I also added some patterns to Quiltie. Quiltie is a place where you can track your quilt projects, browse for patterns to try, organize your stash, and ask questions of your fellow quilters.

I also started work on a project for the next Quilters Paradise Summit—Fast-n-Easy. This time, the summit is focusing on projects with participants getting free patterns and video tutorials on how to make them. The summit will be in June. Sign up for my newsletter to be sure you get notified to join! The summit is free.

Let’s see what caught my eye this week. Many of you finished your SAHRR quilts. Let’s take a look!

Up first is Diann @ Little Penguin Quilts. Diann chose a fall theme. What a lovely way to frame her embroidery!

Next, Nann @ With Strings Attached frame a small panel for her SAHRR. Being a librarian, Nann couldn’t have picked a more perfect subject for her quilt. Each border adds interest to this lovely piece.

Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts created a lovely quilt with her mix of borders and colors. That applique flower block in the center really inspired a beautiful quilt! Don’t you just love it?

Next, Carol @ Quilt Schmilt also started with a panel for her SAHRR. Here, the simple borders draw attention to that tranquil farm scene in the panel.

And finally, Gail @ Quilting Gail used a mix of my favorite colors (purple, teal, and fuchsia) to create this delightful quilt. I just adore those butterflies, don’t you? Her flying geese and circle borders add such movement. It’s like those butterflies are flittering around her little garden in the center!

Wednesday Wait Loss 477

What I've been up to

Last week I recorded the tutorial for my Witchy Moon block, which is part of my Vintage Halloween BOM.

I didn’t get a lot done after that, just little things here and there because on Friday we helped our beautiful Zora over the rainbow bridge. She was the best cat EVER and I miss her so much.

Zora helped me quilt and cross stitch. She’d often interrupt my videos with questions. “Meow?” “Meeeeeowwww??” “Meow, meow, meow?” The answer was always to give her some attention. Wouldn’t I love to give her even more attention now?

Miss you, Zora sweetheart.

And that was my week!

What I've been up to

Last week I attended classes at the Quilter’s Paradise Summit, just to learn what other quilting teachers are doing. It’s my way of keeping up with the industry.

While I was watching videos, I sorted fabrics to place on my new shelves.

At the end of the week, I worked on the next block in my Vintage Halloween BOM, which is exclusive to my quilting membership. The block is called Witchy Moon.

And that was my week!

Up first is Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter shared several projects, including this lovely pieced backing. Allison made it from orphan blocks. Isn’t that a wonderful way to use them up?

Next, Kat @ Scrapbox Quilts shared her quilt from the Open Spaces quilting challenge. Didn’t Kat do a great job of quilting this piece? What a great way to brush up on free motion quilting!

Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared her progress on the Designer Mystery. Isn’t this a pretty quilt in progress? I simply adore the fabrics, don’t you?

And finally, Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color shared her answer to the Project Quilt 17.5 challenge, My Compliments. Leeanna used a painting, printed on fabric, to create her piece. Isn’t it gorgeous?

Wednesday Wait Loss 475

What I've been up to

Last week I focused on quilt patterns for my fifth Island Batik collection, which will be released next year. I’ve created (3) new patterns that I’ll be making soon, when my new fabric arrives here.

After I make my quilts, I’ll ship them to Island Batik for catalog photography. The quilts will return months later, and I’ll keep them a secret until the collection is released next year. Yep, that’s how far ahead we work in the fabric industry!

And that was my week!

Up first is Karen @ Quilts Etc who shared several projects, including these beautiful blocks she’s making for RSC. She calls the blocks Flowering Snowballs and they do look like lovely flowers. What a pretty garden Karen is making!

Next, Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter showed off an incredible number of quilt tops she’s recently finished from her scraps. Each one is so cool, including this pretty baby quilt.

And finally, Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace shared this lovely temperature quilt she quilted for a client. I love bright fabrics so this is so pretty to me! And it’s an easy block for a temperature quilt. Just love it!

Wednesday Wait Loss 474

What I've been up to

I was at a quilt retreat last week with my beemates. We shopped, traveled parts of Michigan to see the lovely landscape, and sewed!

