Computers and the Internet have changed drastically in the last 20 years or so.

Up until Microsoft introduced Windows, not a lot of people had home computers, and computers used by businesses were not that commonplace except for the larger companies that had the big IBM’s and the like.

I recall when I purchased my first computer in about 1993, it had Windows For Workgroups installed on it, and it was a lot different from the modern computer and current versions of Windows. It also cost me about three times what a much more powerful machine costs today.

The Internet and email were just getting started good, and were not even very popular or very much used by most people. I recall telling one of my golfing buddies, who was a very successful business man, about my encounters with the internet, and he assured me that it was just a fad and would never amount anything worth while.

When I first got the computer, I was so uneducated on using a computer that I didn’t even know how to turn the dang thing on and off correctly. Every night, I would push the on-off switch and turn it off, and next day when I pushed the same switch to turn it back on, it would rudely inform me that it was having to run scandisk because I failed to shut Windows down properly. I thought to myself, you stupid machine, how else to turn you off and on except with the on-off switch?

Well, as time passed I began to learn a few things about how to use a computer, including how to turn it off and on, and also about how to use Windows and a lot of its features. I didn’t really use it all that much though, more just a toy than anything else.

I upgraded to Windows 95, and found it to be much improved over the
older version. A couple of years later, I purchased a new Pentium computer with
Windows 98. At the same time, I really started to get serious about using the computer, as well as email and the Internet. I found out I could do my banking online, I
could find and order products over the Internet, I could search for information over the Internet, and from that point on I was hooked.

I started to think about actually learning how to build my own web site, just to see if I could. I purchased some books approximately 4 inches thick and began to study HTML, and after several weeks of trying to figure out what looked like Greek to me, I managed to create a really bad looking web page. Boy, was I proud of myself!

I thought there must be an easier way to learn computer skills, and started purchasing those hot new “eBooks” that everyone was selling like hotcakes. Some of them were pure junk, but a few were worth the price, and made learning somewhat easier.

I kept thinking, though, that there must be a better and easier way to
learn some of those highly technical skills that I wanted to learn. I needed
someone that knew the skills already to give me some “one on one” training, and I
needed it to be visual, something I could see, and not just reading out of a book or eBook.

And then I discovered how to tutorials, where someone with knowledge of the subject actually sat down at a computer and recorded screen shots showing exactly what steps they used to accomplish a specific task, and I could sit at my computer and watch them do it. Now we’re on to something. This is a better way of learning!

I began to buy video tutorials and after several years of learning from them, I think that I have become fairly accomplished in many computer and Internet skills that would never have been possible if I had tried to do it reading dull boring 4 inch thick books.

I now can easily create web sites using HTML, or with Wordpress or Joomla. I have created several ecommerce sites, several blogs, and all because of video training versus written word training.

A person can purchase video tutorials on a wide variety of subjects. When I bought my how-to tutorials, it was a matter of paying for them, downloading them, and storing them on my hard drive. In a lot of instances I would be finished with the tutorial in a few days or weeks, and never really need it after that. In some instances though I would go back and watch the video again every few months.

A person can still buy video tutorials, download them, and store them on their hard drive, if they wish, or they can simply “rent”video tutorials, use them for a set period of time, and not actually own them. It is usually at a much lower price to “rent” video tutorials than if they purchased them. The choice is entirely up to the customer.

There are many, many video tutorials available on the Internet, covering a very
wide variety of subjects, and I recommend them highly for anyone wanting to learn new or specialized computer and Internet skills.

To see a short sample of a video tutorial, check out the video below.

Preview:

Metallic Header Design.

Step 1:

Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 950×400 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a black color. Now make a new layer set titled ‘Metallic Design’.

Select the Rounded Rectangle Tool, above your screen under the options palette choose Fill Pixels, set the radius to 20px and check anti-aliased. Then create a new layer and draw a gray rounded rectangle with #6F6F6F color shade and 200×210 px dimensions.

Step 2:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Inner Glow, Satin and Gradient Overlay blending options to your gray rounded rectangle layer.

Result:

Step 3:

In a new layer draw a smaller rounded rectangle with 186 x 22 px dimensions, position it as shown below.

Step 4:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add an Inner Shadow, Gradient Overlay and Stroke blending options to your smaller rounded rectangle layer.

Result:

Step 5:

Now duplicate the smaller metallic rounded rectangle layer 3 times and stack them as shown below.

Step 6:

Duplicate your ‘Metallic Design’ layer set then go to Layer > Merge Layer Set. The duplicate should turn into a regular layer, cut the right corners off and stretch it to your right canvas. Now position the longer metallic design next to the smaller design.

Step 7:

Make a rectangle marquee selection on your metallic design layer then go to Edit > Copy and back to Edit > Paste, you should now have a new layer with the metallic rectangle shape. Now go to Edit > Transform > Perspective, drag the top right transform points on the metalic rectangle shape up so the shape transform as shown below.

Step 8:

Duplicate the metallic shape from step seven and flip it horizontal through Edit > Transform.

Step 9:

In a new layer draw a thin black rounded rectangle with 8 x 212 px dimensions.

Step 10:

Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Satin blending option to your black rounded rectangle layer. Then set the layer’s blending mode to Soft Light.

Result:

Step 11:

Select the Horizontal Type Tool and set the font family to Arial, bold, 15 pt, none and white color shade. In a new text layer type out your navigation links on the stretched metallic design.

Step 12:

Now add shadows to the whole design, first add a marquee selection around your entire metallic header design then go to Edit > Copy Merged then Paste. You should now have a new layer with the whole metallic header design, set the layer’s blending mode to Lighten and flip it Vertical through Edit > Transform. Then move the design down as shown below.