I started sewing some of the house in Summer Village. As you may recall, I’m making this quilt with my beemates. The quilt has four rows—the first row and another row (I chose row 2) we are sewing ourselves, the other two rows are being sewn by a bee mate. I in turn will sew row 2 for them.

This quilt is easy peasy once you’ve got the fabrics cut! At retreat I sewed all of Row 1 and most of Row 2. So excited! At our March bee meeting I will get the fabrics from my bee mates to make their Row 2s, and they will get mine to make Rows 3 and 4.

Two of us are using the colors in Summer Village, and one is using the Winter Village colors. To me, both are equally beautiful so it was very hard to choose!

While on retreat, I finished the appliques for a new quilt pattern that will debut in January when my next Island Batik collection arrives in stores. I can’t show you the quilt just yet, but I can share that it includes this little guy. The pattern will include a small lap/toddler size quilt and a wall hanging. I think the quilt is going to look wonderful in a child’s bedroom!

Yesterday I shared my new Quilt Block Mania block for March. The theme is weather so of course I made an umbrella! I’m smiling because as I write this, it’s raining. 🤣

Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts shared her latest quilt. It’s a take on a traditional Irish Chain. Isn’t it pretty?

And finally, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared pages from her stitch book. This cutie caught my eye. Isn’t he adorable?

Quilt Block Mania - March is Weather

Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Weather.

I love the rain. Okay, not driving in it, but walking in a gentle rain is fun. And watching the rain fall in my garden lifts my spirits.

A rainy day also means more sewing, so what’s wrong with that?

For my block, I imagined a bright umbrella under a dark sky, with raindrops falling down. I mean, why carry a black umbrella when you can carry a purple one?

If you love weather as much I do, you might want to collect these other blocks for a future quilt. You’ll find these patterns in my shop.

Wednesday Wait Loss 473

What I've been up to

I’ve made some progress on Summer Village—finally purchasing a background for it. Now to cut the background and organize the pieces for sewing!

I also made progress on a quilt I designed for my next Island Batik collection, which will debut in December. I focused on finishing other quilts for the catalog, and put this quilt aside. So I’m returning to this quilt. I can’t share much about the project yet, but I’m happy with how it’s turning out!

I finished out the week sewing up the new Quilt Block Mania block for March. The theme is weather. I can’t wait to share my block with you on Tuesday!

Up first is Leeanna @ Not Afraid of Color who shared several projects, including her progress on her SAHRR. Leeanna has chosen a water theme and I’m really enjoying how she’s answering each prompt. This week, Leeanna added a gorgeous water lily to her piece.

Next, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared these impossibly small blocks. Finishing at 4”, they are a marvel of precision. Love them!

This week Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace was also working small, happily handpiecing these hexie masterpieces. I adore those fussy cut images, don’t you?

And finally, Julie’s Quilts and Costumes shared her Herringbone quilt. I love the color palette, don’t you? Such pretty fabrics.

Wednesday Wait Loss 472

What I've been up to

I belong to a local bee called the We Bee 3. We decided to do a group quilt. Two of us chose Edyta Sitar’s Summer Village quilt and the other chose her Winter Village quilt. Basically the same quilt pattern with different appliques.

The way we are going to do it is to break the quilt into rows and assign a row to each person, then that person does the row 3 times (one for herself, and two for the other members of the bee.) One row we will all do ourselves. We start this project in March, so I decided I needed to get my pieces cut and organized. I got that all done except for the background, which I hadn’t purchased yet. I got that yesterday so I’ll start cutting it sometime this week.

I got my Ravens block videos for my Vintage Halloween BOM edited and uploaded to my membership hub this week. I’m really loving how the blocks turned out!

I finished the Ribbon of Hope quilt top my bee is making this month for charity. I really love the variety of fabrics we used.

I finished out the week designing the new Quilt Block Mania block for March. The theme is weather. My block will debut here on the first Tuesday of the month. I can’t wait to share it with you. It turned out so great!

Next, Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting shared several quilts, including one she made. What I loved was that Nancy chose her colors from a color palette she found on the internet. Such a great idea, and the result is lovely!

And finally, Viridian @ Viridian’s Blog shared her Shadowpoint quilt. I love how 3-dimensional this is, don’t you?

Wednesday Wait Loss 471

What I've been up to

After finishing my Raven blocks last week, I decided to double-back and finish the edges of my appliques on both the Double and Wall versions (yep, I’m making two versions of my Vintage Halloween quilt.)

Later I switched to my Presidents guild quilt, made with blocks signed by the members of my local quilt guild as a thank you for my presidency in 2011. I got the blocks, then put them away as I was busy still with the guild (as President at Large) and my business. As a result, I didn’t make the top for about 10 years. This year I decided to take it out of storage and finally quilt it and I’m so glad I did! What fun to look at all those signatures and lovely messages from so long ago, some from dear friends no longer with us.

I chose batiks for my thank you blocks because as you know I love batiks! I told the guild members to use any color they liked so I got quite a variety. I arranged the blocks in a rainbow from upper left to lower right because I think that let them shine beautifully as individual blocks and also together. (The photo below is before I put the binding on—I chose purple for the backing and binding because purple’s my favorite color.)

Marsha @ Marsha’s Spot shared this adorable crocheted dress. Don’t you just love that fringe? And her model is pretty adorable too!

Next, Gail @ Quilting Gail shared this quilt she finished for a friend who passed. Her friend’s daughter couldn’t be happier to have this quilt from her mom. What a lovely thing for you to do, Gail!

And finally, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel shared her answer to this week’s Project Quilting prompt—the year of the horse. I love that rusty orange fabric she found for her pin cushion. So perfect!

What I've been up to

My celebration for my collection Starry Seas has ended but what a fun month it was! I hope you joined in the fun and entered my many giveaways.

I’ve been switching between projects to both keep up with deadlines and have more fun! I started the week working on the Ravens blocks for my Vintage Halloween BOM. I think they turned out terrific!

Later I switched to Heart blocks for another version of my Ribbon of Hope quilt. I also made the Ribbon block for the new quilt. After arranging the blocks on my design wall, I’m ready to sew them together.

I then designed and sewed a new block for Quilt Block Mania, which debuted yesterday on my blog. The theme was Love Letter, so I designed a Love Letter block. Click here to learn how you can get the complimentary pattern.

And that was my week!

Up first is Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner who shared her progress on the Designer Mystery. Pretty blocks. Don’t you just love that gorgeous fabric? This is going to turn out so lovely.

Next, Jocelyn @ Canadian Needle Nana shared several projects, including these adorable Tiny Baskets blocks. What a pretty quilt this is going to make!

Yvonne @ Sew Yummy shared this Irish Star top. I love the design and the bright happy fabrics she used, don’t you? Looks like a great way to use up scraps.

Next, Kathy @ Kathy’s Quilting Blog shared this antique Rosebud cross-stitch quilt she’s finishing. Such lovely handwork. This will make a beautiful family heirloom.

And finally, Andra @ Alive and Piecing shared several projects, including this lovely Jelly Roll Lone Star top. It’s small and just the right size to give this technique a try. I can’t wait to see the finish on this!

Quilt Block Mania - February is Love Letter

Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Love Letter.

This is my seventh year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.

I love Valentines. I love schmaltzy Valentines cards, chocolate candy, and flowers. I love to love!

My husband and I make it a point to do something special for Valentines 💏. Sometimes we eat out at our favorite Italian restaurant. Sometimes we make a special meal at home, and for dessert I make Molten Lava Cakes. Yum! It doesn’t have to be a big deal, but we never forget the day.

Although we’ve been married for forever, we take advantage of Valentine’s Day to remember why.

For my block, I imagined a Valentine’s card with a little heart sticker and a ton of hearts on the envelope. And since I have a stash of Valentine’s fabrics, I wanted to use them in my block. I wanted to use fabric with words like I love you and You’re sweet for the letter part of my block, but amazingly I didn’t have any! I guess I’ll need to go fabric shopping….(as if I need an excuse!)🤣

If you use a solid for the letter part, you could quilt words of love in that area when you quilt your block. Here are some additional fabric ideas. Wouldn’t a quilt with these blocks be adorable?

If you love love as much I do, you might want to collect these other blocks for a future quilt. You’ll find these patterns in my shop.

What I've been up to

With the help of my bee mates, I have two Ribbon of Hope quilts underway for a breast cancer charity. Here are some of the quilts we made in the past.