Step 13:

Grab the eraser tool and set the brush setting to a large soft brush. Now erase the bottom half of the shadow design then apply a motion blur through Filter > Blur > Motion Blur, use 90 degree angle with 37 pixels distance.

Results:

Metallic Header Design.

[PHP and My SQL]

In the example(database name is tutorial) we created a table name “student_info”.
This Table includes “Two Columns” These are “Name” and
“Address”.

  To create a database and table open PHP MYADMIN.

  ::: Step 1:::

To create a database, give the name of database in the text box as we’ve(tutorial)
given on this text box. And click on create button.

::: Step 2:::

When you click on the create button you will see a new window.

::: Step 4:::

Now write the query to create the table..

create table student_info(name varchar(80),address varchar(80));

Like this and click go…..

Now we return to PHP Code

The INSERT INTO statement is used to insert records in any table.

INSERT INTO TABLE_NAME (column1, column2,...)
  VALUES (value1, value2,...)

  How to INSERT a record in a table through a HTML Form.

::: Step 1 ::: Take a Simple HTML Form

<html>
<body>
<form action="save.php" method="post">

Your Name: <input type="text" name="name" />
Your Address: <input type="text" name="address" />

<input type="submit"  Value= “Save My Information”>
</form>
</body>
</html>

Action is used to give the name of the next page. With the help of action we can
retrieve the values from current page to next page.

The Action of this Form is save.php when the user click the submit button then
all the values of the form will go on save.php.

The Coding of save.php is given below…….

::: Step 2 ::: save.php

<?php
$link= mysql_connect("localhost","root","");

if (!$link) die (DB_ERR_DOC);

mysql_select_db("tutorial")
	or die("Could not select database");

$name=& $_POST[‘name’];
$address=& $_POST[‘address’];

$result=mysql_query("INSERT INTO student_info (name, address)
VALUES ('$name', '$address ',)");

If($result)
{
echo “Information Saved”;
}
else
{
echo “Information Not Saved”;
}
?>

This is coding for database connectivity.

<?php
$link= mysql_connect("localhost","root","");

if (!$link) die (DB_ERR_DOC);

mysql_select_db("tutorial")
	or die("Could not select database");

Explanation:-

1. localhost:- localhost is machine/computer name which the user used for creating
projects.
2. Database Name:- At this place you can use give your project name.

  This is coding to get the last page values to this page.

$name = & $_POST[‘name’];
$address = & $_POST[‘address’];

Explanation:-

1. Variables:- These are the variables. That stores the values from the last
page.
2. Functions:- With the help of POST function we retrieve the values of text
boxes from previous page.
3. Name of Text Boxes:- These are the name of text boxes of HTML page which
we need to retrieve in this page.

This is syntax and in this syntax we can run all queries of Mysql.

$result=mysql_query("INSERT INTO student_info (name, address)
VALUES ('$name', '$address ',)");

1. Syntax:- This is syntax under which we can run any query of mysql.
2. Query:- It is INSERT INTO query. this used insert any record in database.

This coding is used here for confirmation that whether the records has been
saved or not.

If($result)
{
echo “Information Saved”;
}
else
{
echo “Information Not Saved”;
}

Which means if the record saved then give

Output= Information Saved.

Else

Output= Not Saved.

  [End]

Understanding CSS Rules

Amazingly simple to set up
A CSS rule defines what HTML should look like and how it should behave in the browser window
Rules can be set up to tell a specific HTML tag how to display it’s content or create generic rules which can be applied to tags at your discretion
All rules have three parts:
Selectors, Properties and Values

Selectors, Properties and Values
Format of a style sheet rule:

selector {property:values}

selector {property:values;
            property:values}

HTML SELECTOR

Style rule applies to all of a specific kind of tag on the page

p {color: red}

All text inside

tags will be red

Class Selector
Might want to be more specific, only have red text for some paragraphs
Use a class selector

p.redstuff {color: red}

Will only be applied if…

<p class=“redstuff”>Some text or other</p>

Can define a class for use with any tag…

.greenstuff {color: green}

Advantages of linked style
Use one style sheet for whole site
Easily change site look and feel
Define several classes for use in different pages, but all in one page
ALSO separates style from content
Use meaningful classes - relating to the nature of the content

For almost 2 years I have hosted all my sites with avagoo.com, on my unlimited master re-seller account. Regular visitors to this site will have seen that it has been up and down for the last 10days, all due to the AWFUL hosting that avagoo.com have provided.

I won’t provide you with a direct link to the avagoo site, basically because you would be wasting your time!

The problems started when I could no longer upload any files to any of my sites. I checked the server status in my WHM and found that the main hard-drive was 99% full! I contacted avagoo and within 2 days they said they would fix the problem. They never did.

Then, all my sites started to run extremely slow…this time it was the CPU load. I emailed multiple times, no response at all. I called the PREMIUM rate phone number and was told that I was number 1 in the queue…I waited, and waited, and waited, for 40 minutes! They never answered.

Next, I noticed that ‘live support’ was online. Great I thought. NO! I opened a conversation window which stated that someone would accept the call in a few moments. I left the window open on my PC for two hours…no-one ever accepted the support chat.

Finally, I gave up. The entire server was down for another 4days….as soon as it came back up I grabbed all my files from all my sites and exported all the MySQL databases.

We are now back up! No thanks to avagoo.com!

I have moved hosting and have 100% faith that this site will now be up atleast 99% of the time!

We’ll have new tutorials for you very soon!