I designed a few new patterns last week—one for my collection coming out at the end of the year and another block pattern for Quilt Block Mania which will debut here on the blog on Tuesday. The prompt is Love Letters and I can’t wait to share what I made! So perfect for Valentines.

Missy made her Laundry Basket Mystery quilt using a lovely collection of red, taupe, and white. Isn’t it gorgeous? I love the quilting Nancy did. Such a great compliment to this quilt.

Next, Viridian @ Virdian’s Blog shared her second Simplicity top. I’m mesmerized by the
3-D look of this quilt. So cool!

Kathy @ Kathy’s Quilting Blog shared this bright and happy bubblegum quilt. What a lovely bit of cheer for a dreary winter! Don’t you just love that pink with the navy? What a perfect combo.

Next, Melva @ Melva Loves Scraps shared this lovely Vintage Roses quilt, made from cross-stitched blocks. So sweet! Such a special memory of the lady who made the blocks.

And finally, Kathy @ Hazel’s Daughter shared several projects. First, I wanted to share this beautiful plaid door handle bag that Kathy made in memory of her brother for Project Quilting. It’s so sweet and the fabrics and colors are just so perfect! My condolences on the loss of your brother Kathy, but what a wonderful tribute you’ve made!

I also want to share the table toppers Kathy made using my Snow block pattern. I just love how she arranged one of them with her cute snowman! What a wonderful little tableau to compliment this snowy winter we’re having! Her second, larger table topper is just as cute. Perfect fabrics to show off the snowflakes in the design. Love it!

Let’s see what caught my eye this week.

Up first is Rebecca @ Rebecca Grace who shared this lovely Civil war era quilt. Yes, it just a bunch of small repetitive blocks. But what makes this quilt so grand is the color and value placement. There are lights and dark groupings across the quilt that catch the eye and make the quilt dazzle. It’s scrappy, but planned scrappy so the result is gorgeous! Thanks Rebecca for sharing this lovely quilt.

Next, Maggie @ Making a Lather shared several projects including this one which she made for RSC a few years ago. A simple block, which makes it perfect for keeping up with RSC. The block is large, which makes it perfect for using up a lot of scraps! But what I liked most about this is how striking this rainbow quilt is with the blocks arranged this way. Love it!

Deb @ A Scrappy Quilter shared a lot of different projects, all using up blocks she had in her storage. The Peachy Pineapple blocks shown here were given to her by a quilter are so lovely! What a gorgeous charity quilt this will make. I can’t wait to see what Deb does with these lovely blocks.

Next, Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts shared her Dawn to Dusk quilt, which she made to showcase my newest Island Batik collection, Starry Seas. I love the gradations she created with the oranges and blues in the collection. Simple but oh so dramatic! I just love it.

And finally, Carol @ Quilt Schmilt shared several projects including this lovely dragonfly box she made for a friend. I haven’t done any needlepoint in a while but I would take it back up to make this! So beautiful.

What I’ve been up to

Most of last week I was prepping for my Starry Seas Blog Hop. More about that in a moment.

I also spent time writing the next block pattern for my Vintage Halloween BOM—Bats! I will make the block and film the tutorial today, then upload it to my private quilting membership.

What I’ve been up to

My shop hop quilts are done and have been sent off to All State Shop Hops. Yay me!

On Friday I finished my new Quilt Block Mania block which debuted yesterday here on the blog. You can read all about it here.

For the rest of my week, I turned my attention to prepping for the launch of my fourth collection with Island Batik—Starry Seas! Join me on Monday when the fun begins.

Let’s see who tickled my fancy this week.

Up first is Nancy @ Grace and Peace Quilting, who shared a review of 2025 and her plans for 2026. The 2025 quilts she featured were all so lovely, but it was her 2025 RSC quilt that caught my eye. There’s so much to love! The combination of a scrappy black and white background and light, bright prints are simply perfection. And that striped binding was the icing on the cake!

Next, Turid @ Den Syende Himmel also shared a recap of 2025 and her plans for 2026. She featured such lovely quilts from 2025 it was hard to choose but this one caught my eye—her European Quilt Association challenge quilt.

Vicki @ Vicki’s Crafts and Quilting shared a clever way to hang a quilt. By simply affixing clips to a board, Vicki can now change out the display in her entry easily. Isn’t this quilt lovely? I love the colors, but especially the quilting! Imagine being greeted by this every time you come home. Just lovely.

Next, Frederique @ Quilting Patchwork Applique shared a recap of her 2025 quilts and the unfinished projects she’s hoping to finish in 2026. So many pretties! But this one caught my eye. It’s her 2025 SAHRR. What a lovely result! I can’t wait to see this one finished.

And finally, Preeti @ Sew Preeti Quilts also shared a review of her 2025 quilts. Again, there were so many beautiful quilts, but this special one caught my eye.

Preeti also shared that she’s been threatened online because of her beliefs. I do not share my politics online because they are not part of my business identity but I am moved to say this now—to the ones who hate women, who want to shut us up and put us in “our place,” you forget that we are the majority on this planet. We love, we nurture, and we care for humanity. I’m not sure why that makes us something to ridicule, abuse, or threaten but I would advise you to stop poking that tiger because we are awakening!

Quilt Block Mania - January is Snow

Welcome to my stop on the Quilt Block Mania Blog Hop. Each of the designers participating in the hop are sharing a block pattern inspired by this month’s theme, which is Snow.

This is my seventh year participating in QBM, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my free block pattern each month! If you’ve missed any, the patterns for previous months are available in my shop.

I love snow.

I know, so many people don’t. They seek warmer climes or wish for warm days even in winter. Me, I long for the cold because I’m always running hot. In addition, there is no better day for me than one spent inside, quilting, while watching the snow come down. I just love the white stuff!

So for my block I thought, why not snowflakes? I made mine modern with purple, blue, and green but you can make yours classic by using a dark background and white.

If you love winter as much I do, you might want to collect these other blocks for a future quilt. You’ll find these patterns in my shop.

I’m currently working on quilts using my fifth collection with Island Batik. The collection debuts in late 2026.

Wednesday Wait Loss 465

Welcome to Wednesday Wait Loss!

WWL is a place where you can share photos of quilts you’re working on and get encouragement to finish them from our Wednesday Wait Loss group! As you can see, I’ve been doing this for years (over 400 weeks!) and so our group is strong, loves to share, and is very welcoming.

If you are new to linking up, I have a separate page that steps you through the whole process.

What I’ve been up to

I’ve sewn the binding to the shop hop quilts, added labels and prepped them for shipping. YAY!

Last week I bound one of the three Island Batik quilts—the other two are at the longarmers and are expected soon. Looks like I’ll make that mid-January deadline easily. Great way to end the year!

I wish you and yours a very happy new year. My year starts off with a bang—watch for the celebration of my fourth Island Batik collection—Starry Seas—beginning January 12th!

Let’s see who tickled my fancy this week.

Up first is Allison @ A Messy House is a Sign of a Happy Quilter who shared her progress on Lupine & Laughter and this jar opener. What a great idea for a quick and useful present! I love to collect these types of things (I call them giftables) and I am definitely adding this idea to my list.

Next, Julie @ Julie’s Quilts and Costumes who shared her Improv Alphabet top. Julie took a class to learn how to do these. Such a cool way to add a personal touch to a quilt! I love all the improv letters together too. The bright fabrics against the black and greys just pop!

Gretchen @ Gretchen’s Little Corner shared a year end recap of her 2025 quilts. So many pretty quilts! Be sure to check out her post. It was hard to choose a favorite to feature, but I really love her Quadrangle quilt. What a gorgeous, scrappy quilt! And along with purple, teal is a favorite of mine. Kudos Gretchen on a lovely quilt.

And finally, Gail @ Quilting Gail also shared a recap of her 2025 quilts. Talk about productive! Gail finished a ton of quilts in 2025 so it was hard to select one to feature but this beauty caught my eye. I love the blend of dark and medium teals. There’s not as much contrast as I normally do in my quilts, but I love how calm and peaceful this is. I’m going to try this in a quilt soon. It’s like looking at the ocean! So lovely. Congrats Gail on a great year!

I’ve finished all the quilts I needed to finish this month (five in total) and the last two are off to the longarmer!
